I have been wanting to start a new project, and I was leaning into getting the base camp as a starting point. The only thing that was holding me back was having to throw away over half of what I was buying. I kept thinking, why isn't there a base camp kit. I'm super excited about this, especially since it comes standard with the new dig kit.
I got 10-2 builders kit then the pro now am getting this because I've wanted one, know I have to buy a third radio and bodies for all three so going to make some overtime at work to get everything yessssssssss
There were 7 videos on this exact kit from different tubers in my feed today including SBG (Matt)..... I just wanted you to know that I chose this one over all others!!....... Just don't tell Matt, he's a bit sensitive. I think it's a Canadian thing? 🤷♀
I need to replace my worn out scx10ii builders kit chassis. I have a trx4 sport kit and love it but don't know if i should buy this or another sport kit. For $30 more I'd get another body, tires, wheels and accessories with the sport kit though
Axial Basecamp Builder's Kit is my "shut up and take my money" moment. Been thinking about the rtr Basecamp but I don't need the electronics, dislike the flimsy body, not a fan of the links. This one fits the bill. Going to preorder asap. Also like the Dig option. I don't mind the straight axle. I have the VS410 with the straight axle and absolutely love it.
Comes with the dig, aluminum shocks, and stainless links. Pretty solid deal for the price! My biggest gripe with the Scx10-ii kit is the crappy gray plastic transmission case, OLD crappy plastic shocks and the super soft aluminum links that stick hard on rocks. But I got mine for $140 when they were discontinuing it and it’s a solid performer at that price still, and I’ve already upgraded those parts.
Idea for the new build. At the Rocky Mountain comp you and Matt just did to, it looked like the good old VW Beetle was coming back into popularity. When you said buggy, that was my first thought, a VW buggy build, full on class 5 unlimited Baja style build for the rocks instead of the desert. What would a Harley Designs caged out VW crawler look like?
I’ve been wanting a scx10 for years was planning to get scx10 ii raw builders kit but then I saw they had the iii base camp kit so I went with that. Think I’m gonna get a half body cliff hanger and the proline back cage with km3 tires and injora bead locks.
This was a no brainer release from Axial and long overdue, but I think they missed the mark. This should have been offered in both portal and straight axle versions at the same time and is too expensive. This should never be north of $250. Glad they included the dig in it though.
Hit the nail right on the head. If they released the same kit but with portals this release would’ve been so much more hype. Getting tougher to get these portal axles now a days since they discontinued the Capra kit and I’m not spending 350$+ on the 10.3 portal kit just to use the axles. From a comp guys perspective, the portals run laps around the straight axles on my terrain and local courses.
Portals are better but the straight axle is more universal for a single kit. I bet the SCX10 iv will have portal options. But for now, if you want a quality portal axle kit, you’re best bet is vanquish 4-10 kit
I like how the pumpkin covers are no longer bright red and how it does not have portal axles. Not so much a fan of the bulky transmission in the middle of the chassis, it gets in the way of interiors. it looks even bigger than it was in the SCX10II. And they kept the tiny receiver box that has the seal in the lid so it falls out when you try to close it. Overal it makes me regret not buying a few of the Bronco's while they were on sale.
The scx10 3 break panhard mount often on shock mount. Replaced in axial metal part. Now the panhard mount breaks at the axial housing . Now replacing axial front axle housing.
gutt it, build the lightest pro comp rig only using the stock parts. Maybe the setup allows you to change the shocks, use bent high clearance links. Do not go for a scale look... compete to win! Show drivers it can be done ;)
I've been getting into planes recently and noticed that many RC aircraft come in what are called Bind and Fly, where the receiver is preinstalled and you bind it to your existing radio or Plug and Play, where you get motors ESCs and servos and add your own complete radio system. You don't see much of this in surface RC (or at least I haven't)... Arrma's EXB rollers come to mind... I think it would be a worthwhile option to have RTR crawlers and trail trucks without accumulating a bunch of unused radio gear...
Losi/Horizon used to offer that in the ground RC world but they just didn't sell. The ground market and air market have a lot of differences like that surprisingly.
Ive recently become interested in this hobby. I know almost nothing about building these things, so it's pretty fun just watching these videos and soaking up the useful info. I really like the FMS Atlas body, so if I were experienced in this hobby and were building a project from this kit, that's probably the style body i would go for. Either that or a 1978 Ford F250 style body. I chose 78 over 79 because i prefer the round headlights. We all have our.preferences though.
