I'm an old lady. I like the old boat feel. I hope that when it retires, that the company remodels it to renew it and puts it back in service as a new boat. I hate when good things are wasted simply because they get old. It is sad when it happens.
Fair winds and following seas to Ivory as she sails into retirement. I hope you have a safe and healthy 2023, Solo- filled with all the things that make you happiest, like good curry. 😁 Thanks for taking us along again.
I do miss the days of empty Japan, sir. Congratulations on riding the ferry one last time. Your self deprecating wit is unrivalled. That’s why you’re still the best. 👍
This is a beautiful ship. I'm glad you got the chance to see her. The decor and trim feel so nostalgic for me, it brings me back to my 90's childhood 😁 Also in case you were wondering, that popping sound from the sink happens when the drain trap starts to dry up and there's not a full water seal. Running the water fills the trap back up. :)
Solo Travel Japan - Sensai's sock game is on point Sad to see a ship retire, but she looks to be retiring at the top of her game and proudly doing loyal service to the bitter end
Sunflower~ Sunflower~ hahaha So sad to see that the ship is going to retire but here’s to new beginnings! Happy New Year Solo-San and everyone in the comments! 🎉
Sun-floww-ah! Sun-floww-ah! Domo arigato for a year of delightful ferry rides and commentary. In 2023 we'll continue to watch till the end. Peace and joy to you!
Old Japan ferry ships usually get extra life being sold to other countries so we might see her again with different operator in a different country. Early Happy New Year greetings to the channel.
Waiting in lines, eating salads? They grow up so fast.. Also blue light sabers, so Japan has Jedi's confirmed. I couldn't do a bunk bed if given the choice, the design of them to me always feels confined. Overall the ship is what you would expect from something that age, it looked well taken care of. Thanks for the trip Solo, it was nice to see Ivory again.
Such a Lovely nostalgic ship.⛴️ So nice you got to ride, one last time.🌊 To have experienced more than one room on her must bring great memories.💙 Thank you for sharing her retirement.🥂⚓ 🕊️❤️🎸
Great video as usual! Your commentary always makes me smile. I wonder where she will go? Maybe a nice size to go to Greece like the last one of Silver ferry. Or maybe Philippines. We will see I guess, but let’s hope not to scrap.
Happy New Year, and I hope you are able to enjoy the hatsuhinode, the first sun of the new year. Thank you for all these wonderful journeys you share with all of us here around the world. Your wit and observations make each of these journeys a joy to watch as you share your travels. I hope 2023 brings you even more amazing experiences and trips.
Where is the song??? :( But that was great trip for the end of the year End of the year = end of service ;) See You in 2023 dear STJ :) Happy New Year!
I am sorry to see such a majestic ferry go away! I am very sad and I wish I could have been on her ride over seas! Thank you very much for showing us this treasure!
Thank you for another video that calms me and let me forget the world around me. Wish I could join you on one of your journeys in real life. Am interested in Japan since I was a little kid. Don't know why.
Solo Travel San...everything changes....nothing remains the same. When you get as old as I am (65) you will hit the reality that you cant think forward but only look backwards. I miss our U.K. locomotives of the 60s and the music of the 70s. Its nice to have a trip to past times but all good things must come to an end. It was a good video and you will now have digital memories of a great adventure.
Glad we got to take the Sunflower Ivory one last time before it's retired. This is the second ferry I have noticed a shoehorn beside the door. Actually, I thought the room was nice. But the best thing was the dessert. Will catch you in the next one. Take care and be safe.
Looks like a interesting journey. Do ferry companies replace older ships because people stop riding the older ships or is it because there is a time limit imposed by the government for ferries? Are new ferries much more popular among the travelers?
Older vehicles have more fundamental safety concerns, so the Japanese sell the ships to less developed countries before they are a completely obsolete. Whenever you see a ferry accident somewhere, it's because they were using an older ship from a more developed nation. Similar with aircraft. It's sad.
