Though Percy (Logan Lerman), the half-human son of Greek god Poseidon, once saved the world, lately he's been feeling less than heroic. However, he doesn't have much time to brood -- the enchanted borders that protect Camp Half-Blood are dissolving, and a horde of mythical beasts threatens the demigods' sanctuary. In order to save Camp Half-Blood, Percy and his friends embark on a journey to the Sea of Monsters -- aka the Bermuda Triangle -- to find the magical Golden Fleece.
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (also known as Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters and Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters) is a 2013 fantasy adventure film directed by Thor Freudenthal from a screenplay by Marc Guggenheim, based on the 2006 novel The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. The sequel to Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010), it is the second and final installment in the Percy Jackson film series.
The film continues the adventures of Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) and his friends as they journey to the eponymous Sea of Monsters to retrieve the Golden Fleece in order to save the tree barrier that protects their home. Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario, and Jake Abel reprise their roles from the previous film, while Nathan Fillion and Anthony Head replace Dylan Neal and Pierce Brosnan, respectively. New additions to the cast include Leven Rambin, Douglas Smith, and Stanley Tucci.
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters was released theatrically in the United States on August 7, 2013, by 20th Century Fox. The film received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for its visuals and action, but criticism for its plot and characters. It grossed $200.9 million worldwide against a production budget of $90 million. A sequel based on The Titan's Curse was planned, but never produced. Following the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney in 2019, Disney consequently gained the rights to the Percy Jackson novels, upon which Riordan pitched a television adaptation for release on Disney+ in 2023.

And the author thought the first movie was bad, I can't imagine his opinion on this. They tried to squeeze too much into one movie, the writing was bad, the acting was atrocious, AND the final fight is so anticlimactic, it's not even funny. And then they end it on a cliffhanger, like they really thought they'd make a third one after this. DO NOT let you deter this from the recent show, though. It's actually pretty good.
Riorden made a masterpiece book series one of the best I have ever read this movie series does it a disgrace.

The Sea of Monsters is a basically Percy showing off powers he had no idea he even possessed. He also hijacked the quest from Clarisse (a daughter of Ares) because Grover is his best friend and he was having dreams that Grover was in danger.
- He aquired the Golden Fleece because Thalia's tree was poisoned so the camp's defense was weakening every day. Luke/Kronos was the one who poisoned the tree so they could steal it and heal Kronos to take over Olympus
- Tyson is a cyclops and was actually his friend from his new school. He had to be invited into the camp by Annabeth because he's a monster.
The main big bad, who wasnt supposed to show up till the last book, shows up in the SECOND MOVIE
You should just watch the Percy Jackson series they're a lot better and more accurate than to the book

One of the worst things about this movie compared to the book was the Mist. In the book, the Mist is an ever-present veil that hides the mystical world from the normal world, and can't be condenced into a stupid spray. I HATE THIS!!!!!
I love how the movie isn't THAT bad but everyone wants to ride that train as hard as possible.
this movie was atrocious and many people didn’t like it mainly because the author of PJ series had no part in this. the new show however is really good, and the author was a huge part of its creation. a lot of people love the show and it is really investing, definitely worth checking it out
I will say the films change a lot e.g. Kronos is meant to be the overarching final enemy of the series while Percy Thalia and a third character are part of the same overall plot.

As someone who didn’t read the books I loved the first movie the sequel however hated it💀. I can only imagine the anger I would’ve had if I read the books as well.
if you haven't I recommend reading the book or listening to an audio version of it, or watch a youtube commentary on the differences between the book and the movie, because starting right off of the bat; that protection was always there, it didn't become set because of Thalia's death. (plus they're great books, so)

There's so many things wrong with this movie. There's actually a video that i believe is like over an hour about everything the movie got wrong as an adaptation. But the thing about Poseidon not talking to Percy is especially stupid because in the last movie, he told Percy that he would be there when he needed him only to disregard that for a stupid side plot about Percy being ignored that goes nowhere and is never explained. With the way the final fight goes, you'd believe that they actually planned to just can the series and call it a day, but then they throw in Thalia coming back to life implying they wanted to continue and I'm scared to think of how they would manage to butcher the last 3 books for the movies. Also, for those who don't know, Thalia's name is pronounced with the TH rather than how the movie pronounced it without the H

My biggest peev is the heroic sacrifice to give someone time and in reality, 'just move your @ss and you'd have all made it'.

I enjoy some parts of the movies mainly the action scenes. But I felt like the Disney plus Series did a better job with the story and the plot. Yes some episodes were a bit of a slow burner but the last 4 episodes were my favourites.

They had 5 million less than the original budget from the first movie. Also, funny how no one noticed that Annabeth was a brunette in the first movie and now she's a blonde. You should watch the show it’s actually pretty great and a MUCH better adaptation of the books. Both of these movies have basically nothing to do with the books since the plots for 1&2 are completely different from the movies. The main cast is like the only thing I like about these movies, logan lerman, alexandra daddario and brandon t. jackson are all great and play off each other well it’s the only thing that works in these movies.
The books are so much better. The Disney+ series was also really good and the acting was way better.

The movies were good in a standalone sense, but they changed so much stuff from the books, and they tried to smush the other 4 books in the series into the second movie... It was rushed and they tried to make up for their changes in the first movie, like Annabeth's hair color. She is blonde in the books, they changed it in the first movie and then tried to change it back in this movie.. it's sad because the books are legendary, but they did not do them justice, which is mainly why these movies didn't continue..

I think the physical attributes wouldn’t have been that bad if it wasn’t for the complete mischaracterization of the trio, like they didn’t take the time to know who these characters really were
It’s crazy, I enjoyed the movies as someone who didn’t read the books while the readers hated them. But now with being an ATLA fan and hearing about the show, I understand the hate about adaptations. Y’all ever been on both sides of adaptations (fan side and newcomer side)?

The secong movie tried to use stuff from all the other books, took shit out of order, made a mess out of the story. First movie is ok, Second movie is 99% terrible, the 1% is them trying to fix annabeth hair and the missing characters (not that it worked but they tried).
