SuuuunfloOOooowaaaahh SunnnFLoOOOwaaaaaaah. I heard all the new ferries have massive speaker systems installed - like nightclub strong. There's rumors you can hear it, over the waters, late at night, like the sirens calling out to Odysseus, bringing madness, then death.
Yay! Nothing like hearing that song again to brighten up my day! My daughter was in Japan earlier in the year for school and during her last week took the Sunflower ferry the other direction: Osaka to Beppu. She also mentioned how the buffet was heavy on the fish but not much in the way of other meats. At my request, she even bought me one of those blue/gold-braided "Sunflower Heartfelt Hospitality" hats from the gift shop I had noticed in other RUclips videos. "Sunflower! Sunflower!"
Me: Man, I feel crummy. I need something to brighten my day or distract me. What's on YouTu- Solo Travel Japan: 🎶 Sunflower, Sunflower 🎶 Me: Yes. Thank you.

Not many people here in Japan get to step onboard a Sunflower ferry - especially the one from Oarai to Hokkaido. It is almost always fully booked and expensive. I've been here 32 years and am yet to successfully book a Sunflower ferry. Having heard that bloody song and seeing the fact that we are 'boading' instead of 'boarding', I feel somewhat relieved that the Gods have come to my rescue each and every time and made sure that booking the ferry is impossible.
I saw the title, and the song started playing in my mind😅. This is a lovely ship, and looked comfortable. I am always glad to see a ferry video-happy early birthday to me! Thanks for taking us along, Solo-san.
I really need to start watching these with the volume down just so I don’t start singing sunflower. Tonight I started singing it to my kitten who was sleeping on my shoulder lol.
After a stressful day (carpenter ant war currently being waged 😓) this was just what I needed to relax. Thanks for always providing calming and hunger-inducing videos!
Not being able to turn "Sunflower" off is a distinct disadvantage to the semi-private pods. I'd be wearing earplugs or staying outside as long as possible to avoid descending into complete madness before departure. I loved the smiley-faced potato cakes - we have those here in America, too, and like dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets, they're considered a food for children. Still tasty, though 😁. The sashimi looked wonderful, as did the desserts. Thanks for sharing the trip with us!
I continue to be completely surprised at how reasonably priced such voyages in Japan are, making them accessible to everyone. I live in British Columbia, Canada and am a frequent traveler on BC Ferries where you would be lucky to find coffee and a donut for $5.70, let a lone an all-you-can-eat buffet with such variety.
I think us old-timers are starting to hear "Sunshine" in our heads as soon as we read the word. Food looked yummy, and the room was my style. Hugs from Canada.
Ah, "Sunflower...Sunflower..."🌻🌻🌻🌻 I've been singing this to the sunflowers I grow in my backyard, lol. They seem to like it, though I my pronunciation still isn't the best lol. Anyway, I love the Sunflower ferries and definitely plan to use them to travel around Japan. What a nice, comfortable room. I do have a question though. I'm an inch below six feet, will the beds fit me?
Oh dear, I still remember enjoying your videos taking the Osaka to Beppu route on the old sunflower and visiting all the onsen two years ago. Time flies.
Living in a country where semi-private rooms are safe must be nice. I'm not sure I could get used to it though if I moved. I'm too used to being around people who would steal something if it isn't nailed down, lol.
I like the decor on this one! This is also the one I would be most likely to take given where we would like to visit in Japan. I so appreciate your videos! You've literally helped us choose a few of our vacation choices.
The Sunflower 🌻 song is what's called an ear worm in German, guess it'll follow me around for the rest of the day. 😊 Sunflower, Sunflower 🎶 Lovely trip btw, many thanks for posting
What a serene voyage. The main staircase is amazing. The cabin you chose was just right. One weird thing to me is the very small towel the ferries give you. For drying off I like a couple of body towels and honestly still am too shy to take a public bath 🇺🇲
Who doesn't love the Sunflower song? Probably the crew. We have famous sweet onions in the United States as well - they are called 'Vidalia Onions' and come from a small region in the U.S.
Great trip. Ah yes, Sunflower Ferry trip again, only reading the title, that song playing in my mind. Talking about Sunflower, not long ago, A big Ferry company in my country bought second hand Ferry from Sunflower Ferry. Overall nice cabin with affordable price.
Does it still sing the Sanfurawa song? Have they turned it off officially but every now and then you can hear the ghostly strains of the song echoing through the corridor?
As soon as I saw this video in my feed, the song started up in my head...Sunflower...Sunflower... It's interesting that you would mention they might be cutting costs by not serving beef steak. I live in Nebraska, a state in the US where we're surrounded by beef and the ocean is a long way off, so fish is much more expensive here.
I was having a rough start today but when I heard the Sunflower song I was happy and dancing to the song. The sunflower song is quite a catchy tune. Thanks for sharing the ferry ride, and that yummy food as well as the song with us. 🌻🌻🌻
The food on this trip looked very appealing for both meals. But as you hinted zt dinner you're never too full for dessert to be eaten. A nice ferry ride. Bushyboy Oz.
This ferry has a very nice whistle. Reminds me of Hans Zimmer. The buffet seems nice and filling, and the bed quite comfy. Diesel vibrate more because the ignition inside the cylinders happens under higher pressure than most other fuels, and thus creates a bigger lower-pitched sound. Bigger wavelength=better penetration thru solid objects like ship hulls.
…interspersed in places with the haunting refrains of “Sanfurawa, Sanfurawa” in the background. At one point you can hear the dramatic music and quietly the Sunflower song at the same time. It’s insidious. 😂
Your accommodations were very good for the price. I always enjoy watching you eat at an “All You Can Eat”. I predicted the nap after. No different than here in the US. When I go to a Chinese all you can eat buffet, I stuff myself. 😂 thanks for taking us along, I love your videos. 🙏✌️
Hi Ive been watching your videos which Im really enjoying. Some of your comments make me laugh. i also enjoy watching you eat all that delicious food. Keep the videos coming. Your stripe socks r good too. CW from London England
Never heard the Sunflower song. I have a mute switch! I find the concept of pasta or potato salad for breakfast rather strange. I see it feature quite often in these, and other videos of AYCE breakfasts in Japan, but never seen it elsewhere. Thank you Solo san for broadening my outlook!
It depends... if the pasta or salad is left from the previous night, it is breakfast. A survey said that one of the popular breakfast foods in New Zealand is leftover pizza, (this also applies to *any* leftover food)!
Imagine being part of the crew of a Sunflower ferry and hearing that song again and again…
no thank you.
You sure would get to memorise it. Bushyboy Oz
I believe Sunflower Ferry is secretly a cult and the song is their chant to keep the crew and passengers obedient
😂Sunflower...sunflower...
It might be great for them, if they like it! 😁
I've never been to Japan but the Sunflower song lives rent free in my head.

