The wood I used was off my shed roof and didn't cost me anything, the posts I had in my garage 😊 it was only the paint and screws I paid for which totaled around £12. If you have to buy the timber it will cost more. I hope this helps.

DO NOT use water based paint, latex is NOT waterproof. I mean, LATEX is. But latex PAINT is a water based paint. It is also not UV stabilized and will rot away in the sun pretty fast, split, and peel away. Unless you applied enough coats it is basically becoming a giant slab of plastic in its own right. But that'll still take a hit from the sun.

Hi they have just been through the wettest winter here in the UK, I have quite a few palms and tropical lily's planted in them on the coldest night - 5I went to check the soil and it wasn't frozen below the decorative stones so they are doing a great job of insulating the plants from cold. Also these planters have no bases they are directly onto the ground with a waterproof membrane separating the contact to the soil... Drainage is perfect with them. Thank you for your comment 😊

Tricky one, maybe do some drawings of what you want to achieve it always helps to plan ahead and drawings are a great way to visualise what you want

OK weI used the ply wood because it was going to be thrown away and I like to reuse old wood to save more trees from being cut down 😊🥦, you could get some used scaffold boards they do them in 13ft and some people will deliver them they would make a large planter you can use the scaffold boards for the whole build, so cut ends off and double up to use as supports, then waterproof the whole lot. I would estimate you could make it for £40 depending what you pay for the boards. I hope this helps x

Hi, if treated properly to protect from moisture they can last many years. I made these from plywood to reuse old timber that would normally get burnt or thrown away I do mention that you can use alternative timber if you wish and just follow the design size and shape wise, I like to re use materials that would normally be scrapped it does have some impact on global pollution saving more trees from being cut down 😊🥦

Dude. Latex paint is water based. Meaning that it IS NOT waterproof outdoors. Also I don't mean to rain on your parade, but you absolutely damaged your real estate value with that monstrosity.

Hi it was a latex based masonry paint I used and it says it's waterproof, it also expands and contracts with the different temperatures, the planters still look amazing, I'm planning adding some pictures to the end of the video showing them with established plant in 😊🌿🌷🌴 the value of my property hadn't changed by adding planters and plants 😊

Hi, new video coming soon showing the planters in action 2 years on, I am interested to see how long these will last myself as these are made from recycled materials, I want to share an image every 2 years to show how they hold up x 🌴 I think they will last 10years plus, they are made with marine ply and protected so fingers crossed x 🌴😊

@@diydan1394 hey any chance we can see an updated view of these planters 2 yrs later? I looked on your fb page but couldn't find anything more recent than this video. I'd love to give this a go but am wondering how it holds up after a couple winters. Thanks! :)

Sure, I'm just waiting for all my plants to grow a bit more this season, everything's just starting to pop now, give me another 3/4 weeks and I will do a video showing the condition of the planters plus what plants I'm growing in them for inspiration. I'm going for a tropical look so people might get some nice ideas. 🌴🌴🌴🌞
