I always thought the texts for the middle ending and the worst ending should have been switched. The worst ending says that the curse has been lifted although Simon didn't make it, but the second half of the middle ending implies that the curse still lingers among Transylvania, which the black-and-white color in the worst ending would better illustrate. Also, "Simon couldn't survive his fatal wounds" would explain why he's not at the grave in the worst ending.
@@freshestbreath I know this comment is about 5 years old now, but this isn't actually true. The JP endings are the same as the western version endings, the only difference being some engrish and generally wrong grammar. Otherwise, it's the exact same.
By the sound of the third ending Belmont defeated Dracula and stopped him from coming back ever again but resulting in his death. While the first showed that Belmont defeated Dracula but Dracula will come back and the second ending basically showing that the world is doomed cause Belmont didn't put Dracula down permently and died from his wounds.
Funny enough, the next game on the timeline after this is Harmony Of Dissonance, which Juste Belmont effectively repeats Simon's efforts to collect all of Dracula's remains.
Simon's Quest takes place during 1698, seven years after Simon's first battle with Dracula. The years on the tombstone are almost the same as the real-life years of birth and death of Vlad III Tepes but -75 incorrectly foreshadows that Dracula was killed by Trevor Belmont (during Castlevania III, the next game after Simon's Quest, which took place during 1476, the more likely year of the real Vlad's death).
i agree, the castlevania-format of endings( "the bad end is always closer to the best end than the normal end") doesnt make sence at all in this case xD at least, there is a new hero mentioned in the bad ending,so its not a complete failure
He was a comedian who hosted the UK version of Family Feud. (Family Fortunes) For some bizarre reason, later on in the show's life, (When Monkhouse was no longer the presenter) someone answered the questioned, "Name something a vampire is scared of." with "Bob Monkhouse", which Lub Lub believes would make him the perfect Castlevania protagonist.
sorry, but I have to disagree the draining of the colour as well as the removement of Simon may be effective, I'll give you that one any day, but with a message like this, it feels better than the normal ending and yes, I'm aware of the theory, that the creators may have accidentaly swapped the text from the 2 endings, but whatever the case, I prefer the bad over the normal ending any day
Nice work buddy! I really enjoyed the "creepy bad endings" series, I hope to see many new entries as there is plenty of creepy bad endings out there!! As a veteran videogame player, I'd like to suggest you a game that features a creepy bad ending that will (not) disappoint you (despite the absence of a true backstory): "Flood" for the Amiga (Bullfrog, 1990). It has just one ending.. but I won't spoil it, see for yourself! continue..
Just found this series and I'm watching all of them. Speaking of soul crushing endings, I can only hope 999 and Suikoden II are somewhere on this list.
excellent work with thease vids sah, i really like how you talk about gameplay, and basicaly give a tutorial on how to get each ending in the games! please, do continue making thease, and while its great getting a glimpse of all thease wonderfull, old games, please, dont shy away from some of the newer ones! perhaps Dragon age (the first one) would be a good one to have a look at, considering the many different endings based on how you deal with each tier of the game
one has fallen while the other lives you cannot kill the shadows for it consumes all of us *gets up from the explosion and looks down at your dead body* "you have met with a terrible fate"
Great. By the way, you're welcome to use my new Strahl video as source material for this series, if you're interested in it for the way players are shown an arbitrarily harsh fate just for losing most of their lives on a quest that was otherwise completed the exact same way. I think your text-overlay editorials would be a good fit for Strahl's still-image-with-voiceover endings, too.
Your game must have glitched or something? In the best ending, when it turns night, and the grave shakes, Dracula's hand emerges from the mound of earth. It didn't happen here. Weird!
Although the worst ending has better words keep in mind that the grave is still open and that there is no hope this shows by the darkness so that dracula has taken over. But in the bad ending we learn that hope is with a young man. So the bad is still better from the worst. Ps. I miss this series :(
I don't know if it's true, but I've heard rumours about these incompeten translators made a mistake, and swapped the text in the 2 bad endings anyways, I still think that the bad ending is more satisfying than the 2nd, because it lets you know, that the world will always remember you plus I'd rather die in that battle, than finding out a little while later, that it was all in vain
It's possible that they put the wrong text for the normal ending and worst ending. Even if they didn't, though, I can imagine the game is being ironic by calling Simon a great hero, even though he died.
3:38 As opposed to the narrator who can't put a simple sentence to end... 4:22 Thanks, Simon! I'm growing turnips in your blood-and-sweat-soaked soil and it brings me immense happiness! My only complaint is that I don't feel induced by magic. Maybe I should try growing potatoes...
it just occured to me, what if the worst ending is actually simon dying before he gets to collect all the relics and fight Dracula? it makes the most sense given the context of the story, but it's probably still better than if he revived Dracula and then died to him, then again the game doesn't end at 16 days...
There is a MOD of Castlevania II out there, made by a guy called "TheAlmightyGuru", which fixes up some of the problems of the gameplay. The story is pretty dang good I have to admit.
Actually, notice the fact that Dracula's grave is raised in the 3rd ending, like near the end of the first one. I think the ending is actually slightly sarcastic, when you consider the movement in Dracula's grave in the first. Albeit, it's not overly noticeable, but plausible and probably a shoddy job localizing the game.
You did another game called castlevania: harmony of dissonance, which is similar to this. In this one you collect 5 remains, the other you had to collect six, I guess one of the remains split into two? Or it's just different that way...
ironically, I find the "worst" ending to be better than the "normal" ending. mainly because it says that Dracula is dead forever, and will NEVER be resurrected. I'm sure Simon would be glad to have made that sacrifice to ensure humanity's salvation for all time. Might even be arguably better than the "good" ending depending on your PoV
So what I took from the endings was the second one was the worst because he failed to stop the curse, the 1st/ less than 8 days ending is the next worst because Dracula is still alive, and the worst ending is the best where the deed is done and nothing is there to imply that Simon is dead other than the picture, but the other pictures don’t make sense either.
...Just a side note on Castlevania II's ending: don't you think it's strange that a heretic and blasphemous creature like Dracula ends up having his own Christian tomb? Anyway, keep up the good work! ;)
Welp, since everyone is suggesting games for bad ends, how about Disgaea 2? In a game that, despite starring demons as it's main cast, isn't all that dark, the bad end (which, thankfully, you actually have to be trying to get) involves the main character getting possessed and killing and eating his siblings- this is told entirely through dialogue and sound, not descriptions. The screen is black when this happens. In the English version of the game, the sound for him eating them actually sounds
I can't help but think that they messed up with the text of the endings and put them in the wrong endings. More specifically, that the text of Endings 2 and 3 switch with each other? What does everyone else think about the ending's text being in the wrong places? Do you think that the text was put in the right endings, or should they have been put in the different endings of the game?
Aquasition1 i actually think that not only the messages are messed up but also the sort of ending i think that the neutral ending is the good ending but with the text of the bad ending or the good ending instead of the "you are dead bro" text of the neutral ending and that the good ending is the neutral.ending, because in the good ending the sun seems to.be "falling" whilst in the neutral ending the sun is still up and then the bad ending could be the night
Correct, but who says hes talking about the first fear? He could be talking about clock tower USA as its called by fans, which is a sequel to the first fear( the game you talked about) In fact, hes not really exaggerating. Just look up the endings for Clock tower USA. You'll see what he means. P.S You can play as 2 characters in clock tower USA in case your confused.
Why would Belmont be bowing down before the grave of the person who has tried to destroy his life he should have burned him and left him with No Grave marker I'm confused

