Ultimate Trebuchet DIY Project

This is video of a medieval siege engine called a trebuchet. It is not a catapult as many people don't know the difference between the two. This was the ultimate in siege warfare until the cannon was invented. Mine is 27 feet tall, the throwing arm is a willow oak tree, and the counterweight ranges from 1600-2000 pounds. The projectiles were watermelons, pony kegs, and 16 pound bowling balls. T...

    I did this with a hacksaw, as I don't have a mitre saw. My results were good but cutting through the thin steel housing is not easy as it's very flexible and the saw binds. I can see the real advantage of the electric saw.

    Thank you. I have three 38" windows I need faux wood blinds for. I can only get a 36" and be too small, or 39" that likely won't fit. Thanks for this helpful video. I'll get the 39's and cut them down an inch or so. Super helpful.

    Fantastic video! I contacted Levelor for cutting my Faux Wood blinds down, and they will not budge in providing this service; they said it would violate their warranty on my blinds that already have expired warranties. Thanks, we can play the big business game too!

    • @zoararielbatabba7493
      @zoararielbatabba7493 Год назад

      Their blinds say they can fit windows much smaller for ex a 42"" blind will say on the box: "Will fit windows 36 to 42" Why sell with that feature if you void warranty if you utilize that feature???

    • @bortonbob
      @bortonbob Год назад

      @@zoararielbatabba7493 It's a marketing scheme for sure. I did cut mine similar to the video. When I cut just one blind, the result was perfect, but when I taped them together and cut many of them, the saw blade kept heating up and melting the edges of the blinds, so I had to later file each edge by hand to smooth them out. I had many blinds to cut, and I tried sawing slowly and fast, but the edges still melted. The faster the blade traveled the less the melting. What also helped was placing a wooden board on the top of the blinds while cutting them to prevent the melting blinds from building up past the edges because the melting blind was so hot that a buildup caused melting past the edges. My project involved 9 sets of blinds to be cut, and they look fantastic, but it took much time filing the edges to make them look perfect...I am happy with the results, especially since Levelor would not cut them...they wanted only to sell me new ones.

      The plastic is the same color on the inside and outside. For the metal edges, you have plastic coverings that you place over them.

    Looks like he used a 12 inch Fine cut blade. Fine cut usually starts at 80 teeth but it might be a 90 tooth blade. These are usually for cutting trim. That looks like a 90 to me. The mitre saws typically come with 60 tooth blade out of the factory. You’ll have to purchase the 90 tooth blade snd they are not cheap. Be prepared to spend upwards of $70-$80. If you’re going to cut metal with it, it won’t last long.

    Hey great video and like you say a brilliant saving on your blinds if your more than happy to do a little extra work to take advantage of not having to pay a lot more for the made to measure ones. All I need to do now is find a miter chop saw at a bargain price to do the job otherwise I'm kind of defeating the object of these great savings.. Going to be hard to find one decent for under 250 I'm thinking 🤔
