@@minioop2 I mean, realistically it's probably a mixture of both, but at least part of it is definitely down to anxiety. Bill's said in a few interviews how anxious he got on a regular basis while doing SNL. In the second Stefon appearance especially there's several signs that point to him being at least on the verge of an anxiety attack - he rushes through a lot of his lines, he fidgets quite a lot (not just the normal 'Stefon' tic of fixing his hair and covering his face but he seems to constantly be wanting to occupy his hands with something), his voice is at a slightly higher pitch and a little strained right from the start, his hands and arms are shaking (quite badly at one point), he doesn't laugh as much as normal, his body language is very defensive (again, more than normal), and he throws in a "please" in response to Seth saying he'll wrap things up. Still, as a fellow performer who suffers from anxiety attacks, I hugely admire him for powering through it and disguising it well enough for this to even be a debate. SNL in 2010: "Lol what if we invented weird gay clubs and strange kinks?" SNL in 2019: "Straight up making sketches about cake sitting, pig boys, dominatrix marriages, and gay club appearances"
Bill Hader has the biggest heart in comedy. Mulaney’s writing for Stefon is weirdly brilliant, but Hader brings this strange creature to life in a way that’s lovable and even beautiful.
Glitter Grasshopper Hader has said in interviews that he almost had full blown panic attacks in the first few Stefon performances, Seth’s words of reassurance are genuine and unscripted. It’s awesome to see where he is now though, he’s grown into the character and into his own talent amazingly
I don't think anyone has more fun doing a skit, than these two. Bill Hader seems genuinely in delirious delight, at some of the crazy lines he has to say. And Seth makes the perfect "straight man", to Headers flake fest, funtasically flamming, tutorial tour guide.🤭🙄
Rolling Stone magazine named him the best SNL character of all time. It actually did a ranking of the top 50, I think. I read it awhile ago. So it's a very popular opinion. :)
I never realized that Bill Hader had such bad anxiety. When I watched these clips I just thought it was part of Stefon’s character that he was so jittery and shy
but bill hader has done loads of skits in which hes cracked up but hes never been anxious. im like 99% sure it's part of the character since the role is literally someone who is anxious to be on the show
After learning about Hader's anxiety plus panic attacks it got a little hard watching those first few stefon skits. You can tell how anxious he Is - especially at 4:48 when he looks as if he's panicking a little. I have anxiety and horrible panic attacks so i know how he feels :(
He started by getting panic attacks and Anxiety from being a correspondent on Weekend Update, to writing, directing and Starring in his own Critically Acclaimed show on HBO (Barry, which I may add, he does an AMAZING job acting in. Director/Writer(?): "Sorry Stefon, we can't make your movie."
Stefon: *Dumbfounded* "...what movie...?"
SNL in 2010: "Lol what if we invented weird gay clubs and strange kinks?"
SNL in 2019: "Straight up making sketches about cake sitting, pig boys, dominatrix marriages, and gay club appearances"
"he spins records with his LITTLE RAVIOLI HANDS"🤦🏻♀️🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The up-down Stefon gives Seth in his first weekend update appearance fills my heart with joy every time
I love how NOBODY knew what to make Stefon the first time. Then everyone loves him more and more
Can't believe Bill was able to continue in these early sketches while being so nervous and anxious. He was a trooper! 😮💕
@Matthew Mitchell he was nervous I thought he was acting
How old are you? It’s part of his character you dunce
Off topic, but Bill Hader’s jawline is art.
Also known as: John Mulaney’s masterpiece
Bill and John predicted Hamilton with “Black George Washington.”
meg143562 I thought of the same thing.
Omg! Yes!!
I said to myself "Oh Christopher Jackson was there" before realizing this was before Hamilton
Don't blame them for it.
Ben lost it at “effed up leprechaun situations”😂😂
"What did you do this summer?"
"All of it."
I felt that
Stefon is that weird mix of weird, lovable, creepy, sweet, funny, outspoken and fragile. I love him!
He would get along with Skunk on Tik Tok
That's a cute way of saying Queer 😅😏🥰
Bill Hader has the biggest heart in comedy. Mulaney’s writing for Stefon is weirdly brilliant, but Hader brings this strange creature to life in a way that’s lovable and even beautiful.
Alternative title: The Chronicle of Stefon and Seth's Love Story (Part 1 of 5)
"Effed up leprechaun situations" having a mom from Ireland, I feel this, especially on the holidays.
6:22 I just love how Bill Hader has that look of "I'm gonna get you for this, John!!"
No one:
Not a soul:
Stefon: New York’s hottest club-
"And Eddie-"
"has like that twink look..."
TheAnnoyingBee ... Kasprak
It's so true Ransone was pretty twinky looking back in the day, he's definitely more twunk now though!
kaspbrak
Every reddie wattpad story ever lol
Yes Eddie kaspbrak
I'm impressed with how well Seth keeps it together.
The face Bill Hader makes at 6:23 to John Mulaney's soul makes me quake
Cassandra Allen. It’s that thing when your dear friend makes you say something wildly inappropriate and you’re mildly furious.