What a nice enemy Simon is, to make Dracula a grave.
But, who makes the grave for Dracula in the worst ending?
@@gravity8120 simons father
@@gravity8120 Perhaps it was made at Simon's request shortly before his death?
Dracula
@@gravity8120 Trevor? Because the grave has the death in 1479 if i am not wrong this was the year where C3 events took place

That's because they were switched by mistake in the US translation.
The japanese version has the normal and bad ending texts switched.
It seems that even the Japanese version made that mistake too.
legendsoflocalization.com/did-castlevania-iis-endings-get-mixed-up/
So basically, the 2nd ending isn't even that bad in the end.
Almost better than the 1st one, since Dracula doesn't stir in his grave.
@@freshestbreath I know this comment is about 5 years old now, but this isn't actually true. The JP endings are the same as the western version endings, the only difference being some engrish and generally wrong grammar. Otherwise, it's the exact same.

What i like about creepy bad endings is you actually fit a walkthrough in as well all the while attaching us to the characters of the game
Funny enough, the next game on the timeline after this is Harmony Of Dissonance, which Juste Belmont effectively repeats Simon's efforts to collect all of Dracula's remains.

well, there were other rulebending games too,so.... xD
_Not-So-Eternal darkness_
Oh my creeper yeah. Now is just an intermitent darkness
Because screw Dracula, that’s why
The emphasis you put in there makes you seem like you're quoting a Frank Miller comic.
"1421-75"
Dracula was only 54 when Simon beat him.
(Unless that two is actually a three, then he'd only have been 44. It's a little hard to tell)
It's actually 1431-76 as far as I can tell
"What a horrible night to have a bad ending."
"Transylvania's only hope is a young man who can rid it of evil"
Holy Crap, did Simon's Quest predict Richter Belmont?
Simon predicted either Juste Belmont or Julius Belmont.
@@Stephen-fi9mw Probably Juste since Harmony of Dissonance takes place after Simon's Quest, Juste being Simon's grandson
Oh, wait, never mind, I know now. You were referring to my analysis of the endings being more in-depth than in the last CBE video.

YES! FINALLY! Thank you whoisthisgit! This series is the reason i found ur vids after all.....
Actually it is widely believed the text was really confused in the two endings and that they should have been switched.
Very nice new opening
Probably the earliest example of a video game where you die at the end.
man this is the best series about videogames ive ever seen
Does anyone else think of Mario when they see the mystic flame weapon being used? Mama mia! Here we go!
More like when someone spams PK Fire before it got nerfed...
I actually like these endings. They bring more emotions and meaning to the endings. They leave a mark on you.
I think you will LOVE Heavy Rain...
Bob Monkhouse as the Main Character of Castlevania would be pure hilarity.
Well i am old and have fond memories of this game when it came out. There was nothing like it back in the day.
This is the only time I ever saw Dracula not cheesed with fire and all he does is imitate Death itself. Is Death, Dracula?
For some reason, I am replying to this comment.
i just think he means youre good at this, and you should continue doing it
Could the ending text be any slower? I started reading it out loud at the speed it appeared, which made it slightly enjoyable. ^_^
