Well sir, I like that hat. It has some very nice lines to it. Now, I'm an old retired Texas peace officer, who spent ten years in the mounted unit, out of my 30 year career. And worked on a cattle ranch about 15 years total before and after my days as a lawman. Guess you could say I'm not some kind of wimpy little guy. I'd wear that hat any day, and never feel the need to order a Shirley Temple at the bar. Bourbon, if you please... And as to the floral design on the buckle, I still ride a 1932 Potsengerten floral tooled double rig saddle handed down from my father. Another old mounted Texas lawman. And nobody ever called either one of us anything but "sir" when addressing us. 😒 So, wear that hat, and enjoy it. And pay no attention to anything anyone else says. They're just not right in the head. 😂
You, sir, likely win the award for the most in-depth, information-filled comment ever posted on my channel. And despite your best efforts, I remain convinced that I am, in fact, too fat for that dainty little hat. Thanks for watching.
The Seneca looks a lot like the John Wayne Stetson that you reviewed. I’m not a fan of the hat band but the hat looks more like the traditional cowboy hat that we see in the old westerns with the pinched front and flat crown. If I buy one, I’ll roll the brim a little
I am 5'11" 185 lbs and wear a 7 /12 hat. I get many compliments about this hat, I live in Boston and didn't want a cattleman style hat. This is a perfect blend of fedora, Aussie and cowboy hat.
I purchased this hat about 8 months ago. I liked the way it looked online. When I pulled it out of the box I was a little underwhelmed for lack of a better word. When I put it on it didn’t look like a traditional cowboy hat like the Stetson Skyline . It looked like a cross between a Fedora and a Aussie outback hat . Its an ok looking hat but It doesn’t look like what I normally think of when I picture the American Cowboy Western style hat. Another good video and review!
Thank you for your videos. I find them to have tongue-in-cheek humor, which need these days, and informative at the same time. Thanks again and keep 'em coming!
Many thanks for your kind words, and, yes, like a morbidly obese pixie, I do try to spread joy and happiness everywhere I go. As long as y'all keep watching them, I'll keep making them.
Brother, I too share your love of wrestling and those same memories. Absolutely some of the most purely joyful times of my life. Make me smile see your collection. Love the videos.
Good looking hat. I like a pinch front and tear drop crown. Growning up in Tampa FL I watched the same wrestlers you did, only a few years earlier. I met Jack Brisco , Hulk Hogan, Dory Funk Jr and a few more. A lot of them lived locally and it was not hard to run into them back in the day. Love your videos , keep up the good work. You can't put a price on a pair of big blue panties that have been signed by the Nature Boy, Ric Flair.
Thanks for watching and for the kind words. I've read that Tampa was where a number of wrestlers lived both back in the day and still today. If I'm ever in the Tampa area, I plan to visit the site where Macho Man Randy Savage had his accident and died. We took a family vacation to Kentucky last year, and my wife rolled her eyes when I insisted that we visit the grave of Macho Man's ex-wife, Miss Elizabeth, who is buried in Frankfort.
Boy we were on a roll tonight there History Nerd. First of all the young lady modeling the hat was pretty nice in my book, you should have kept her picture up during your rant. As far as the wrestling panties just tell your wife its better to get them in the mail than a pair from an old girlfriend. All that being said I think it's a nice hat and looks good on you. Looking forward to more great videos.
Oh I also wanted to say that I’ve commented before, I’m 22 and just getting into wearing western apparel. I live in chicago so I thought it might be challenging but there’s actually a famous western wear store called Alcala’s Western Wear and they have an incredible selection. I bought myself a pair of boots along with a nice Stetson shirt. The shirt was not cheap but it’s got an incredible design, feels high quality, and has really nice snaps. I was wondering if you had a collection of western wear past hats, and what you think about Stetsons shirts if you have any experience with them?
I don’t think they make Stetson shirts in the big boy sizes that i need. Good to hear that even Chicago has a western wear store. Many thanks for watching!
I can sit and listen to you talk all day. I really enjoyed listening to you. Talk about wrestling. It brought back a lot of great memories for me as well. And by the way, I don’t think the hat looks bad on you.
