Even I, a non-fan of DBZ, fully acknowledge that it has had a permanent impact on global culture. Its place in the history of manga cannot be ignored. Toriyama-san took inspiration from Chinese mythology and martial art films and created something unique, whereas so many other Jump manga come across as unoriginal (some even ripped off DBZ).
I used to work at a gym and almost all the competing body builders were huge DBZ fans and would wear DBZ workout shirts. They basically started as shy nerdy kids watching the show, which motivated them into working hard and getting jacked.
Toriyama passed away so I rewatched this. This video essay is the best tribute I can think of. « Dragon Ball Z wasn’t a story about getting what you want, it was one about surpassing who you are. » 🙏
@@ozzyhaye yeh but back then we knew about a power beyond ssj just not what it was. While for goku,we didn't even know what ssj was until he transformed
A key theme in Dragonball and Dragonball Z is training. That taught me as a child that you can get good at anything if you put hard work and time into it. I was especially inspired by Vegetas training, he trained the hardest.
@@2miligrams A little bit of an oversimplification, Vegeta poured all he could, he survived and got humiliated by a low class saiyan, and to put insult to death, that same saiyan became the first super saiyan in a thousand years, he was fueled by two things only, to surpass Kakarot, and honor his status by becoming SSJ, and his fight with A18 builds on that
@@mr.preston1632 he got junipers bybgoku because vegeta was an egotistical genocidal maniac lol he DESERVED TO GET HUMILIATED!! That shouldn’t be a point of sympathy you hold towards him lmao. You vegeta freaks are delusional
This series singlehandedly drove me to be the top of my class in my dojang & earn my black belt by 13 - I'd rush home from school and I'd have my VHS set and ready for me to hit record for when I'd have to leave for TaeKwonDo; dbz happened to come on the MINUTE I'd have to be leaving. So I'd watch everything else on toonami up until that moment, hit record, and try not to lag behind trying to catch what was gonna happen on that days episode or else I'd be late lol. And I'd go give it probably more effort than what could possibly expected from a kid training in any martial art, because in my mind I knew goku and friends were battling it out at the same time on my TV, with my favorite characters probably DYING, so if I didn't give it my absolute ALL, I couldn't possibly consider myself in their league - which, is where all us kid fans desperately wanted to be.
“Like every character in Dragon Ball, death would only prove to be temporary” -Super Eyepatch Wolf. We all will miss Akira Toriyama, but at the same time, I feel that we will never truly be without him. Thank you Akira, and thank you John. You both have positively impacted my life in multiple ways.
i watched it late at night when i was like 4. I dont think i understood what was going on, but i liked watching it and i dont think i tried to go super saiyan
I remember the episode where goku is just freshly turned super saiyan just came on and 1 minute In the episode my parents shut off the TV and said, we are going out for dinner. They didn't get it 😔
I wasn't even born when get Goku went super saiyan, so the closest experience I have to that is watching him go Ultra Instinct and seeing the interet break over the ultra instinct. If Ultra Instinct broke the internet, I can't even imagine how Super Saiyan 1 or Super Saiyan 2 would've broken the internet given how much hype their transformations had.
It still blows my mind that I can walk into a Walmart, Target or any other department store in the United States and you will still find DBZ merchandise, particularly t-shirts and hats, on display. The series ended its original run 17 years ago in the US! The cultural impact of DBZ can't be understated and if you're a millennial male, chances are you're a fan.
Agreed. As a 36 year old guy I can tell you half the guys in my grade 10 class in 99/2000 talked about this show. Especially the first time Goku goes super Saiyan. When that finally made Canadian syndication, it was transcendent.
Sadly same cannot be said for my country Canada well yes it did air on tv people that I talked to who live here barely know the show at all sometimes they know a bit about it and that would be it
Even as a female you can still see how good dragonball is. Hell my 3 female cousin's are huge fans of dragonball still. This show has impact like no other in the rest of the world.
I'm mad because this is a lot of exactly what I'd say if I made a video on DBZ. It was on a whole grander scale compared to every other American cartoon. You nailed it.
RebelTaxi Pan ive watched you for years yet you have yet to make a review on dbz I'm pretty sure your channel will blow up if you did do mainstream animes or cartoons
You should probably still do it anyway. You're your own guy with your own video-making style and personality, even if you do end up saying some of the same stuff you're still getting a good message across and bringing these thoughts to members of your fanbase who may never see this.
After Vegeta got crushed by Frieza and he dropped a whole speech on how Frieza was the one responsible for turning him into a monster he is.... Man, that scene hit me hard! That's what made The Prince my dude
yea it made me feel sorry for vegeta and it made me actually like the character because it explains why he does these things and makes him feel more like a person rather than a classic villain.
I broke into tears on that scene. I enjoyed Vegeta's character development so much during the planet Namek series. Then listening to his speech about his life but then passing got me so pissed that I wanted to murder Friezia. For some reason I forgot about the Dragon Balls.🤦♂️
As a kid I used to despise the Frieza arc when it used to come on the one hour Toonami show every weekend on cartoon network. It always rebooted mid way Frieza arc for few years till it got canceled. I only got to see Goku turn SS after I remembered Dbz during highschool when youtube was new.
Im crying again. Ive cried a few times since last night when i saw the news of Toriyama's passing. The impact that dragon ball has had on my life is beyond profound. It's like ive lost a friend or a family member that ive never met. And yet i am stricken with grief. May Akira Toriyama rest in peace, and as Oda has already stated, I hope the afterlife is just as peaceful as he envisioned it to be.
Even people who don’t have any clue about the anime industry know about Goku and Dragon Ball. It is so popular that the mascot for the Olympics was Goku, someone EVERYONE recognises.

