The 2 strokes are fast and fun to tinker with, but it's always something. Using it as reliable transportation is questionable.
The problem with this is that you lose the pedal angle and need wide pedals instead. This is totally bummer as a person who is used to driving a bicycle will keep hitting the engine with his/her foot. Putting the engine on the back was a really nice approach, gg

I love your explanations the fun rides. Love your personality. This community is small but I see you and this Channel doing something big and fun for the motorized bicycle community. Much love from Washington DC
I bought a friction drive kit from another company. They gave me MANY options including MANY RUBBER DRIVE WHEEL SIZES. 5 years, no issues, was however $150 more expensive since it's either a Subaru or Honda engine in 2 or 4 stroke...
I know this video is Old but I’m not sure what his issues are. I’ve had two kits from Staton that both broke and now I have two kits from bike Berry that were given to me one I have been using for two years without any issues with the 38 cc motor does 33 mph.
I watched this before I got a kit from bike berry and was worried I’d be screwed but went with them anyways. Every thing was right except the electrical which was fixed with some pliers and a knife. To do these kinda things requires tinkering and I don’t think many realize that when they get into it.
I found most of those friction drive housings have the holes for the roller misaligned. That is what causes the clutch issues. I had to cut the steel in the housing bracket and reweld it to get the roller aligned. Plus the clutch bell/drum is a weak point. They fail early and oten. Easier to make your own if you want it right
Found a old school l 3 wheel edger , briggs 3 1/2 hp swapped the belt pulley for a clutch sprocket used the rear sprocket 44 t" fab"d up some angle iron to make that book rack frame and slotted it 4 chain tensioning so you don't have to take a link out of the chain for fine-tuning
A Staton kit and a Honda GX engine is the way to go. Expensive yes. But you get what you pay for. I have one mounted on a Sun women's bike, with straight (not curved) frame tubes. I'm a guy, but I'm disabled, and I can't get my leg over the top bar of a men's bike, so it was my only choice. This was a single speed bike, and was geared to high for me to pedal enough to get it going. I swapped out the front crank with one from a mountain bike with a really tiny inner sprocket, and put the chain on that sprocket. I also had to replace the front fork with one I could install a brake on. and lastly, I installed a gas tank from some kind of landscape equipment (I don't know what exactly, I found it in the junk pile at work and it fit) on top of the engine mount bracket, just slightly higher than the carburetor. The tank was designed for a vacuum operated carburetor mounted on top. So I had to weld a rectangular plate on top of the tank, cut a round hole in it, and weld in a filler. I drilled a hole in the bottom of the tank and welded in a bung to attach the fuel line to. None of this was unexpected, I had been designing it for some time. When I had it all working properly, I disassembled it and painted the bicycle frame, engine mount kit, and gas tank. It looks factory built, and over the last few months it has worked perfectly. Everything fit properly, nothing had to be rigged. I even fabricated and welded a thick metal plate to the bicycle frame to bolt the engine mount to, so it wouldn't crush the frame when the bolts were tightened, and could never move out of place. I have a Honda GX50 motor, and I expect this bike to have a long and trouble free life. It gets me to work and back every day.
That's frickin awesome man. You should see mine man it's a mad max death trap with no brakes. I got a 49cc hausheng 4 stroke friction drive on a BMX bike. It goes 32mph. I'm looking to get a station inc friction drive kit and just swap the engine to that kit. Because bike berry is absolute garbage.
Good for You! With bike kits, be it gas or electric you need to be handy, and able to think 'outside the box'. The choice to go with Staton was a good one. They have been in business for a longtime and seem dedicated to making and selling quality products.