Sunflower...SUNFLOWER ? I am having flashbacks and the song is already in my head playing over and over :)

Harken back to the days of yor whence we first learned the majesty of the "Sunflower" song!

That was so long ago yet so close
Just think of how many people around the world now know the sunflower 🌻 song but will never ever step foot on the ferry 😅
exactly.
Pure gold. Love it. Commercial win for Japan!

Like me! I don't even know Japanese, but sing the Sunflower Song (wrong, yes..)

Lol.. All the way from RDU.. sunflower sunflower
They keep building new ferries for him.
haha!!
I do not speak Japanese, however I have watched all of your videos on the Sunflower and can easily sing the entire song from memory now.

@ObsoleteVodkaYT It does, but if you board early, having it on endless repeat until then with no escape would be maddening!
We have those “smiley faces” potatoes in the U.K. and the chicken dinosaurs
@ObsoleteVodkaYT What do you mean "good" music? There is no music better than Sunflower music!
Ahhhhh the Sunflower Song……I feel ready to sail…
I kept waiting for the curry!!! Oh well. This sad lack was somewhat eased by the always-fabulous socks! Arigato Solo san✌🤟
I learned how to make Japanese curry because of these videos!

I have 100+ sunchokes. They arec10ft tall and still growing.
He said the bed was 76 inches by 33. So you should be ok at 71 inches tall.
Oh I'm hoping for the sunflower song! 🌻
"SUNFLOWER... SUNFLOWER... SUNFLOWER... SUNFLOWER..." The nightmare returns! Glad you made it out alive. I hope you are still sane!
Sunflower always resolves back to the tonic chord. 😊
Awesome!!!!! “Sunflower 🌻 Sunflower 🌻 !” So happy now.
Thanks for the singalong lyrics 😊 Food as always looks wonderful on your video.
Sunflower song brings a smile to my face 😊
Oh dear, I still remember enjoying your videos taking the Osaka to Beppu route on the old sunflower and visiting all the onsen two years ago. Time flies.
The Sunflower song was stuck in my head for three days after the last Sunflower video. Thanks for doing that to me again on this one 😂 Safe journeys.

Lol - gotta love that “Boading” screen - close but no ciga!
A new sunflower ferry trip❤
I hear that song in my dreams and love it!!!🎉 I actually downloaded the song and listen to it regularly 😂❤
I think that ship is pretty spectacular in the entrance hall around the stairs. It’s really cool to see that movie screen on the ceiling.
That seems quite a good idea. A lot less claustrophobic than a small inside cabin, and with more privacy than simply a curtain
I am genuinely excited for this! Sunflower! Sunflower! YAY!! 🌻😊

tbh, i'm surpised how a 200 meter long ship is under 20000 tons. great video!

It would be a very classy touch to have the Sunflower theme song played by a live orchestra in the ship's lobby, over and over and over...
2 thumbs up. One for your superb video and 2nd one for sunflowers componist 😂
Sunflower 🌻 😊

The epic music from the lobby playing over all the shots of generally mundane places on the ship was hilarious 🤣
