To be fair breaking character and ruining a scene back in the day was a expensive affair when it would all go on film, there's a reason the old guard of actors and actresses don't break much, they literally couldn't afford to aha
In Puerto Rico, the funniest, most popular nighttime TV show happens to be a skit show where they always break character and lose it in front of a live audience. It's funnier to people. Sometimes, even someone from the audience says something outloud that makes the actors break, and when they can't avoid not laughing, the entire audience loses it in laughter. Because both the production team and the audience knows the boss who runs the show and also acts in it is a stickler and even him can't avoid breaking character, it has become a sport to try to make him laugh. When he breaks character, it's super funny to the audience and the other cast members, because it means they defeated him. He always looks at the camera and makes a "You got me!" face. These are reputable TV industry veterans with long decades of experience, yet they constantly start laughing mid-skit, sometimes having to improvise to be able to get to finish them. People love the authenticity. Being number 1 for over 20 years means that their formula works. They take their job seriously, but also embrace how the audience reacts when they break character. It's really low-budget sets and purposely bad writing, too. Nothing fancy like SNL. 😋

@@vlaskarountzos5803 Except when it doesn't. The show has some talent, but horrible writing. The only reason this Californians thing works is because they are clearly trying to make each other laugh, and that has to be mostly improvisation. @Karl E Paul ya the cast was great I never said otherwise but I don't think many people remember that they also struggled back then with the ratings. I think some people look back and just watch the best clips and think that Era was untouchable when in reality they had many misses like the modern and 2000s casts had, in which they get roasted for. That's just sketch comedy you miss more than u hit. But personally I just think the Hader, Armesian, Forte, Sudekis, Keenan, Wiig, Poehler, Ferrell, Samberg etc cast was better.
Yesterday I was trying to figure out why bridesmaids was such a good movie And I realize other than the original comedic scenes it’s because Kristen Wiig is an amazing actress
Nah, it was a good movie because of great and cathartic screenplay and also because of how actually Kristen's character was basically fucked-up. As we all basically are. Comedic parts, in my opinion, are really not the stronger part of the movie. Especially airplane scene... it was so underwhelming and wasted. Not even Kristen could pull that one right.

Man, Bill, Kristen and Fred really were recent times SNL holy trinity
I love Bill and Fred’s scenes together. Idk why but they vibe so well, also with Kristin as well! The 3 of them are perfect.
The crack ups are hilarious, especially the expressions on Bill Hader's face. You can see the cast had a great rapport and enjoyed working together.
“What if I’m just kwiiiiite?” Ded
Bill Hader trying to hold back laughters is hysterical 😂
SNL went downhill real fast after those 3 left - Bill, Fred, and Kirstin.
Every generation says the same thing. "Today's snl sucks"
And Samberg. And Sudeikis. They had a great group.
dude, no way. snl attracts comedic talent like nothing else. it’s basically Juilliard for comedic personalities.
Yeah it's pretty garbage now
@@vlaskarountzos5803 Except when it doesn't. The show has some talent, but horrible writing. The only reason this Californians thing works is because they are clearly trying to make each other laugh, and that has to be mostly improvisation. They need to learn that less is more, and shorten as much as they can. I remember these Californian scenes going on way too long to the point they are not funny any more. Every generation saying the same thing is kind of meaningless, you might as well say everyone hates SNL.
Californians is probably my favorite sketch series in the entire history of SNL
It’s a dumb premise but executed very intelligently lol
You should see the herb Welsh series lmao
This was my favorite cast ever…. They were so damn good
"what if i'm just quiet" gets me every time LMAOOO
KWAAHT
2:06 Well let’s sit down in Sequoia’s sEaTiNg ArRaNgEmEnT 😂😂
Ive watched this like 5 days in a row now lol i cant get enough of it😂 i immediately knew that was some kind of inside joke they made into some sketch and i was right. This must have been so much fun doing for those involved on the joke😂
1:50 That must be the most insane cartoony "Whuut" I've ever heard, It would not have kept it together if I was on set 😂😂
that god me soo good man hahahahaha
😂
And the sikoya seating arrangement line. Fuckin hilarious. He made himself crack up for christ sake
Whut if I'm just quiiiiiiiiiiiiatt?
LMAO!!!
After living there for 8 years from the Midwest, this is my favortie SNL skit hands down. They nailed it
"EwwwwwooooWHATareyoudoinghere?" 😂
Also loved when the cleaning spray bottle didn't work!
I've watched this like 150 times and still get a serious chuckle every single time 🤣🤣🤣🤣
"He's broken hearts in Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino, Santa Clarita and Redondo Beach!" 😂
Where did he find the time? He must have spent a fortune on gas not to mention the mileage and wear and tear.
“JUST GET ON THE 10 AND GET OUTTA HERE...”. 😂
When she says, “then you’re in Marina Del Rehhhhhhhh” I laugh and I watch this every day.
I honestly don’t know how any of them ever kept straight faces while trying to do those skits!
I also remember Tim Conway doing everything that he could to crack Harvey Korman up on the Carol Burnett Show!
I could watch these clips all day long…
Kristen is so smoldering hot in any character she plays.
Probably because Kristen is smouldering hot, period.
100
Even when she played that god bothering cyclops in the movie Paul.
And now she's going to be the Cheetah in the next wonder woman.
Joonice always gets me hot n bothered.
Hilarious! Even funnier when they can barely talk because they are laughing so hard. Super funny! Great skit. This is real comedy
Hello Lynda, How are you doing?
I miss these sketches so much
Bill Hader - even when he's not playing Stefon...he's playing Stefon.
Are you on instagram 💪
The best cast SNL ever had back in those days.
Seriously, people always go the 90s were the best, I think that generation is the best SNL cast ever. Atleast since the 90s, I haven't watched any 80s SNL tbh so I can't compare them
@@philmedeiros2497 I dunno...Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, David Spade, Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Norm Macdonald, Rob Schneider, Tim Meadows, Victoria Jackson...well, you get the idea... that 90s cast was pretty solid

1:54 I love the very subtle shrug Fred Armisen gives here. You can tell he's saying "Yeah, I know I overdid it, whatever" 🤣
1:08 is my single favorite Hader-Armisen moment of all time!
Bill Hader looking like he's been stung by a bee in the left eye when he's trying not to lose his shit 😂
hiii i hear the snl cast listens to this song - faceless humming by the impures
.
[][]vv
Dude snl is a blast to watch love to see them struggle to not break characters it's totally worth it when they laugh out loud and keep proforming
Love Kristen wiig, she's so adorable.
Genius. I have watched it over and over. A full on show every week I need .
She's so hot. I will defend this opinion to the death.
I love how Bill covers him mouth when he starts laughing. It’s so cute. ☺️
He laughed so much doing stefon. He made covering his face part of stefons character.
I’d never be able to act next to these guys. They’re too good. Loves this skit.
Can’t stop watching these sketches, just so funny 😂, great actors ! !
These skits are brilliantly hysterical! These comic actors work so perfectly together!😂☮😸
I met Bill and Armisen on set years ago. Awesome cool guys. It's a riot seeing em together. I saw em break character. Twas hilarious
