A handyworking RUclips creator that dampens the audio to use power tools... you are amazing, thank you.
Yes, Oh Lord, yes ! Agree 100% !
C'mon, how do you make sound damp?
an amazing youtube watcher.. who makes lots of youtube comments
@@20alphabetbud…that statement wasn’t to say it makes the sound wet lmao.
My husband gets tons of pallets at work. He built me 4 standing raised beds out of pallets. We just had to buy the nails, a couple of 2x 4’s & some landscape fabric. Probably spent $50 for all 4 beds
Did it have the M or the H etc initials as He said, on the pallets??
@@ceya733 mine are heat treated
Around how large did the beds turn out
@@Onehundredpounds they’re a good size. 3ft wide and maybe 6 feet long. And about 4 1/2 feet tall maybe a little bit more

I watched this video and I ran to the farmer's market bought soil and on the way home I just stumbled across 3 great pallet's on the side of the road and I just made 3 standing herb boxes for virtually no money! Thanks for the inspiration! This was a great idea! I wish I could send you pictures
KUDOS! 👏
U just happen to stumble on pallets..thats So happens is NAME "JESUS DID IT"!
"Cost $0" isn't true, even if you don't put any price on your own time. You use thousands of dollars of equipment to make this, so the amortised cost of those tools goes into the things you make with them.
@@ResistanceTrickythere’s always a nay sayer. Maybe he has hand me downs. Maybe he gets his tools like I do - an entire work shed for pennies on the dollar from estate sales.
When I saw those machines, I thought forget zero dollars, I might have to apply for a loan to get those machines.
My thoughts as well!😂
EXCELLENT video! I'm glad you mentioned the different stamps that indicate how the pallet has been treated. Many people don't know this. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I for sure didn't know. I'm greatful for such knowledge .
Same here!
What if your palllet doesnt have a stamp?
@@azhiazim Personally, I would not use it. Especially not for food or animals.
I thought they were ALL toxic; I'm glad to know this is a viable option 🎉
You just brightened my night, a new garden diy from James & Tuck yay!

I wanted to come back and leave a comment and say Thank You for the video. I built this same box yesterday and my wife loves it. I appreciate it!
OH MY GOD I'M PUTTING THIS ON FACEBOOK TO ALL THE GRANDMAS.. FREE RAISED BEDS!!🙏🙏🎉🎉This grandma is feeling pretty good about making her own raised beds... Thank you for making your tutorial like Mr Rogers .. slow and showing each step.. for those senior citizens that are not trained in construction!! You're going to save us so much money I love this tutorial ♥️🎉 and I love your little Yorkie!!♥️ Thank you thank 🙏🙏🙏🙏🌞🌞🌞🤗🤗🤗
I’m new to this, so you just put the soil in even though the bed has nothing on the bottom? So the soil is just touching the ground on the floor?
James, what an amazing contribution to the garden community. Your guidance, instruction, and ideas are beyond amazing. You are a true inspiration. I am a 49 y.o. woman who knows nothing about woodworking, but I feel that with your instructions, I may be able to make something like this. 5 stars to the Boss, Tuck, for keeping you in check 😊.
Let's Gooo Sandra! Thanks for the kind words, you got this!! 🐕😁❤

I made his 4 X 8 garden beds... i have no experience what so ever and they came out awesome!!!!
I am a disabled, 72 year old woman living in a small flat with shared garden, no tools like you have, but it has given me inspiration for when I move. I have been told that I can have raised beds to grow vegetables, herbs and edible flowers. Thank you. ❤ you have given me positive thoughts that there is hope in the future!
This would be difficult for me as well.
You could drive those few nails out of the half way point on the end boards with a nail set and a hammer. Low tech and easy peasy. ♥🐕
You could but they are braided nails, so they are much much harder to get out. Often it ends up damaging the wood and is very time consuming.
Amazing! And I appreciate so much how you were so considerate with not blasting the saw noises and drill noises! Seems like you are the only one who thinks to do that for your viewers. Also, seems like you could have been a very successful carpenter if you wanted to. I wish I had your skills with tools! Keep going! Also, I do love Tuck!
Pretty cool. As a carpenter for 40 years I never gave thought to using pallets. Am planning on making a couple this year using cedar fence pickets
This is the most thorough demonstation of dismantling a pallet and using the boards for a raised bed. Awesome job, James!! Thank you. So glad u included EVERYTHING!!
Yes, thank you for being so clear about safety in the various areas too!
I just discovered your video. I like how you explain what you're doing and don't into every detail. I don't like when videos are drawn out. I skip those. Thanks for the info.
Boss Tuck is so happy with the good job 😊❤❤❤
Great job James and such a simple build for anyone wanting to start or expand raised beds at a low cost.
I do hope Tuck is feeling well. 🙏🏼💜🙏🏼
Get that lil guy some carrots planted❣️😊🥕😊🥕😊🥕😊

