Slept round my mates house with 5 other lasses, was watching a movie and i guess they all thought I was asleep. This girl who just started hanging out in our group started commenting on how stupid I looked all the time and how I was fat and ugly, then she started laughing to herself, but no one else laughed thankfully and told her that she was being sly.
I swear I felt my heart drop when I heard that come from sumn1 who just gained my trust so I turned around and just stared at her for like 10 seconds. She defo knew I heard and it was awkward the rest of the night
We dropped her a few weeks after that happened cos she started spreading rumours abt me for no reason. Idk wht her problem was against me, I was always nice to her and included her in things. Wht hurt me so much abt this was I literally just got over body dysmorphia and bulimia, those few comments catapulted me right back into that for a while. Don’t even get me started on the shitty things my dad would say before I got taken off him

    “Take your art and leave.”
This isn’t the most hurtful thing ever, but I’m a lifetime artist and I’ve been drawing ever since I was at the age of 4, so I fairly know my way around art. One day I decided to draw out my favorite character doing a different scenario, and my supportive friend suggested, “Yknow, your art is really good… you should really post it online.” I take her advice and finally post my first piece of art online, which was that one and I was very proud of it. It had taken me the entire week and didn’t look like much, but it was exhausting to figure out.
I don’t look at it for a few hours but I check back and see that there’s 400+ likes, so my hopes are lifted up. I then look at the comments section, and out of 67 comments there are 2 nice comments saying “Guys, they probably really working hard on this, can you leave them alone?” as 90% of the comments were, “That doesn’t look like him at all,” “Get this out of my eyes,” and “Take your art and leave.”
To me, it’s the equality of saying that anything I do to prove a talent is worthless to me. I was especially hurt because I had two close friends who thankfully were supportive of everything I did.
Ever since that day, I’ve always refused to post my art up again.

When I commission an artist I always wondered how they can work with so many people being art is very subjective, but one told me it's about the community you can form around it and the honest people who stick around that matters rather than the jerks who throw in an insult and scram, because art really is subjective and it's very important to the people who make it, hence why you really learn to brush off rude comments and trust wanted criticism from those you ask from, and stream to the people who want to join to watch rather than make a nasty comment for that small pointless moment of self gratification due to their own insecurities.

"Man, how would her life be when she get married?" "I know right, poor her future husband has to smell her terrible odor all his life!" Not really overheard, more like they knew I would hear them.
I go to a boarding school and was washing my clothes in the bathroom. Two seniors came in and gave each other that 'look' when they saw me. Was also struggling with body issues, people say my body smells terrible all the time, no matter how much soap I use, how many times I use deodorants a day, and how much perfume I use. I've heard others say worse things behind my back, but that incident broke me so much since they said it loudly, knowing I would hear. Just shows that no one in that school respects me as a human. I never washed my clothes in the bathroom whenever there's other people using it ever again.
I moved to a better school this year and I don't have to wash clothes as much cuz this school has a self-serving washing machine. The students and teachers are also nice and supportive. A month in this new school is better and happier than the three years I spent in my old school.

My parents sent me to Canada to study while I was in elementary. Due to some financial conditions my parents couldn't move with me and pay for my tuition at the same time so they decided that I should move in with my aunt. At that time, it seemed like the best idea as my aunt was the sweetest and caring person I knew, and had always looked up to her in every way. But just after a few days of moving in, I heard her over a call with my teacher calling me fat, incompetent, and a dramatic kid! Plus, the whole conversation on the speaker where the teacher seemed to disagree but sadly my aunt didn't. Needless to say, it crushed me.
So, I decided to starve myself and limited myself to have some bread and water for all of my meals for some weeks until I passed out during class, was then taken to a hospital and one of the nurses tried to call my aunt and on the fifth call she picked up to scream at her not to disturb her as she was sleeping.
My aunt was the only one who lived in the country and I was passed out so they call the police and they went to my aunt's house and found her wasted in the apartment. Somehow, my parents were called and explained the whole situation. The problem almost got to the court but somehow my parents handled it and the next thing I knew my aunt was disowned, in jail and I was flying back to India.
It was later found out that the bread I was having as my meals had something which caused me to survive on it for weeks and made me lose weight fast.
So, a huge thanks to my aunt to give me anxiety and a hormonal imbalance due to which I got my periods at 10, now stand at 4'11, and can't gain weight for the rest of my life. How lovely🙃

I barely spoke for the rest of the school year after that but it took me a few years to stop being friends with her since I didn’t want to deal with the confrontation, and all her old friends stopped talking to her because she would shit talk them too which made her contact me more. She ended up moving schools and I blocked her number immediately.

