Sir, you are an absolute legend. This video was fantastic and easy to follow. Quality of production is perfect. Made life so much easier! Thank you!
My sincere thanks for that in depth connectors removal walkthrough. Couldn't figure out how to remove that last one and you saved my day.
Glad you got it done!
My sincere compliments on an excellent DIY for S55 DME removal and replacement. This is truly one of the best DIY videos that I've ever watched, and I've watched many. This video should be the go-to reference for this procedure. Thank you.
Talk about detail, effort here and commitment. My hat off to you
Thank you for documenting this, made the process substantially easier...
super informative as always!! keep it up !!
Thank you for this super tutorial!
Very nice video. You did great capturing good clean video and audio. Nailed all the details of the process quickly too. I’d have to say that this video was a hidden gem 💎 for me. I had been looking for a week for a intake manifold/plenum video. I have to put everything back together and I didn’t make these top end disconnections or removals. I did pull the engine and transmission for a rebuild. Needed to see this. What goes over, under, and on the manifold. Took a ton of pictures. Thank you for the torque specs and for giving the complete process of putting it back in too.
Best video hands down , I did everything step by step changed manifold , dme and throttle body save me $3k lol 😂 that’s what bmw wanted lol took me 3 hrs great video I’m not a mechanic lol 💯💯💯💯💯💯
Congrats on the job and saving so much $!
Great tutorial. Thanks for taking the trouble to make it.
awesome guide.
Thank you for the details
Thank you from italy!
Thank you for the tutorial. Was there any gunk in the intake or the intake valves?
I just removed my DME in 30 min, perfect tutorial.
Thanks
One question : i did not unplug the battery in the trunk, is it a problem ??
Did you have any problems not unpluging your battery?
ahha that shirt is A+
As a locksmith, I have to access DME all the time. Can you tell me what years this particular procedure might cover? What year is this vehicle in the video? I've been fortunate in that MOST DME have been located where I can access them without major work. Also, it helps that I can plug into most of them without removing them.
Did you have any issues with mileage not matching between various computers on the car? Did you have to sync anything that I've heard has to happen for any sort of odometer tampering to go away? Lastly, I didn't watch the full thing, but that looked fairly involved to swap DME, how many hours?
I didn't have any issues with mileage in the DME not matching. It sync'd right up automatically after reading it from either the cluster or FEM the first time I turned it on.
It took me quite a few hours for this video because of filming every step. Without that I can probably get a complete swap done in 3hrs.
It all depends how the spare DME was programmed and made for the car more than anything. There are tons of parameters that should be adapted to the car. The biggest mistake that some people do (for any BMW) is to swap in a DME, FEM/CAS, and key set from another car.
Assuming it would be a great time to do plugs as well with this off?
Anytime you can bundle overlapping work is a good time!
Curious how many miles on your car and how your intake valves looked? Just wondering if there was much carbon build up yet.
Oops, didn’t realize it’s a 2021. I’d assume it has very little build up being that new.
Buildup in a direct injected car is highly dependent on how you drive the car. Drive it hard more often and it will stay a lot cleaner.
@@derekhanson4215 Haha, yeah I don't have very many miles on it (a hair under 4k).
I have a totally unrelated question… after ICM and DSC/ABS hydraulic unit replacement, is it required to VO code DME module ? Thanks 😊
You shouldn't have to VO code anything if swapping in a replacement DSC/ABS unit. Nothing on the VO (vehicle config) changed. If you're adding a different ABS/DSC module that somehow has a different function than your original car, maybe you'd VO code that, but I haven't heard of that.
@@FaRKle0079 yes, in my case, I have replaced DCC with ACC option. VO coded FEM, DSC, ICM and couple of other ones but not DME. All modules show green but I feel like there is brake drag which is more evident while going up hill.
@@freespiritbmw8147 I guess you could try recoding the DME FDL, I don't know what in there would be linked to ACC though.
Can’t get that connector on the dme at the very back. For me to slide the lock out the way I need to be able to grab it from both sides and I have no space to put my fingers down there. Idk how to get it out pls help.
Use a right angle pick or flat head screw driver to try and pry on each side/tab of the slide lock. You'll have to work on each side a little at a time... Once you crack the slide lock open a bit, it's much easier, but the whole thing isn't easy for sure.
Do you have any form of social media or ways to be contacted? I'm interested in learning to bench unlocking and possibly know the ups and downs doing this.
You can reach me on IG at farkle_tech.
Should i drain the water first before removing the intercooler?
Thank you.
There's no need to disconnect the intercooler and drain it. The hoses on it have enough flex for you to position it out of the way.
Interested in doing the same, can you elaborate more on the process of unlocking?
Essentially you get a pre-6/2020 DME, bench unlock it, clone it to your car, and swap it in. My friend was able to source some more DMEs and can do it for you (he's sold a few others since).
@@FaRKle0079 thank you for the info. Could you put me in touch with him?
@@DriftKr6l What's your email? I'll reach out to you there to explain the process in more detail.
Did have to unplug the battery to start this work?
It's not necessary to do that.
How do you know if it’s necessary to bench unlock the DME
If it's 2018+ it should need a bench unlock.
@@FaRKle0079 I got the MHD wifi adapter in the mail and got a message that I need a bench unlock but that same message has a disclaimer on it saying that if it was unlocked to ignore the message.
If I try to flash it and turns out the DME was locked am I gonna brick the ECU?😂
@@ssanchez07605 You won't brick the ECU. The DME lock prevents unofficial MHD data from being loaded.
Guys ... Disconnect the battery before, because while removing my intake manifold, my DME touched briefly a metal surface under tension and an electric arc flashed, I don't know yet if there will have consequences ... Hope not
Still great video really helped me thank for your time
Yikes. That engine looks like a nightmare to work on.