It's also stated that Son Goku will serve as a 'Cultural Ambassador'.
Watching the blood, the gore and the violence as a kid was shocking as well as a revelation. DBZ was the first children's show that portrayed all this. Thank you DBZ for making my childhood memorable
Not for me!!! The first anime I watched was fist of the north star then Akira so by the time I saw DragonBall z like in 1993ish I loved it but the violence was tame compared to other anime of that time.
@@Quicksilver12345 yes fist of the north star was. I was around 12 and never seen violence in a cartoon like that lol plus it was very entertainment. By the time I discovered Dragon ball z I was wel into anime which we called japanimation back then
Growing up in the US in the 90’s me and my friends would literally rush home from school and go to my house (which was the first bus stop so it was quicker) just to watch DBZ literally everyday, and it was all that we talked about, when we played outside, we were pretending to be DBZ characters, every birthday and Christmas we all asked for DBZ related things, it’s not unfair to say this show shaped my child hood
I live in the other side of the world (literally and figuratively too), in Hungary we rushed home from the bus to watch DBZ, had to fight my Grandma to let me eat in front of the TV. And it was the same for everyone. It says a lot that this is a worldwide phenomenon that affected this generation in quite the same way. Not much later 'adults' realized that they shouldn't broadcast this much violence in broad daylight, and Hungary lost Dragon Ball for years as it was literally banned from TV. (Legend says a kid died when trying to fly or summon the magic cloud, and parents nationwide were outraged). I was at University when I finally had access to the whole series on torrent, and could experience the whole of DB and DBZ (and deliberately not GT)

