    I feel the nonprofit I work for measures what we do, rather than the impact on the community. For example, counting how many meals they provide, rather than measuring how the meals help the community and make recipients more self-sustaining. I do think it would be helpful if we involved people in the community more in our decision making process, as you advised. Also enjoyed listening to the self-care advice.

      I agree with you. Both measures are important-quantity AND quality, especially for funders.

      Yes, exactly. Measure outcomes, not just outputs!

    We are a new nonprofit that “started” in December of 2021. That really means we are building up this year. I appreciate the ideas and am happy I am already working on a lot of these. We just subscribed and I am planning on binging through your videos for insight.

    Any tips for nonprofit for the homeless?

    • @AmberMelanieSmith
      @AmberMelanieSmith  2 года назад

      Hey Jennifer! Definitely check out some of my other videos on getting started! I would say for all issues but especially homelessness, a good first step is to really study the issue and the community where you'd be operating - learn about the other organizations addressing homelessness, meet with them if you can to understand what needs are being met or if there are gaps in services that could be filled, etc.

    I enjoyed this video-great advice. Especially the storytelling tips and self love.
    The one item many are seeing across sectors are hiring challenges-the “great resignation.” So, I’d add to list, pay closer attention to the needs of your employees AND volunteers, as we don’t want to lose good workers, as replacing them is proving to be very, very challenging, especially in the nonprofit sector. Be creative and find ways to make their employment OR volunteering more enjoyable like working from home a few days of the week, limiting potentially unnecessary meetings, delegating more responsibilities, showing recognition for good work, funding personal development training as well as “me” time, etc. It’s always easier and better to keep good employees AND volunteers than it is to lose them and have to replace them.
    Great list, Amber.

    It is so true what you said Amber about having people involved that have been through problematic situations that you are advocating to change. What I have found is organizations have unrealistic expectations, because they haven't gone through these experiences themselves. Awesome job Amber. God bless and have a wonderful week!!Yay, Change makers!