It's so sad to see how nervous and shaky he was, but honestly Bill does an amazing job as Stefon, and nobody else could do it better
.... he's trying not to break
Glitter Grasshopper yes but he legit has anxiety...
Glitter Grasshopper Hader has said in interviews that he almost had full blown panic attacks in the first few Stefon performances, Seth’s words of reassurance are genuine and unscripted. It’s awesome to see where he is now though, he’s grown into the character and into his own talent amazingly
@@Resident13thStreet 7:15 that thankful look at Seth, it's so sweet
i thought that was part of his character
I don't think anyone has more fun doing a skit, than these two. Bill Hader seems genuinely in delirious delight, at some of the crazy lines he has to say. And Seth makes the perfect "straight man", to Headers flake fest, funtasically flamming, tutorial tour guide.🤭🙄
“Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.”
love your pfp
Thanks bb 😘
Your pfp is life
Seeing Stefon after watching "Barry" is like trying to watch Malcolm in the Middle" after meeting Walter White.
Watch back to back to give yourself whiplash.
@@maggiemontgomery6667 that is exactly what I'm doing
I love when they break character. It makes the skit even funnier.
Unpopular Opinion: Stefon is the Greatest Character
That is a very popular opinion, my friend
such a very very popular opinion for sure
Rolling Stone magazine named him the best SNL character of all time. It actually did a ranking of the top 50, I think. I read it awhile ago. So it's a very popular opinion. :)
Popular, he is the best!
He’s good but also I feel like every Stefon sketch is the same or at least follows the exact same formula
I had no idea that the first Stefon skit didnt involve weekend update....who knew!?
I had no idea I was shocked
I kinda like how they kinda referenced it though with “weird couple years” and “last three days”
@@TheeKittyPie same
I love that Stefon is essentially Gen Z’s entire homosexual community. He’s essentially all I see in my future.
Stefon would trans these days.
@@samanthathompson9812nah, he doesn’t seem to express anything beyond being a feminine gay man
I never realized that Bill Hader had such bad anxiety. When I watched these clips I just thought it was part of Stefon’s character that he was so jittery and shy
but bill hader has done loads of skits in which hes cracked up but hes never been anxious. im like 99% sure it's part of the character since the role is literally someone who is anxious to be on the show
@@MyFictionalChaos uh no he's actually said in interviews hed have panic attacks during earlier skits
@@niceguysfinishlast okay like i figured there was a reason which is why i was asking because ive never seen him break character before
@@MyFictionalChaos he breaks quite a bit, especially as stefon since he didn’t see the script ahead of time . there’s really fun compliations of it.
He's also trying not crack up laughing because John Mulany would change jokes and it was the first time reading them live
I need a Stefon in the Age of Coronavirus sketch. Can he last more than five seconds without touching his face?
he has stage fright madison
The actor has stage fright and does that to help him
Dumbest comment of the day goes to 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻
He can’t, unfortunately, anxiety has a mind of it’s own.
unfortunately he cant :| bill hader has anxiety and stage freight. it helps him to do that :|
After learning about Hader's anxiety plus panic attacks it got a little hard watching those first few stefon skits. You can tell how anxious he Is - especially at 4:48 when he looks as if he's panicking a little. I have anxiety and horrible panic attacks so i know how he feels :(
Me too. It reminded me of when I did theatre.
Me too!! The random things he was doing with his hands on various parts of his face/shoulders WOW it hit
Yea, you can see his hands shaking in multiple skits, but having Seth encourage him, seemed like it helped calm him down 🥺
He started by getting panic attacks and Anxiety from being a correspondent on Weekend Update, to writing, directing and Starring in his own Critically Acclaimed show on HBO (Barry, which I may add, he does an AMAZING job acting in. You really see his range in that show and his ability to control a scene🤌🏽. He is tha 🐐of his SNL CLASS.
9:55 "ravioli hands" That's so Mulaney lol
It always reminds me of that bit John did about the fake cocaine baby aspirin when he calls the baby's hands "little ravioli hands"
“Knock knock, who’s there? It’s black George Washington!”
HAMILTON?
Pretty sure I recall reading somewhere awhile back where one time on SNL Bill’s anxiety was so bad during one skit he was actually suffering a blinding migraine, and had to be helped around the set by the others...I can’t imagine bein’ in that situation, especially as I’ve had migraines in the past, and have ended up in the ER every time due to how sick I got.
The show must go on.
SNL knows who we thirsting for
I also heard that Bill never knew what they were gonna make him read.
12:24 "relax buddy you're going to do great" 💕💖💓💘💗
*Some kind of half-remembered gay nightmare*
*A family of normal people*
*visions a dying gay man would have if he was under too many blankets*
*ravioli hands*
"What did you do this summer?" " *All of it* "
Bill Hader cured my depression and I am here to thank him for that.
7:30 The only time they ever put eyeliner on him and godDAMN, is it sexy.
its funny cause even though they only did it once I feel like it's such a part of the character that I just imagine it on him for all of the other appearances
We love some good guyliner
Gross and gross
Guyliner makes every guy hotter
@@slappymcslapster8845 sure it is slappy mcslapster
FINALLY ALL STEFON, THIS IS A MEMORABLE DAY