The hat looks fine. The brim in proportion to your shoulders are real good too. I don’t think a hat the size of an umbrella, if that’s what your looking for, would fit right or look well. I had a chance to MC a wrestling event in the 80’s with Toro Tanaka and Mr. Fugi and Earnie Lad and a handful of others. It was an enjoyable time back in those days.
I have the Stetson Catera which was apparently named after an unpopular model of Cadillac, it's very similar to your Seneca although it's part of the "Gun Club" series and claims to be 5X's. Luckily I am a man of average girth and luckily it's proportional and is my daily wearer.
Tommy rich only held that title for a few days! I love continental championship wrestling! TimHorner! Wendell Cooley! The Nightmares! Thank you for that trip down memory lane
Tommy Rich was my favorite as a kid, but he liked to have a good time smoking and drinking and running around with the ring rats, so the NWA promoters weren't confident he had the maturity and responsibility to show up for matches as world champion. The simple fact that he got the belt even for a short time is testament to his popularity.
Thank you I enjoyed all of your video. At 75 yrs. old I remeber several of those Wrestlers. Gorden Solie thanks for reminding me of Gordon Solie. Thanks again - I subscribed.
I love some of your comments and have me laughing out loud -great video and the hat is a little small for your mellon -haha keep up the reviews -i look forward to them !!!!!!!
I agree with you on the buckle on the band. Now the color looks tan, but who knows. lol. Thank you for the information! I do like the hat and love your humor.
What was in Box #2? (1/2) Always enjoy your Southern take on hats. My go to is a Stetson 10X chocolate with a trimmed brim. Had it before John Dutton made them fashionable.
Good eye you’ve got there, Chief. Box #2 was the Stetson John Wayne Stageline that I unboxed on video a few weeks ago. And look at you rockin’ the 10X, Mr. Moneybags.
I'd give it a shot, Bubba, but I wear a 7 3/4 hat, and the Amish hat is made only up to size 7 5/8. Sadly, a lot of Stetson hat models are not made in the massive size that my ginormous head requires. Thanks for watching, and good luck with your new, snappy hat.
I may just do that. They are building a Cavender's in my area, so I won't have to drive all over hell's half-acre to get my hats shaped anymore. Thanks for the suggestion, and thanks, too, for watching.
That's a nice hat, and it looks good on you. I have the Drifter which is also in the Buffalo Collection. I want to reshape the brim to make it curl up more on the sides. I do have a Jiffy Steamer and stiffener. Do you think wool hats can be reshaped?
I only review and wear Stetsons. My father was born in the Texas dust bowl a few years before the Great Depression and grew up in extreme poverty until he enlisted in the Army during WWII. He said he knew he’d finally made it in the world when he could afford his first Stetson. That’s the only brand Dad ever wore, so it’s the only one I wear. Many thanks for watching%
My late father wore only Stetsons, so I wear only Stetsons, but I think Stetson and the brands you mentioned are all owned by the same company. Thanks for watching!
It's decent hat, a little wider that the Open Road with slightly more western accent. it's almost the size of my Steston Rancher which I think is discontinued.
I bought a straw Stetson Rancher last year and unboxed it on my channel. With a 5-inch crown and 4-inch brim, I believe it's the biggest hat Stetson currently makes. They may have discontinued the felt version, though.
I'll drag mine out of the box I keep it in and take a couple of pictures of it to send you. It's the only felt western hat I own & I rarely wear it anymore but I always enjoy it when I do. It most definitely needs to be cleaned and blocked.
I finally dragged out my Stetson felt hat, inside the band it's labeled 4X Beaver and the tag says E2010 Rancher. It's got a 5 inch crown and a 3 1/2 inch brim. I really need to take this somewhere to be cleaned and blocked.
Good video, i think the hat looks good on you. Have you ever thought of doing a video for an American hat company hat. Much more comfortable and when are you looking going to do another bourbon video. I like those to
My father wore Stetsons, so that's what I wear in tribute to him. I've reviewed a couple of Resistols recently, but they are owned by the same company as Stetson. You're not the first to recommend American Hat Company hats, so I will take a look. I planned to do bourbon reviews, as well, but my most viewed bourbon video has 1,500 views after one year while one of my hat videos has 93,000 views after a year. It's pretty obvious which topic interests my viewers most. Many thanks for watching and commenting!