Actually selling the ships to other countries that aren't so able to buy new ones is a good idea. They still have lots of life in them but unfortunately the maintenance is sometimes not very good hence eventual problems.
New ferry = faster, better fuel efficiency, better for environment, better on board facilities, new technology, more cofortable. Like other users said old ferry go to developing country, sometimes they become company flagship but the service can't be compared with japan because ticket price is cheaper. (You can search dharma kencana VII, ex sunflower kirishima, for example)
Do any other long time fans of this channel try to guess the firmness of the pillow and bed when he tests them? I’ll say out loud “medium” or “soft,” hoping to guess correctly 😅
It would have been funny if you approached the sink while it was making that strange sound and, as you got closer, you began to hear the Sunflower ferry song. XD
It looked like a couple of the Jedi were crossing sabers towards the end!😁 Glad to see you get your money's worth at the all you can eat restaurant!👍 Hope you have a happy New Years!
What beautiful ship! 🛳 Yummy food!!! 🍱 🍜 a nice room for two 🎒 💼 and a real room key 🔑 to a real door🚪!!!!! All this equals a great final trip ✨💖✨💖✨💖✨💖✨💖✨💖✨💖✨💖✨💖✨💖✨💖✨ Thank You!!! 😊 Stay Well!!! 🍻
Oh my stars... LOL 14:48 as you were looking for that sound, my television, which had been searching for its signal, suddenly blasted the theme song to Married... with children. By the way, much better song to hear than the Sunflower song, which has literally been stuck in my head off and on since you posted that video last week. Too funny!
Happy New Year! Im thankful for this channel cos i have always dreamt to be able to go to Japan but I couldn't as i am not financially stable to afford the trip but watching STJ it feels like i'm accompanying him/her they/them on the journey. Happy new year STJ-san, thank you so much for all your 2022 videos, really entertaining and enriched my horizon. We had a good year isn"t it? 🤠 Have a successful 2023, I support you my friend ❤️
What happens to Ferries (in Japan) when they are retired? Thank you again for sharing another amazing viewing-portal into a world that many of us will never be able to experience.
@Kiki - Thank you for answering. IMHO those other countries are getting a great deal as everything Japanese seems, cleaner, better, more organized and lasts longer. ❤
Great trip and happy New year. I hope this ship can't go to scrapyard first, she should sailing somewhere or to be bought by overseas Ferry companies to serve at their country.
hmmm Just a little suspicious at 13:45! I think you're trying to sneak a bowl of curry past us! :D Happy New Year, STJ! I look forward to your travels, and whatever curries you may find in 2023!
Ohhh! It's sad to say goodby to any ferry in the Sunflower fleet. The eeriest and creepiest of all the ferry fleets! Thanks for sharing this. I can't say enough about how bad I want to ride a sunflower ferry and hear that creepy song in person.
I checked up on Ivory out of curiosity. It seems she is now working out of Surabaya as Dharma Kartika II. I hope she is bringing happiness to her passengers.
Thank you for all the wonderful tours of 2022, and many happy return for 2023! I wish a year of curry, Hamburg steak, happiness, and prosperity for you, Solo Travel!
Glad you were able to take a trip before she retires. Thank you for your video. The child saying "Bye Bye" was cute. I'm assuming the man's voice was the Dad. (Maybe?) The restaurant also sounded pleasant.
that salad look so nourish and refreshing. I agree on the second refill. Feels like cleanse the inner mouths with good nutrients. Please do more video on ferry, really which to see go on Okinawa and Hokkaido.

posibly water evaporating from the p trap in the sink makes the popping sound
Nothing like finding a new favorite food!
I've watch so many of your videos that I can tell the softness or the hardness of the pillows and beds by sight. 😊
I always like your socks 😊

@@lannifincoris6482 Not as cute as the ones my now middle-aged niece loves to wear. Me, I shake my head whenever I see them. 🤣
After 25 years, it is still a beautiful ship.
I also learned that if your sink starts popping its probably time to retire.
Thank you, Solo San!
that cheeky little curry bowl "someone" forgot on your tray at 13:46... :D thank you for your videos, they are the highlight of my week!

What better way to end the year watching a video by Solo Travel San. Thank you for all you do , showing us places we may never travel to.
