Vegeta was fighting for his Pride and Honor. Ain't no way he was going down easy! Even Majin Buu couldn't keep the Prince down because he kept getting back up!
To me everything went downhill after the Sayain arc and kept getting worse with each successive arc. By the time of the Boo arc it was painfully obvious Toriyama was a shadow of his former self. Barely anything in that arc makes any sense or ever goes anywhere.
That's why he was and is my favorite character. He was clever, underhanded, and he had insane willpower. The guy could "do this all day" like Captain America. When I was. Kid watching this fight, I was astonished by the amount of willpower buddy had. I saw him take down Goku after getting hit directly on by a KKx4 Kamehameha. He gets his tail chopped off, reverting to his original form while getting jumped by the 3 chumps, TANKING a spirit bomb (which did lose some off its power but still guys), and going head to head with oozru Gohan! Then he STILL got back up when Krillin called him ugly!!
I’m convinced that this is the peak of all dragonball. Just look at that animation, so high quality; the animation in the hair, everything. They went all out here
I think Namek was absolute peak DBZ, the saiyan origins and the build up to Frieza's power and the Legendary Super Saiyan Form. I loved this video. no stupid power scaling nonsense, just pure skills and a couple tricks. and my mans got the vibes, too. i should check out some more of your videos.
it's crazy that Vegeta's character development was sparked by this fight and wanting to beat Goku, but technically Vegeta has won every time they've fought.
He probably tells himself that every day. I always took it as, “That fight was fucking awesome, let’s do it again”. It takes him a looooong time to admit that out loud. He loves Goku and their fights
Technical wins in Vegeta's mind are losses. That's why he killed Napa. He grew up a child prodigy and elite at fighting and typically mops his opponents until arrive on earth. When someone is stronger than him or close it scared him (Broly, Frieza). Goku is used to the technical win because he goes against stronger and stronger people each time but also had no intention of killing or even dominating Vegeta so based on his mentality he won cause he had a good fight and saved earth
Not technically. He won all fights. Even in the Majin Vegeta vs. SSJ2 Goku fight. Just because Goku chose not to use SSJ3 doesnt fault Vegeta he still handled that business and won. That's why it's always misleading when people make it as if Vegeta is a loser to Goku.
Excellent analysis. Bold take to give Vegeta the W. Even hardcore super fans often who dominate DBZ YT content space lack critical thinking to give fresh takes on this material. Your logic, breakdown and delivery is amazing keep up the good work!
The fact that Vegeta can walk after this fight is a testament to Vegeta's tenacity and Frieza's medicare package. Goku was trying to put this man in a wheelchair just like he did Nappa.
I feel like the fact their healing pods were able to heal a diced up Freeza means they could have healed Nappa's back. Vegeta was just disgusted by his weakness and trying to guard a cripple in a fight would handicap him.
@@thegatorhator6822 Well, they did say that the healing pods in Ressurection of F were updated models, but you're point absolutely still stands. Vegeta recovered after being bear within an inch of his life (needing to be on life support while riding in his pod). There's no reason to think Nappa wouldn't have recovered just fine. Especially since, if all else failed, they could just do Cybernetic repairs like they did with Frieza (although much more minor).
Vegeta is the one who misses goku the most when he's dead, or just gone for too long. He lowkey loved goku like a brother but didnt show it. Its kinda like a Sibling Rivalry for him.
Now I want to see you do soo many other fight analysis in this style man, it's soo good! Ichigo vs Zaraki, Goku vs Kid Buu, Kakashi vs Obito, Naruto vs Sasuke (part one or Shippuden, either or), All might vs All for One.
This is an amazing video, the commentary, the humor and rythem of it all. Not to mention how it’s in depth and easy to understand. Can’t wait for more!
I don't watch combat sports much but this way of analysing the fight was so fun to watch, hope this becomes a series. It'd probably work really well for Dragon Ball fights even moreso than DBZ.
When I was a kid sprinting home to watch this show after school, even my Dad (a real stick in the mud sometimes) was like “oh shit”when this fight was on
Of course Vegeta thought he lost. He's a prideful bastard. In his mind, a prince like him should be able to knock the lights out of a "low class warrior" like Goku with a single punch. The fact that Goku put up so much resistance, dealt so much damage to Vegeta, and lived to tell about it is a "defeat" to Vegeta regardless of how hard he pummeled Goku in the end. Nothing short of total victory and Goku's death would've satisfied him at that time. And he didn't even get the dragon balls either, in case anyone forgot the whole point of him being on Earth in the first place.
I love this fight so much already and now I get to see it in a new light? In a new way? I love the breakdown so much and how much more technical this battle really was! Really shows the knowledge and skill of both fighters of one of THE best fights in Dragon Ball ever.
This fight was the culmination of Dragon Ball's time as a martial arts manga. You'll notice that Goku gets increasingly injured and incapacitated as his fights develop: against King Piccolo, Goku has an arm and his legs mangled, so he's able to win the fight solely with one arm. Against Piccolo Jr., Goku becomes completely incapacitated, only winning the fight by flying behind Piccolo and headbutting him in the gut, knocking him out of the ring. In this fight with Vegeta though, this is the first and only time Goku is pushed to his complete physical limit, and can simply no longer fight. Without Gohan, Krillin and Yajirobe, Goku would've died. Of course, Goku did push Vegeta to using the Oozaru, but after Goku used the x4 Kaio-ken, the fight was probably over for him anyway. Vegeta was simply stronger. After this, Dragon Ball develops more along the line of power scaling than martial arts technique, but this is the time in the series where that transition first began, and in many ways, it was the perfect melding of the two. I can understand easily why this is so many peoples' favourite fight in the series.
Goku won the ideological battle. The very fact that he, a commoner, was able to push the prince of all saiyans far enough to use his great ape form already shattered Vegeta's elitist mentality, but undeniably Vegeta got the W overall.
Ain’t no way goku was gonna be able to actually beat vegeta back in the saiyan saga. Kaioken x4 was the end for him but he tricked vegeta into thinking kaioken x4 was true main power.