First off I very much enjoy your channel. I, like you, I’m 6 foot three and 280 pounds. I have what they call a convex six pack, or better known as a belly that looks like a beer keg I would love to know what Hat looks good guys like you and I
Go take a look at my video about the Stetson Rancher. It's the biggest hat in terms of crown and brim size that Stetson makes. Looks great on big guys like us, but you've got to have some swagger to pull it off, as well.
I store them in their original Stetson boxes in the top of my closet and under my bed. During fall and winter, the felt hats are in my closet, and the straw hats are under the bed, and I reverse them during spring and summer.
Cowboy hats may be hard to acquire in Germany...but you certainly seem to be doing a good job getting them. Stetsons certainly look snappier than those Bavarian alpine hats in Germany. Thanks for watching all the way from Europe, Chief.
I chuckled when you said you have a problem finding “big hats” because you wear a 7 3/4 hat size. You think you have problems. Try finding a 7 7/8 or 8. It really ticks me off that Stetson prides itself on being the American hat maker, yet they seldom make hats larger than 7 3/4. I’ve written to them a number of times, but their reply is all of their hat templates only go up to that size. Are you serious?!! Yet I see numerous online complaints that there are few if any XXL sized hats to be found anywhere. Thank God for Akubra. The Aussies recognize that people are made with big heads so they make XXL hats. ( 63 or 64 cm ) In my estimation, Akubra runs circles around Stetson not only in terms of sizing, but quality and style.
@@historynerdsmancave7567 Unless you're contracted with Stetson, do yourself a favor and try on an Akubra from Down Under. I've bought them direct from Akubra and online through David Morgan located in Bothell, WA. I'd suggest their Cattleman or Banjo Paterson, the two I wear the most here in Texas.
We are similar age. I remember watching wrestling as a kid on Sunday afternoons. I have noticed your colonel Sanders bobble head… are you a KY colonel?
Very cool! I also am a Kentucky colonel. I was commissioned about a year ago. I use the title pretty frequently. In fact, some of my students call me colonel.
The Open Road is a flat-brim, fedora-style western crossover hat while this one is supposed to be a full-fledged, yee-haw cowboy hat, so it's a bit of apples and oranges. Many thanks for the comment, and thank you, as well, for watching!
I saw it at a thrift store years ago and thought it looked cool, so I bought it. As an added bonus, it is remote controlled and even the ladder goes up and down.
Dorton Arena, Raleigh, NC had many a good beat down action back in the day. I like the hat, but as the say there are courses for horses, that horse is not for your course.
Remember my friend, "Silver Sand" is a common uniform color for numerous Sheriff's Office uniforms. So, a name like that let's me know, it'll match my uniform. Love your show, but some stuff like a color is important to people that aren't like you. BTW it looked good on you.
When you told me in a previous video's comment response that you had gotten one of the Buffalo Collection hats, I was really hoping you had gotten the Drifter (which is my everyday wear model). So I'm a bit bummed you got this one with it's goofy-looking rodeo brim. Having said that, I can tell you that a smaller brim is not a bad thing. I'm about your size and think my Drifter looks great in the mirror, and that the Seneca looked just fine on you aside from the brim being bent the wrong way. And as an Okie, I can anecdotally confirm that the smaller brim is functionally better when the wind comes sweeping down the plains. Thanks for the video, I look forward to the next one. P.S. Kerry & Kevin Von Erich > Ric Flair, whose only real talent was saying the word "woo".
When it’s hot, I usually wear my giant Stetson Rancher straw hat, which has a 5-inch crown and 4-inch brim. I want to feel like Big Enos Burdette when I wear a hat, not like Little Enos. I watched “The Iron Claw” movie about the Von Erichs last weekend and enjoyed it despite the historical inaccuracies. And, by the way, the Nature Boy is the greatest wrestler who ever lived, Chief.
Hi, i want a Seneca but I live in Canada and they dont ship here. Sad because i know some Stetson was made in Canada. I had one bought in Vancouver that i loved so much but it was too small so i stretched it in maximum which caused premature wear of the inside band and silk (I wear 7 1/2). For the girl in the picture, i think girl or boy clothe dont exist and you should not be embarassed of wearing fancy girly hat. If you love something and think is beautifull you should feel free to wear it! Anyway its nice to see it in a video, thank you!