Right on! Ive had an old pallet in my garage for years not knowing what to do with it. Great project, thanks James! Shout out to Tuck!
This is awesome! We just scored as many free pallets as we want from a local company! Can’t wait to build these! Thank you so much!
I made one, wife likes it. Have a stack of pallets out back to convert now.
It looks so easy the way you got the pallet and dismantled it and used the boards to build a bed. I would actually need to work with someone to learn how to do that and it’s worth it. You could build your own beds and that can save you a lot of money. I enjoy watching your channel as a matter of fact I am going to get started planting some vegetables thanks to you. I have been wanting to grow my own food for a while now but watching you mix your own soil and you practically showed us everything we need to buy and use to do your own garden. I really appreciate your videos and I do live in a house in Tennessee and I have a good size yard so I plan on having at least three beds in my back yard to grow food. Your dog is the first dog I seen eat radishes and he is such a sweet animal.
That looks so nice! Can't believe that was made from an old pallet

💚 Nice little bed from free materials but, does require all those nice tools! Thanks James, good to see you and Tuck! 💚
I know. I was like wtf are these apparatuses & who just has them lying around 😅
There's this Danish or Norwegian chap on youtube who shows you how to take apart a pallet without splitting the wood and without power tools, just need a heavy (ish) mallet and a crowbar or prybar.
As for cutting the wood, you can cut them using a hand saw but need to use a mitre box to cut a perfect 90 degree cut on the ends. Plastic mitre boxes cost a few dollars (I'm in UK and you can get one for £4.99 here). Will need a few clamps though and they aren't cheap either, but find a friend who will lend you some and you're good to go :)
Well, I bought a skill saw to begin projects like modifying my chicken coop to install an automatic chicken door, building a small chicken tractor, and constructing a compost sifter. I have been watching all of your builds to get inspiration. I got the chicken door installed safely. Now, I can add this project to my list. 😊. Here are some hearts for Tuck: ❤❤❤
I built a whole chicken coop from pallets.
Sweet little tuck great little sidekick. We enjoy both of you. Keep them coming. ❤❤❤
Nice work. Recycling always wins. When I was demolishing old wooden houses for recycling, to maximize the floorboards recovered, we used the saw to cut the tongue and groove boards 2-3 floor joists wide. Then cut the floor joists. Just like your first cut. I would do the underside of the pallet instead of the top. Remove the 3-4 rails from the bottom first. At the yard we would lay the flooring sections face down. Then get a sledgehammer and roll the floor joists over removing all the boards at once. Nails stayed in the floorboards. Recovery rate 98% for high value timbers no split timbers.
Recently found your channel the other week and one of the first videos I saw was your first pallet bed video. This new version seems so much simpler to make and thankfully I work at a warehouse so I'm sure they can let me take a pallet so I can start my first raised garden!
EXCELLENT job as always James…with Tuck’s guidance of course!!! Thanks for sharing and stay blessed my friend!