When I was first considering a motorized bike build I was considering making a purchase from bike berry but just through videos here on youtube and reading comments I decided that I'd explore other options
I have the same gxh50 clone engine for my 20in friction drive but I used a staton bracket. I run a pulse fuel pump (highly recommend) because my fuel tank is mounted opposite side of the engine. I run the pulse pump from the crank case vent port on the side of one of those 4 strokes. I never had a problem

I spent about an hour and a half hand filing it in to fit, since at the time I couldn't afford any other means to do so. It was so rediculous. And then came the issue of the big U Plate holding the friction spindle being way too thin so I had to go to the hardware store and get a thick bar cut to the perfect size and jam it in between the plates so they would stop causing uneeded pressure on the friction drive spindal bearings. It's been a year now and somehow it's holding up but I'm going to get a station friction drive kit and just put this 4 stroke onto that that one since that one is much MUCH more thought out and way higher quality. I think it would be cool on a BMX bike or something small Or Add it to one of your two strokes And probably never have to Pedal again . She would probably like the 49 4-stroke It's super simple , easy to ride and fun . I'd probably look at a 79 but I'm not familiar . I'm glad you did this thanks
Meh I'll pick my homemade friction drive bike over that but I do think the regular in frame mounted 4-stroke engines with the belt reduction system is a good choice for a bike and the engine can be upgraded to.
Lots of problems installing my BikeBerry motor 49cc kit. No instructions & missing parts - braces on rear - fuel line too short-kill switch line too short and again no instructions. Had to splice kill switch wires. Waiting and waiting for parts.
Bike berry was a good company years ago. The problem is they have a supply problem. Many of there high end products like the 4 stroke engines are hard to get replacement parts for. I had one of there 79cc and I burned out the centrifugal clutch. I waited over a year watching for them to have them in stock. I gave up and got rid of the motor. There crank shaft was a size that I could not find the clutch from some place else. There was also a problem with the bike they sold me and said the engine kit would fit. I had to cut and drill to make it work. Even then it was never what It could have been. Until they work out all there supply and demand problems I would only go there for small end items.
i have had a ton of experience with bikeberry and their support. The website is notorious for not having detailed info and will say that the factory is the one with the info. They do not spec out screws, bolts, threaded holes, diameters of parts, lumens or anything needed to source or repair parts. They are relying on people buying entire bikes with installed motors because on many occasions with many different representatives they said it would come with if you bought the entire completed bike. The parts they sell don't even necessarily fit the frames and bikes they sell. I have an F-zero frame and i had to mod or buy new hardware for basically every part. Just be aware it is a project when starting one of these especially from bikeberry.
Hey man I was doing some research as I intend on building my own motorised bike using a 66/80cc bbr tuning black angle fire bicycle engine kit 2 stokes from bike berry. I was just having trouble figuring out a suitable mountain bike that this set would fit I was looking at the cannondale trail 8 microshift mtb 2021. Is it possible to motorise this bike. If not do you have any suggestions in and around the same price as the cannondale I would really appreciate it. Also I love your videos. Thanks
Get a HONDA or SUBARU 4 Stroke gas engine….. we have No issues, all our motorized bikes always start & run smoothly We never modified them .. keep its as original Honda & Subaru…with OEM parts , even Honda spark plug, engine oil etc…
I ordered ebike kit from bikeberry with similar results. Incomplete kit and total lack of customer service. They actually told me to take it to a professional.
that must be a universal kit as you have to search the universe to find the bicycle it fits surprised it does not have a tension arm so the friction drive can be lifted off the wheel allowing it to spin freely
Sorry to hear your 4stroke engine was not a good experience so far. Aww i see the problem. Friction Drive 4stroke Kit. Always go with the Phatmoto 4stroke to use. Glade to hear you may move it to the triangle part at some point.
I had a bycicle engine installed on my bike back in 1984, it was a K&S bike Machine, someone said it was a Mitsubishi 39 cc engine and it had the same anchorage as this one, it kept unwelding my frames
Are most of your problems related to the bike? Other than missing parts? I’m gonna probably sound really stupid but do I need a fuel filter, I bought this kit because I’m not good with engines at all and I needed something simple/reliable to get to work
Glad I found your video man, SAME EXACT ISSUES, no hardware, the long tensioner nut they show in their video has no studs that fit it in my bag, and the quick release doesn’t fit it, absolute trash of a kit I’m glad I got it from them on eBay so ebay will give my money back
Also how did you fix the issue cause right now mine just spins cause the clutch is locked, so I can’t even drop the engine cause the shaft is spinning so when it hits the tire it shreds the rubber or stalls the engine…
Great video bro. I haven’t ever tryed the friction drive because I figured it would wear the back tire out faster. I only built 2 stroke but was going to build my son a 4 stroke bike would be safer with the centrificial clutch I just don’t want him to dump the clutch on a two stroke and wrecking into something. Love the content wish my gf would ride one they r so much fun when they run and everything functions fine.
