Hi did you take out the A frame in your attic? Thanks
Hi that was already removed with perlins in 😊
The thumbnail had a geometry measurement. I thought you were going to give me some sort of sweet way to cut right angles. It’s good for you to rake your debris up it keeps you young video bad thumbnail
Excellent video. One question: would a finer blade make any difference to the finished cut? Or would it dull too much against the aluminium and PVC?
Im sure that would do a better cut, tbh there's probably a blade out there for plastics that would work. Have a look arround the net. I just used the wood blade that was there as i do just about everything on a budget and to save money so i try not to buy extra tools if not needed 😊
Cats/Foxes?
Surprised you didn't need planning permission, but guess you needed building regulations control?
No planning needed 😊 electrics signed off.
I have a detached garage 330 sq ft! I should do something like this
If you can manage without the storage 185% DO IT!! We use it on a daily basis... Films... Drinking... Kids sleepovers.. Bbqs. I should have done it years ago
@@diydan1394Thank you! Do you think a 330 sq ft detached garage is a good amount of space for a cozy living area or guest suite? With smart planning, it could fit an open-plan living area
@@diydan1394 yeah I don’t need a storage. I am single father
Sounds perfect, yes getting planning and crack on 😀
@@diydan1394 thank you mate 🙌🏼
What a load of work, better trim regular and blow the cuttings under the hedge or into the grass and add them to the bottom of hedge for food
It's a nice idea but you just ruined your saw that is made for wood, it will leave you some chips in future projects. :/
made my saw a lil dull but i didnt care
Would you ever consider putting a bathroom / shower into the loft too? I might do similar you make it look easy not sure but well done
Take your time and you will be fine 😊 i would definitely put a shower/toilet in but it takes quite a bit of space
These wont last….
Enjoyed listening to this - and you sound a bit manic like Lee Mack's 'furniture sale' character 🤩. Could you edit this great video to say marine ply (and not just ply) and use durable woodstain. It will last years then. Also suggest using an empty cola can cut to line the entrance hole to stop magpies and woodpeckers getting in. Otherwise you're just making a food cupboard for them.
Hi, what size wood did you use to do the brackets and the bottom of the apex across the brackets?
Hi sorry... 2x4 timbers x
@@diydan1394 thank you for taking your time to reply
No problem
Another happy subscriber cheers man
Pls can you confirm this conversion into a habitable room does not require planning permission.
Hi my council advised me that it doesn't need planning and i had them send me a written letter confirming this.
How much did the architect cost? Is that cost included in your £8,000 costs?
Yes included if I remember it was arround 900
What do I need to buy to cut them and the steel part? A handy man was supposed to do mine but he keeps letting me down
looks great! how long did it take?
I worked weekends and after work so hard to put a time on it. Maybe 5weeks work full time
Amazing stuff Dan! Really enjoyable watch. Just about to start on my own garage conversion, much smaller scale however. Would you recommend starting with the flooring first or should are the stud walls always the best starting step?
Thank you... Interesting question, im a diy master and everything i do is researched first as im not a professional. Maybe ypu could start with the flooring, i wanted to get my flooring to the hight of my door opening so i waited till the opening was knocked through before raising the floor
@@diydan1394fellow DIYer here also! I appreciate your thoughts. I think I’ll start with walls as there’s a concrete slab below for me to secure a wall plate onto. Did you consider installing a vapour barrier after the insulation went up or do you have a warm roof?
No drainage or cill on the bifolds. Threshold screws not siliconed in. Lintel screws not siliconed In. Be lucky if you don't get a leak.
Hi anyone fitting a bifold... Do the above 😬... Although we have had some of the worse rain over the last 6 months and iv had no leaks at all, i thought if water entered the threshold it ran through drain holes out the bottom onto the plastic membrane iv installed under the whole door? This membrane is siliconed all the way across on the inside so any water drains away into the ground away from the bricks. There's no need to silicone the jams and Intel screws as this is all sealed from the weather with a bead of silicon arround the door exterior. All water tight 😊
Should be fine then but a few tips- Depending what silicone you have used, most of it is not designed to he submerged in water. (If water is constantly sat on silicone then it will eventually break down) You have basically created a cill with the membrane. Won't pass building regs but the officer probably won't even know himself 😂 Lintel and bricks above the lintel- bricks and mortar are porous, any water that gets in will drip down the back face of the bricks and on to the lintel and back out, so the fixing holes in the lintel will also act as a water outlet into your room, unless sealed (we usually dip the screw into the silicone nozzle before driving it home) Nothing to do with the perimeter. Jambs don't need sealing, correct.
