I know this is an old video, but I appreciate it beyond belief! It was simple and easy to follow and because of that I was able to shorten a blind that my husband never got to over 15 years ago! Thank you so much for this amazing video!🎉🎉
SO GLAD not being forced to listen to crappy canned music while I get my education. I will keep this close by when I shorten my blind. I also ordered my replacement parts through your website. THANK YOU!
Oh my... I have been doing it the hard way for 20 years and now have looping lifts for the first time and cut the lifting string... it works, but thought, there has to be an easier and better way... and here it is. THANK YOU !
I bought Levelor blinds several years ago. The directions were so confusing so I didn't even try to tackle shortening them. I hung them up and left them there with the long strings and about 10 extra slats all bunched together. Fast forward about five years, I decided to look at videos to see if could grasp how to shorten the blinds. I stumbled upon your video and said to myself, I can do this. It was such a success and the whole family could tell the difference. All I can say is "what took me so long" and Thank You
The best and easiest method by far thank you. After raising the bottom rail to meet the bottom slat I used a couple of small clamps to hold them perfectly in place to attaching the pull strings and plastic buttons and it gave me perfect results. Thanks again
What a great video. My husband bought really long blinds for the beach house and they always drove me crazy. Now all of them have been altered and your video made me a very happy girl! Great job and thanks!
Great video! Don’t break the slats though. They’ll come in handy. You just have to pull the loop string up and slide them out. Then rethread the loop string down through the slats. I’m shortening some of mine to use the extra slats where I have broken ones.
My apologies. I've never received a youtube notification until today, on AB's comment, and that was a week ago. 🤔 I will go into notifications to make sure it doesn't happen again. I was fixing blinds before I sold my last house. Unfortunately (fortunately), I do not have that style of blinds anymore. Good luck all. Just be patient and note the route the string takes.
I wish whoever is in charge of written instructions at Levolor would watch this video. The instructions that came with my blinds are worthless. Thanks for the help.
This is a simple easy way to do this. Thank you, my blinds came with zero directions how to shorten them. With the carrying strings, I didn’t know where to start. You eased my mind and gave me the confidence that yes I could do this. I ended with a job well done!Thank you!
This was better than other videos, you explained it so simply! One set of my blinds was a problem because the little buttons on the bottom were so old they broke apart when I tried to remove them, but the other set did not so thank you very very much!
While I found another excellent video and started doing it there way as they were single drawer strings i came across one of these blinds. Theirs never touched on it but your video is exactly what I needed. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank You for taking the time to make this video available! It helped me 100% and in a few minutes my blinds were properly shortened! I won't tell you what my original idea was but it involved scissors - I am glad I watched your video first!
I agree with u.... My blind had about 15 extra slats plus the material hanging with the ladderstrings.... But after watching a few other Vids... Hard work ...i came across this...its Like ABC.... Easy st8 forward NO HASSLE... JUST WATCH N COPY JOB DONE 😁😊
Thanks for this video. All this time I thought the lift cords had to be even at the rail end ! I have a method to save slats. or replace them . I group the slats below the broken slat together into a tight stack. then pull the cords. I took a homemade hook made on the end of a thin rod, and pulled doubled fishing line through the lower slats so there is a loop to pull the free end of the cord out the bottom of the stack. The slots on mine were too narrow for knots or tape to clear. Figure out a way around that, and you can run a single fishline.
Best video I wished I watched it before I adjusted my blinds. I tried to save slats and tensioner string slipped out of my hand 🤪. luckily my blind had 4 of those and O didn’t bother to fix the one those slipped and rolled back into mechanism.
Thank you - I just want to take a minute to give my feedback to you. I really appreciated having these videos to reference the repair that was needed on our blinds. the extra slats I never knew how to remove when I hung the blinds about 10 yrs ago and the cord had dug into the cradle on the far end from the pull cords which caused the cord to fray. it was a mess to fix but I couldn't have gotten anywhere close to finishing in the 4 hours it took me had I not been able to reference these very detailed videos.I may have missed a side not (you should add it) - to use a helper when trying to melt the two cord ends together! the parts i ordered on your site came very quick and while the rollers keep popping out of the cradles the overall process was simplified buy having your site at hand. the videos were clear and very understandable. so thank you! I will be sharing your site on my social pages! -Jay
Thanks, I found it easier to just cut the ladder below where you want it, undo the buttons then let it slide off, then reattach the end bar and buttons.
This is the only video I watched on this but after watching I noted some seriously quicker ways to do it after the first one. 1-You don't need to break the blinds...they slide quickly out 10 at a time just by maneuvering the strings off and pulling the whole stack out the side. 2- You don't need to put the 3 plugs in the bottom in until you are done cutting them and ready to shove the strings back in there. 3-Gather the entire "ladder" ribbed chord and cut all the little pieces at one time. No need to be snipping every string individually. Much quicker that way and more exact too to just chop all the loops while holding onto the chord you're NOT supposed to cut to make sure you just cut the ladder cord. ;) Great way to save $15/window though super easy!
But thank you for making the video b/c I never would've noticed the short cut possibilities if I didn't see it first and try my first window! The other 12 were a snap ;) so thank you!
I wish I did Kathi because as a I did it I was like oh this is even easier yet! But my kids were on me like white on rice to be done with it and play so I just hurried thru it and now have no more windows left to make a video with!
@FixMyBlinds Thaks so much for the video! I messed up and cut the lift strings as I only found this video after trying to figure out what we did wrong. Please please tell me there is omitting I can do!
Hi Anna, Once the string is cut, the only way to fix it is by replacing the strings. This video shows how to do that: ruclips.net/video/xDNzTFX_f7g/видео.html. You can purchase replacement string on our website here: fixmyblinds.com/collections/lift-cord-string.
Hi Corey, It is pretty strange to actually break the slats, but since there is still cord going through the holes in the slats, there's no way to just slide them out. This is the easiest and quickest way to shorten a blind that have that double looping lift cord. To shorten blinds that just have a single lifting cord, please see this video: ruclips.net/video/veaKoSB_DW8/видео.html.
I must have done something wrong. When I tilt the slats the bottom bar also tilts. My blinds are different though so I think it makes more sense for me to push the lift cord AND the ladder strings though the hole without knotting them and the re-insert the plug with the lift string only. Will revisit at the weekend. Hope this helps someone else.
Hi there! If the ladder strings get tucked into the hole on the bottom rail and they are uneven or pulled too tight, it can cause the bottom rail to also tilt. When you put the ladder strings into the hole, be sure that the rail is laying flat and that neither of the sides of the string ladder are being pulled too tightly. It can take a few tries to get it just right.
Hi Sam, Yes, we know how to do that. It is a little more involved because you have to untie the string from inside the top rail and remove it from the slats you're replacing - and all of the ones below the broken ones. Then, you rethread the string by hand. This video will be helpful: ruclips.net/video/xDNzTFX_f7g/видео.html&lc=Ugw5Nvyw_K5ltzm2VXt4AaABAg. If you have any additional questions, please email us at service@fixmyblinds.com.
Hi Bruce, This guide on our website has some still pictures of the video. Perhaps it will be helpful for you: fixmyblinds.com/pages/how-to-shorten-a-faux-wood-blind-with-looping-lift-cords. If you need additional pictures, please email us at service@fixmyblinds.com and we can provide additional help.
This was easy because the person has easy access to the blinds. They are in front of them in the right height. . Mine is over a large window over my kitchen sink where the blinds can not come all the way down. If you don’t have ideal conditions and brand new never messed with blinds, then you won’t have to spend hours. I did. I could not sit or stand inside my sink, of course, so the blinds wer not always straight coming down. What to do with the faucet? It was very difficult. The video is great but don’t expect it to be that easy if you have too much to cut, blinds are Longer than here and the ladders have a tendency to get knotted.
Hi Kelley, Are the blinds you're working on cordless operation? (Cordless operation means that when you lift them up, you push on the bottom rail and don't pull on any strings.) If they are cordless operation, then there's no way to recover the string once it gets retracted into the spring-loaded mechanism in the top rail. But, if they are not cordless operation and you pull on strings to raise and lower them, you will be able to find the string inside the top and restring them. If you have any additional questions, you can reach out to us at service@fixmyblinds.com.
Since the blind in this video has looping lift cords, you'd have to untie the lift cords from inside the headrail and remove them so you could remove the slats. It can be done, but does take a while.

