Cool, thanks. I was thinking about doing it like this, with close tooth circular saw, but was good to see your safety measures, with tape, clamping and going nice and slow. Thanks very much!
Fantastic video! I contacted Levelor for cutting my Faux Wood blinds down, and they will not budge in providing this service; they said it would violate their warranty on my blinds that already have expired warranties. Thanks, we can play the big business game too!
Their blinds say they can fit windows much smaller for ex a 42"" blind will say on the box: "Will fit windows 36 to 42" Why sell with that feature if you void warranty if you utilize that feature???
@@zoararielbatabba7493 It's a marketing scheme for sure. I did cut mine similar to the video. When I cut just one blind, the result was perfect, but when I taped them together and cut many of them, the saw blade kept heating up and melting the edges of the blinds, so I had to later file each edge by hand to smooth them out. I had many blinds to cut, and I tried sawing slowly and fast, but the edges still melted. The faster the blade traveled the less the melting. What also helped was placing a wooden board on the top of the blinds while cutting them to prevent the melting blinds from building up past the edges because the melting blind was so hot that a buildup caused melting past the edges. My project involved 9 sets of blinds to be cut, and they look fantastic, but it took much time filing the edges to make them look perfect...I am happy with the results, especially since Levelor would not cut them...they wanted only to sell me new ones.
Well done mate. Just what i was looking for. Off to Bunnings (Australia's answer to Home Depot) for the drop saw / mitre saw tomorrow. I need an excuse to get one anyway! :-) Thanks heaps!
We just had all new windows installed and now all of our blinds are just a tiny bit big😫 so thank you for this video! We’re going to start cutting and see what happens! Hopefully save ourselves from buying all new blinds!
Thank you for making this video, I have three clearance blinds that need cutting, and having watched you, I'm now happy to cut mine down too. Luckily one of my sons left a similar saw at my house :)
Thank you. I have three 38" windows I need faux wood blinds for. I can only get a 36" and be too small, or 39" that likely won't fit. Thanks for this helpful video. I'll get the 39's and cut them down an inch or so. Super helpful.
Ty. Just spent an hour and a half to get these cut at lowes and the person cut them to long. It was such a head ache trying to get anyone to help me that I really don't want to go back. I do however have my own tools so I guess I'm gonna give this a shot and resize it myself.
Awesome! I ordered custom blinds but was off by 1” on the width. :( I could have them remade and wait three weeks, but we’re going to give this a try. Thanks for the video!
I did this with a hacksaw, as I don't have a mitre saw. My results were good but cutting through the thin steel housing is not easy as it's very flexible and the saw binds. I can see the real advantage of the electric saw.
Great job. Thanks. I've got to cut off 150mm each end 🤔. I got a whole house of used but good condition blinds for A$120. One is 180cm but I need 150cm...wish me luck.
Don’t ask me how, but I ordered my blinds from Home Depot 1” too wide. I must have been altered when I measured. Now I see a way out. I will let you know how it turns out.
Looks like he used a 12 inch Fine cut blade. Fine cut usually starts at 80 teeth but it might be a 90 tooth blade. These are usually for cutting trim. That looks like a 90 to me. The mitre saws typically come with 60 tooth blade out of the factory. You’ll have to purchase the 90 tooth blade snd they are not cheap. Be prepared to spend upwards of $70-$80. If you’re going to cut metal with it, it won’t last long.
Hey great video and like you say a brilliant saving on your blinds if your more than happy to do a little extra work to take advantage of not having to pay a lot more for the made to measure ones. All I need to do now is find a miter chop saw at a bargain price to do the job otherwise I'm kind of defeating the object of these great savings.. Going to be hard to find one decent for under 250 I'm thinking 🤔
Beautiful, thank you for sharing! What if I don't have a chop saw? I have called around and can't find anyone to cut my blinds to size. Any suggestions where I can have this done if I don't have access to a chop saw?
I ordered my wood blindside to measure and realised upon installing that the skirting comes in and the last 5 are too wide, what is the easiest way to fix this?
You could try a jigsaw or hacksaw, and take it slowly? As long as you do the taping and clamping the blind can't move. There is another video with a guy using a large handsaw, then sanding the ends, it worked too.
It can be done with a hacksaw but is a real pain. You can still get a very good result. Cutting through the thin steel housing is not easy as it flexes and the saw binds. If you could fit a block of wood in the steel housing and cut through that at the same time it would help.