I’m 5’10” / 170lbs and it looks small on me too. I have it in black. The pinch front makes your head look egg shaped and the crown looks very short from the rear view. This hat looks great on a woman but if you want something with a shorter brim and pinch front crown go with the Carson or the Dune if you’re a man. I ended up steaming open the crown and reshaping it along with the brim to look more like something an Australian crocodile hunter would wear.
Yeah, I'm pretty much screwed. I'm just going to keep my eyes open for any woman with a giant 7-3/4 size head like mine, and when I see her, I'll just say, "You don't know me, but here, ma'am, have a free Stetson hat..."
I keep them in the original Stetson boxes either in the top of my closet or under my bed. During fall and winter, the felt hats are in my closet while the straws are under the bed, and I switch them out during spring and summer.
The hat looks good on you, both you and the hat are classics. Definitely quality and most likely over priced. Then again looking good cost more. Are you to critical on yourself? Yes, great hat, great hat company, and yes large hats are hard to find. 7 7/8 for me.
Many thanks for watching. I'll probably be happier with it once I get the brim steamed flatter than it currently is. Other than the narrow brim and girly buckle set, it is a great looking hat.
Well, I like this hat because it isn’t full on cowboy and does mix a bit of “city feel” to it, but yes, the buckle is a bit feminine-looking on this hat. And that female model on the Stetson website? I love her! 😂😂😂
That hat looks good on you. I too am a big man, and worry about size and fit, however I never buy hats anymore. Disability and fixed income takes the fun out of life.
It's not a bad looking hat, but it is not as good looking as some of your others. The hat band color is great with the color of the hat, but the hat band is rather small. Look into the return policy. Thanks for the mini tour of the display case!
I returned the blue “Boss of the Plains” hat from a previous video to Stetson, and it wasn’t a great experience. They charged me a $10.00 return fee, and it took about three weeks for them to credit my account after I returned my hat. Stetson’s customer service is great when buying hats, but it’s the opposite when returning them.
Some folks have suggested it might look better if I get it steamed flatter. Hell, it couldn't hurt. Ain't like I'm going to lose weight just to make my hat look better. Thanks for watching.
It looks good on you, I am 6'1" as a young man I was 6'4"'s tall and played college football at 265 lbs but after school I grew to 300 lbs and am now 75 yrs old and 6'1"'s tall and 268 lbs so I am not small and like a 2.5-3" brim you look great wear it and smile when you realize the hat has not effected your wiener despite what those snowflakes in California think
They make hats stiff so they hold their shape. In fact, they make hat stiffener that you can spray on them if they start to get floppy and lose their shape. You can find hats that aren't stiff...but those ain't real "cowboy" hats. The Stetson Bozeman that I reviewed on my channel is a crushable wool hat that isn't stiff, and though it's an "outdoor hat," it can pass for a cowboy hat.
Well sir, I like that hat. It has some very nice lines to it. Now, I'm an old retired Texas peace officer, who spent ten years in the mounted unit, out of my 30 year career. I appreciate your sense of humor...particularly about the fact that merely crossing into state of California causes all products to cause cancer.
It’s a good looking hat and it looks just fine on you. Wear it with pride.
I am 5'11" 185 lbs and wear a 7 /12 hat. I get many compliments about this hat, I live in Boston and didn't want a cattleman style hat. This is a perfect blend of fedora, Aussie and cowboy hat.

That's why I don't order cowboy hats online, I have to try the hat on personally, I may be picky, but, my hat has to feel and look just right
As I get older, my childhood memories become more and more precious as well. Thank you for sharing them with us
Looks great on you! Just picked up this hat for myself. Love your channel, very good on camera.
Got a hacksaw jim duggen 2x4 signed. Love the memories
The hat actually looks great on you! I have the same hat.
I have the opposite problem. I look like Rick Moranis as dark helmet when I wear a cowboy hat.
Brother, I too share your love of wrestling and those same memories. Absolutely some of the most purely joyful times of my life. Make me smile see your collection. Love the videos.