found your channel recently, this has to be my favorite video so far! you gotta do more fight breakdowns, you’re a great commentator. this fight was the hypest shit ever. it laid the seeds for these two absolute monsters’ future rivalry perfectly. goku’s drive to grow after this fight was some great shit too. the thing fanboys don’t realize about goku and vegeta is that it doesn’t matter who’s stronger at any given moment or in any one fight. cuz whenever one of them falls behind, they’re just gonna work that much harder to close the gap. who’s stronger doesn’t matter, because they bring out each other’s full potential. im just watching dbz for the first time rn and i love these two total beasts so much.
This fight got me into DBZ in 1996. You said everything i feel about thia fight in illustration and writing and also how I see Vegeta. He doesnt get no where near enough respect.geeat video
Bros foot coming off the ground as he increased kaioken for the beam struggle was a nice little touch. Easily one of my favorite fights in any form of media
8:05 Goku did the same thing Golden Frieza did. Got a new trick, had to use it before training and adjusting to it. Muscles don't normally pulse like that.
What I found interesting is that Goku does better against Vegeta then he does Raditz. Yet Goku mentions that Vegeta seems unbeatable and is his greatest challenge. However I'd argue the power gap between him and Raditz was bigger. Him fighting Raditz with a 300 power level was a bigger challenge than him fighting Vegeta with an 8000 power level with all of King Kai's moves.

I'd be more happy if more shounen stories had this level of skill and power balance that make every little attack you get feel like a victory and every counter win or lose.
Freeza is a close second but the Saiyan form came after krillin was gone while kaioken and every skill we see was already established throughout the Saiyan saga.
Nah I'd disagree with the last point. They probably would have made Goku turn Super Saiyan early or given Goku an even greater rage boost.
@@SensibleSaiyanwhats wild to me is how even after the intense battle, you could argue vegeta wasn’t as badly damaged as the rest of them, the major damage he took was tanked a times 4 kamehameha and then getting crushed by gohan
We say Goku is the father of anime another proof

