    The Casio Duro MDV-106 is the best entry-level beater watch I've ever owned and experienced. It just refused to ever fail or break on me. It's a very reliable watch and worthy of some praise with a review through my own personal 8-year experience with it.

    Im in the military and got one of these to be a “beater” because if i busted it, its only 40 bucks, but i honestly cant break the damn thing and it still holds time within like 10 seconds a month, just insane.

      This is such a key review/testimonial, brother. Your experience with the watch is similar but mostly more extreme than mine, I'm sure! The build quality is insane and as you said, the accuracy, as well. The price point is just too good to top it off. Really appreciate your insights, Jonathan. And more importantly, I appreciate your service as well as taking the time to watch the video. Stay safe, my friend!

    As a Physician with rather high-end watch collection, the Casio Duro is STILL the very best bang-4-the-buck dive & quintessential tool watch. It's truly an economical budget dive watch treasure. On every scuba adventure, this goes with us, (& has never failed) while the far more pricey mechanical dive watches stay safely at home away from corrosive, salty, deep sea water. The vast majority of investment grade dive watches don't ever get close to the water & are treated like desk-divers. Back when I bought the Duro, the cost was only $25 & yet it's more enjoyable to wear than many other more pricy pieces. Sometimes, people collect in reverse...I started with the expensive, but now enjoy more beater types like this Duro that are truly rugged tool watches that don't need to be "safe queens". People should NEVER go into debt for this hobby, simply collect what you enjoy and can easily afford. Suppose that in a way, I got the investment grade high-end out of my system early on & now have much more fun collecting tough watches that don't need to be as carefully cared for. Cheers to you all! 🍻🍺🍺🍻🍺🍺

  • @glen193

    Older review, but I will add that after several experiences with a citizen eco drive Pro Master, I've found this particular model to be (IMO) actually better. Granted, the eco drive touts years of service without a battery swap, I'm particular impressed with how the duro seconds hand strikes all the minute marks. IOW, I can deal with a battery swap over a couple of years given the price vs this and the few pro masters I've experienced- which have not hit the marks.
    I generally spend most of my time (eh, hem) with automatics, but always try to keep a quartz/solar model for a grab and go. This is the best one I've found so far.
    It is the best work watch I've ever owned. As a military vet, I've spent some time with several G-shocks, as well, and while certainly tough watches, in those kind of environments I'm partial to simplicity. I wish this watch had been available when I served, bc this would have been perfect for me. Grant it, it's not the perfect watch. But the damn thing is hard to kill. It's simple to operate, and keeps amazingly accurate time esp given its price point.
    From my perspective, drop this thing to a 40mm, increase the dial hour markers by 50%, increase the size of the date to something readable, and tack on some decent seiko- like lume, saphire, and this this thing becomes an untouchable legendary military tool that no other watch maker has ever produced to my knowledge.
    Although, it's true, I can't bitch too much about a pretty impressive $50 watch, I would pay double - even triple - for the aforementioned improvements.
    But, Casio, if you're listening, I don't know if you realize just how close you are to perfection with this watch.

    • @ModernRegimen
      @ModernRegimen  Год назад +1

      I'm SO with you on downsizing. I just don't understand why Casio doesn't realize that a sub-40mm version would sell like hot cakes. So many watch enthusiasts admire the sizing of "vintage" watches and it really isn't rocket science to know this when you browse watch forums and youtube comments. Thanks so much for the insights and sharing your experience, my friend. Truly invaluable!

    I have the blue version of the Duro MDV-106. It is taking a beating like crazy, and holding up perfectly. I did replace the mineral crystal on mine with a blue tinted sapphire crystal. It brought the watch to a whole new level. I am also using a black / blue stitched canvas band on it, all of which are keeping the price sub $100USD. It has become my absolute favorite watch of all time! Great video!

      Hi . The model number for the Casio tough solar is S810W-AVEF. I’ve used this watch at work a hell of a lot too . The things I like are obviously no battery , really clear display and it’s so lightweight on the wrist . When I wear it , you forget it’s on your wrist ! I’ve had this watch for four years now . The amount of tine I’ve worn it , still looks in good condition. To me it’s worth every penny . I like the style and pedigree of my marlin but I’ve been wearing my tough solar every day at work for last three months . I would recommend this watch to anyone , don’t be put off how lightweight it feels , these are watches built to last 😊

    Absolute beast of a watch. I swop out the Nato daily,(I have 12), goes with anything. Also have a 22mm Engineer bracelet if I’m going anywhere special. Looking over from distance someone mistook it for a GMT and had to come ask me. I’ve gotten rid of / sold All my upper tier automatics and stick to this now. This watch is well named, “duro” meaning HARD,... Durable. I’ve taken down walls wearing this thing. It’s a mans watch and like the man said, hits the markers, and will not let you down. Mine actually gains about two seconds a month, so a quick hack and i’m right back on point. I’ve an eight inch wrist, so it sits perfect, and all i’m going to do is get my hands on the all blue one, put the bracelet on that one for best, and that’s it. Best money you’ll EVER spend.