Same but in Argentina, I watched the show with my dad, we still have found memories of the show, now Im introducing it to my nieces. I do wonder from where this footagle is taken, it looks gorgeous and in the original aspect ratio.
Kids of every time have something to remember as we guys include dbz in our childhood.... children of today are gonna have death note and attack on titan... i mean they are also great in themselves. Yes truely they are as much as dbz....
I love how the creator got it sooo right. He made Goku, so that his ultimate power came from his kind hearted/ protective nature, that struck a cord with all us youngsters. Why DBZ stands test of time is because it made us feel emotions That we never got from any other show! Doesn't matter how much I age, i still feel the same way.
Goku is the male power fantasy that we all men secretly have but will never admit Always training to break through your limits, protecting the weak, childish but smart, knows when to get serious, goofy but with a righteous heart Boys are born masculine by nature and when we saw a character that was everything we wanted to be, he inspired a whole generation to become like him While kenshiro is the grandfather, goku's the father of anime. It's not far-fetched to say that goku has succeeded kenshiro and he's pretty much inspired anime in general. Without dragon ball z or goku, there would be no anime. Yeah the Miyazaki films would always be there but without dbz, anime would never be as big as it is today
yu yu hakusho did it for me way harder. it was alot easier to relate to a teenager at the time of toonamis original run. dbz was definitely a much more impactful show overall but watching yusuke lose his shit so often and be a total goofball randomly with legitimate struggles throughout was way more relatable than goku being an unstoppable force with pure righteous virtues. i wish id seen OG dragon ball first because kid goku was much more fleshed out.
Mostly true, but DBZ isn't the only one. Yu Yu Hakusho did the same thing. Puu trying to get yusuke water while they're both dying is still the most emotional anime moment I can think of.
Definitely not rhe best writing, like in no way is it a lord of the rings, but in terms of influence it damn well is up there and will be remembered 1000s of years from now if we don't blow ourselves uo

I remember watching a documentary once about how Bruce Lee influenced many different communities from the NFL to MMA to Bodybuilding to Hip Hop culture, and I feel like you could make the same documentary for a show like Dragonball Z. If you asked any UFC fighter, Pro wrestler, NFL player, or NBA player what they’re childhood influences are, I can guarantee 9 out of 10 of them would say Dragonball Z.
I just had to come back and watch this video again. I found it... tonally appropriate. Thank you, Akira Toriyama. For teaching us, all of us, to go even further beyond. 🐉

That one simply made me feel broken and sad like shit. Goku going Super Saiyan and beating Frieza was supposed to be something grand and victorious, but all I can think about now past the revelations is "unfair, unfair, unfair". Majin Buu episode launched the waterworks.

As someone rewatching the original series as an adult, if you get the chance, you absolutely should! There are so many things that I didn't fully understand as a kid, that make the show so much more interesting and complex than it was the first time around (not that it wasn't amazing the first time, obviously).
Exactly. Most people who talk down on the series and say it doesn't make sense watched it as kids and couldn't understand it and when they got older just assumed the show was just poor

Sponge bob is a show you shouldn’t be watching but shows like Naruto Dragon Ball and Bleach they should be watched. They actually have teaching moments in them
Toriyama explained how he went about writing villain transformations vs. hero transformations. He said that the villains gain power due to a selfish desire for it, whereas why the heroes power will always win is because true power comes from a NEED that has to met in response to evil. One of the best moments in the series is Android 8 and Goku's communication, Goku's rage and mentality of avenging someone who had been killed by committing murder - a time before Goku spared enemies - and #8 explains gently that Goku is just as bad as the killer if he were to reciprocate. Original Dragon Ball is underrated.

Vegeta's story and character development was truely the best and most heart wrenching of all. Even though I favoured Goku as a child, I think I appreciate Vegeta's story more now as an adult because its so much more relatable in some sense to my own life and the struggles I've had to face growing up.
I always liked Vegeta better than Goku. I can see why someone who is that powerful would be somewhat arrogant and hard to get along with. It also occurs in the workforce, where it can be hard for lesser employees to interact with the killers.

The vegeta section of this masterpiece is icing on the cake. You probably described his character better than anyone or vid I've ever encountered. #epic
This is one of the reasons why I truly feel 90s kids had the GREATEST adolescence experience. Not only did Dragon Ball Z shape the generations of following anime... The characters were so well put together they serve as an alter ego for most people. Vegeta's character development is by far the GREATEST in television HISTORY. Nothing was given to these characters throughout their story, they had to WORK for everything. As a child during that time it taught me work ethic; showcased to the masses that if you truly want to succeed you must develop an unyielding relentless pursuit of improvement or else you'd fail. A truly masterclass show. Well done 👏🏿👏🏿
Vegeta definitely didn't have the best character development on television. Best on DBZ, yes. But not even remotely that compelling to be even considered as one of the best. And lol what are you on about the characters were repeatedly handed a random power up out of their ass. You really got that nostalgic goggles on mate.

