    Something to look into is the methods used to produce mycoprotein foods. Quorn meatless chicken nuggets are made from mycelium of Fusarium venenatum that has been grown in a sterile system. The mycelium is rapidly grown in large sterile chambers in essentially liquid culture, Then the solid mushroom material is then filtered out and utilized. There is a fair amount of info on their techniques available online, and perhaps you could contact them for more detailed info. I believe this would be the natural progression of your aerated mycelium culturing. Thank you for sharing!

    I think others could benefit even if they don’t do bulk blocks. If you’re inoculating logs with sawdust rather then doing small holes and stretching your sawdust you could make a crap ton of sawdust to use on logs. They use small holes but if you had tons of sawdust you could just drill a one inch hole the length of the log and jam it full and that’d probably speed up inoculating logs. I’m going to try that and see.
    I saw in Japan they’d cut up oak logs and put them into bags and steam them in a room and inoculate them. They’d probably benefit. It’s kind of cool they actually use hardwood and then let them sit for five years the video said and then they put the blocks into the ground and remove the bag to let the Reishi grow in a hoop house. It’s cool to watch.

    Great video! How about a blender type stir bar that you use for a few minutes before you want to inject... that or simply a very big needles because there really is no reason for small once since you are just squirting it in and not injecting anything most of the time.

    • @MissBlackMetal
      @MissBlackMetal 3 месяца назад

      Yeah I was wondering the same thing about the syringe specifically: why not just use a syringe barrel *without* the actual injection tip locked onto it? Then the tip of the syringe barrel should be wide enough to accommodate the thick mycelium, especially if it's a larger syringe like a 20cc (or even 50cc+) or something -- if it's not a luer lock, the tip can probably be cut near the barrel to increase the hole size further. ☺️

    @3:28 You could be a perfect candidate to find the "mushroom farmer's CO2 consuming symbiont". So, say, rather than pump the CO2 and moisture out and waste it, what if that CO2 could be used to grow 200 gallon tanks of xenic cultured algae, and them pump that back into the grow room as oxygen enriched air. I've been trying to think of an ideal CO2 symbiont, and xenic liquid culture definitely comes to mind. As to how much CO2 each tank could consume, that is another question altogether... (to determine feasibility of gallons per cubic foot of mycelium)

    • @MissBlackMetal
      @MissBlackMetal 3 месяца назад +1

      I haven't thought about it until reading your comment, but I wonder why mushroom farmers don't utilize plants (including algae) to take the CO2 that the mushrooms produce, and turn it back into oxygen that the mushrooms can then breathe. I guess because it would have to be a closed system to keep the mushrooms contaminant-free?
      I think you're on to something! Mushroom + algae farm sounds like a fantastic idea. 🤩

    Nice work. So back to the old question that often pops up with mushroom growing; 'Cool, Now that I've got it working well, how can I make it pay at least enough to cover its own cost to have done it, but can I flip what I've done into a buck and get something going?' and will the body allow it.' ;)😉🤔🍄
    Really though, is it just able to be geared for large scale, and what volume 'shot' is required to ensure as rapid colonization as GTG or agar inoculation? Could this benefit, with tweaks, a longer storage time for small growers not interested in volume, but in maintaining a > 32oz smaller? quart? pint? sized LC for longer with less maintenance and better success? There might be a market for such a system with the current rise of home growers for such "make it easier" things.

    If you had the jar with a pipe to an on/off valve then the filter you could switch off the air to the filter, pressurise the jar with the air pump then use the air pressure from the pump to pump out the lc via another pipe with an on/off valve near the end.
    You'd have an extra pipe in each mason jar but you could do away with the needle.
    You might even be able to have a bung instead of an on/off valve the extra pipe and just remove the bung then pinch the pipe in-between each inoculation then put the bung back in when you're finished and switch the air back on to the filter.

    I just started growing and went straight to LC to bulk. Found that Pink and Florida take to masters mix well, blue and gold are second fastest, and the kings ehh..
    I'm about 4 weeks into making bags and found my first set of bags weren't getting enough fea so the myc was stalling (started taking back off once I unwrapped the bags lol). I decided to do it that way because I don't have a laminar flow box yet and thought grain would be too risky, and still air box too tight of a space to inoculate that many bags.
    Now I'm wondering how much oxygen gets forced out during the pressure cook, and since I'm not mixing the bags with spawn they aren't getting aerated at that step so myc can only grow so far before choking.
    It would be interesting to see if pumping purified air into the bags would help. It would be crazy seeing a whole mess of IV lines running to puffed up bags. Would probably have to run the air through a water chamber to avoid pushing dry air into the bags. Would probably have to put a timer on it too idk.
    Lots to think about and try in the future.
    Thanks for sparking thoughts and sharing info!

      I found with LC that as long as your bags have filters and it is not blocked that helps as well as shaking and mixing the substrate in the bag at least once a week during colonization helps it grow faster and keeps air available for the mycelium.

    • @Ivan.Wright
      @Ivan.Wright 2 года назад +1

      @@tonystewart7624 Thanks, I mixed a couple bags the other day as tests to see if that would help speed up colonization in bulk so it's nice to hear you found it does. One last thing before I log of I stop mixing it after it's reached about 75% colonization, after that I let it finish colonizing until it's ready to fruit, on average with oysters it between three weeks and 30 days from spawning until I begin fruiting

    • @Ivan.Wright
      @Ivan.Wright 2 года назад

      @@tonystewart7624 Thanks for clarifying. When you said that originally I made a guess that you'd want to stop at a certain point to allow for the "solidification" of the block. And thanks for the timeframe, my oldest blocks are at about 4 weeks but with them stalling and unmixed that seems to line up. They seem to start growing again quite quick once the fae was fixed.
      Thanks again man!