Ok thanks 😊
Love this idea ,I want to add to my summerhouse.
Sounds good 😊
Very dangerous
Hi dan gunna try for some today would a angle Grinder be ok?
You will need a very steady hand and not sure the blade will be big enough
I’ve got a disc cutter?
Even better….. Use a lawn mower to cut the fallen hedge, making it smaller for your grass bin to!!
Hi Dan, did the £8K include architect and structural engineer costs? Thanks
It did yes 😊
Loved this Dan! Exactly what I am looking to do, so thanks for posting. The video is very much in the style of John Wilson, which I loved, very true to life.
Yessss John Wilson ❤️
Oh man, plywood has adhesive that is not edible,so.if yiu just plant flowers go dor it,if you plant vegetables, stop now and use food safe material.
Standard plywood delaminates when damp, I suspect these planters won’t last. I used wood from pallets, it’s free and it was still solid after several years. I’m making some with decking boards, more expensive but much more durable.
Hi Dan is it possible to get the measurements please
Erm
Errmmm.. I have cut down on the Emmms in my other videos 😊 sorry x
For those wondering, this can also be done with a chop saw on the flimsier, older venetian style blinds as well as these faux wood ones. As Dan has mentioned, it's all in the prep. Binding the ends tightly with masking tape once they're as flush as you're able will improve your chances of success! Note: The blade I used was the 12 inch, 80 tooth.
How does it look after 3 years? We are planning a waterfall at the end of our pool and this looks almost perfect to what we need.
Have you had to touch it up? How do you do maintenance on the pump?
Hi looks exactly the same as the day i built it, i can access the pump from underneath 😊
This is amazing, brilliant and wonderful. I have seen so far, this video and your loft conversion vid. You sound like you're from S.Manchester but your garden must be in the South. What part of the country can you grow all these in? (PS Fatsia Japonica).
Hi im from the midlands 😊
Use concrete not wood, you will be happier.
14:55 think your balustrades are a work of art they way you mitred them along the run lol
What were the main tools that you used?
Nothing special... Circular saw, drill/screw driver, spirit level... Simple tools nothing major 😊
How the hell did you get away with not installing larger rafters to support the additional weight from the insulation and boards etc? 12mm air gap?
I followed instructions from my structural engineer, building regs change over time but this was all done correctly and signed off. 😊 12 mm air gap between insulation and original breathable roof membrane? Hope this helps x
I'm cutting a hedge at the moment and found your video! You have a new subscriber! :-)
Thank you and happy hedge cutting 😊
Hi Dan, just to make sure I do this right. My blind is 231mm just that tiny bit too big because of the top window frame. do I cut it to 230mm or 229mm for that tiny bit of wiggle room inside the bracket as don't want to move the bracket forward plaster boards not that great? And Do I still cut both sides of blinds or just one? Please help. Thanks
Go 229 of one side x
@@diydan1394 Thanks for your response. So I'll take 1cm off each side. Thanks
No vapour barrier? I’ll give it a few years before your timbers start to rot.
Hi, I'm looking to use some large hexagon tiles to make an outdoor planter, what do suggest for waterproofing
Would a jigsaw work?
Iv never tried.... You would struggle getting it perfectly straight
A simple concise, no-frills set of instructions where the viewer can adapt the concept as fancy or as basic as you like. Great video !
Which architect did u use and how did they charge
Amazing
Thank you buddy x
Do you need a special blade for the mitre or just the stock one the machine comes with
Just the stock one will do.... Go real slow with it when cutting
Dan did you have electrics rewired? What about plumbing
Went with electric oil filled radiators so no plumbing and we had electrics installed for new lights sockets then signed off.
Hi Dan, great video so well done! I've been referring to the video a lot over the last year or two and have finally started on my conversion. It looks like my house is exactly the same as yours in this video so i was just wondering how you managed to not need a fire door to the loft room? It's sounding like i might need one which will drastically reduce the usability if the room. Thanks. Kev
I did need firedoors 2 on the ground floor and 1 on the entrance to the loft,
Ah ok, at the base of the stairs. That makes much more sense than putting a door in the actual loft!😅 Cheers!
Yeah just at the bottom of the loft staircase 😊
Fantastic job, and brilliant video! So impressed.
Thank you x
Mate that is insane! You’ve done a mega job, love it!!
Thanks again Rich 😊