@@patrick7695 what exactly was the story? DBZ stands on its power scaling and action. There isn't exactly any depth is there? Its pretty unintelligent story writing. I don't want to compare it with anything but like take Hunter x Hunter, Samurai Champloo, Fullmetal Alchemist as examples. There is at least depth in the story and it feels like actually good writing. Toriyama had a valuable gem in his hands with DBZ. But the guy was not a good writer. As far as character development in ALL OF FICTION is concerned. Idk, Walter White (Breaking Bad), Carol Peletier (Walking Dead), Prince Zuko (Avatar), Meruem (Hunter x Hunter) as few examples of better character development. I'm not saying Vegeta had bad character development. I'm saying it was certainly not the best.

I occasionally come back to this video just to skip to the Vegeta bit. I don't know what it is about it but it just feels to powerful with your narration and the music. It's inspiring. And no one to me in DBZ is as inspiring as Vegeta. The only character that struggled and changed throughout the story. Thus making him the most human and relatable to watch. @@samtepal3892 and even if that is what he meant, they still know that anime is huge in the west. Literally everyone everywhere knows that anime is big everywhere especially in Japan and the west. It's their job to know lmao but that wouldn't help with the depression. They're depressed cause they're overworked. Sometimes to death. They know that their work is appreciated everywhere and know where it's appreciated the most because it's their art/story's. If it wasn't loved everywhere then that would mean that they suck and would stop writing lol
@@Captain_Calcium Not only is it being overworked, but it's also being underpaid as well. Of course, that's universal in the animation industry around the world as storyboarders and animators are only paid once when an episode airs while the company keeps all the profit from how many times the show airs, merchandise, and home release sales. Yet even with all of that, they don't bother improving the budget for these productions making the jobs more difficult for their employees. There's also the fact that in the west, anime is well known but it's not completely mainstream to where it's even taken as seriously as western animation, and even that's not taken seriously as animation is seen as a kids medium and if it has an audience in adult age ranges, then it's a very niche one making it harder to advertise to. So it's really not a matter of Japanese fans, animators, directors, etc being oblivious as they're both probably implying, it's just the industry struggles financially due to bad work ethic and company practices. Of course, as self-entitled as the western part of the anime community is, I would find it hard to believe it's even popular in the west if I worked in the industry where foreign fans constantly send death threats because a mangaka wasn't woke enough or making disrespectful comments like, "That's sad, where's the next episode of Super?" when an entire studio(that didn't even produce DB anything)is burnt down with hundreds dead and injured. Also calling their entire country a "country of pedophiles" simply because of the art style characters are drawn in.
Dragon ball z is the reason why I'm watching anime to this day still it was my first and will always be my favorite god bless all of those involved with this anime they have made my childhood and I couldn't ask for it to be any other way
I get why people like Vegeta so diddly-dang much, but for me Piccolo will always be Best Character. That particular scene is one of the many reasons why I feel that way. Which is why it's so annoying that he never seems to get any really solid, defining moments or further power-ups in the same fashion Goku and Vegeta do.
At least he was well used till the cell saga. It was so clear Z was supposed to end in the cell saga. After that they nerfed everyone and made goku steal the spotlight again.
Adorni well he did get to shine in the Android saga when he went toe to toe with imperfect cell and 17, but I agree with you for the most part. Imo the imperfect cell vs piccolo fight was one of the best in the series.
what you said about passion in this series is the exact reason I watch you, despite our conflicting tastes. even if I'm not into a show, watching you pour out that passion about something you love makes me see why people like things I hate, and makes me appreciate the show more.
No other anime will ever be as iconic as this show. Characters, art style, the entire atmosphere, the message its conveying. Everything about it is legendary
Wow. You've perfectly described why Vegeta is by far the most nuanced character not only in Dragon Ball Z, but in pretty much all of battle Manga/Anime. Thank you.
im really glad i grew up watching dragon ball first before Z, this way the tone shift of the shows felt more natural, also following goku from child to adult while youre growing yourself ^^ also this way it wasnt so jarring like for those who went and saw the original DB only after watching Z great video btw, always appreciate your work ^^
