In college I met up with a former highschool classmate after messaging online for some weeks. It's been 5 years since we last seen each other, and he changed so much. Full beard, weight gain, not scrawny anymore. Still weird to be frank, lol. But I chose not to be fazed by any of that and focus on the person I got to know over the past few weeks.
He asked me out, I excitedly said yes, and we're still together nearly 6 years later. :)
Tl;dr: it's that girl's loss to be living in a fantasy world.

Met one of my online friends this summer (2019) it was awkward at first but then after awhile like 2 hours it was really great. Got to talking just like it was online. I have anxiety and thought for the worst but it ended up being really great. I know many people say this but if you ever want any more online friends 🙋♀️

Same here I've known my online friends for 2-8 years and their pretty much all I have besides my family. My social anxiety hits so hard I even have difficulty talking with my cousins and just overthink pointless stuff outside video games, it especially sucks because I have no idea how I'm gonna survive the real world.
Don't worry it's not always bad. I've met 5 online friends in person and I'm still friendly with 3 of them (the other 2 were unfriended for unrelated reasons down the line). Always awkward meetings at first but that blows over. For general safety, make sure you know them reasonably well and you meet in a public place :)

- Make sure you have known them for 2 years or more.
- Video chat! Make sure they are real. Pictures can be fake. (But dont creep them out with the idea of video chatting)
- DO NOT meet at your house or their house, or any where else besides, PUBLIC PLACES.
- Make sure you bring a frined with you or if you really cant, then tell several people where your going and when. Tell them the person your going to meet and keep your Cell phone close.

Totally agree with you on that. My boyfriend whom I’ve been dating for almost a year (it will be a year in May) and I are planning to meet hopefully in the summer or until the virus situation goes down. My parents know about him which makes it safer. He’s from Virginia while I’m from Illinois and ever since we met through a psychology amino community, we instantly clicked and even when we started video-chatting, texting and calling eachother which helped us loose the awkwardness and feel happy and comfortable with eachother. ☺️
I’m in a relationship now with my current boyfriend, and we’re long distance, I’m from the UK, he’s from America, and he’s so so sweet, but thing is, I haven’t shown him my face properly yet. I’ve shown him my body and stuff but not my face cause I’m to scared. He’s also heard my voice over voice recordings, but I’m too nervous to video chat yet. It’s been 2 months since we started dating I think? So I was just wondering if I should video chat him sooner or later. We don’t plan to meet up any time soon because of course, the virus, but also it’s expensive for flights, and my parents would never let me, plus, I’m 14, he’s 15, so we’re not old enough yet to travel by ourselves.

The funny thing about love is, even if the person you like isn't your "type" look wise, you'll start to love how they look. It's a strange thing. Me and my girlfriend weren't eachother's type back when we met 8-9 years ago, but yeah, here we are 8-9 years later. Also two friends have been living together for about a year now, before he talked to me at first about she wasn't his "type" when he figured out she liked him, encouraged him to give it a shot regardless and they still seem happy. Besides this all, nobody likes their own face. You're dating because he's him and you're you, unless if he's a complete ass it will be all fine. And if he is a complete ass, you dodged a bullet.

EDSBeGaming I knew him from video games on pc we would chat in skype and later discord and became like really close friends in our now friend group of several core people, people who were my friends before and people who were his friends before

I first met my online friends in LittleBigPlanet, I was around 17 at that time. They lived in California and I live in Texas. 7 years later we met up, not awkward at all and it felt like we had always hung out in person. We spent the whole day at Disneyland and it was awesome! I visit them at least once a year now. Online friends are real friends :)

I had an online friend from Scotland. We met through discord because he had this goofy ass laugh when he was high that would set me off. We both got kicked from a room for laughing at each other while the others played CSGO. So we added eachother. We talked for days on end, stayed up for nights and we’d talk about our depression and so on. We got super close and we finally talked about meeting up after years of knowing each other. Me and my other friend were going to go down in July to see him and relax at his house after he suffered an awful breakup. We were hoping to cheer him up. Before we got the train tickets and hotel booked he committed suicide. This is my second Christmas without him and I make sure to check in on his family yearly. His mom sent me a box of his stuff so I could feel closer to him.
This Christmas I sent him a game like we’d do for eachother every Christmas. The biggest gift I could receive is him accepting it and letting me hear his goofy ass laugh again.
I regret nothing. The years of love and laughter he gave me was worth the pain.
That's amazing yet, upsetting... Your friend had a good life and at least you made his last moments great before he takes his own life...

I have a meaningful tattoo for him and we're planning a roadtrip to go to his grave so we can all hang out like we planned together, and hopefully get some closure.

We had an idea to move in together as roommates because we never fought and were friends for awhile, and i also needed a place to live. I am now dating him. I don't really get the thing with not being attractive enough when meeting online friends. If you harmonize with people for months or even years because your characters happen to match so much, why would looks be able to destroy all that?

