    A long time ago, me, my. Brother, and uncle were fly fishing the Truckee River. We pushed through a patch of willows and there was a guy naked as the day he was born after a swim. My uncle doesn't miss a beat and says "how's the fishing?" My brother and I couldn't stop laughing!
    Great location! Great video!

    Awesome! Did a day hike to treasure lakes last week. Only one of them had just a few goldens left that wouldn't bite anything. When I stopped at long lake the brooks were more interested in the strike indicator than my nymph lmao...actually had a bunch bite the little thingamabobber. Still ended up with tons of them from many different lakes, but all were very small.

      Yeah, I got a bunch of fish but they went from small to smaller! Still fun catching them though. Treasure lakes is a spot on my radar. I need to power in a bit further next time.

      @@wildernesswithamani1027 the rock climb up there was pretty tough, and there honestly were not many goldens in there. I don't think that fish and wildlife booklet is updated because #3 appeared to be fishless, only #4 had the goldens, #2 had tons of brookies only, and #1 I only saw literally 2 brookies as compared to the tons at #2. The view was beautiful, but I'll probably try a different place next time for goldens.

    noticed you switched to a lot of fly fishing, is it a preference or an advantage? ive been fishing a spinning reel and rod with some really light tackle, but am wondering why everyone wants to use a fly rod? cant you just tie on the same set up to a 4 pound line? great videos brotha! keep em coming

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  3 года назад

      I throw nymphs on my spinning rod for small creeks sometimes and you will see my do it eventually. How I fish just depends on the situation. I love larger fish on light spinning tackle and 1/8 OZ jigs have become my go to in larger rivers. If it's small brookies like this, my flyrod is my weapon of choice. Reservoirs and Lakes when it's cold and I'm keeping fish to eat, it's mostly all spinning tackle for me. I guess it depends on which of my channel playlists you're watching. Thanks for tuning in.

    • @forestkan6653
      @forestkan6653 3 года назад

      It’s a different style of fishing, totally different feel. Fly rods are able to cast essentially weightless flies easily, which you cannot do with a fly rod. In most cases a fly rod is more effective than a spinning rig due to the fish being so spooky.

      No, illegal with trout in California. I did have a small trout on my line and had a big brown swim up and grab it. I let it have a bunch of line but the tiny hook in the small trout I had wasn't able to transfer to the big guy. It was very frustrating!

      I'm sure at some point. Brookies reproduce easily and take over a lot of lakes so these are probably wild in there. I fished some of the creeks on the way out and they are loaded with tiny fingerlings. I suspect this is the case. Basically, I'm guessing.

      Long lake is a very healthy lake with water flowing in and out the trout spawn every year.

    • @flyguy2021
      @flyguy2021 3 года назад

      Unlike trout, brookies can spawn in spring fed areas of the lake so they are often successful in Sierra lakes even when there’s not suitable habitat in the tributary streams.

    Hi Amani, my name is Chad and I learned a lot about fishing in the mountains of California. I live in Illinois, but I will be in the Newcastle California area from July 10 thru the 17th. I will be bringing my 8 year old niece with me fishing. I do a lot of trout fishing in western Wisconsin but Reservoir fishing is totally different. Would you suggest bringing her to the Truckee area and fish in the reservoirs around there or should I try to fish down by the middle American River and the Rubicon. Just asking for your recommendation on where we can catch some fish while we’re out there. Thank you so much for your help in advance. If you would like to get ahold of me privately, let me know and I will provide my contact info.

      I have a lot of fishing options you can drive or hike to in the Tahoe area and up and down the Sierra on my 'Alpine Lakes' and 'lakes and reservoirs' playlists. For each alpine lake clip, I have a clip detailing the hike on my hiking playlists. Desolation Wilderness and the Molukolumne wilderness are near Tahoe and Winnemucca Lake and Eagle Lake in those areas are easy hikes. I also have how I rig up for deep reservoir trout in my clips 'rigging up for reservoir trout' and 'My general technique for deep water reservoir trout' my fishing tips playlist. The Truckee River might be tough for an 8 year old but when I was 8, I would have tried it so I don't know! Make sure you check the regulations on various sections of the Truckee in order to avoid complications. California fish and wildlife guide has an alphabetical list of trout waters with special regulations so it's easy to look up in the 2021-2022 edition online. Reservoir fishing in the summer can be tough but if you get out there at the crack of dawn and seek out deep water near the dam you could hit fish. Either State license is good on Lake Tahoe so Cave Rock State Park is good for the youngster. Stay to the right, as you face the lake, and the water is deeper. There is a beach at the end of the rock jetty there where you can swim as well. Again, get out there real early! Limited free time has kept me from hitting the Western Side of the range but I fished it for decades so hopefully I'll have more options for you for your next trip. For now, there is a lot of fishing in the Crystal Basin Recreation area between Placerville and Tahoe and I have a clip up for icehouse lake which is one good spot with a lot of deep water. This should get you started. If you have questions about any of the clips you see on my channel don't hesitate to ask them in the comment section. I'll try to answer them as best as I can. It's awesome you're taking the kid fishing. I hope you have great success!

      The Truckee could be tough for an 8 year old but I would have hit it when I was a kid at 8 so I don't know. Maybe check the regulations online in the 2021-2022 California fish and Wildlife guide before you go to avoid complications on various sections of the river. There is an alphabetical chart of trout waters with special regulations that is easy to go through. I have many fishing options you can hike or drive to in the Tahoe area on my alpine lakes and lakes and reservoirs playlists. I also have clips on how I rig up for reservoir trout on my fishing tips playlist. For lakes to hike to that an 8 year old could handle easily, Eagle Lake and Winnemucca Lake are both around the Tahoe area. For all of my alpine lake fishing clips, I have the hikes to them on my hiking playlist so you can see what you might be getting into. For Lake Tahoe, either state license is good on the lake so I recommend Cave Rock State Park on the Nevada side for taking the youngster to . There are some rocks to get around on but it's doable. If you haven't fished water with a lot of large boulders my clip on avoiding snags will help you there! Deeper water is to the right, facing the lake, and there is a beach for swimming at the other end of the jetty. Reservoir fishing is tough in July so seek out the deeper water near the Dam for that option. Jackson Meadows reservoir is real nice. It's awesome you are taking the youngster fishing and I hope you have great luck. If you have any questions about any of the clips you watch, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for tuning in.

      Hi Amani, thank you so much for your help. All I have been doing is watching your videos they are so much help. Your channel is great and super informative. I thought a trip to my sisters-in-laws would be a little boring, but after watching your videos and seeing some of the Beautiful areas you go fish in the mountains, I’m super stoked to be going. I think we will try Jackson meadows and we are definitely going to try Lake Tahoe. I have also been looking at the alpine lakes, because they will have the coolest water in the middle of summer, but I’m not sure how to get to some of these lakes. I don’t see very many roads in the areas west of Tahoe in the high country. Maybe we can take a trip to the mono area for alpine fishing. I think I might try icehouse reservoir by the dam too. Thanks again for all of your help and the great work your doing on your channel.