Its good you haven't seen them since. They are negative people so for them to disappear from your life, makes yours better. Don't keep people like them around because it shows they are using you and aren't your proper friends.
Proper friends don't leave others out. Proper friend don't disclude one person because they feel like it.
They were never your friends. As hard as it is to find new friends, I believe you should. :)
Don't wait for them too. They don't deserve your friendship at all. Leave them be.
Instead of focusing on them, focus on yourself, on how you can make yourself better and your life better.

I had a school play in my senior year, I was dating this girl named Alayna. She was in the changing room with her friends and I was in the other putting on some clothes. I listened to their conversation as they didn't know I was in the room next to them. I heard her friend ask "How are you and (my name)?" and my girlfriend at the time replies with, "I'm gonna break up with him tomorrow so I guess not so good." I didn't get it, I left the building and sat outside on the curb waiting for my mom to pick me up. In the car ride home I felt lost and useless, I never argued with Alayna. I didn't know what I did wrong, guess she just lost feelings.
Plot twist: I've been dating her sister for 3 months now

My family speaks Arabic, and I'm the only one who doesn't understand it. Or so they thought. I can understand them well, and my mom trash talks me right in front of me, not expecting me to understand. She usually talks about how bad I am at things because I fail a single part of a simple task. I still haven't told her, and it's a secret I'm gonna keep for a long time. To this day it makes me paranoid about how others think and talk about me when I'm not there. Kinda sucks, but you just gotta pog through the pain.
Edit: Holy crap this blew up, thanks for your kind words everyone! I guess I should at least give an update on what I want to do about this. Most of you guys suggested that when I graduate/move out I should confront them in Arabic. This is actually what I've been planning to do for a while, but I just want the perfect moment to drop that bomb on them. I'm probably going to tell them right before I move out, just to avoid that very awkward time after the conversation. If anything new happens, I'll try to remember to put an update here.

Tw// talking about body image, anxiety..
I was 16 at the time. I had never felt any kind of major insicurities about myself even tho my dad was constantly picking at some of my imperfections , but I still was trying to figure out what kind of person I was, and I was also really naive about my surroundings.
One day, I heard one of my school friends talking to another boy, asking him if in his opinion, I was fat. I heard him answering 'she's fucking obese'. I wasn't and I still am not even slightly overweight, and even if at the time I might have had 5 plus kgs or something like that, it had never been such a problem for me. Hearing that, completely destroyed me that day. I remember crying until the end of school and even the whole day at home. A lot of my classmates tried to comfort me, they all told me not to listen to him and many other complimented my body saying that he was just a jerk. But I couldn't listen to them. This basically led me to developing some kind of body dysmorphia, I hadn't been able to look at my body properly for years. He probably wasn't at fault for everything that happened next in my brain, but t was definitely the starting point. I couldn't go out or look at my own self in the mirror, or on the other side, I would obsess over my looks, body checking everytime I could, going on diets I couldn't keep up or extreme workouts routines I wasn't prepared for.
I even started losing weight at some point, but I couldn't see it, and everytime someone made me notice it, I thought they were just lying to me to make me shut up and stop complaining about my looks.
I also came to know that my ex best friend had said to my current best friend 'I'm tired of her always repeating the same fucking stuff, it's just annoying' (not literally, she said it in Italian lol, but that's the point). She was the only person I relied on at the time, and i used to vent with her hoping to feel better, so that also had a huge impact on me. Years later, I have figured out I have really bad anxiety and I tend to hyper fixate on random things because of that, and I'm currently getting help from a psychologist. I am definitely doing better even tho I was going back in that spiral last year, but the pain I feel looking back and remembering how this all started is still here, and will take a lot of time to go away..
Writing this, I realized how much words can hurt. I've been told many times by my dad that I'm good at nothing, that I will never find love, that my behavior sucks and that it's 'no wonder I have no friends' (which... Is not true at all? I'm actually very friendly and lovable towards people I care about. It's rare for me to dump people, I often get used instead because of how much I attach myself to others).... Soo, all of that just to say, please be kind to people. Words really do hurt, and if you say them to the wrong person, you don't know how many things it could ruin in their life, while you're probably out there living your happy life, not realizing how much the other one is struggling.