I mean, if they showed them a photo that looked way diffeent than the people might just be surprised that they look so different. Also, like it or not but attraction is kind of an important part of a relationship. But other than those conditions i dont understand why people would break friendships and stuff over it.
My online girlfriend is terrified of this happening even though I've been telling her for years that all I care about is how I'm treated. It's a plus that she just so happens to be gorgeous to me. Even in the photos she adamantly complains are ugly. I just can't wait to see her smile and feel her gaze in person.

I met my internet friend of 4 years for the first time on Dec. 13th after impulsively booking a flight to her state (we had joked for years of one of us booking a flight to each other's place for food honestly) One of the greatest moments and decisions of my life and her family quickly accepted me as if I was one of their own. It was both weird and amazing to finally see the person I've only been able to text, call, and video chat with in person. Even though the week we spent together went by quickly we had such a good time and created so many memories I don't think either of us noticed. We were both just so happy to actually be able to be near each other.
And then came the day I had to return home. I don't normally get emotional during goodbyes, but it hit different when her and her dad were waving goodbye to me at the gate. It took every bad bitch bone in my body not to cry on the flight. My playlist didn't help much either as every song that played reminded me of our time together. I thought it'd be weird texting each other after finally being able to just talk and see each other, but nope. It was as if nothing had ever changed and now we're back to texting close to every day. The good news is that I plan on going back in the summer (this time with a solid plan set) and making more awesome memories with her!
Update: as of 6/6/21 we've officially reunited! This time we're spending two weeks together and so far I've had nothing but a great time! Definitely able to enjoy each other's company more this time around and get a lot more photos and videos. Even though our summer vacation isn't over yet I can already say it's been the best one I've had in a long while!

I wanted to kind of brighten something up. I was in a very similar situation when it came to being suicidal and having a close online friend. We found each other through art and our mutual love for Zelda. I was very suicidal at the time. We planned on meeting up one day. She lived close to my grandparents but it was half way across the U.S. and every time I tried to end it, I’d think of her. I didn’t want to just ghost her like that, (we talked everyday). So I always decided against it. I actually met her this year in late spring! I’m so glad I got to meet her. We met each other at a ramen place and it surprisingly wasn’t awkward. I’m so grateful for her, she saved my life. She’s an amazing person.

2:43 I’m scared..... I met my bestfriend ( a guy ) on minecraft we became incredibly close and he was extremely suicidal and depressed and after I tried helping him for YEARS at our young ages he finally said “I’ve stopped hurting myself.” I was so happy I cried because I finally helped him truly.
Two weeks later I found out he had killed himself. And he wrote about how much he loved and cared for me in his suicide note.
I miss him so fucking much. I’m a girl btw so the story is the opposite of the one you read at 2:40. I was always a very positive happy girl but when he committed suicide I got extremely depressed which caused a butterfly effect shaping who I am today.

i once had an online relationship. it lasted for a little over a year. when i first got with her she was great and i was really happy. then slowly she got more and more controlling and manipulating. she would not let me leave my house. if i left i’d get cussed out for hours or even days. me being a patient person and a forgiving person i waited and just kept giving her chances to get better. i finally couldn’t take it. i got into a car accident and was inches from death and she said i deserved it. that was the last straw. i broke up with her. 3 months later and she is still making new accounts to harass me with. i am never ever online dating again and i am so happy i didn’t let her visit where i live like i was going too. be safe and careful out there boys and girls. and merry christmas :)

You’d be surprised by how easily someone can create an entirely false persona online through not only images but what they post and the way they speak online. Some of those fictitious profiles can run PRETTY deep.

I had met a girl that had much things in common with me when I was younger. I remember that she had an animation channel on RUclips and she was quite popular, I was inspired by everything that she did.
Sometimes we still talk to each other in Discord, I'm really proud of her and have immense respect as a fellow artist.
I knew this one guy I had spoken to on Discord for about a year and had regularly played Overwatch with him and his mates. We pretty much spoke everyday and played together all the time and happened to be interested in the same music. Fast forward to when I buy a plane ticket and meet him along with his friend of a few years and his brother and some of his cousins to go to a concert.
He ignores me for majority of the time, when we went out to go clubbing he left me at the club and didn’t text/call to tell me they were leaving and whenever I tried to interact with him, he seemed like he didn’t want me there.
It was the most confusing moment for me because we had heaps of conversations about various topics, joked around and were very social people, but he completely ghosted me in person? I felt so left out and unsatisfied even though I loved the concert. It was a great experience but I wouldn’t do it again...

