To me everything went downhill after the Sayain arc and kept getting worse with each successive arc. By the time of the Boo arc it was painfully obvious Toriyama was a shadow of his former self. Barely anything in that arc makes any sense or ever goes anywhere.

That's why he was and is my favorite character. He was clever, underhanded, and he had insane willpower. The guy could "do this all day" like Captain America.
When I was. Kid watching this fight, I was astonished by the amount of willpower buddy had. I saw him take down Goku after getting hit directly on by a KKx4 Kamehameha. He gets his tail chopped off, reverting to his original form while getting jumped by the 3 chumps, TANKING a spirit bomb (which did lose some off its power but still guys), and going head to head with oozru Gohan!
Then he STILL got back up when Krillin called him ugly!!

I think Namek was absolute peak DBZ, the saiyan origins and the build up to Frieza's power and the Legendary Super Saiyan Form.
Android and Cell were also really good, especially because it was the culmination of the foreshadowing of Gohan having some hidden power, something they were doing since the very first episode.
After that, Buu arc and everything beyond to me is just lower quality product. Gohan should've went on as the main character and even if he didn't and Goku did come back, the writing was really dumbed down and shit quality.
With Gohan as the main character I could see Vegeta still having an interesting redemption arc forgiving himself for his past mistakes and becoming a true fighter. And other guys staying a bit more relevant which was always fun to see.

Even if it has flaws like “Goku could’ve killed Majin Buu in SSJ3 Before he transformed” or some other example like “Why didn’t Vegeta kill semi-perfect cell?” But the saga is good anyway. Also I would use Gohan vs Super Buu as an example, but, that is a easy explanation. Due to the fact that Gohan was arrogant during the fight and he was too confident, this was more shown during the Buuhan vs Vegito fight since Buuhan has the intelligence of piccolo, but the personality of Gohan and also Gotenks.

Honestly I'd say this entire fight is probably one of my favorite parts of dbz. Vegeta is above everyone we have met up to now but he's not so unreachable that goku can't make up the difference with kaioken. It was the perfect use of power levels
Raditz was also pretty good with how goku and piccolo had to be clever around his power and use knowledge they already Gained through experience to take him down but raditz uses his brain as well to feed off of gokus good heart to regain the advantage.
Honestly saiyan saga was fantastic all around

  • @WickedKnightAlbel
    @WickedKnightAlbel 11 месяцев назад +307

The beam struggle really don't get talked about enough by enough people
We got Vegeta reeling so bad that he's prolly not even sure if he can keep getting hit this bad with the fight at its current pace so he goes for what he thinks should be his hail mary play in daring Goku into a match of ki levels which he's only marginally sure he'll win out
Then we got Goku feeling more exhausted than he ever has in his life from what an absolute number the Kaioken is doing to his muscles, to the point he ain't even sure if his body can withstand the ki surge of trying to match this guy's beam
Both of them know if they undercharge the shot they'll get overtaken but if they fire too late, they'll take the hit, and in Goku's case so will the planet. Absolute high noon standoff moment where it's a matter of who draws first likely deciding the fight, and neither side is sure they can win even with their all
Goku making the last-second call to go x4 was easily his craziest play of the whole fight since he had no way of knowing if his body wouldn't just combust and defuse the entire Kamkehameha, and it immediately went from a smooth beam to a straight-up water hose of ki practically spraying all over with Goku barely managing to keep it aimed right
If Vegeta had let go of his Galick Gun right then he'd have prolly been able to get out of the way and countered. But the man just _had_ to keep trying to push it back when it was obvious he was about to lose the clash he asked for. That split-second of pride and absolute shock that Goku was hiding yet another level cost him hard
You just don't get tension like that anymore

The x4 kaioken Kamehameha was also done in the worlds strongest movie going in a beam clash with dr Wheelo, and Goku is nearly overtaken. however in the ocean dub, Peter Kelamis screams power up and it just sends chills down the spine.

yup, just like always, Vegeta's pride is both his biggest strength and his worst weakness.
It created so many top tier moments, but so many Ls. You legit cannot say that he should humble himself because his pride was what took his so far, his Super Saiyan transformation came from the grief of losing his edge in a moment of weakness, the whole Majin sequence is top tier DBZ. But at the same time, if he didn't have it, he would've so many Ws

My only problem with this sequence is how Vegeta slips from the blast so easily to avoid any further damage. I mean, that thing should have wiped him out immediately after making contact or at least destroy a part of him (like Vegeta did to Cell with the Final Flash). Makes no sense and I kinda hate it, because otherwise the whole thing is perfect.

Of course Vegeta thought he lost. He's a prideful bastard. In his mind, a prince like him should be able to knock the lights out of a "low class warrior" like Goku with a single punch. The fact that Goku put up so much resistance, dealt so much damage to Vegeta, and lived to tell about it is a "defeat" to Vegeta regardless of how hard he pummeled Goku in the end. Nothing short of total victory and Goku's death would've satisfied him at that time. And he didn't even get the dragon balls either, in case anyone forgot the whole point of him being on Earth in the first place.

This fight was the culmination of Dragon Ball's time as a martial arts manga. You'll notice that Goku gets increasingly injured and incapacitated as his fights develop: against King Piccolo, Goku has an arm and his legs mangled, so he's able to win the fight solely with one arm. Against Piccolo Jr., Goku becomes completely incapacitated, only winning the fight by flying behind Piccolo and headbutting him in the gut, knocking him out of the ring. In this fight with Vegeta though, this is the first and only time Goku is pushed to his complete physical limit, and can simply no longer fight. Without Gohan, Krillin and Yajirobe, Goku would've died. Of course, Goku did push Vegeta to using the Oozaru, but after Goku used the x4 Kaio-ken, the fight was probably over for him anyway. Vegeta was simply stronger. After this, Dragon Ball develops more along the line of power scaling than martial arts technique, but this is the time in the series where that transition first began, and in many ways, it was the perfect melding of the two. I can understand easily why this is so many peoples' favourite fight in the series.

  • @marche800

Goku won the ideological battle. The very fact that he, a commoner, was able to push the prince of all saiyans far enough to use his great ape form already shattered Vegeta's elitist mentality, but undeniably Vegeta got the W overall.

this fight was the hypest shit ever. it laid the seeds for these two absolute monsters’ future rivalry perfectly. goku’s drive to grow after this fight was some great shit too. the thing fanboys don’t realize about goku and vegeta is that it doesn’t matter who’s stronger at any given moment or in any one fight. cuz whenever one of them falls behind, they’re just gonna work that much harder to close the gap. who’s stronger doesn’t matter, because they bring out each other’s full potential. im just watching dbz for the first time rn and i love these two total beasts so much.

What I found interesting is that Goku does better against Vegeta then he does Raditz. Yet Goku mentions that Vegeta seems unbeatable and is his greatest challenge. However I'd argue the power gap between him and Raditz was bigger. Him fighting Raditz with a 300 power level was a bigger challenge than him fighting Vegeta with an 8000 power level with all of King Kai's moves.