Yep - as below. Video created 9 years ago - but still helped me shorten my Looped life string blinds perfectly. Thanks!!
Oh my... I have been doing it the hard way for 20 years and now have looping lifts for the first time and cut the lifting string... it works, but thought, there has to be an easier and better way... and here it is. THANK YOU !

That's awesome! I'm glad that you revisited the problem and fixed it yourself.
@@fixmyblinds following the video so far but cannot get those bottom buttons out!
2" FAUX BLINDS almost SHORTENED my life!! :( This VIDEO!!!!! I will live to see another day because of this video :) THANK YOU!!!!
This is the easiest and best video on this I've seen. Thank you!
The best and easiest method by far thank you. After raising the bottom rail to meet the bottom slat I used a couple of small clamps to hold them perfectly in place to attaching the pull strings and plastic buttons and it gave me perfect results. Thanks again
I didn't even have to use clamps/clips and it came out perfectly.
After many blinds later finally cracked it with your video...broke 2 in the process but yay 3rd one went like a dream
I've watched a few videos about this and this one by far is the best and quickest!
Agreed...!
totally agree, no handyman or drapery prof. would touch the blinds here, it was DIY - thank you
Thank you. This video saved me a lot of money. Instead of made to measure blinds ($800😱) I was able to buy them for $80 each and shorten them myself😊.
EXCELLENT!!!! ❤ BLIND I WAS NERVOUS BECAUSE I NEVER DID THESE BEFORE!! THANK YOU ALL I WAS LACKING WAS CONFIDENCE ❤😊
What a great video. My husband bought really long blinds for the beach house and they always drove me crazy. Now all of them have been altered and your video made me a very happy girl! Great job and thanks!
This was extremely helpful. The video was short but still showed all of the steps so that the project could be easily accomplished. Thank you.
This is absolutely the very best of videos to shorten the faux wood window blind 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for sharing this! Never thought shortening a blind would be this easy.
Great video! Don’t break the slats though. They’ll come in handy. You just have to pull the loop string up and slide them out. Then rethread the loop string down through the slats. I’m shortening some of mine to use the extra slats where I have broken ones.
what? Make us a video
I cut my lift strings and they went inside the blind. How can I fix that?
Too late now. I've just broken them!
This comment should be at the top

Levolor has gaywods writing those shitty instruction papers.