Some Guy on facebook tested this vs the normal 2-stroke chain drive. He was only getting around 200 miles on the back tire, the whole thing was shredded. Compare that to the normal 2000- 4000 miles the normal tire lasts.
Thats what i ordered, when i opened the box there was a broken carb bouncing around, i tried for weeks to contact them in different ways, i was never able to contact them, finally i gave up and ordered a new carb from them, about a month later i got it. Motor is still running great. As for "my experience" the motor is ok but customer service is Very Poor.
It seems the energy transmission between that drive wheel and the bicycle tire is very inefficient and maybe a four stroke with a direct drive transmission to the rear wheel may have better performance but then again...why? Why when you can get so much more power out of the small and easily modified two stroke options? Even when theyre absolute JUNK you can still make em decent with a little ingenuity and elbow grease. Im sure the same holds true with a four stroke kit but they havent made one cool lookin enough or with a comparable price point for me to give one a go.
Hey nice review! I was looking at 4 stroke kits, as I dove into the thought of strapping a motor onto a bike. Strangely enough, that issue with the friction drive bearing tension happened then also. Resolved the same way too. Didn't see the googly eyes first time though properly but, after you said it was in there. I tried my KIMS (keep in memory skills ) and thought about it and whoosh there it waas.
Hey Folks, I bought my kit from Bikeberry when they first came out.Ran great for about a mouth or so,then it happened!!! The bell houseing on the clutch cracked! My personal option ( an you will see why) is that it has a design flew. The vibation of the engine thru the center shift cracks the bell houseing.I bought 5 houseing bells for it untill i just give up.Under bikeberrys terms they kept sending me defective bell houseings. Each had defects in the weilding. An on each try to replace it,again it would crack in the exact same place.Replaced the engine then it happened again!SAME THING! Again i tryed!!! { to make a long story shourt) They ran out my warranty sending me bell housesings that thy known @ie where not going to fix the prob! It was my first bike!(SAD)
By someone I was informed by someone that predecessors make it in 49cc or they made one but I haven't seen one yetI have looked also because I was informed it was already made but I cannot find one either but I've heard rumors that there sounds like the plan I'm building one or they already had one but I have not been able to find it
You got a bunk one or you set it up wrong or went to hard on it while the break in. And you can put a pump on it. You just mess with it to much and end up fucking it up because you are tripping on a noise or something wired

Do you think using a fixie bike is better for that kit and did you solve the belt problem and how
What brand of bike is that? It looks like a good bike for a build

@@LAHover Thanks, appreciate it!
i have had a ton of experience with bikeberry and their support.
Hey guys I want buy a kit for my bike but my dad won’t let me. Do you guys have any suggestions to convince him?
Is the piston on the window looking out with Henry and another piston lol.
Maybe consider getting the chain driven set up instead of the friction drive.👍👍
On some your other videos whats the red tank you take with you for extra gas? Where do you get something like that?
Hey man I was doing some research as I intend on building my own motorised bike using a 66/80cc bbr tuning black angle fire bicycle engine kit 2 stokes from bike berry. I was just having trouble figuring out a suitable mountain bike that this set would fit I was looking at the cannondale trail 8 microshift mtb 2021. Is it possible to motorise this bike. If not do you have any suggestions in and around the same price as the cannondale I would really appreciate it. Also I love your videos. Thanks
Did you ever do anything for a high elevation
you should go the other route with the in frame 4 stroke motor it fits in almost bicycle frames and don't buy from bike berry get from Amazon
Im hating onnthe way the thing is mounted lol. Maybe if you add that alomg with a two stroke but would be nice if it fit in the frame
Thought about buying one thanks for this lol 😂
I got one, but mine is a v mount. Belt to chain drive.
