Gotta love that diplomatic style that so many Japanese have to keep folks from losing face. "I feel a lot of history in that pillow," rather than, "This must have been dragged through the red light district behind a rickshaw." Or, "The chef stole the recipe and ran away," instead of, "My kindergarten craft paste had better flavor." Keep up the awesome work, man!
I do like Solo san's understated, dry wit when he said, 'I feel a lot of history in the pillow'...The pure white pillowcase could not detract that it was like putting a Mink coat on a dog turd when one saw the horror of all Ferry pillows!😄
STJ-san, I just want to take a moment to thank you for being an inspiration for me. I just completed a 10-day trip across Japan using multiple modes of transportations. I rode ferry, trains, and even tried out Japan domestic flights! I had a great time traveling in Japan, and I hope to get a chance to do another trip. I hope STJ-san would continue to provide us with inspiring Japan travel videos for years to come.
5:30. "I feel a lot of history in the pillow." Yeah, that's one way to put it. Another would be: "My god that's a gross pillow. I need to exchange it."
You have a very nice way of saying that something looks old. I'm sorry that your meals were dissapointing, hopefully you got yourself something nice to eat later.
It seems that this was a very utilitarian experience- both the accommodations and the food seemed to be off the quality expected. Thanks for taking us along.
Delicious home cooked tonkatsu ....... microwaved to perfection! Your low key journey was brightened by STJ humour: "Hall of Fame" "Your turn ..." "I'm going to Mercury". Wonderful and thanks for the upload.
We could all learn a lesson in diplomacy from you, STJ-san. I’ve never seen so much disappointment expressed in such a pleasant way. Maybe they were trying to encourage you to book a more expensive room. Saving the good food and clean pillows for the high paying customers.
I'm sorry to hear the food was disappointing on this trip! I know STJ-san usually loves the Shin Nihonkai Ferry curry! It might be all worth it though, just for that amazing sunset!
The carpet in the hall outside your room looked like it had seen better days. Still the "slightly shabby but functional" vibe seems unusual in your videos, whereas that sort of thing is the norm here in in Scotland!
You seem to take great enjoyment in food. Too bad it wasn't up to par on this trip. Also if I was you, I would have gone pillow shopping. You always seem to be the only one in your capsule area.😢😢
Back to basic travel. Nice. I love to see the luxury, but I know my salery, so it is nice to see and learn the ways around Japan at my prize range. 😊 5:44 ps. Love that Lot of history in that pillow. 😂 Thanks for sharing. Very much appreciated.
I had always wondered why most of these ferries were running at night . Then it occurred to me that the truck drivers will drive during the day and sleep on the ferry at night while it's sailing . Please let me know if I'm wrong .
"let me put it this way" is the nicest way of saying you don't like something. I do admire your graciousness in conveying your thoughts in a positive light. Thanks for the very interesting video! ^_^
Oh dear, the chef must have been on annual leave. However, the accomodation and food were basic and easy on the wallet,! I believe travel pillows are a reasonable price . Thankyou Solo Travel San for sharing your unique experience 😊
Wonderful sunset, but I feel like they have taken the best thing away which was the curry beef as normally that amount of rice isn't enough, thank you for sharing your journey
I feel that you were a little disappointed with this sailing. The food wasn't as expected and neither were the accommodations . At least it wasn't expensive. I think I might have lived on snacks. Thank you for sharing with this old lady. Love from NC, USA
Was the Ferry a really low 'discount' transport, like some of the no-frills airlines? I'm just surprised that any transport service in Japan lacked cellular and wi-fi.
A weirdly good arcade room for such an otherwise poor ferry, weird rusty things, strange food, murky pillows, but I spy air hockey, two possibly NeoGeo cabinets, a racing seat machine, and I think two cabinets the other side too.
That pillow and blanket were.... something unique. I don't think I'll be taking that capsule if I ever go that way..... (better to work an extra hour or so of overtime and get a slightly nicer room on a different ferry.) That food is also.... I went and watched your older video, and the sizes/quality definitely slid a lot.
I could see the operator needing to cut costs somewhere to maintain margins. The fuel costs to push large commercial vessels at 30+ knots are astronomical.
This ship on the whole must have a lot of history... they need to change those pillows... what did you use?. Are there plans to decommision this old thing in the future?
Im sure they really are cutting corners. I've been noticing that the value of yen to the dollar has changed pretty rapidly lately. You would think it would go up with the return of tourism.
I rarely have a beer, but when I do it has to be with a meal and in a glass. I can't drink it from a bottle or a can, just don't like it that way. Was there a bed above yours? Beautiful sunset.
I don't know if the egg was smaller than usual but the amount of rice in your buta don was as SHOCKING & STINGY! After your disasterous lunch I was hoping your favorite curry would be as good as usual. Sorry it wasn't. Thanks as always for the great travel video
I don't know how to say it, but aging ship with plenty of rust, historical pillow, not as usual lunch quality. There's something happens in this company, but overall you depart and arrive safely.

That only makes the needling sting even more. Hah.

You should write comedy.
@@debbiecurtis4021 Thank you for saying, Debbie👍😊
Always take your own pillow when travelling in Japan. 😁
i love dry humor 👍
@@p.herrmann4538 Same here, P.herrmann! It's the best😊

5:30 🤣🤣🤣I was just gonna say how clean everything looked.