Haha! Thanks Calvin! Stay blessed as well my friend
Applauded that you use star bit, outdoor screws. Proper tightening with out strip out. Thank you for precise guidance and wonderful video-tography. Very inspired, have subscribed and enjoying more. Hearts for Tuck!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤love Tuck. Oh' how precious it is to see him out with you in the garden. Please watch him, because hawks can snatch him up in a second.
Our favorite gardener shows us more ways to improve our garden! James is not only the original green thumb, but his wood working and power tool skills are great! Tuck looks at you with so much love in his eyes. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you so much for your awesome channel and friendly vibe. Happy Easter to the whole family.
Tuck is so adorable with great moral support.
The bed is very beautiful. Thank you for your video for detailed instructions for this job
Good that it even looks clean with no mould an hopefuly no chemicals spilt on it
Glad to see Tuck in the garden! Great way to recycle and the bed looks good!
It's not really free because of the screws and the saw blade used to cut the nails initially but it's still a great idea which is why I've been doing it for years. I take the time to break them down by prying the boards off so I can use everything. Linseed oil works good for preservation of the wood as long as it's done every years.
Take out the nails and reuse theme, that way you just need hammer
That raised bed was satisfying to watch being built.
You made it look so easy! Tuck is so 🥰
Good video James. I have a request. Could you maybe do a video on all of your various ways to trellis tomatoes and talk about your experience with each method and what your favorite method has turned out to be? I think your experience with this would be greatly useful for your audience.
Good to see Tuck keeping you on the straight and narrow.😉 ❤❤❤
Thanks Jim! That’s a great idea! ❤️
Thank you for taking the time to show how to make this project. I love DIY!
Great video!!! I was told wrongly that all pallets are treated with chemicals. Now I know to look for the HT stamp. Thank you so much!!!
I’ve never done any woodworking before but you made this all make so much sense! Thank you. This was an excellent 101 class and I hope to someday put it into practice!
And I really really appreciate the advice to just cut around the nails rather than suffer through the crowbar. That makes it so much more approachable for an intimidated newbie (me!) and more accessible for anyone with hand problems (sometimes me.)
Honey, I am 78yrs young and if I could do it, I know you can. ❤
@@barbaraguinn2522 thanks Barbara :) I appreciate it!
I have a long history of people not letting me near power tools (I’ve been a bit of a klutz) so stuff like this is both super appealing and (previously) out of my reach.
Love this so much. You could even do that burn treatment on it would look so good. You do such a good job teaching all the details I feel like I can go raid my husband's garage for tools to build this on my own 😁

Love to watch you doing things happily 👍😂
This is great!! I have been bugging my husband to build raised beds and he has been a pain about it. With money really being tight and wanting to use a garden to ease grocery costs, this momma is definetly gonna get some raised garden beds this year now that I have seen this! Thanks for the great instruction because now I can do it without waiting for my hubbie to help!!
Dude never let lack of wood stop you. Facebook marketplace. Construction site dumpsters. Dude they had a roofing company sorking on a church roof down the street this early spring. I scavenged twelve foot 2x5s out of their dumpster. I never leave the house without my ratcheting straps. Pick stuff up off the side of the road. There are free supies everywhere. Literally.
the same story here. I totally get you!!
Great to see Tuck's doing well. Hope his trachea is better and coughing subsided. He is the cherry on the cake of every video. 🍒🐕🌾🍀
I'm so encouraged by this example you've given for a raised bed from one pallet.
Thank you. 🇨🇦
Hi James! Great video! (thanks for sharing your knowledge...) specially starring Tuck! I just love him! He is so adorable!
Thank you, James, for always inspiring me. Great idea!
This looks awesome! We get plain pallets all the time at work and let whoever take them, im gonna check for treatment types this week and see if theres any usable ones. Thanks!
Definitely check 😊! I have a relative who works at a manufacturing facility and she has brought me dozens of pallets over the years, some better than others. They don't all need to be perfect because there is always some usable wood. So far I've made four large raised beds from pallets, about 4' x 8'. The first two I made don't look as nice as the one James just put together but still holding up after four years. That's a good return for a weekend project that cost me only time and a box of screws!
We have moles so I would have to put screens on the bottom. Nice project. I will have to do a couple of these. Thanks James and Tuck
Appreciate the step by step. I always wanted to learn woodworking but never knew anyone to learn from. I'm feeling much more confident in tackling my wife's garden plans now.
A wonderful build ! Turning left over pallets into good growing space, Amazing ! Great Video...
I love this simple raised bed. I salvaged a large heap of Jarrah floor boards for exactly something like this. My Mrs has been on my back to get rid of them by chopping them into firewood or something however after seeing this she’s sold and wants the first ones for her flowers. Thanks heaps!!❤
What an awesome way to repurpose pallets. And no hammering the boards off required!
... and ❤❤❤ for Tuck!
Tuck is a Yorkie of love ❤️
This came out so awesomely done. Love watching your videos and Tuck in the summer with his carrots 🥕 and veggies. He’s so cute! Happy dog! 🐾 FYi: you’re really really doing the video for people who get encouraged and they could see is very easy and cheap and free to do this mini garden bed) .But at the same time people don’t have the machinery to cut these things will be nice maybe you could sell these things like a kit with the screws of course (diy mini garden bed) for cheap price since you get it for free even if you can sell it for $10 or $15 + shipping. I think ppl would like this. 🤔🧐 from Pennsylvania! Happy Gardening 👩🏻🌾
Ask your neighbour or colleague who have the tools to build two raised beds out of two pallets together. Improve the neighborhood, improve the garden.