Great to see Axial offering the Basecamp in a kit version (not surprising in light of the Pro kit) and providing more flexibility to build, setup and install your own electronics. This kit really hits a sweet spot, giving builders the opportunity to build a very capable chassis at a decent savings over the Pro kit. The addition of straight axles and the new gearbox/dig setup seperates it from the RTR version and should result in better performance. Smart addition to the Axial lineup! 👍 Now, just get over the holes in the links, will ya, lol! 😉
This (maybe) gives me hope they release a SCX6 kit someday. It probably doesn't sell well enough to justify, but as I see it now, I would settle for the Jeep (like it but not love it), and I'm really not a fan of the Honcho. Would be nice to save some money there to get a different body, personal preference in electronics and such.
Seems like axial went all parts. Been special on this. Nothing is bad but they must’ve had a ton of straight axle. Conversion kits just laying around on the shelf and said hey, why don’t we just do this.
Servo’s are a little trickier because of the size. Had to grind a little on the left side for a couple Millimeters on the install or use a bit smaller servo than what I had. The S614 spectrum took off another rig fits fine but not that good performing. What’s the best choice higher voltage range that’s not crazy expensive? 150 seems a bit much. I tried an eco boost 120 here and it’s wider too.
You've got skills. I think you should build the Killerbody Jeep Gladiator body and put it on that chassis. Build it live so we can all have a laugh. : ) Do it! ...unless you're scared.
Should definitely have included what we all call the 'Basecamp' body. I suppose it's nice that there is a discount code for a Proline body, but can we use it at our local hobby shop? Not all of us are living in the lower 49
I was really excited until you got to straight axles. I just want a kit with a simple transmission and portal axles, I guess there's still TRX-4 sport, or Base Camp RTR for some more money, or even the Capra. If you do a buggy, how about something simple to be made with a readily available lexan body and bending templates. Or if you want to do homage like in the 24h mayhem, something deadbolt-esque
I like this. The raw builders kit was awesome. Now this makes it even more awesome. I think this is great. I'll probebly look into one sometime soon. Great review. Do a samurai
What's can you get with like a straight axle and the best of the best but in a package with everything installed including body ..i want something really good but a complete package what would you recommend..out of all the brands.
Whats the best builders kit at the moment? In the UK there's no stock of the vanquish VS410 Pro. Im about to buy my first crawler kit. Is the SCX10 3 BC 2 a good option? (Until I can get a vanquish 😉)
Should’ve been Axial SCX 3 Base Chassis. Why change the axles is it a price saving thing most other kits come with the same axles as the RTR which to me is better parts wise but I guess in the end not a big deal it’s leaps above the SCX2 chassis kit. Looking forward to seeing what people are going to build.
I think its a good move. You can still buy the regular 10iii kit with portals, but with them discontinuing the Early Bronco and the 10ii kit, the only straight axle 10 series you could get is a 10ii Deadbolt or the Pro, so it gives an option with the 10iii
Ahhh. It's better than the 10.2 kit, but I just don't find it appealing personally. I'm not a fan of dig units or that transmission in general. Wish they would have just kept the skid bolt pattern the same as the 10.2 so we could run the vanquish 3 gear. It's still the element builders kit for me when it comes to building a kit.
I suggest a Tesla CyberTruck but a buggy version. I just put a full Hot Wheels CT body on my Bomber and it fit. Someone should make it. Taking it to a Tesla meet. Lots of fun.
Better steering angle with the Axial universals, lower center of gravity, and just more scale focused style axle design. Strength of the TRX4 is hard to beat and the fun of the 2-speed and lockers are big selling points.
Okay I got a challenge for you shorten the scx10 iii bascamp builders kit and mount a tamiya midnight pumpkin body on it 😂 it’s going to be hard but it will look groovy if you can pull it off !
So here's the question. SCX10iii basecamp builders kit or Element Enduro builders kit? About the same price. Both straight axle. One gives you dig the other gives you overdrive. hmmmm
I thought the ar45 axles were portal & the ar44 were straight oh well I'm happy these axles are straight this platform looks great for custom builds my 1st for this will be a Proline 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD I love the SSD Trail King pro kit for my custom Chevy builds, great review Josh you should do a budget build series with this platform use a Jconsepts 1961 Chevy Corvair Lakewood body Moosejaw can paint it black and orange for you lol 😆👍

