    This is the level of service that Japan can only provide, they will serve you at their best and not waiting for any tip, it's expensive but it gives you a more relax and best experience to not of think of anyother things outside what you are paying. Lovelove Japan.

We were only there for an hour. Now imagine if that waitress had only two tables. They’re easily making over $100/hr for their jobs. When I first started working I got a weekend waitress job for fun and was making more in tips than my finance job. Fucking crazy.

    On the one hand, it's kind of insane that the drivers and guards and staff are trained to wave exactly X number of times at every signal. On the other hand, if I'm paying US$2800 for a train ride, this is the kind of theatre that I feel adds to the value proposition. This is awesome.

    8:05 Is something I believe a lot of businesses should learn, especially western ones. If you're gonna be expensive, you're better off charging it all from the get go. Don't involve more costs afterwards, especially tips. It really deters from the experience to have to worry about paying more when you already paid a lot at the beginning.

    • @henrycogo3013
      @henrycogo3013 9 месяцев назад +1

      Your comment "...why does everything in Japan have to be so high quality..." is both sad and funny. I live in Hawaii with both my parents who are entering the 80s soon. Hawaii is known globally for its hospitality industry and they both worked so hard for Hilton and Hyatt Resorts to present a high level of service to rude travelers and amazed travelers. It is a cultural thing that most people who live in the Hawaiian Islands do their best to live by, the expression of Hawaiian Aloha. It is a view that all people who come to visit the islands are welcome and deserve respect and kindness for having ventured so far to stop by and visit. Times have been changing since the days of Elvis Presley and Don Ho, yet there are enough people who are willing to tolerate the most abusive of guests until local authorities show a consistent pattern of bad behavior through CCTV-recorded security footage. I know that my career in the cut-throat IT industry in Silicon Desert did benefit from doing my best to show Aloha to the worst of customers to complete any project. I believe the Japanese people share a similar existence of peace without chaos. Thus the role of delivering superior service for people who want to relax and escape the world for a few days is completely understood, especially if the service was paid for in advance.

    Only in Japan! I love how much Japanese love their trains. The Shikishima is extravagant beyond anything I could imagine a train could be. But one thing that seemed a bit out of character, was the use of an ordinary physical key for the traveler’s room. I would have expected something like the electronic keyless entry of modern cars. But that’s a small quibble in such an extraordinary experience as the Shikishima.

      Actually this has been a part of the European culture for almost as long as trains have been invented. Actually most stuff that you see in other cultures/countries was highly likely invented by Europeans first. You should see how some old European (and later also American) luxury trains looked like... They were not as modern looking but they were way, waay, waaaay more equipped and waaay more luxurious than the ones you see today. They had exclusive/elite, super high end wagons for literal residence, with literal restaurants, casinos, show rooms, concert hall-wagons, sauna room wagons, and so on and so forth... Then you also had trains with entire 3 story wagons with ''penthouse'' style residence at the top most floors, which were equipped with literally everything you could possibly need, as well as being connected to the next wagon for your personal chefs, buttlers and whoever else to have easy access to your wagon... Sh*t was crazy luxurious. They weren't just luxury rooms, it was like watching hotels, halls, resorts and casinos moving on railroad tracks... It was unreal!
      The one train I will always remember, is a huge red train that resembeled modern bullet train look, except it had 2 story wagons and was way bigger and was basically an elite/rich people only train and it consisted of 3 mega luxurious, absolutely enormous residential wagons at the front with everything else, with every other wagon, basically just being full of stuff where said elites/rich people could spend money and kill time while traveling, stuff like casinos, jewelry stores, premium clothing stores, art exhibits and mini art museums and whatnot... That was the craziest one I've seen...

    This is a beautiful train interior. It appears to be Cape gauge 3" 6" the normal gauge for Japan and South Africa. The bullet train uses standard gauge 4' 8-1/2". The square interior decoration likely having a specific name adds a lot to the interior experience. Japan's volcanic derived scenery is definitely or extraordinary interest with its near tropic growth. This does seem like it would be attractive to mostly rail fans. It is slow and there needs to be an interest in the rail experience.

    Everything looks incredibly clean.
    People aren't fighting on every street corner, and there are no junkies or homeless people.
    Everyone seems warm and calm. I love their smiles, and I can feel their kindness just by watching them!
    The mountains and natural beauty are breathtaking. The colors around are vibrant, and I don't see any old buildings or cracks or graffitti in the walls,
    not even a small piece of trash on the ground.
    I want so much to live my life there or simply travel to experience that beauty!
    Greetings from beautiful Greece! I love you!

    Really quite interesting. The Japanese design sense throughout blows me away every time! The bathroom is almost better than the scenery! HUGE! But on the other hand, If I ate skimpy but divine meals like that, I would be skinny like a Japanese, too!
    This really makes one appreciate the value of a slow train. You can actually grasp the scenery better, more time to absorb it, less blurry. Brilliant!

    • @SoloTravelJournal
      @SoloTravelJournal  Год назад +11

      Completely agree with you! Another reason why this train operates slowly is to maintain a comfortable ride. As you may notice the train doesn’t shake as much compared to normal trains.

      What really helps with the weight is that Japan is extremely walkable. The rail network is easy to use, whether it is subways, commuter rail or HSR. Just walk everywhere and walk onto a train when the distance is too great. Meals are perfectly sized - I find them to be very filling, but sometimes supplement with snacks from a nearby convenience store. I've usually lost a few pounds by the time I return from travel in Japan!

      @@squarecracker American postwar policy explicitly prioritized freight rail, funded the interstate system so strategic trucking could respond to a continental invasion and encouraged air travel as a jobs program for reserve strategic air command pilots. Previously, the US had world-leading long haul and local rail with far less population density than modern Japan.

The corridors, suites, those unusual shaped windows, then the front carriage viewing, the food! absolutely astounding 😮😍😍 I have seen some gorgeous Japanese trains but this one is worth every single penny, that's not a train trip it's an entire experience ❤❤❤

    This looks like a great experience and something I would want to do when I eventually get to Japan. It's one thing if it was luxury accommodations to just travel, but this is more of a luxury tour through parts of Japan. This is something I would like to experience when I get there. A nice train ride through the country with food/drinks and stops for some tours makes this look like it is worth the expense.

I've taken the various cross-country trains here in Canada multiple times and the trips have been wonderful, especially sleeping with the gentle rocking of the train and sitting in the observation car overlooking vistas in the rain. All that said, those trips don't come close to comparing to this... I might have found my honeymoon spot (assuming I ever have a partner... lol).