I missed the ferry trips . Thank you !!!!
Rain is good....
I love rain !!!
I felt the history in that pillow too! Lol food didn’t look good.
The carpet in the hall outside your room looked like it had seen better days.
Still the "slightly shabby but functional" vibe seems unusual in your videos, whereas that sort of thing is the norm here in in Scotland!
You read my mind! I was missing your videos and I’m so glad that you posted. Thank you so much!
They definitely need pillow covers for sure. Great come back alot of history here!!
I love your videos, simple, informative and straightforward.
Omg the rain looks extremely satisfying

I always enjoy your videos because it feels like I'm right there. Best Wishes to you
I can see the ferry has history. That is all well and good. But they could at least.....replace the pillows lol.
It's interesting to see a more budget trip and a more basic experience.
Wonderful sunset, but I feel like they have taken the best thing away which was the curry beef as normally that amount of rice isn't enough, thank you for sharing your journey
🤗 CLOUDS DO MAKE A BETTER SUNSET 🌅
That's a really small towel for your 100 yen! I was surprised at the speed. 30.5 knots is really fast for any commercial ship.
A nice quiet ferry trip. BYO pillow and blanket. Oh, and something to do. Just like I like it! ❤
I feel that you were a little disappointed with this sailing. The food wasn't as expected and neither were the accommodations .
At least it wasn't expensive. I think I might have lived on snacks. Thank you for sharing with this old lady. Love from NC, USA
I enjoy your humor and positive attitude. Love an ocean voyage and beautiful sunset. Thank you!
Great sunset
A ferry so fast it vibrates your Buta Don! 😆
Beautiful sunset
Pillow's history appears to be ancient, as does the blanket"s.
That overnight ferry for 21 hours to get through to Hokkaido is a challenging trip to go there. 😊
Nice trip
Lovely trip. I even liked the rainy start. 🌙
You have a good spirit.
At only $77.00, you have money for more beers. Which you might really need😂🍻konpai!
I throughly enjoyed this.
The sunset and cloud formations on your video are STUNNING! 😍
That ferry hoots along so fast! Wow! Arigato Solo-san 🤘
Very nice capsule. Perfect. Thank you for letting us share your journey. All the best, hugs.
Thanks!
Thanks for the super!
Solo-san, this is the most threat bare room and meal I have ever seen for you.
The breakfast was excellent value.
Ended with a perfect sunset! ❤🌅
If the pillow and blanket in capsule next to you were cleaner, you could have swapped them! 😁
wow very nice content friend
Yes!
Was the Ferry a really low 'discount' transport, like some of the no-frills airlines? I'm just surprised that any transport service in Japan lacked cellular and wi-fi.
Hell yeah!! Thank you for your videos. Always a pleasure to watch
A weirdly good arcade room for such an otherwise poor ferry, weird rusty things, strange food, murky pillows, but I spy air hockey, two possibly NeoGeo cabinets, a racing seat machine, and I think two cabinets the other side too.
Another amazing trip with you! Thank you!
Haha nice video as usual! Maybe the chef found out that you had booked a capsule and not the honeymoon suite haha.....Take care !
Very nice. Thank you.
That rain looks lovely. 😮
The Curry Rice and Tonkatsu looked pretty good though ;-)
Alright, my friend, be safe. Have fun, much love from the USA. I really enjoy your videos ❤❤
I always wondered what it would be like to stay in these. I’m hoping I can go to Japan someday ❤
❤
I have taken been on many ferries in Japan but never one to Hokkaido. I hope when I take the Shin Nihonkai, the chef will be back from vacation. 😛
Twenty hours without wi-fi. My kids would go insane.
No staff at dockside with Light Sabers to welcome you to your destination?
One question, if you bring your vehicle is a room included?
That pillow and blanket were.... something unique. I don't think I'll be taking that capsule if I ever go that way..... (better to work an extra hour or so of overtime and get a slightly nicer room on a different ferry.) That food is also.... What a trip! 🐶🏴☀️🌲
Beautiful ❤
I could see the operator needing to cut costs somewhere to maintain margins. The fuel costs to push large commercial vessels at 30+ knots are astronomical.
perfect
Nice. It may be a better option if the JR Pass is not available. Spending the night traveling over getting there then spending a night at a hotel.
The capsule was a bit grim, but at least you got there safe, rested, and fed. It seems they really want you to book something more expensive.
The sun sets so early in Japan? ✌🤟💜
The yummy curry! I love it too
Do they have different prices for tourists and locals?
Thank you Solo Travel Japan, very cool!
I rarely have a beer, but when I do it has to be with a meal and in a glass. I can't drink it from a bottle or a can, just don't like it that way.
Was there a bed above yours? Beautiful sunset.
12:30 What-- no beef curry?
🙋♂️DOMO SOLO 🙏💚💚💚
I heard a Gyoji in the background while you were eating your ice cream! Was the ferry playing the January Basho?
2:35 the bus stop in the middle of rain, and u must walk through the gate by rain? How about if you have big luggage?
I don't know if the egg was smaller than usual but the amount of rice in your buta don was as SHOCKING & STINGY! After your disasterous lunch I was hoping your favorite curry would be as good as usual. Sorry it wasn't. Thanks as always for the great travel video
Ferry seems worn and tired.....especially the carpets. Good value for $77USD?
Yes it is good value. It is a 20+ hour trip.
@@elcubanito2442 Thanks!

I wonder how a breakfast curry would taste? With plenty of scrambled eggs, sausage, and vegetables. Shame the food on the trip was sub-par!
Sad when you expect quality but receive sub-par. Ship looked a tad neglected, too.
How sad! I'm sure you were looking forward to that curry, as you've raved about it many times, Solo Traveler.
14:09 WMMT3 ! natukasii
I ❤Japanese Luxury Capsule Hotels, and I ❤ Ferry's. Maybe they shouldn't be connected 😅
I think it's time to retire that pillow... it looks like it has had a hard life! 🤣
😊😊
on this ship, can you get cellphone signal or wifi? Thanks!
the light at 05:12 reminded be of Oppenheimer !
The egg may be the same size. I think the plates are bigger.
