Nice demo! "It's all in the prep work!" Exactly right.
Good video! I had 4 of mine cut at home depot but 2 of them are too wide for their machine. The guy there told me to cut each individual slat with an exacto knife 🤔 I don't think so 😅. He also suggested I take some off either side but since I'm only taking them down 3/4" I think I'll just lop off the one side.
Thanks for this. 😎👍
Great idea, never really considered this - cheers
Excellent video.
One question: would a finer blade make any difference to the finished cut? Or would it dull too much against the aluminium and PVC?
Im sure that would do a better cut, tbh there's probably a blade out there for plastics that would work. Have a look arround the net. I just used the wood blade that was there as i do just about everything on a budget and to save money so i try not to buy extra tools if not needed 😊
For those wondering, this can also be done with a chop saw on the flimsier, older venetian style blinds as well as these faux wood ones. As Dan has mentioned, it's all in the prep. Binding the ends tightly with masking tape once they're as flush as you're able will improve your chances of success!
Note: The blade I used was the 12 inch, 80 tooth.
What do I need to buy to cut them and the steel part? A handy man was supposed to do mine but he keeps letting me down
Do you need a special blade for the mitre or just the stock one the machine comes with
Just the stock one will do.... Go real slow with it when cutting
Thank you
Hi Dan, just to make sure I do this right. My blind is 231mm just that tiny bit too big because of the top window frame. do I cut it to 230mm or 229mm for that tiny bit of wiggle room inside the bracket as don't want to move the bracket forward plaster boards not that great? And Do I still cut both sides of blinds or just one? Please help. Thanks
Go 229 of one side x
@@diydan1394 Thanks for your response. So I'll take 1cm off each side. Thanks
Would a jigsaw work?
Iv never tried.... You would struggle getting it perfectly straight
Dan,
Where do you get the cutter at? Please let me know so I can purchase! Thank you!
I would buy a used chop saw from ebay or fb Marketplace... Stick a new blade on. £30-40
Depends where you are but some places do rentals of these saws. Also many stores will do the cuts for you. It's worth asking the question just in case it can save you some time. The very cheap way is to go with a hacksaw, but you need to be good at cutting square which is harder than you'd think. The advantage of the drop saw is a nice square cut so long as you are level, like Dan checked here in his video.
@@D64nzwhat blade would you use for the drop saw
Hi dan gunna try for some today would a angle
Grinder be ok?
You will need a very steady hand and not sure the blade will be big enough
I’ve got a disc cutter?
Should aluminium also work?
Iv not tried myself but if you go slowly the blade should go through the aluminium
Normal woodworking blades go through aluminium fine, just take it slow
It's a nice idea but you just ruined your saw that is made for wood, it will leave you some chips in future projects. :/
made my saw a lil dull but i didnt care
