1980 and my new bride and I cooked up a batch of chili. We both tasted it, and then my wife left to take a shower. I decided to add a generous amount of ground black pepper. When she came out of the shower, then it was my turn. She was giving the chili a stir, and had decided while she was in the shower that it needed more black pepper, so she added a generous amount. When I got out of the shower, I did a taste test, and WOW it was hot. We figured out what we each had done with adding more pepper. She tasted it, and said she wouldn't be able to eat it. I admitted that I couldn't either. So I ran to the grocery store just down the street and bought enough meat, sauce, and kidney beans to make another entire big batch - which we did NOT season, and mixed the two together. It was great. We ate some and froze some and had chili for weeks.

With 1200 acres planted all the kids worked the field except my mom because her job from a very young age was to do the cooking at the house on the wood cookstove. I do not stir my sauce..I put all the veggies in a slow cooker with 2 quarts of bone broth and all the seasonings and let it stew down for 24-48 hours on low then separate the vroth from the veggies, put the veggies in my ninja and pulverize them into a sauce. I use the bone and veggie broth to can up and use at a later time in other reipes. This way I have added veggie nutrition and flavor to my bone broth AND have a sauce full of veggies and tomatoes. My family loves it this way