Nice tempo to the presentation. Most diy’s spend too much time repeating the same process. Your’s was spot on. Glad I came across your video. Fun project.
Don’t forget the hardware cloth as flooring before the dirt so that voles and moles stay out. Just a suggestion with the added on cost. Great DIY!

Yeah for Tuck. He made a nice job, even better. 💛💛🧡🧡💙💙
I've seen this done b4 but you really made it look so easy.
Since I have access to some pallets and all I need is one I'll start on that asap. Thank you
I built one out of a pallet yesterday! A complete novice with borrowed tools and it took 2 hours! Thank you so much, a perfect video and easy to follow.
Were you able to cut the nails? I don't have one of these "nail saws". Guess I need to purchase one...
@chriswhitehouse8982 I just hammered them into the wood. You it become too difficult to remove the main thick nails.
Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial! Your instructions are so clear and easy to understand that I feel confident that, even with my limited construction skills, I could successfully create my own pallet raised bed.
Thank you also to your wonderful snoopervisor! 🐾🐾
Something most people don't realize is that most pallets are made our of oak, or some other hard wood; not soft pine, so they are REALLY strong and will last a long time. Hence why you don't want to try to remove the nails as they are REALLY stuck into that hard wood. And, trying to drive nails through hard wood without predrilling the holds will almost always end up bending the nails. GREAT video. I've been wanting to do this for several years now and have access to the pallets. So NOW I'm excited to do it, thanks to you!
Here most if not all are made out of pine. Pine is strong enough for this purpose, sometimes they just double the planks. Oak is way too valuable here to be used for pallets.
The one in the video looks to be pine too.
As for the nails, yes, they are stuck, but that's because they are really huge nails.
Thank you for that caution from the start... understanding what HT and MB means. Appreciate it.
This is exciting! I have access to free palettes and this is downright awesome! You are very clear step by step. I already have all these tools. Thank you. ❤
Awesome, James!!! Just finished the build.
Harvested palates last year so they were nice and dry in my garage. Thank you & The Mighty Tuck for the inspiration!
We have so many scrap pallets at work. What a genius idea.
Tuck is the only RUclipsr who works harder than James.
Fabulous planter for us new to using saw's and things!! I think I can even do this!! Tfs❤
Absolutely LOVE your videos! You and Tuck are one heck of a team and such a pleasure to watch! I recently found someone selling 200 pallet boards super cheap and bought them all for exactly this purpose. You're instructions are so clear and easy to follow, thank you so much for helping me on my gardening journey!
This is much more practical than some of the other videos I've watched on how to make these. I'm not taking anything away from those channels, but their builds were much more complicated, and used a lot of glue-ups, and tools that weren't necessary. These things are designed to live outside. They're not supposed to be ultra-pretty, and perfect because the weather, and time are going to kick the crap out of them anyways.
I say keep the super-duper hardcore nice ones to inside areas like enclosed porches, decks, and places the rain, and wind won't destroy them.
I really enjoyed watching you build the Raised Bed. I just love seeing them with Flowers and Vegetables in them.
This is such a good idea! Thanks 🙏 I’m going to try this out.