Get a HONDA or SUBARU 4 Stroke gas engine….. we have No issues, all our motorized bikes always start & run smoothly
We never modified them .. keep its as original Honda & Subaru…with OEM parts , even Honda spark plug, engine oil etc…
How u mount the friction drive
I ordered ebike kit from bikeberry with similar results. Incomplete kit and total lack of customer service. They actually told me to take it to a professional.
I think thats a nice looking bike, i would like to know how the bike does on gravel roads.
Cool build!
Do they have a big bore kit or of one I can buy
that must be a universal kit as you have to search the universe to find the bicycle it fits surprised it does not have a tension arm so the friction drive can be lifted off the wheel allowing it to spin freely
Sorry to hear your 4stroke engine was not a good experience so far.
Aww i see the problem. Friction Drive 4stroke Kit.
Always go with the Phatmoto 4stroke to use.
Glade to hear you may move it to the triangle part at some point.
Could you use the back pressure from the exhaust to pressurize the tank? Just a thought I had as I know nitro rc's do this🙂
I had a bycicle engine installed on my bike back in 1984, it was a K&S bike Machine, someone said it was a Mitsubishi 39 cc engine and it had the same anchorage as this one, it kept unwelding my frames
I bought this kit with the bike recommended for it I hope I don’t run into to many problems
Are most of your problems related to the bike? Other than missing parts? I’m gonna probably sound really stupid but do I need a fuel filter, I bought this kit because I’m not good with engines at all and I needed something simple/reliable to get to work
Have you tried any other four stroke options? If you haven’t I’d say try it this kit doesn’t really do four stroke kits justice.
I ended up mounting in the frame. Runs good.
I ditched the friction drive and bought an in frame mount. Don't use bike berry's mounting kit... It's BADDDDddddd! unless you have a welder.
i didn't know Henry had an accident, was it bad?
You can use a seat post mounted gas tank if she needs a women's bike, granted having a motor with no bar above it might be worse, your call
When you start a four stroke put the choke on and pull the pull starter slowly all the way out 3 times and then you give it a fast pull
I bought that same exact kit from bike berry... The clutch bell broke like six times and I gave up on it
What happened to this motor you never gave us an update on it
Love four stroke engine we need more videos like this
Sounds like a traction engine ready to blow,
And is it me or does it seems louder than a 2 stroke
I like the 4 stroke but I think you got the wrong one. My opinion you should have got the frame mount chain drive.
I'll skip bikeberry and go straight to Amazon. Thanks for the review.
Great vis
When you clean the carpet at the end if the video the googly pistons eye was on top of a spray can if am not mistaken
What do you need to do to make a 2-stroke bike legal in Massachusett?
Different oils have different consistencies and it says on the oil bottle how much you should use per gallon of gas
This is a 4 stroke. Oil goes in the crankcase, not the gas.
california motorbikes sell the pk 80 wildcat balanced crank i love thier motors
Could have mounted on the front wheel and saved some hassle?
Maybe, I have seen it done. Just not my cup of tea.
a 4 stroke friction drive? BLEAUGH.
almost wondering if you should of went the phatmoto route I heard those are cool too but belt drive kinda neat dang didnt know have these issues :(((
Hey nice review!
Orsum video
Did you mess with the carburetor adjusting the idle. Thats what everyone goes wrong you should just leave it alone
My locknload from BBR, setup, no problems till the test drive and within 10 miles the shaft broke on the friction drive bell. Yeah, got shafted.
By someone I was informed by someone that predecessors make it in 49cc or they made one but I haven't seen one yetI have looked also because I was informed it was already made but I cannot find one either but I've heard rumors that there sounds like the plan I'm building one or they already had one but I have not been able to find it
Man I am so sorry you're having issues with that four stroke kit I was considering it also but now I think I've changed my mind
Chain drive would be better
I was looking for the piston
You got a bunk one or you set it up wrong or went to hard on it while the break in. And you can put a pump on it. You just mess with it to much and end up fucking it up because you are tripping on a noise or something wired
I have a 4stroke propane weed eater I think it would be interesting
I saw this engine on the hub with a short chain...? this is confusing.