Hat looks good. BTW--the traditional 'Seneca' territory happens to include the area including 'Buffalo' NY--see what Stetson did there? 😂
The hat looks okay to me. Keep the videos coming.👍
It looks fine, sir. I like it.
That's a good looking hat, love the buckle!
Good looking hat. I like a pinch front and tear drop crown. Growning up in Tampa FL I watched the same wrestlers you did, only a few years earlier. I just bought the same exact hat but I happen to be 5 foot 11 165 pounds so I figured for somebody roughly my size the hats gonna look perfect
Boy we were on a roll tonight there History Nerd. First of all the young lady modeling the hat was pretty nice in my book, you should have kept her picture up during your rant. Cheers!

Mrs. Nerd would disagree about listening to me talk, but many thanks for the kind words.
It looks pretty good, definitely not your norm but i wouldnt count it out.
As always enjoyed your video!!
Cheers, beers and whiskey 🤠 🥃

Glad you enjoyed, and many thanks for watching, Bubba.
A three and a half brim seems just about right to me
Hello from Puerto Rico. Abdullah the butcher fight in PR too.
I am glad it was not blue! That Seneca is a good looking hat OI wear hats but Fedoras and Panamas are my style Stetson one called skylines I like
I think you look great in the hat. I have one. But size 7. Big guy too.
Go have a Glen Cairn of EH Taylor small batch or single barrel or some Wellers 107 and smile and enjoy that great looking hat
I have a Cantaloupe head and have that hat. I wear it everyday and look great with that hat.
Love you're videos Im going to order me one of them Stetson Senaca hat i think it will look good on me im 5'9. 190 lbs
it looks good... I think it's more that, you make that hat look good!
Loved the wrestling history!
I agree with you on the buckle on the band. Now the color looks tan, but who knows. lol. Thank you for the information! I do like the hat and love your humor.
Thanks for watching, and thanks, as well, for the kind words.
As a kid I remember watching black and white midget wrestling then right after came women’s roller derby. Great memories!! 🤠
This was one of my first hats. I actually reshaped the brim a bit.
Love your videos. Greetings from Germany.
In the words of the great Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton, "Danke schoen."
I just doubled your viewership 😂, I’m a history nerd also
That is a good locking hat. But you are right, the brim is too small for you.
What was in Box #2? (1/2) Always enjoy your Southern take on hats. My go to is a Stetson 10X chocolate with a trimmed brim. Had it before John Dutton made them fashionable.

@historynerdsmancave7567 you're so awesome and thank you for your history lessons I'm 23 and I love history so glad I found your channel
Looks good on you!
Looks good man
I like the hat. Take it in and get the brim reshaped flatter, pulled down in front and back and i think you will like it better. Great video
I may just do that. They are building a Cavender's in my area, so I won't have to drive all over hell's half-acre to get my hats shaped anymore. Thanks for the suggestion, and thanks, too, for watching.
Great looking hat. I think you read a bunch of stuff into the description. Stop worrying and enjoy your new hat.
Well, the Seneca-Cayuga people live in Oklahoma if that helps.
So does water resistant mean it can be worn in the rain like a palm straw?
That's a nice hat, and it looks good on you. I have the Drifter which is also in the Buffalo Collection. I want to reshape the brim to make it curl up more on the sides. I do have a Jiffy Steamer and stiffener. Do you think wool hats can be reshaped?
Other commenters have said they’ve reshaped theirs, and I don’t see why you couldn’t. Felt is felt whether wool or fur. Thanks for watching.
Been enjoying all your vids. Have you checked out any akubras. Riverina rough rider… would love to get your opinion

Love your videos! 🤠 why do you buy Stetson hats?
Before you said Rick Flair it literally sounded like you were just talking about some fictional wrestling universe I've never heard of.
Great vid. I was also eyeing the Seneca but might just pass. Ever think of trying Larry Mahan/Milano hats?
My late father wore only Stetsons, so I wear only Stetsons, but I think Stetson and the brands you mentioned are all owned by the same company. Thanks for watching!

I like.. I have a 3 1/5 brim hat that gets worn. I am 6'3'' 300 lbs.. :)
Looks great on big guys like us, but you've got to have some swagger to pull it off, as well.
the hat looks kinda good in you actually, not small enough to look bad
Wear whatever hat you like. How do you store your cowboy hats?