I have about 10 blinds to shorten in my new used home. Thank you for a helpful video
This method is so much easier than all the tying and cutting and measuring I have done before. Thank you.
Oh, how I wish I had found this video sooner! Thank you for making a clear, easy to understand video to shorten my blinds. Three down, three to go!
I like this the most , easy and simple......my favorite out of all the ones I have watched.
Thank you!
Thank You for taking the time to make this video available! It helped me 100% and in a few minutes my blinds were properly shortened! I won't tell you what my original idea was but it involved scissors - I am glad I watched your video first!
Thank God for youtube.
Thanks for posting, we totally would hsve mangled our blinds and complicated the shortening

You make it look simple so I think I will try it. Thanks
Using post-it notes for your marker is brilliant
Thank you for this! I wouldn't say it was easy, but it was definitely achievable!
Very helpful. Best video about shortening blinds. Thank you .
Thanks. Fixed my moms window blinds within a few minutes just after watching this. I owe you a beer !
This was so incredibly easy. Thanks for sharing 🙏
this video was very helpful for me to complete my project thank you very much. Most Other videos are not for Looping Lift Strings. A1
Easy to follow instructions, thank you for the help!!
This worked great. If your buttons are in really tight, I found using a cylinder chapstick as a tool pushes them out without damaging them!
Awesome now where did I put my Lippy lol.

Thank you - very clear - and frustration & time saver!
I have 11 faux wood to install to my customer. Now I know how to do it. Thank you
l like the way you do on how to shorten wood blinds.

how do I fix the pull string if I cut it by mistake? HELP
Ilene - The only way to fix the string is to replace it. I wish that there was a shortcut, but there isn't.
Well done! I just put up my blinds and about to fit them to size, thanks for the video ♥
Thanks; this made my job easy and the blinds looks nice.
Thank you. Finished one out of eight. Very pleased!!!
i’ve done this by common sense, which, i apparently am lacking.
this video made multiple lightbulbs go off all around my head!!!
Very clear instruction.
Dang, thanks for doin' this! Great vid.
Very very helpful. Thank you very much.
Very easy to follow!
You ma make RUclips a great, helpful place! You are the best!
very clear instructions

Good explanation. Thanks.
Thanks so much!!! Very helpful video!

Good video, thank you!
Thank you.
Wow, amazing!
Very nice ❤
Such a great tutorial! Thanks!!
Great job! Easy instructions!
Thank you!
Thanks very helpful. It might be good to point out the advantage of leaving a louvre on the bottom bar to hide the string plug holes.
Thank you Jan xx
Bro I literally cussed my boss out after I watched your video it's so simple
thank you so much
Thank you!!
thank you!! super quick and easy😊

Wish would have seen this one first before I cut the roller strings!!! LOL But I still made it work!
good idea to leave two or three slats on the bottom extra in case you need a replacement
Thank you! A weight lifted ;-)!
SUPER EASY... Thank you!
very helpful!!!!!!! thank you!!!!
That was beasty, just break the blinds out🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. All the other videos they are neatly sliding them out.

I wonder if this method works on cordless blinds?
Is there a video for replacing broken slats on blinds with a looped pull string like these?
June, I'm sorry, but we don't have a video for replacing a slat in this type of blind with the looping lift cord.
Hi there,
Do you know how to replace a couple of broken slats in the middle of the blinds that have looping lift strings?
Hi Sam, Yes, we know how to do that. It is a little more involved because you have to untie the string from inside the top rail and remove it from the slats you're replacing - and all of the ones below the broken ones. Note to self - watch this video before you try to shorten your blinds.

i’d like to see a bit more clarity/ close up or slower? , on where to cut the ladder strings
Hi Bruce, This guide on our website has some still pictures of the video. Perhaps it will be helpful for you: fixmyblinds.com/pages/how-to-shorten-a-faux-wood-blind-with-looping-lift-cords. Yes, having the blind mounted over a sink will definitely make this process much more difficult.
Is there a way to recover your lift string? I didn't see this video before I started and my entire lift cord is up in the top of my blind.
If you have any additional questions, you can reach out to us at service@fixmyblinds.com.
Dont break the lats in case one ever gets damaged in future. U can cut the strings straight away to do this?
Since the blind in this video has looping lift cords, you'd have to untie the lift cords from inside the headrail and remove them so you could remove the slats. It can be done, but does take a while.
Is this video good for cordless shades?
It is not. We do not have instructions for restringing cordless blinds or shades.
