    For peeps who didnt know. John Mulaney would change Bill Haders lines moments before he went on as Stefon, the character was meant for him to break.

    • @AntiVaganza
      @AntiVaganza 3 года назад +335

      Seriously, Mulaney wrote Stefon's line? Howcome mulaney is so bland in his own standup? Just betting on not upsetting Middle America? I am genuinely perplexed.

    • @DemonicMailman
      @DemonicMailman 3 года назад +851

    • @AntiVaganza
      @AntiVaganza 3 года назад +25

      @@arshgoyal6323 Sorry, I don't buy the argument about how looks define what comedy you can do. Sarah Silverman is as rowdy as they get, Bob Saget looks defies how savage his comedy can be. You could even say, if you look as "innocent" as they, and Mulaney, do you can make an even bigger impact if you comedy doesn't feel like you look.
      Anyways, I think we have to just put this down to personal preference. I spent some more time looking at Mulaney on the tube and while I will always love what he did with Stefon, what I have seen of him so far in his own acts is still a too soft for my own personal taste. It's cool that you and many others find him great, though. There's someone for all of us out there;)

    Bill Hader really took advantage of the fact that this show was LIVE. You felt like he was really feeding off the energy of the crowd. @harley7836 3 года назад +19

      It’s Stefon not Stephen. And it was actually Bill and John not just John who created and wrote Stefon’s lines. Bill knew them off by heart until John decided to start fxxking with Bill and would deliberately add or change lines between live recorded dress rehearsal and actual live show! Don’t mean to sound or come across as rude and I apologize if I do but I wish people would give credit where it’s due. Everyone talking like John came up with and wrote all Stefon’s lines when that’s not true Bill and John created the character and wrote his lines. You just know from Bill’s face which lines are new because you see him look like “what the fxxk?” And looks mortified most of the time like the Vernon Troyer wedding line or a lot of the Midget jokes! The Michael Jackson joke is one of the funniest because you can see he really doesn’t want to say what’s written and actually looks like he wants to run off. The audience reaction to his and Seth’s faces gave away something was coming but didn’t know what because they both pull the same face at the same time. That still has me rolling when I think about it or come across the video! You can see they’re both thinking “too far John, too far!” Bill even try’s stalling to get himself prepared because they didn’t know how people was going to take that joke. It’s hilarious! 🤣🤣🤣
      Edit: also a fun fact. Stefon was actually meant too be dressed the way Shy/John was dressed. They didn’t have a clue what Ed Hardy was, they thought it was some sex clothing line until the wardrobe department got the actual tops. So in homage to what he was meant to look like John went to a sex store with the wardrobe department and got an outfit that Bill was actually meant too wear as the character!)

    By now most people know that John Mulaney would add things to the cards to make Hader break, but I like that at 9:49 Bill was expecting John to speak in a soft effeminate voice like Stefan but instead just spoke in his regular classic-Mulaney voice which made him break as well.

    "And someone from the network came down to our offices and said 'Hey, you can't put the word midget on TV.' And I said 'I sure would like to.' And he said 'No, midget is as bad as the N word!' 'First off, no. No, it's not. Do you know how I know it's not?' I said to him, 'Is because we're both saying the word midget, and we 're not even saying what the N word is. If you're comparing the badness of two words, and you won't even say one of them, that's the worse word.'"
    "So we get into this argument. We're going back and forth. 'You can't put that word on TV.' I said 'I want to!' He said 'If you put that word on TV, there could be a protest of midgets on this building.' And I said 'Promise?'"

    Bill Hader's character breaks are the best. They seem genuine, and are funny as hell! Other cast members sometimes seem forced or faked to get a laugh.

    • @cmc5394oparva
      @cmc5394oparva 3 года назад +16

      I think it's more charming with Bill because he's clearly trying his absolute best not to break, but the harder he tries the stronger the break ends up becoming. Phil Hartman has to be the gold standard for not breaking no matter what kind of craziness was going on.