Piccolo jr vs Goku was so good
it's crazy that Vegeta's character development was sparked by this fight and wanting to beat Goku, but technically Vegeta has won every time they've fought.
@@kpimkpim349 Goku is a crumpled mess your mental gymnastics are wilder than the Ginyu Force's poses bro. 1-0 Vegeta here
@@MarkMeridiusDecimus3-0 cope dickshiner
Not technically. He won all fights. Even in the Majin Vegeta vs. SSJ2 Goku fight. Just because Goku chose not to use SSJ3 doesnt fault Vegeta he still handled that business and won. That's why it's always misleading when people make it as if Vegeta is a loser to Goku.
This channel is partly responsible for inspiring me to train again.
I love to hear that, man!
I absolutely love this round/point breakdown. I hope you do more DBZ or anime fight reviews like this.
Excellent analysis. Bold take to give Vegeta the W. Even hardcore super fans often who dominate DBZ YT content space lack critical thinking to give fresh takes on this material. Your logic, breakdown and delivery is amazing keep up the good work!
Thanks man, I appreciate it
The fact that Vegeta can walk after this fight is a testament to Vegeta's tenacity and Frieza's medicare package. Goku was trying to put this man in a wheelchair just like he did Nappa.
Frieza’s Medicare package 😂
That thumbnail had me rolling🤣
I knew someone would appreciate the Herb Dean the thumbnail 😂
@@SensibleSaiyan is that why he didn't stop the fight even though goku almost died? Herb dean's fault 😂
@@rgual7513 lmaooo Herb Dean with the late stoppage
Vegeta is the one who misses goku the most when he's dead, or just gone for too long. He lowkey loved goku like a brother but didnt show it. Its kinda like a Sibling Rivalry for him.
6:51 - I mean it's easy to say "compose yourself" when you're not the one who got hit with an asteroid-level punch to the stomach 😂
True 😂
Rewatching DBZ this fight was crazier than I remember it as a kid
Now I want to see you do soo many other fight analysis in this style man, it's soo good!
Ichigo vs Zaraki, Goku vs Kid Buu, Kakashi vs Obito, Naruto vs Sasuke (part one or Shippuden, either or), All might vs All for One.

man what can i say this is fr the best of both worlds bro put dragon ball into mma format fr ive never seen a better combination for late night vid
Glad you liked it man
This is an amazing video, the commentary, the humor and rythem of it all.
I always viewed it as Vegeta won the battle, but Goku won the war
As an amateur kickboxer and Muay Thai fighter who was a DBZ fan as a preteen, this is one of my favorite thing I've seen today
I love this fight so much already and now I get to see it in a new light? In a new way? I love the breakdown so much and how much more technical this battle really was! Really shows the knowledge and skill of both fighters of one of THE best fights in Dragon Ball ever.
bro keep doing this it’s such a refresher from the training camps (not saying that they bad i like them)
I’m gonna keep doing both. It’s refreshing for me too making multiple types of content
Vegeta's durability during his whole time on Earth was absolutely amazing. It's a miracle he didn't end up going home with the trophy
One of the best analysis' I've seen of this fight yet. Pretty much on par with totally not mark's, just for different things
I saw this fight a million times and remember it blow for blow, yet your breakdown made it even more engaging. Great video!
Wow you just got another sub my friend, from someone who is a diehard boxing fan and Dragon Ball fan please keep these breakdowns coming 🔥🔥🔥

"Lost the battle but won the war"
Decisive Earthling victory
Ain’t no way goku was gonna be able to actually beat vegeta back in the saiyan saga. Kaioken x4 was the end for him but he tricked vegeta into thinking kaioken x4 was true main power.
@@Gilbert_Dice_Gottfried uhhh yeah? That's the plot of the Saiyan Saga in Dragon Ball Z.

found your channel recently, this has to be my favorite video so far! you gotta do more fight breakdowns, you’re a great commentator.
this fight was the hypest shit ever. it laid the seeds for these two absolute monsters’ future rivalry perfectly. goku’s drive to grow after this fight was some great shit too. the thing fanboys don’t realize about goku and vegeta is that it doesn’t matter who’s stronger at any given moment or in any one fight. cuz whenever one of them falls behind, they’re just gonna work that much harder to close the gap. who’s stronger doesn’t matter, because they bring out each other’s full potential. im just watching dbz for the first time rn and i love these two total beasts so much.
Glad you like the fight breakdown. I’m gonna have another one out this Friday
Man your videos make me appreciate the fight choreography and animation so much more! Excellent video!
This fight got me into DBZ in 1996. You said everything i feel about thia fight in illustration and writing and also how I see Vegeta. He doesnt get no where near enough respect.geeat video
This is a pretty cool and fun video. I’d love to see this turn into a series or cover the Majin Vegeta vs Goku fight in a similar style lol.
Its actually kinda poetic that Vegeta has never lost to Goku in a 1 on 1, but has been surpassed by him multiple times.

14:17 And even if Goku also could have transformed into an Oozaru, he would have just become a mindless beast, whereas Vegeta kept his intellect.
Amazing video, enjoyed the break down and analysis of the fight with the score cards, I would love to see more of these videos in the future.
Thanks man! Plenty more to come
I’m glad someone went about the fight honestly. Been saying the same thing for a while now lol.
Finally someone putting some respect on Vegeta’s name
I can't wait for more of these man I'm hyped
Bro i cant believe you dont have 1 million subs