bocodamondo Huh, I went on the other end and stumbled into GT first making my way backwards. I remember being confused when I saw Goku being able to turn Super Saiyan as a kid while he couldn't in Z 😂. Finally I got the gist, then Z suddenly aired on Toonami for the U.K and everyone else was catching up in school. As far as atmosphere goes, GT did encapsulate everything the DB series offered. It gave me the fun adventures at the beginning and a sudden shift to the melodramatic seriousness with the appearance of Baby, finally the sense of "progression" with it's finale. Oh man, the opening of Dan Dan and each 4 endings just gave barrels of nostalgia fuel... That's another thing too, the OST for GT hits hard for nostalgia. So J-pop 90s.
well there wasn't really a "tone shift" per se, it just went on with the seriousness that dragon ball had in the final 2 arcs* (until the ludicrous power level trip started after the cell arc*)
We didn't get the anime in my country before most of the manga had been translated here, I started from Vol. 2, only managed to find Vol. 1 a few months later.
When I was a kid, I first wasn't a fan of Vegeta that much. That was until I saw get destroyed by Frieza that made me feel sympathy for him. I guess I could understand how crushing it is when things don't go your way when you want them to go your way the most. And that feeling I got seeing Vegeta getting beaten to a pulp by Frieza is what made me love him so much. After this point, I want him to beat the main villain and celebrate the times he wins a fight
Gohan was also a great character. It also shows you how stopping training, even if having great potential, leaves you out of the loop. This was my favourite character. I still watch Cell's battle moment where A16 is destroyed and get emotional. That being said, I liked a lot many points you mentioned about having villains with long arcs, how the flashbacks were used even for foes to connect with them. All that was very novel for that time, esp. for cartoons. And the last 5min of your video made me almost cry. Great job man!
Dude Dragon Ball is much, much bigger than you can possibly imagine. You live in a country where it's not even that popular and it arrived 10 years late when it was already over. Now try France, Italy, China or South America and imagine everyone from your teacher to your grandmother knows about it. Imagine it was on national television prime time and the ad slot was the second most expensive after football. Imagine goku on your cereal and outselling Disney at toy'r'us. It's bigger than you can fathom. At its heigh in the early 90's it was just absolute craziness, full on dragonballmania. No western show ever came even close. In fact it got to a point where anime completely replaced Western cartoons on TV. all you could see was St Seiya Captain Tsubasa, Fist of the north star (censored) and Sailormoon, all driven by the absolutely unstoppable success of Dragon Ball, building up year after year. At some point i started using my pocket money to buy imported japanese manga so i could know the story before everyone else even thought i didnt have a clue how to read japanese and i was like 9y/o. I remember bringing the last, N42 manga at school as it just came out in japan, and i was like a rockstar everyone went nuts..Goku is litterally more famous than superman. I'm not exaggerating.
idk i can imagine a lot, and you summed it up pretty well there. my apologies for the ignorance of my fellow Americans. i know all too well how airheaded we start to sound after a while
I noticed that too, I remember growing up loving and watching anime especially Dragonball Z and I still do but I remeber it was sometimes pretty hard finding someone at school to talk about it or share my same emotions for it in the U.S but then when I travelled to different countries especially mexico so many people knew about it and it was everywhere and people didn't really see it as weird and nerdy thing like here in the west did.
I am French and you couldn't have summarize my childhood better. I am now 31 years old and I am fairly convinced that DBZ was a decisive factor in who I am now.
Being from South America (specifically Argentina), I agree 100% with you. Dragon Ball Z was the obsession of not only kids, but also older people. Collectable sticker albums, t-shirts, action figures, posters, full on Dragon Ball mania (as you stated). It was completely nuts. All thanks to Magic Kids, a famous cartoon channel which became the first South American tv network to broadcast anime in Spanish, and would incredibly surpass the rating levels of Cartoon Network (which didn't broadcast any anime) at that time. There was so much anime hype that it eventually lead Cartoon Network's South American division to broadcast anime in their "Toonami" segment to compete with Magic Kids' "El club del anime" (Anime's Club) for rating. All until Magic Kids died and Cartoon Network became the piece of shit it is now.
DBZ hits your emotions. I recently watched all the whole series in a row during shutdown working remote (Faulconer). Goku saying farewell from otherworld after sacrificing himself vs Cell had me 😭😭
I will advice you to Watch dbz kai only for the freeza saga coz the eng dub and bad fillers of dbz ruined epic scenes and important dailogues from tha saga
DBZ is what got me into working out, trail running and martial arts. Truly the biggest impact to my life was watching it as a kid and growing up with it and being 25 now can say I can always rewarch the series and constantly get hitched and marathon it again
It changed my life, for real. I made friendships over this franchise, built a pen and paper RPG that takes place in the DBZ universe (I am a game developer now) and even started working out.
Ilan Lakan Glad to hear that you too were inspired by DBZ and anime to improve yourself.