      SlapShotRegatta I’m on your side of the fence, brother, in regards to case diameter. There’s a large swell of people who want this watch but absolutely can’t wear it due to its size. Which is the reason why I cherish my SKX013 so much. A 38-40mm version would pad their pockets ($$$) nicely if they can cater to the sub-40mm watch seekers. And yes this watch is the epitome of Value-For-Money. Appreciate that insight, my friend. Glad you stopped by. 🤜🤛

    I also gave my beloved Duro to a friend. I just bought my Seiko SKX013 and my buddy has huge wrists so I gave it to him. If it was 40mm it would be perfect. It's rugged and the design is beautiful. The red second hand and the marlin are brilliant touches. You have some fantastic straps on yours. One of the things I love about watches is that sometimes the best ones aren't expensive, and the Duro is one of the best. Bill Gates wears one, and he's a smart guy. To answer your question, no, I don't know any other $40 to $50 dive watch contenders. The Duro is the best, although the G-Shock DW5600 has 200 meter water resistance and is just as durable. In my humble opinion, those are two of the best watches in the world!

    • @ModernRegimen

      Man, you actually nailed a point that I wanted to make in the video. If Casio made a more mid-sized version at 40mm, they would fly off the shelves! I agree with you 1000%. And yes, the DW5600 is comparable but in digital form. As far as analog divers go, I think we do in fact have a top dog with the Casio Duro. Thanks for chiming in again, brother Steve! P.s. Steve Sandwich Productions Yeah, I also am on the same boat with the new “5KX”. My bias comes from already having experienced ownership of an actual SKX. Nice review. I'm looking for a blue variant. Also love leather straps. I was interested in Orient or Seiko "submariners" but the automatic caliber is way more expensive. I think it's nice to have a dive watch and a rotating bezel in my "collection" (if I can call that way). Still, here in Brazil it costs the equivalent to $150. Everything is so expensive now, but I still love them, and I want to keep them. Patience.

      @rafaelvital8281 Год назад +1

      @@ModernRegimen I prefer smaller cases. Feels better to wear a more subtle timepiece. Also fits better with almost any clothing. 44mm diameter is too much for me, 40mm for a diver would be great. However, I still would like to wear a 38mm.
      Automatic or quartz calibers don't impact too much in case diameter. Usually quartz watches are thinner and lighter, but they can have the same diameter.

    Why do people call the Duro "marlin"? That's obviously not a Marlin. It's a sailfish. The Marlin's dorsal fin peaks just above its head and tapers down drastically from there. The sailfish is what's portrayed on the front and back of the Duro. Don't take my word for it, just search "marlin vs sailfish" and find out for yourself.

    The current price point is closer to $60-70 when you can even find it. I had one and my two biggest gripes were that the crown is real hard to screw down and the lumes on this stink. I loved the blue one. I found it to be very stylish but couldn't get past the crown and lumes. And NO I didn't expect 100% perfection at a $60 price point/

      Hm.. interesting. I’m from Los Angeles and the Amazon price here is $46 so it’s definitely a regional different I guess. Yeah, for me the lack of lume made me lust for other divers. Is lume really that expensive? 🤣 Appreciate your views, bro. 🤜🤛

      Yes the bezel should rotate. You either have a defective watch or a counterfeit, if that is even a thing. The bezel should definitely serve as utility and not just a cosmetic design. I would return it and get a new one.

    This is the ULTIMATE best value watch that everyone should own. It is the "VW Beetle of Watches." It looks good, it is well built, and it keeps time flawlessly. There is something wonderful about buying a great watch for pocket change. A watch you don't have to insure, or worry about losing or getting stolen. A watch you can wear every day and not sit in your drawer or safe because it is "too valuable to risk." And.... as an added bonus, it keeps better time than my Rolex or Omega, and you can buy one without getting prior approval from your banker or your wife.
    I currently own two of them, a blue one and a green one, and I will probably end up with a few more. And I put stainless steel bracelets on both, raising my investment in them from $50 to $65 each.

    How did you scratch your back case if you wear it as a beater watch? 🤔🤔🤔

    • @ModernRegimen
      @ModernRegimen  4 года назад +1

      Reywel Marquez Various ways throughout the years. 1) Had a spring bar fail on me. 2) When on long hikes, I take it off to dry the sweat and instead of grabbing it by the case I grab the strap instead and it slides across the surface. 3) Dropping the watch.
      As I mentioned, I didn’t care about the watch’s “health” after a while. I just don’t baby my watches. It’s not that hard, to scratch metal.

    • @ModernRegimen
      @ModernRegimen  4 года назад +2

      If there’s any way possible, I suggest trying on any 43mm diver at a store and it will give you an idea. Another thing to take into account is the 48mm lug to lug. My wrist is a little over 6 inches and by the end of my time with it, I felt it was a tad large for my wrist profile. That said, it’s such a good watch in terms of specs for the price. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts, Yaseen. 🤜🤛

    Can you, the person reading this, tell me of a better EDC, analog, tool watch as well built as this one for $300 or under?. Not any "sapphire" or "ceramic bezel" bs. A solid, well built analog wristwatch.
