    This is one of the grimiest fights in the series. All bets are off. Something about early Piccolo is just how willing he is to maim his opponet to get the leg up (pun intended). Demon King Piccolo did the same thing with Goku's limbs. Left him with damn near no options then prepared the final blow. Made the same mistake too. If Goku wasn't as tenacious and creative as he is though he would've lost.
    Win by any means necessary has always been Piccolo's MO even if it doesn't always work out for him.

    • @welshlout3400

      It’s kinda a reverse parallel to the fight with Vegeta, where the heroes succeed thanks to using some uncharacteristically scrappy tactics. Learned from Piccolo, perhaps?
      And then all the protagonists fight a bit like this in the Namek saga, including and *especially* Vegeta, who probably learnt it from his experience on Earth 😂

    • @dentkort
      @dentkort Месяц назад +4

      @@welshlout3400Vegeta has always been willing to sacrifice his pride to get the win, even though it's always a last resort. Gohan mostly stuck to being basic when he's not angry and a monster when he is. Krillin stuck to support roles as usual. While Goku's legendary creativity is what let him land as many hits on Frieza as he did in his base form, while his tenacity let him outlast Frieza in the anime (frieza never had a chance in the manga).

      I know it is a controversial opinion but OG DB was way better than DBZ. The over reliance on the Saiyans, particularly Goku, and transformations created a miasma of tropes that should have died when Z ended yet lived on vicariously through derivatives like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, MHA, etc.
      OG DB was the best for it's focus on unique techniques, creative fight choreography and story progression. Thanks for breaking down these fights. They remind me of the other RUclipsrs who analyze legendary boxing matches.

    "Piccolo on demon time" nah, he on GREAT DEMON KING time! And Goku's composure is honestly his biggest strength throughout the series, in addition to his tenacity and creativity. Against every villain, Goku remains calm and keeps his head in the game, while his opponents lose their minds when they get pushed. Happened against Piccolo, Nappa, Vegeta, Frieza, you name it. Because Goku lacks the thing that's holding them all back. Ego. They're all so preoccupied by how great they think they are, when that gets challenged they crumbled. But Goku's not in it to be superior, to be better than others, he's doing this to be better than himself and improve. And to improve you have to admit that you can do better, gotta be humble. Its the reason Vegeta had to admit at the end of the series that Goku is the best. Cause when Goku gets challenged, he doesn't get worked up, he gets to work.
    As always, LOVE the analysis man!

    Man these keep getting better and better. You can really sense the passion you put in the videos. Believe me in a matter of no time your chanel will grow exponentially and the work will pay off. Regarding the fight it truly is a classic and a setup for DB Z.

    Incredible analysis, was waiting for this banger. But one thing I want to mention since I never see anyone talking about it in the comments, major respect for the Bible verses at the end of each video. I also leave each video with a little bit more to think about.

    That last round would have been a complete stomp in goku’s favor if didn’t turn his back. He learned from that in his fight with frieza on namek tho

      He dropped his guard way too many times in the fight to write it off as a fluke. It wasn’t just a Goku mistake, it was a Piccolo capitalization

    As someone who's been consuming dragon ball since the old Toonami days and now revels in the modern online revival of the franchise, it warms my heart to see the fanbase come this far with how they interpret and interact with the material. No other franchise has such a healthy analytical meta and to see it grow and reform to the point where videos like these can exist is beautiful. Gone are the days when America "didn't get" Dragon Ball and misconceptions were taken as hard facts. Truly the franchise that just keeps on giving. Keep up the good work.

    My absolute favourite fight in all of DB/Z/GT/Super. The absolute bullshit these two threw at each other in this fight is legendary. After the warm up where Goku faked being knocked out by the ki blast spam and Piccolo calling him out on it, they'd constantly pull another ace up their sleeve to surprise the other. They were true equals and Goku won on a technicality (the ring out) because in the end they were both so battered, bruised and broken that neither could even stand. And absolutely incredible writing from Toriyama by having Goku use all kinds of tricks and maneuvers to avoid showing he learned how to fly until he absolutely needed it.