And the scene where he finally accepted he would never beat Goku and sacrificed himself to destroy Buu... That resonated so so much.

Nice
I wish I was born at that time
I live in the other side of the world (literally and figuratively too), in Hungary we rushed home from the bus to watch DBZ, had to fight my Grandma to let me eat in front of the TV.

He made Goku, so that his ultimate power came from his kind hearted/ protective nature, that struck a cord with all us youngsters.
Why DBZ stands test of time is because it made us feel emotions
That we never got from any other show!
Doesn't matter how much I age, i still feel the same way.
When we’re 90 years old we’ll be saying “damn I relate to Master Roshi now” 😂😂😂
Goku is the male power fantasy that we all men secretly have but will never admit
Always training to break through your limits, protecting the weak, childish but smart, knows when to get serious, goofy but with a righteous heart
Boys are born masculine by nature and when we saw a character that was everything we wanted to be, he inspired a whole generation to become like him
While kenshiro is the grandfather, goku's the father of anime. It's not far-fetched to say that goku has succeeded kenshiro and he's pretty much inspired anime in general. Without dragon ball z or goku, there would be no anime. Yeah the Miyazaki films would always be there but without dbz, anime would never be as big as it is today

Mostly true, but DBZ isn't the only one. Yu Yu Hakusho did the same thing. Puu trying to get yusuke water while they're both dying is still the most emotional anime moment I can think of.

I can't even fathom how great this video is. Every anime fan should watch this and understand the impact this series has done for fiction.
@@OreoTHOR what asspulls does dbz have? You mean transformations? They actually made sense and still contained logic. Unlike Super, which had asspulls and plot armor. How about you wake up? Super will never reach the level of Z.
@@lapplandkun9273 i never said super was any good. Super was crap. DBZ was fun to watch as a kid. But it is really shitty story telling.
@@OreoTHOR the story telling was great if we forget a shitload ammount of filler episoded where you dont even know if its real or not
I watched dbz at like 15 while i was in hs so its not nostalgia, the show is one of the best things i saw in my life
And in your opinion who had the best character development if its not Vegeta?
He went from cold and ruthless warrior to a guy that is in love and has a family
I remember watching DBZ when it first came out, and it was so awesome. By middle school, we had a whole table of kids that just talked about nothing but DBZ. I'll still be 40 and watching DBZ.
I know someone didn't see it until they were in their 70's, they'd never even heard about it before until then and they said it was the greatest show they ever seen, became hooked and would got angry at me if I forget to mention to them it was on, they had to see EVERY episode.
Same here 36 and still watching the great invention Dragon Ball Z.
This is absolutely fantastic, wow. I don't really have much to say other than that, just...excellent work, man!
I look forward to having a son, then when the time comes and he is of age, we sit down and watch dragon ball z once he's finished his homework on a daily basis after school
It's fantastic. We finished Z and are now on Dragonball. Will move onto Super after that. My son may be a bigger fan than I now.
Ha so my 8 year old and I watch almost everyday. I started him at Dragon Ball and we made our way all the way through that, then Z and now we are at the end of the Buu saga. I even had him watch all of the movies with me. Next up Dragon Ball Super
That's dope. Sounds like plan to me