I met this guy on an online chat room through a mutual fandom. For about four months we talked, getting to know each other and such, skyping. On my birthday he must have said happy birthday about 20 times before I responded- the next day. It turned out he was trying to get my attention because he wanted to tell me he liked me. We started dating, it went on for a a little over a year. We got along very well, he was the sweetest person I'd ever met, but he always fell asleep at random. I didn't think much of it. We made plans to meet each other, and I drove 16 hours to go to prom with him. When I met him I cried immediately. Everything went exactly as we'd imagined it would. I hugged him tight, I never wanted to let go. Prom was exactly how every hopeless romantic dreams prom would go because of movies. It was all perfection. Meanwhile my parents were hanging out with his for the night. When I got back home to my parents for the night they were acting strange, but they didn't tell why. The next day we went to the Zoo. I was sort of fighting with myself at this point because he was so far away but I loved him so much and meeting him sort of made it real. I tried to find something I disliked, but quickly anything I found I loved instead. We went to see Avengers Infinity War and then I went home, and that was the last time I saw him. I knew it would be. All night I cried. No one could console me. I hated knowing I probably wouldn't see him again, or I'd have to wait for years before we had the ability again. I found comfort eventually in the fact he might visit us next time, until my parents talked with me about what they'd learned. He had a heart infection. There was a dip in his chest, which could grow to be fatal. He was really sick. His mother was also in poor health, but wanted to try and get him to me. It was all becoming too much, and I didn't do anything for two months. After we'd met in person he started falling asleep and staying asleep way longer. Forgetting our conversations. Forgetting to even talk with me. I felt so selfish trying to get away, but I had to care for myself. I ended up breaking up with him, and it broke both of our hearts. I still haven't gotten over him, and he hasn't gotten over me. On Valentine's his mom called me, and she admitted he'd tried to contact me. He genuinely believed we were still together, and talked about me all the time. I feel like a monster. I miss him every day.
Why don’t you go back with him since that you miss him so much? Like even if he might have a heart infection (disease?) or not, it shouldn’t matter. If you love each other, go for it. Stay together until the end. Otherwise all you’re left with will be regrets.

I think I had to go through this to meet the man I’m with, endgame. Sometimes I still think about the guy I wrote this about- I feel badly, or I miss him here and there- but it’s not because of the health problems that I left, not really- it’s because of the distance. I knew he wasn’t going to be able to visit, not really. I don’t think he wanted to get a job, not really. He didn’t have a plan for the future, didn’t want to. Every time I wanted him to make a move to see each other, it was met with reservations. He was shy, and sick, and in a deep state of arrested development. As much as we loved each other, I moved on so that I could follow my path. I didn’t want to sacrifice it if he didn’t want to pave one with me. I didn’t want to drag him around instead of him wanting to walk that path with me. We were at very different stages of life. Sometimes I wish we could still be friends, but I probably could not be friends without falling back in love. And my partner now- he’s a dream come true. I love everything about him. It’s a different, new love- a healthy love, one I want to nurture, and not a love that makes me ache, and feel unsure of myself. I wish nothing but the best for that ex, he was a good, kind person. But we were not meant to be.

I have quite a long story of my own, a few years back I had this group of friends in a game and I was really good friends with all of them and there was this girl in the group too who was one of my friend's gf.
I later realized that she was kind of messed up (up to this day idk if its a health issue or she was just plain stupid) The guy she was dating happened to be one of my best friends and such a sweet person too, but she made it clear as time went by that she was suicidal by sending us some japanese videos of ppl self harming and we thought it was weird as hell, I should also mention she was an attention whore and if someone didn't talk to her for 5 mins she would type: :/ in chat and we would ask her what's wrong but she always said:...Nothing... It always pissed me off cause I knew exactly what she was doing, she treated my friend badly by playing with his heart and making him cry over unnecessary shit, she LOVED drama and I had a crush on her bf but really and truly I never took action out of respect (ofc). Long story short, one day my friend comes all frantic and asks me if I had seen her around and I didn't, we were all so worried and he was crying, he then checked his email and turns out she sent him a goodbye letter and we all thought she committed suicide, my friend was devastated and 2 days later we found out through mutual friends that she had changed the name of ALL her characters so we couldn't track her down. She literally wanted to hurt my friend for nothing when she supposedly was crazy for him... She's plain crazy to me.

Oh boy. My best friend got married recently and we had a couple of online friends that came to his bachelor party and all of us being into guns, we naturally went shooting together for the bachelor party. Now one of our online friends (we’ll call him Jeff) had never shot a gun before. So naturally we went over all the regular gun safety stuff. Finger off the trigger until you’re ready to shoot, don’t point it at anyone, etc. but something seemed... off... he seemed very normal when we talked to him online but after meeting him we’re pretty sure he has some mild form of autism or something. Was a very scary day as he had multiple negligent discharges, somehow shot the entire day without hearing protection and was unphased by this (although he was nearly deaf by the end of the day) and would regularly have no consideration of his surroundings and what everyone else was doing. Like we would take a break from shooting to load magazines and such and be talking and then he would just start blasting away while none of us had hearing protection on. So yeah... that’s my most “interesting” story of meeting an online friend.

I had a online boyfriend that I really liked for a year but realized that the distance between us would never disappear since he was sick had two prosthetic legs and was in the hospital most of the time he isn’t dead now he is still alive and I talk to him sometimes we are friends now not very close friends but mutual friends, it makes me sad knowing he still likes me

Thanks this reminded me to message my best friend who also had muscular dystrophy but we both get so busy with our families that we don't see each other as much. He's the strongest person i know and out of all of the phsically fit individuals i know its him that inspires me the most with his mental resilience and his ability to raise a family despite his condition.
