I Tuned My 2021 BMW M2 Competition!

- Up until very recently there was no way to unlock and tune our BMWs with MEVD17.2.G DMEs due to Bosch's bootloader change in mid-2020. A very intelligent friend of mine figured out instead how to make a spare DME that was produced before the new bootloader was introduced work on my vehicle and also applied his tune to it!

Some awesome creativity! Congrats!
Very smart approach wish that was around before I unlocked mine, can't wait to see what you do next or how far your going to take it
Love your vids man thanks so much

Great video mate
Looking forward to hearing your Amsoil Product Results on the wagon! 😉
I'm finally getting close to that oil change point! About 1500mi out.
I so happy there is a tuning solution; perhaps a 2022 Supra is not a bad purchase now? 🤔
Fantastic video!! Really pleased you have been able to prove this theory👌🏻 I’m in exactly the same boat 2020 M2C with locked ECU 😢 can an older ECU out of an M3 or M4 (F8X) be used? Or does it have to be an M2C ECU? I assume the ECU’s are the same?
You can use older M3/4 DMEs, but there's more data in there that needs to be converted to match how the M2C's data is structured.
Hey Andrew - your DME videos are extremely helpful. My car rolled out of production in early June 2020.. what do you think are the chances I have this new locked DME? Is there an easy way to find out what model DME I'm stuffed with?
If you have BMW diagnostic tools (ISTA, INPA, Tool32) you can see when your DME's production date is. That would probably be the easiest way to see.
If you don't have those, but have a windows laptop and OBD2 to ethernet cable I can help you remotely to see.
@FaRKle0079 what do you think about bm3 and mhd? Although you chose another tuner, it would very interesting to know your expert opinion
You can absolutely use those with an unlocked DME. I wanted something where I could set my CALID/CVN, flash date, and flash counter to stock though.
Hey Andrew, glad you got it working, there’s plenty of S55 guys post-2020 who can’t tune their cars so this is a welcome development. Just out of curiosity, which tune are you running?
(I’m sure you’ve noticed the significant power capabilities of this engine and how neutered it is as stock!)
The tune I have was developed by the friend that did the unlock for me. It actually follows the G80 Comp power curve pretty well from the dynos of that I've seen.
@@FaRKle0079 definitely some good tunes out there and it’s very interesting to experiment once the DME is unlocked.
@@FaRKle0079 why G80C? Different engine... why not F80C, which is F87CS?
@@nessuno5403 F80 power curve is more notorious for kicking the rear end out too easily down low. One of the things that reviewers have praised about the G80 is the more drivable power curve.
I need to do a bench unlock on my DME (2019 m2 comp). Any idea where I can get a wiring harness connector for my DME?
So... if you set a DME to unlock 2021 model. and something happens where it needs warranty work. Will swapping back to the original act like it did not happen?
You can swap back to the original DME anytime and the dealership should be none the wiser. That said, depending on who builds your unlocked DME they can make it undetectable at the dealer level.
What is that seatbelt holder that I see around 6:25?! I need it.
Wow, sharp eye to notice that! I actually made them myself. I have a few more sets if you're interested in buying some.
Where can i find cmd flashtec link, cant seem to find anyway. Good job on tune
Just google them and you'll find their website.
Can you look up the calid with ista?
Unfortunately not. You can look for, "Mike's easy BMW tools" package to download which contains Tool32. Then once hooked up to the car open the S55.prg job, and look for the CALID CVN lesen command to read it out.
Have you through about the crank hub fix now that you have more power to the wheels? Thoughts on that?
I considered it when deciding what kind of tune I wanted. We limited the tune's torque to a level we think should be safe without having to do any crank hub modifications.
@@FaRKle0079 what's a safe level? F87 CS tune?
@@nessuno5403
Are you able to flash tune your dme through obd2 after you do this?
Yup.
Hi Farkle, I would like to do the cloned unlock ECU for my M2CS. How can I contact you? Pls let me know.
Hi! It sounds like you might already be in contact with my friend "Enabled" about this.😀
Hey, I’m looking to get my DME cloned, is the service still available?
Yes, we still offer this service, although we also have the capability to unlock 6/2020 and later S55 DMEs now too! Save yourself some $ and just do that! You can email me at farkle0079@gmail.com if you'd like to set that up.
I guess I don’t totally get it. Even with this method you’d still need to take out your DME to swap it with the eBay one, right? Is the main thing you avoid needing to *ship* the DME somewhere (and instead you ship the FEM)
Yes, the only way to get an unlocked DME is to swap it with an unlocked one. It's much easier to remove a FEM and ship it to have the ISN read than to do it with a DME.
Is the person doing the reprogramming still open for another dme cloning? If so can you please share this info. Also is there a certain dme that I should be searching for on Ebay?Any dme that is before June 2020? I am serious in having this done.
Very creative solution but for 480hp it’s not worth the extreme hassle of pulling the DME when a JB4 piggyback tune will give you the same numbers for a fraction of the effort.
This is true, but this can be updated and flashed (via OBD, locally or remotely) to do a lot more, if he wishes, since it's a custom flash. It's on a conservative tune intentionally.
Hello Andrew, Are there any of these unlocked DME still available?
Yes, there is one DME available right now that my friend recently acquired.
Great, How may I contact you about it?
@@philipmartini if you have Instagram you can DM me at farkle_tech.
So I assume you had to find a 'fresh' DME? Not like a used one right?
I bought a used DME off of eBay, not fresh. Unlike the CMD Flashtec bench flash tool (which nobody in North America has yet), there are plenty of existing bench flash tools for pre-6/2020 DMEs that can write all of the necessary data to the replacement used DME.
@@FaRKle0079 interesting, i tried this on my Supra last year but no one seemed to be able to write the information I needed, could be a lack of tools for b58 dme (mg1) at the time
@@realMysta Yeah, MG1 support is far less than MEVD172G. That said, if the tools exist (there should be some), then grabbing an MG1 DME (like from a 2019 Supra) that people were able to bench unlock and doing the same method as I did would likely work. The tuner would need to know what they're doing (I left a lot of fine details out), but should be able to figure it out.
Did you replace your crankhub already?
Nope, I haven't. The tune is torque limited to a reasonable level to try to avoid any issues with that.
@@FaRKle0079 dude you gotta do that.
@@lixiang7349 I'm not running that high power/torque, which is why I'm not too worried. I have a CBC, which I'll put on one day... haha
im still waiting for obd unlock....
That'd be nice! Not even CMD Flastec's solution does that though.
Can I know the price , I’d interesting it.
What's your email? I can email you about it.
I’m interested. Can I have some info to contact your friend
What's your email? I can talk to you about the details there.
Are you not afraid of the crank hub spinning?
I'm not really worried about it. This tune limits the torque to a reasonable level.
@@FaRKle0079 alright. memyself is terrified of tunes. will wait for warrenty to run out and then give it a mild go. Probably a bootmod3 map. Soft on the torque aswell.
@@adamtrokich8605 go M2 CS
@@nessuno5403 already have a comp. Dont wanna give 30$k to BMW. BUT if I had to buy new bmw today it would be M2 cs. Probably. Or cayman gt4
@@adamtrokich8605 no, you misunderstood. Go M2 CS / M4C tune if you have S55 hub concerns