I store them in their original Stetson boxes in the top of my closet and under my bed. During fall and winter, the felt hats are in my closet, and the straw hats are under the bed, and I reverse them during spring and summer.
Looks good
Cowboy hats may be hard to acquire in Germany...but you certainly seem to be doing a good job getting them. Stetsons certainly look snappier than those Bavarian alpine hats in Germany. Thanks for watching all the way from Europe, Chief.
Wow, looks like you could open your own store in Germany, you do love hats.
Big-Headed Bastards of the World Unite! I've heard a lot of good things about Akubra...but I only wear Stetsons.
I am, in fact, a Kentucky Colonel by appointment of Gov. Paul Patton, but try as I might, I cannot get Mrs. Nerd to refer to me as "Colonel."
Very cool! I also am a Kentucky colonel. I was commissioned about a year ago. I use the title pretty frequently. In fact, some of my students call me colonel.
That's the style of hat I usually wear.
I was born and raised in New York City and never even knew there was an upstate!
@History Nerd's Man Cave enjoy your content. let us know what watch you're wearing next time
You own an open road hat that looks good on you and the brim is 2 3/4 which is smaller than this brim?
The Open Road is a flat-brim, fedora-style western crossover hat while this one is supposed to be a full-fledged, yee-haw cowboy hat, so it's a bit of apples and oranges. Many thanks for the comment, and thank you, as well, for watching!
Any story behind the little fire truck? I’m currently in fire academy and I’m hoping to work in the fire service in the near future!
I saw it at a thrift store years ago and thought it looked cool, so I bought it. As an added bonus, it is remote controlled and even the ladder goes up and down.
I have a Seneca. My favorite day to day hat.
I think it looks great on you. I don’t think it is small on you.
Dorton Arena, Raleigh, NC had many a good beat down action back in the day.
I like the hat, but as the say there are courses for horses, that horse is not for your course.
I like it, looks good!
@@historynerdsmancave7567 I had to double-check to confirm, and I was right: Little Enos wore the bigger hat!
I liked the hat, it looked good on you. By the way, Von Erich’s rule!
How do you store all of your hats? Luv my Stetsons...
I keep them in the original Stetson boxes either in the top of my closet or under my bed. During fall and winter, the felt hats are in my closet while the straws are under the bed, and I switch them out during spring and summer.
Thanks for the quick reply@@historynerdsmancave7567
The hat looks good on you, both you and the hat are classics. Definitely quality and most likely over priced. Then again looking good cost more. Are you to critical on yourself? Yes, great hat, great hat company, and yes large hats are hard to find. 7 7/8 for me.
Well like you I grew up watching Portland wrestling guys like Billy jack hanes Dutch savage and so on the hat is to small on the brim
I too am a girthy dude. 4” brim minimum.
I have a Stetson Seneca and i love it and I wear a 7 3/4 hat. If my daddy had a big head like me he would probably steal it ha.
If you don’t have a horse. What hat are you allowed to wear?
I actually think it looks great on you. You’ll have to decide what you think though.
Many thanks for watching. I'll probably be happier with it once I get the brim steamed flatter than it currently is. Other than the narrow brim and girly buckle set, it is a great looking hat.
I think it looks rad on you, my man. Just my opinion.
I think you look good in that hat !!!!
Looks Great
My friend, I hate to say it but the brim does look a little small for such a robust person. 👍
Some folks have suggested it might look better if I get it steamed flatter. Hell, it couldn't hurt. Ain't like I'm going to lose weight just to make my hat look better. Thanks for watching.
Always kinda wanted a seneca
Doesn't look bad!!!
Why do they make cowboy hats so stiff?
They make hats stiff so they hold their shape. In fact, they make hat stiffener that you can spray on them if they start to get floppy and lose their shape. You can find hats that aren't stiff...but those ain't real "cowboy" hats. The Stetson Bozeman that I reviewed on my channel is a crushable wool hat that isn't stiff, and though it's an "outdoor hat," it can pass for a cowboy hat.
"Newsflash" most people who wear cowboy attire do not ride horses, live on a ranch or farm.