Ex: like you wanted the boy who insulted you take back what he said after your effort to change. And as you said the positive things said to comfort you just don't do it.
Your friend might reach her limit from repetitive scenario.
Just know there is no single answer and there is always negative ones.
Try to believe what your friend said, some people don't like your looks and to some you are normal

one night i was camping in the woods with my scout troupe. i was in the tent with my 3 closest friends from the group (we were all 14 & 15). so, a few months before that camping trip, one of the girls in our friend group had committed suicide. it was hard on the whole troop, but especially us three because we were VERY close to her for many years. anyway, that night, some other girls were sitting at the campfire, talking about the situation, thinking we were all asleep. i was asleep, but my friends heard one of them talking about how my friends & i “definitely could have done something to prevent it”. then she said more horrible things along those lines that i can’t remember. i know it’s not true at all, but it still messed with my head a lot when i was younger. losing a close friend in that way at 14 is terrible. but knowing a group of people are showing sympathy to your face, yet putting blame on you for it behind your back? that really adds to the overall sorrow...

I was a freshman in high school and overheard this girl who had a crush on my friend Sean say that he had a crush on me, that she didn’t know why because I looked like a bitch and that she hoped I caught AIDS.
For context, my uncle had died in 1994 to AIDS (though, I hadn’t told any of my friends that because it was twelve years later and he’d died eight days before my first birthday- so it wasn’t important for them to know). He was left to get bed sores and sob, constantly in pain, because back then AIDS was seen as the “gays disease”. There wasn’t an affordable cure so his only option was death. And before that would end his suffering, he would drop from a healthy athletic man of 153lbs to 82lbs, have a tube put in his throat without anesthetic (not even local to numb) because all of his veins had failed from blood and water loss but they needed the tube in so he could breathe, and worse, he was starved and dehydrated before his heart finally gave out.
To her, it was just a petty jealous insult but for me it was the cruelest thing you could put out and into the universe. I lost an uncle to it, his wife was now sick and living with it (thankfully she’s alive today because of the timing of her catching it), and their son was born with it and fought it off. It was fucking sick.
But I never told Sean what she said and guess what? He still didn’t want her. To this day she has a crush on him and tries to convince him into a date. Over ten years later and she still isn’t good enough. So fuck you, Sara.

My best friend in high school was making fun of me when he thought I wasn't around to overhear. He was the kind of guy who would want to hang out only when everyone else was busy, (which I was unaware of at the time.) After HS graduation, I was in a bar, and he came in with a group of his friends. (They didn't see me.) I came over to their table just in time to hear him say terrible things about me. I didn't confront him and left. A week later, he called me and wanted to know if I wanted to hang out. I told him I was busy. Afterwards, I was always "busy" when he called. It sucks when you find out that someone who you regard as a friend, is two faced. I wasn't even the low man on the totem pole to him. I was the part that was stuck in the ground.

My grandmother on my fathers side has always been narcissistic in the way she speaks to/with others. I had helped my Grandmother with a ton of work restoring her house. She had guests over one of the days when I was changing the outer doors of her house. I overheard her complaining to the guests about how "NOBODY ever wants to help her with anything" (even though I had been there for MONTHS helping her on my free time after work). This did not just like a punch in my gut. But I became genually angry. The way she said it, made it sound so real, it truly hurt. I have only been truly angry a couple of times in my entire life. My Grandmother has always been a master at saying thing that hurt. She never seems happy about anything. Anyone reading this might think, "well that might be because she is old and old people hurt alot" but no. She has been like this her entire life, according to all her children and ex husband (My grandfather)

It hurt hearing that from his friend because I already felt like I wasnt good enough for him and that he could do better. My man looked at him dead in the face and said "the hell is that supposed to mean?" And his friend shut his mouth real quick. Him sticking up for me made me feel better but the look on his friends face when he saw me is permanently burned in the back of my mind.

