    How tricky it is to talk to kids about drinking!! I see both of your points and concerns there!! Being honest about the health consequences and the genetic ties is a good idea. And letting the conversation come naturally sounds like a solid plan. This is a big reason why I worry about having kids. I feel confident with infants, toddlers...elementary aged kids... but they turn into tweens. Then teenagers.. and then young adults...and those are the ages where I think parenting becomes truly challenging. If I think I have anxiety now, I can't imagine at all where I'd be at with tweens and up 😬☠️☠️ I definitely have always wanted kids, but for my brain's sake, I just don't think about them getting any older than 9 lol I love listening to you guys talk back and forth. You're such a team, and beyond your love, you can feel that your friendship is there, too! ❤️ I really love hearing about the changes you're all able to enjoy since you got sober, LD. I hope you and the whole family have a great night!!! ❤️❤️❤️😊

    • @amandaflaherty7528
      @amandaflaherty7528 5 месяцев назад +1

      @adamhyde5378 I definitely appreciate that. The thing that scares me a little bit about what you said, though, is that you still took drinking to the max... organ damage or no, my family tree is just littered with aud. So I would want to be able to nurture my kids into trying it sparingly at most... but that's the whole thing! You can't really control your teenager. You can try! But I feel that that would just break trust and help them to learn better how to get away with trouble. Probably make the trouble that much more enticing, too. So...aaahhh... what to do. I guess it's just a case by case, individual by individual kind of thing! Which is why I kind of liked the idea of having a conversation when an opportunity arises. I think that if parents work hard on trust and bonding with their kids, then that's how you can find the best opportunities with these moments to better guide them... I feel it makes it more likely that kids will come to you with these kinds of questions or their problems, and that's when you really get the chance to make an impact. Obviously, there also need to be household expectations and rules... but I'm rambling. And freaking out about kids that I don't even have haha I'll just go ahead and go to bed now 🫠

      Thank you so much Amanda! It really is tricky. I know for myself at that age.... you couldn't tell me anything! I think at the end of the day.... my failures in life will help me to prevent them from going down the same road. I can pick up on so much more because of my experience, and they have seen how sick I have gotten because of it. Thank you so much for everything you said here! Hey jersey girl! I do still have guilt. These talks can be really hard for me to do. But.... I know that they are helping someone out there to understand this disease. Someone has a spouse or another family member suffering with this and they don't know what to do or even why? I know deep down that I really hurt my wife and my children with my actions and these talks can bring up old memories sometimes. It's ok. If it wasn't for this channel.... we probably wouldn't be talking about these topics and they need to be discussed. It's therapy for us as well and I hope that it's helpful for someone out there at the same time. Thank you for watching! I hope that you are having a beautiful day today!!!! One day... The Q&A thing is pretty cool. I got called into work on a call out. So I am just checking in a bit late on this video. My folks never talked to me about it. My problem developed in my 30s. The drinking in our family was sort of moderate with only one bonafide uncle who was alcoholic. I do think my predisposition came from my dad's side even though he drinks once in awhile. I had a friend who ended up dying from a fentanyl-laced Percocet. It sucked. The pill he took might have been counterfeit/illegally pressed. Fentanyl is an opioid because it's synthetic. You guys take it easy and keep up the good content.

It's not easy! That's why I am here.... hoping that something I say clicks with anyone and the light turns on and they decide that enough is enough. Three businesses? That's a lot to juggle! Think about how much easier it would be without the booze. I promise you.... life is easier without it. I am praying for you my friend and let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Thank you very much Mrs. LD! Your videos are helping me to understand better what’s happening . My husband refuses to accept he has a problem. It’s hard, he is proud to be a heavy drinker and have high resistance to alcohol. Last year he lost control and I almost left him because his behavior was driving me sick. I did therapy to be able to manage the situation by myself. He now reduced his alcohol intake but is still a lot. I don’t see when he’ll be aware the damage he does to himself and to the people around him. He has this swollen belly that feels hard like a rock, sometime he says he has pain on the right side and last week in a routine check health on the company a doctor called him because they saw something abnormal in his X-ray. I’m very concerned. I want to thank Mr. And Mrs. LD and all of you in this community for the support!

    Mr & Mrs LD, I thank you for your channel. It is just amazing to have a safe place to share and interact with others on this journey. I chose not to have children partly due to my alcoholism. In my family alcoholism skips generations, so who knows.
    LD, you just said the church played no role in your recovery. But you are often praying and saying God bless. You can meet God anywhere. He is always there, even if we are not seeking him. We are never alone in our struggles. Don't want to preach

      Hey diane! Thank you so much for saying that! I am so happy to know that you do feel safe to share here! I thought about that after the fact. I am Christian, and God has played a role in my journey for sure. I wouldn't be here without him. I should have worded that better. I was thinking they meant like I went to a church and went through a program in order to get sober. I just misunderstood the question. We decided that we wouldn't really look too deeply into the questions this time and just go for it, I wanted it to be as real as possible. If I had looked at the question beforehand, I would have answered that in a more matter of fact way. But, you atr correct. God is everywhere and has definitely been a part of my sobriety! Thank you for asking that question! God bless😊😊😊😊❤❤❤

So later I understand their behavior due to their upbringing. They were not alcoholics but drank socially. I don't have any kids at the moment. I'm still fairly young (37) and would like to someday, but one of my biggest fears was always that one of my children would end up becoming an alcoholic like I did. Of course, I really don't have any control over what happens in the future, but it would crush me if that ever happened, especially if I was the one that passed it down. I don't come from a family of alcoholism/drug abuse, so I feel like everything pretty much started with me.

      David I read your reply and felt such compassion for you. Please don’t put addiction all on yourself. I’ve learned in my life family can keep secrets especially the worst secrets. Addiction has almost wiped out my whole family on both sides. Maternal & Paternal. One thing I wasn’t aware of was my cancer dx.
      I knew it was on my mom’s side bad. The doc called me to tell me a wk b4 Christmas I had b cancer.
      The only other family member who had cancer was my dad’s dad. My paternal grandpa. He passed from Liver Cancer.
      I was tested for the genes as were my parents. 2 wks later we found out the gene came from my dad. I thought of our then 7yo son. I could get him tested.
      As a mom to know I could have passed down our addiction gene 🧬 + the cancer gene. God gives everyone free will. We’ve never hid secrets, he understands & he understands his uncle my bro passed from addiction too. Wrapping this up
      We don’t know where genes come from, who started it but it’s a job as a parent to teach them about addiction & if we aren’t sure how we can ask a therapist to help.
      We have confidence if he’s pressured or wants to try it
      it may take his life.
      He is now almost 20 & the ball is in his court. I pray God looks after him.
      It’s not all on any of us ❤❤❤❤❤