I’ll always remember the time when my father and I finally started to repair our relationship(he had been pretty emotionally abusive and kind of violent, but started going to church and getting a little better as a person) and as I returned home from school(middle school) we would put DBZ on.
What a great show.
That's nice🙂
How is the relationship now ?

Turned 30 recently. Definitely the anime that changed it all. I remember having vivid dreams of being able to drop a Kamehameha.

Despite never winning, to me he was still the best and probably 60% of the reason I was so hooked on the show back then as a kid watching it on Toonami.
Kudos to this awesome video ! Thank you so much for making it (:. It makes me feel good.

I wish Japanese people realized just how much anime and manga is loved in the west.
I'm sure they do
@@Akira00920 he means to say that to the animators and directors of these animes. As there is a lot of depression in the anime industry.
@@samtepal3892 you have no idea if that's what he meant homie. You can say that if you're adding a point or personal opinion. But don't put words in other people's mouths like you know that they meant what you feel and didn't mean the dumb shit they just said lol
There will never be enough Vegeta crying in the rain to express our collective sorrow in Toriyama's passing 😭

Adorni I feel like GT gave more light to Piccolo's character than Z did.
Piccolo sacrifices himself for Gohan?
Piccolo has the same arc as Vegeta, it just didn't take him 10 years to get over himself.
Piccolo>Tien>Vegeta

No other anime will ever be as iconic as this show. Characters, art style, the entire atmosphere, the message its conveying. Everything about it is legendary
"Go to any random episode and you'll likely find two overly muscled men beating the ever loving soul out of each other" perfectly summarizes DBZ imo
Dragon ball is basically what if fighting games had shows which i wish there was more of
Wow. You've perfectly described why Vegeta is by far the most nuanced character not only in Dragon Ball Z, but in pretty much all of battle Manga/Anime. Thank you.
This brought back flashbacks of when Toonami's DBZ got "stuck" right in the middle of the Namek saga. *shudders*
Over and over for years it felt like.
Michael Ward lmao so when did y’all finally see it’s conclusion
God how many times it restarted when Goku finally arrives to Namek lol
I vaguely remember Goku about to fight Android 19 and then it reset to the Saiyan Saga... I rarely seen the Cell Arc until after Majin Buu sadly.
@Weston Meyer That shit was annoying. Lol good times though. 😂
Came to find this to appreciate Akira Toriyamas work
im really glad i grew up watching dragon ball first before Z, this way the tone shift of the shows felt more natural, also following goku from child to adult while youre growing yourself ^^
also this way it wasnt so jarring like for those who went and saw the original DB only after watching Z
great video btw, always appreciate your work ^^
bocodamondo Huh, I went on the other end and stumbled into GT first making my way backwards.
TIL there were places in the world that got Dragon Ball Z before Dragon Ball
well there wasn't really a "tone shift" per se, it just went on with the seriousness that dragon ball had in the final 2 arcs* (until the ludicrous power level trip started after the cell arc*)
So how is your computer now?
We didn't get the anime in my country before most of the manga had been translated here, I started from Vol. 2, only managed to find Vol. 1 a few months later.

Awsamazing Eden it’s christmasssssss!!!!!!!!!!
As a little kid i hated Vegeta so much and loved Goku
When I grew up i realised Vegeta makes more sense....and now his my fav. character ever
Goku and Vegeta have had their good and bad moments, it's unfortunate that Toriyama keeps flanderizing Goku in Super.
Exactly I hate this ignorant self absorbed American video.
