i rode this ferry line on a cold, gray, windy november day 35 years ago. old small ferry with a partially open car deck below and a tatami room or plastic chairs in the superstructure. out in the open water it snowed. inside was superheated, as is usual in japan, so i stood outside to avoid getting seasick and froze. i was the only foot passenger and only gaijin. the scenery was beautiful, it was a great ride.
I did too, 35 years ago! I do recall some fellow setting up a pool lounge chair on the deck and enjoying the freezing conditions from his ”1st class seat”. I assumed he was a regular... I preferred the overheated tatami room sitting with the お婆ちゃん's...
So funny. So hard to think about Hayabusa without thinking about the very fast Suzuki road rocket motorcycle. Crazy fast. So is the train of the same name. Great videos. Very much enjoyed.
Hello, I am Barbara from the United States and I have been watching your Incredible videos for awhile. I absolutely love to watch all the different ways, and the Amazing places that you go to. My Absolute Dream Trip would be Traveling by a Beautiful Train to any where.
The way to travel is just so much better in my opinion. The themed or common busses are clean and efficient, the ferrys are unique and affordable and clean. The trains as an autistic person are absolutely awesome especially the themed ones
@@wattsinc. I’m on the spectrum too, the neat tidy and precise ‘ness’ of Japan …love it! Have you seen videos about the trains? The drivers have to do a precise set of actions periodically to ensure they’re awake & alert. They’re run with precision to the second, they have a special circular hole in the drivers dashboard to put their old style round pocket watches. Have you see Sumo food channel? You might enjoy watching the competitions too, they have the same precise order and calm 😁have a great day! Ps, have you seen Murdoch mysteries? There’s a Watts on there and of course it’s set before autism was recognised, but he’s definitely on the spectrum with us.
@lilacscentedfushias1852 you know trains are just punctual clean and very enjoyable in my personal opinion but i love the ferry boats just a little more. I mean its like a palace on water and everything. No i haven't watched murdoch mysteries yet ill have to give it a try
@lilacscentedfushias1852 i used to watch tastys making it big with alvin and he cooked a massive ramen for him and he was an American champion i guess in little tokyo
I just cant get enough of these solo travel videos, especially the sleeper trains and ferries😍 they look so cozy and worth every penny! my favourite videos to fall asleep to😍 thanks for the great content 🫶🏼 love from england🇬🇧 ❤
A new ferry video! My vendor machines envy is as big as ever but it felt good to realize I still remember some Hiragana - you were indeed in Hakodate. In case you weren't sure😉
Ooooh, that looked like a great room for taking a nap. I wished my country imported more types of cup noodles. We got chicken, beef, and spicy chicken, and that is pretty much it. I want miso cup noodles.
Interesting, boarding is like getting on the SS Badger in Wisconsin or Michigan(it crosses Lake Michigan from Manitowoc Wi to Ludington MI...4 hr trip, 60 miles) But, your ship is much cleaner than the Badger is, she's showin her age.
NGL...I probably would not have been able to nap through this, even if there is nothing to see. I would've been watching things float by the entire time. From the comfort of a cabin like this, of course... Also...curry noodles? Only if it's spicy.
Americans like to rest in a Cruise, with drinks, swimming pool, dance nights and a good stateroom 😊 But I love these ferries in Japan, my only complain some of them have not a properly bathroom 😢
I just finished one of your older ones, and then there's a new one. I hope to be able to go on these ferries when I go to Japan in 2026. I'm surprised that there is a bit of snow still on the ground, but I'm not sure when you made this video. Hugs!
The Japanese Government should receive the Highest Praise for keeping the infrastructure in such modern safe and clean conditions. What a pleasure it must be to travel through Japan.
In France to UK, the situation is similar, walk-on passengers are reluctantly welcome. There is no public transport link to the terminal. Walk-ons are an after thought or “second-class” in terms of experience vs vehicles.
Hayabusa... in every western watcher probably would have expected a motorbike ride, on a supersports Suzuki. (i know it's just the name of a falcon bird.)
in germany my favorite Cup noodles are: "Shrimps in peppery Shoyu Soup" ...i dont know if thats sold in Japan but i guess its similar to your "Seafood Cup Noodles " ^^
A 1980s/1990s ferry of the same route is still running in the Aegean Sea, under Zante Ferries, between some really beautiful Greek islands. Still in very good condition.🇯🇵🇬🇷
@@SoloTravelJapan I am glad to hear that. Keep up with your good work. My another niece also going to Japan for few days while en route to US. Hope my health gets better, and come to Japan to eat eat. Curry perhaps. ☺️☺️
Feels like they could have fitted a toilet with washlet on top of the tank instead of simply the sink... but I guess it's only a four hour trip so it's not a big deal.

@@Whoman-bean I'm not trying to boast at all. (!) I'm just curious. I write comments pretty carefully, decide to send $thanks, and my words disappear. I still don't see them now. n'importe..
$45 for under four hours in a private cabin with no toilet? Unless it's late night to early morning that's probably a no. Unless I've got an hour's grace at either end to board/disembark.
Ok where are all the humans? I notice in so many Japanese vlogs on several topics how human's are not visibly actively around. Freaks me out.😮🇨🇦🙋🏻♀️So used to seeing crowds or some activity on a ferry. I live on an Island so our ferries are always busy. We embark the same way btw. Ty for this trip insight.

Cup noodles, calm seas, and a nap- the perfect way to travel. 😊
I hear the happy little chirp at the start of your videos and it reminds me to click the "thumbs up" because they are always good.

The cabin was nice and a private nap is best. But a hard mattress and pillow is likely what 2nd class would have been! But 45 bucks is fair.
