    • @MauriceGucci
      @MauriceGucci 2 года назад +4

      did you try losing weight a different way before?
      I’m wondering if IF might be that effective, because it makes it easier to maintain a calorie deficit. Reducing calories while eating 3 meals a day might be more difficult, because you’ll feel less satisfied after each meal as you had to eat less than you’re used to, while IF allows you to eat the usual amount (if not a little bit more) but just for less meals in total. If that makes any sense lol

      @@MauriceGucci Yes, what you said makes complete sense. I tried many diets like cutting sugar entirely, eating 5 meals a day with food that taste like nothing and not enjoyable. I also tried pills, the YOLI program, doing lots of cardio. It all came back! I wanted to eat well and eat foods that taste good without feeling guilty or hungry an hour later. IF worked the best for me and it keeps the weight off. Plus I enjoy eating my 2 meals a day withoutbhaving to compromise good tasting food, or eating the foods I love! 🤗

      It would be more accurate to say he got the Nobel for his work on autophagy rather than for discovering it. Autophagy was discovered in 1963 by Christian de Duve who won the Nobel in 1974: when Ohsumi began to work on autophagy in 1988 autophagy was already known for 25 years !!!
      In 2016 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Yoshinori Ohsumi for the discovery of the molecular principles governing autophagy.

    Back in 2005, I heard Tony Robbins talking about how sugar causes acid and acid causes chronic illness - including cancer.
    The statement that hit home was - ''Cancer can only survive in an acid environment''.
    Our bodies struggle to keep us in a slightly alkaline state, but a bad diet and polluted environment makes this very difficult.
    All of this acid/alkaline stuff ties in perfectly with the Keto lifestyle and the absolute game-changer is intermittent fasting.

      @@سميرابوسالم-غ6ع I felt good. Funny how that everything that bothered my digestive system was gone when I went back to eating. I all of a sudden had no issues with milk/cheese dairy. Or issues with hot sauce. Even my heartburn went fully away for a few weeks even after I stopped taking my meds for it. Ofcourse everything came back as it was a temp fix. But I feel it could be fixed fully with doing fasting more often.

    Excellent presentation Dr Berg. The facts you brought forth can not only improve health, but save lives. A simple test that everyone should do - pick a day - my day starts Friday evening, I eat my last meal - whatever I want (keto/carnivore), then I don't eat again until Sunday morning. If I want a coffee or tea, go ahead, but avoid calories. Sunday morning have your first light meal, by noon you will feel like a king!... or Queen... try it just once... I used to do this each and every week, it became a very natural thing to do. I now do this a couple times a month as I'm building muscle and training for more strenuous calisthenics and crossfit .

    Regarding "ancient pathways", all pathways are the same age, being part of the human design from the beginning. It's all part of the design, as the body was designed with multiple ATP-producing pathways so you don't die after 24 hours without food. Makes sense from an engineering standpoint...multiply redundant subsystems with backup are a good idea in mission-critical systems.
    4:43 - "The mitochondria can use the DNA from the nucleus of the cell..." Actually, DNA from the cell nucleus is REQUIRED to build the mitochondria. A lot of people who have been fed the evolutionary myth of mitochondria arising from a captured bacterium don't understand that the mitochondrial DNA is insufficient to build all mitochondrial structures. The actual science has revealed that mitochondrial DNA must be supplemented by nuclear DNA in order to produce fully functional mitochondria.

    Autophagy can be a game changer in the science of cancer ...in other words we could have preventions from cancer rather than a cure ..makes a lot sense if people make life time changes in there lives.ie.change there diets not eat junk food and lots of excuses...etc....but in fairness not a lot of people do not have that discipline ...autophagy sounds brilliant in science but to put in to action is anyone's choice ...it's my choice to intermittent fasting and do three days fasting 💪 with drinking water and some vitamins supplements........it works I have been thiis strong or fit 💪 in all my

    Hey Dr Berg, When you say you need fuel and it produces oxygen.. would a cancer cel cause you not to sweat during exercise? I randomly became unable to sweat, and I would instead breakout in hives. Went to many doctors that didn’t know what was going on, and one diagnosed me with exercised induced hives. I found your channel and did two 3 day fasts. I am completely cured and enjoy an active lifestyle again. Don’t know exactly how this happened but I am assuming the autophagy got rid of the bad cells that were causing this. Love your channel, and I really think the information I learned from you saved my life.

    I think that it is prudent to say that fasting and autophagy MAY help in regards to (some types of) cancer. This is very new science, so it is premature to make really bold claims. Keto, exogenous ketones, and fasting/autophagy are recognized as perhaps useful ADJUNCTS, or complimentary diets, but not curative. This is much more complex than a 6 minute video, so viewer caution is advised.

    • @afterthesmash
      @afterthesmash 3 года назад

      We _had_ a simple answer for four decades, and it was wrong-headed: too many calories in, too few calories out. As it turns out, to have a vigorous and robust metabolism, it also matters when and how you consume those calories. This is a great deal _less_ simple, but far closer to reality.
      You're using "simple" here as a synonym for nicely packaged at the center of your present understanding. Most people do. You're using "simple" as the original +1 works for me, adored by those whose believe that simplicity should be simple. Right. That's why in the true quest for simplicity, it takes an Einstein to show us how to do it properly.
      The false belief that simplicity ought to be simple is the reason why society (in the large) fell for the phoney explanation that the core underlying problem was merely calories in, calories out, while evidence amassed for decades that the majority of people subjecting themselves to simplistic calorie-restriction diets-especially as packaged by Weight Watchers-ended up on a long-term treadmill of getting fatter and fatter.
      But blame this not on Weight Watchers, but on the faulty willpower of the 80%, because blame is the ultimate rescue of a failed oversimplification, painful rethinking not required.

    Tumor and cancer cells have dysfunctional mitochondrial however they have fully functional lysosomes and can undergo autophagy and as well as phagocytosis. I think speculation is autophagy may prevent tumors but once tumors develop, autophagy helps tumors survive when glucose is low such a situation when a tumor cell lives in the center of a large tumor and do not have access to large amount of glucose.