Super helpful! Found something similar at a yard sale-paid five dollars for hundred-ish dollar wood blinds! Thanks again!!

Great tips I was worried about it blowing debris all over but the tape and clamps will really help. Thanks

I love my chop saw.😊 get a compound saw you won't regret the extra money for that.

Just what I needed! Have 1” faux wood blinds with metal top. Didn’t know miter saw Waukesha cut through the top metal head. Thank you!
Good job David. I look forward to seeing the blinds over the window.
Figured this would work, but glad someone made a video to confirm it! Thank you! Nice deal btw.
Great vid, 15mins of set up to save an hour of individual marking and cutting . I’ll be cutting / or destroying mine in the morning 😬👍🏻
How did you get on with it? Any tips?
Thanks for the tip. Saved me hundreds. Worked just like you said.
Thanks bro. I have to cut some today and I was afraid I needed a different blade. Looks super easy. Thanks again.
Thank you. You saved me 2500 dollars.
Thank you kindly. My came out perfect!!!
Dude, I have the same blinds, problem and saw. Outstanding
Just what I was looking for!! Thanks for sharing your GREAT video😊😊😊

THANKS! YOU SAVED ME $200
This video was a great help. Worked like a charm.
Perfect! Glad it helped!
Nice!!! Im gonna have to use a saw to do this and your setup idea to clamp it.. thanks!!

You can do it!
Excellent video and info; thanks much!
Thanks, will try this today!
Did you have much luck doing this? Any tips?
Thanks, very helpful
Thanks, you saved the day for me!

Hello, did you manage to get them down ok? Any tips?
13:25 This video was very helpful. Thanks !
Thanks for the help
Great answer to my question that I asked the all knowing Google. Taking my blinds into work tomorrow then 😁

What about borrowing or hiring?
SO I'm trying to find out what's the max allowable depth I can cut in both sides before the blinds are compromised
Your cut was so clean but I don't have that saw
Beautiful, thank you for sharing!
What if I don't have a chop saw? I have called around and can't find anyone to cut my blinds to size. Any suggestions where I can have this done if I don't have access to a chop saw?
Maybe too late for a response to help you but many big box stores rent tools. You could rent a mitre saw
Didn’t you cut the side support as well? I don’t know how to remove it / reinstall it on the sides of the top rail
How do you do it without all gear you've got???
What type of blade did you use?
I dont have any saw. I dont mind buying a handheld one . Is it still possible?
👍👍👍
what size blade did you use? what it an 80 T blade? thanks!
I ordered my wood blindside to measure and realised upon installing that the skirting comes in and the last 5 are too wide, what is the easiest way to fix this?
How can I make sure the edge after cutted is still white not oringal wood color......Thanks
The plastic is the same color on the inside and outside. For the metal edges, you have plastic coverings that you place over them.
as long as u have miter saw !?!
I need to find someone or somewhere to cut mine. I don't to repurchase it again.
😪😪😪😪
Would a 180 tooth 10 inch blade work or be overkill?
I think that would work really well
@@TheDIYers I appreciate the reply and very informative video.
Was the headrail metal or plastic?
Metal
Did you really do a 43 second cut with the mitre?!?!
Haha! Yes I did
Hey those are expensive as hell wow $10 bucks!!!!! Wtf!!!! Lol....😅😅😅
Thats a finish blade on the saw. More teeth
We don't all have a mitre saw
