My Resistol 6X with rope band that I paid $75 for some 9 to 10 years ago has been a great hat. I don't see this hat being superior to any of my current hats, but that doesn't mean it's not a nice-looking, comfortable, durable hat, it may surprise everyone. I personally like the look of it.

I agree with your summation of the hat. It's a decent-looking hat, but Tecovas has missed the mark with the price tag. As you mentioned, you could get a much higher quality hat from Stetson, Resistol, or Rodeo King for a similar price or less.
Yep. I was in the market for a new hat in chocolate (brown) and searched everywhere locally for an American Hat Co hat and could not find one in that color. I did get a Rodeo King on sale and stacked with a military discount, I couldn’t pass it up.
I am glad Tecovas is dipping their toes in cowboy hats! I would have grabbed one for review but I would have to go to the store in person because I got a weird head and pre shaped hats typically don't fit properly(mainly the crown is too low). I also prefer to get open crowns and have it hand shaped, but I will say that hat has a very nice shape. Great job on this video man, I like how you pointed out how they didn't need to put an x rating, glad they aren't following the trend of just slapping an x rating on a hat for the sake of it. Yeah, I have two 10x rodeo king felts. Both were open crown and I love them! I do have a grizzly American hat co, definitely a special occasion hat lol

The issue is with off the rack hats is my head is a bit of a long oval. The black Cody James hat I got at boot barn dented my forhead until I learned to steam it and stretch it in to a better shape. I'm looking at a twister 6x from the Cow Lot because they custom shape or a Resistol 72 6x but open to ideas.
I have 6 Akubra hats from Australia, made all from 100% rabbit and they are seriously kick ass hats and tough! Nothing wrong with rabbit at all! This hat looks fantastic!

Solid review, man. I actually kinda dig the hat, but I can't argue with your points dollar for dollar. It would just come down to folks wanting to throw Tecovas a solid for the sake of supporting a company they like, in spite of the quality deficit as compared to other more established, more premium hat makers. I see on their website they have this hat in umber, I will say, it looks good. Ultimately, sales will determine whether Tecovas keeps the hat at this price point or mark it down a bit. So I saw the new umber color but in American or any other hat brand it’s called chocolate and if you like the tear drop or Gus shape on the crown and you order from a reputable company like jobe’s hat best hat store or NRS just to name a few that I know you can let them know that you want your hat shaped like the Tecovas hat and the will do it for you and if you like the brim small like the Tecovas hat 4 inch brim they could cut it down and make it look just like that but with a much better quality hat if you can do American hat co that would be the best even in there 7x but any brand would do better then this for the money. Also the Tecovas crown is too short especially for the shape so if you notice the hat seat’s to high on my had and looks silly as opposed to my American. I’ve wanting to their hat, but was wondering if the price was too high or not for the rabbit fur. I’m newer to hats and so far two of my three hats are wool, but I’ve been wanting something a bit better.
The pic inside the crown reminds me of Bailey Hats. They were notorious for putting imprints in the inside liner. Maybe Bailey is manufacturing these hats for Tecovas.

For a 100% hare hat I am thinking $200. - $225 for an off the shelf hat. I don’t mind the crown, something different than a Cattlemen’s crease. I’d flatten that brim out and give it some dip. Nice review!
You can buy a superior Rodeo King for nearly $100 less than a Tecovas. I know that because I did just so. On the other hand, I do like Tecovas boots and own four pair of them
Yes sir if you go to the right shaper they could do it if it’s a new open crown but if the hat already has a crown shape or has been factory pressed then the place where you take it to would need to be able to re-block the crown back to an open crown and then reshape it but it could definitely be done.
I'm not a Tecovas basher, I've got a couple pair of boots from them and they haven't done me wrong, but for the hat, the high price aside that crown is, uh...... interesting.
Yes I have nothing against Tecovas they Have done lots of great things but hats are very particular and I wouldn’t wear one of these nor do I see it worthy of it’s price tag.

Excellent review!! That hat, in my opinion, is overpriced. The Tecovas enthusiasts may like the hat just because it is made by them. However, it is a unique style and it will be interesting to see just how well it is received in general.
American for me are the best money can buy. But, I’d like to see them put some around the $180-200 range. I would like a 3 or 4x to wear when it’s humid outside without having to wear a straw hat

It is a much nicer had them for 30x resistol as far as Finish bill quality and not to mention the 40x American is 50 to 60% beaver so being that they are at the same price I would strongly recommend trying out an American if you have a shop near you that has one I don’t think he would regret it
Akubra all day long will be better than any of these. I own three and a 60x American. The American is amazing. I also own a 7x American that’s super disappointing especially for the price. Get an Akubra Woomera. Big ol Montana style hat that can be shaped. Superb hat under 200. Get direct from Australia. Cheaper even with shipping.
Yes it is very small compared to modern standards Stetson would be much better then this by far but if you want to splurge and get the best hat it’s gonna be American hat company they are a bit more but a hat to own a lifetime.
I buy my hats from hat makers and my boots from boot makers. Tecovas targets newbies and hipsters. Their boots are ok for a decent priced mid tier boot. I can get a far superior Stetson or Resistol for the price of their hat.
Their boots are pretty well made though. Lemonwood pegs and brass nails, leather stacked heel, only downside really is there heel counter material other than that they’re damn good for the price. I can’t speak for their hats cause I agree. You could get a better one for the same price with a different brand.
I saw this hat in store yesterday and wasn’t impressed with the quality for the price point. I have Stetson and Larry Mahan hats that are much nicer and better quality felt that cost less than this hat. Basically, this is a hat for hipsters into western wear that will never use the hat for any kind of work.
use of the word "traditional" can be confusing in the context of a cowboy hat because what is Traditional to someone from Texas whos 35 might be very different to someone whos from Wyoming and is 65 years old. it really is a one of a kind crease, not really a gus at all.
Nice hat, beautiful liner, but yes, way overpriced. Many more options at that price. Tecovas has a great marketing campaign and focuses on a larger demographic-those who aren’t “cowboys.” I like their boots, and their boots are priced very competitively.

A little steam and some tweaking on the brim, you'll have a decent looking hat. At the same time, if the hat is not for you, then it's not for you.

the more narrow shape of that tacovas is better for his face the wide brim is trendy but for his face and jaw thats way too big