I'm still running the OG honcho. Might not be new and fancy but it's fun.
A Brat would definitely be different!
...Ya, Josh is definetly "a brat", so that would certainly fit him well !!!! 🤣👏👌✌️
I was going to say something swb like a samurai or beetle, but a brat would we awesome! It gets my vote.
I think last Fridays stream he said he didn't like them 😂😪
I got 10-2 builders kit then the pro now am getting this because I've wanted one, know I have to buy a third radio and bodies for all three so going to make some overtime at work to get everything yessssssssss
Moon buggy would be cool
AMC Eagle!
I'm waiting on the Spacecamp builders kit
There were 7 videos on this exact kit from different tubers in my feed today including SBG (Matt)..... I just wanted you to know that I chose this one over all others!!....... Just don't tell Matt, he's a bit sensitive. I think it's a Canadian thing? 🤷♀
My suggestion is a Jeep Scrambler

So bummed that it is straight axle. With the Pro also being straight I am surprised they didn’t keep the BC kit portal.
Nice looking kit, but I wish they would have used the Early Bronco RTR trans with the forward motor mount instead. Can that be retrofitted?
I was hoping the next builder’s kit would have came with portal axles
Hope in one hand. And shit in the other. See what fills up quicker.
Comes with the dig, aluminum shocks, and stainless links. Pretty solid deal for the price!

Pretty sure my scx10iii early bronco has the cast panhard mount OTB. Another choice nice, thanks for sharing
Woods runner - basecamp!

Finally! I’ve been begging for this since the initial release of the Basecamp! 👍

It is only 244.99 at Horizon with their coupon.

@@shuster1921 sure but it would have been much better if the coupon made it the same price as the old 10.2 kit.

Now that Redcat has released the wheels, you can make a donk!
I like this platform better than my 10.3 jl. I'd totally buy this.
I like how the pumpkin covers are no longer bright red and how it does not have portal axles.

Now they just need to do fully assembled portal kits. Only got a basecamp to pinch the portals.

See you at Axial Fest
I’ve been wanting to do a rc4wd Toyota xtra cab body with the vanquish Phoenix rear bed cage. I think it’d be cool to see that on this chassis
Am going with a commache body for one of mines
Might have to buy one at Badlands if they have them and then build it and run it for the weekend.
Lamborghini body. Pantera body. Fire up the 3d printer!!
The Corvair, Lakewood, body would be cool

If they offered a kit closer to $600, I bet they would sell a ton!
Use one of the carbon fiber bodies you got. Power Ram or Cliffhanger
cliffhanger half cab with tube frame bed baja style
YES! Jeep buggy! GO GO GO!!! 👍✌️
This or the Element 2? They are close to the same price. I'm thinking the Element is the way to go. They crawl very well.
I like your idea of a Jeep Liberty type buggy. I have a Mitsubishi Pajero truggy. It’s nice having something different that no one else has.
Seems like axial went all parts. Been special on this. Nothing is bad but they must’ve had a ton of straight axle. Conversion kits just laying around on the shelf and said hey, why don’t we just do this.
Can killerbody latest jeep gladiator body fits easily to this chassis?
How about you do your Hilux build on that? Would be a good platform for it.
Definitely on the list for another build wjat about another mud truck, loved your first one!!
VW Bug...put that dang chibin fiber body to use...Watched SBGs video immediately after your video....there goes that idea.
Be cool to see you design and vacu- form your own body 👍

Corvair Wagon would look good ...lol
Still not sold on their new transmission but overall it seems like a solid update from the 10ii builders kit
Why don't you like the new transmission?
@@rodblaine2514 it's not that I don't like it, I'm just not sold on it being an upgrade from a "standard" 3 gear.
It's hard to fault the 3 gear transmission. Vanquish Products has some nice upgrades for it too. I hope companies continue to support the SCX10ii.
Idea for Axialfest? Hear me out. A Porsche based crawler. Crazy, I know.
Everyone has already done that! 🙂
Ripper v2! 🎉

Need to do a Samurai body for Axilafest. Everyone will have a Jeep!
How about one of those 80's Nissan Patrol, or Lada Niva lol
Do a Sumo body with cage work.
You should use that mod 14
Nissan hardbody for the front. No one does those. I got a ssd TK and that's what I'm gonna do. Just can't decide on full body or cab and cage on back
How about a Unimog front end pickup truck back end
Welp the new of SA ha me pumped up!!!!

Jeep Comanche that’s what I found or mine from proline just a thought you don’t see any of them around here

You should make a military truck. Maybe a Jeep… Kaiser?
Have the steering issues been fixed?
A minimog¿ Front plus cage?

It looks pretty high...not even talking about the price.😎

Chevy Vega or the wagon version.
Build a truggy with a hard body

Are they the same axels as the pro used ?
no
these are AR45
Scx10 iii kit or element v2 kit