As they were talking on our group chat, I heard A saying "well, you know, maybe Dante is a complete failure, but not everyone is like this. Maybe you will find a friend you need some day, there is plenty of beautiful people out there". I have no idea if he was thinking I won't see this, but yeah, I did and it hurt like hell. Especially when B agreed later on to me that he thinks I'm not really interesting and he would never talk to me by himself. He didn't mean to say that he regrets that, he admitted that I'm a great friend, he just honestly said that I don't look like an interesting person and I should work on that. I’m a mixed girl, my parents are interracial so I have curly hair. It’s important. I was spending the night at my grandma’s, she was my world and we were so close. Because I grew up with the white side of my family, I didn’t know anything about maintaining curly hair. I didn’t know I was so supposed to wrap it or put it in a bonet at night, and when I did my mom would laugh at me and call me ghetto. So I didn’t do anything with my hair at night and just slept. This caused my hair to knot and get nappy the same night because you’re supposed to wrap ya hair 👏🏽 well, my nana is a heavy drinker every night and I woke up to go pee. As I was walking back to bed she literally screams at me to take a shower. Calling me nappy headed and saying I’m disgusting like my fathers side of the family. She literally screamed it at me the whole way back to the couch in the other room. I was humiliated and cried my eyes out. It’s been a year and two and despite what anyone says I wrap my hair because I educated myself on caring for it. Me and my grandma don’t have same inseparable bond that we used to have. I’m a bit distant. I do forgive her though, but that did hurt me. I was around 13 when it happened... I took showers ofc, it’s just the fact that my hair was nappy at night that disgusted her I’m guessing... I have 3c/3b hair so it’s pretty curly. White parents, educate yourselves on curly hair and how to properly deal with it so you don’t have confused children. Thank you.

These were things I was trying desperately to hide at the time. It was in regards to a pretty bad relapse, that they only found out about because my school nurse did a surprise search. I already didn't trust my therapist as she threatened to hospitalize me several times, but after hearing her tell my parents that my biggest secret was a ploy for attention, because "there isn't anything that bad" happening in my life? Something about how I should have just died in my car wreck, because with my injuries I was never going to amount to anything and just got in the way...
This was less than a year after a deadly wreck where I shattered my spine(they had to piece it together like Humpty Dumpty LITERALLY), broke both legs and lost all my memories....
I didn't even know my own name for days.
Because she wanted to sit her bag on my desk, and when I made it to school still in a turtle shell(as the glue on that vertebrae I shattered was still settling) and a wheelchair, well it just upset her day so much to have to put the bag on the floor.
Everyone took it personally that I couldn't remember them.
Began acting like I didn't WANT to, and that's what my problem was.
And the nurse wondered why she kept having ppl come in for ice packs due to a cane.
    Prank me?
    Steal my stuff?
Make it that much harder to make it to school?
    Ha.
Once I started getting mems back they started regretting.
They had been taking my bag and putting it on a high shelf(teachers let them and even egged it on)...
The second someone went for my bag I start whipping my cane over their knuckles.
When they tried to flip my wheelchair as I rolled between classes, I made sure to protect myself.
One got a cane to the ribs, the other had a swollen jaw that whole week.
I knew who did it, could see the injuries.
Even told the principal who they were and what injuries to look for.
    Nothing.
I feel no regrets for defending myself, despite having broke one guys tooth and prolly fracturing the others rib with how hard I hit.
No one tried to flip me again tho.

Just few weeks ago the person I used to call my ^best friend^ yelled at me saying I have no feelings, I don't care about my friends & I'm just an insensitive selfish feelingless person. She told me more stuff but imma just put the relevant stuff here... Just wanted to tell you that you are not alone. Your personality is completely normal, there are more people like you.. just because you struggle showing emotions doesn't make you a bad person. Don't change who you are, change who you keep around ❤️

A while back, when my parents were still together, they got into a really large argument.
I was in romantic relationship with my best friend and I heard my dad yell, “I don’t understand how (BF’s Name) can love that disgrace of a girl!”
I felt so hurt and then later on my bf cheated on me.
I could care less about my ex at this point, he barely crosses my mind now but, it’s what my father said that really did hurt.

I can still remember my dad complaining about me being an incompetent useless kid that never does anything right and his wife calling me an absolute failure. Makes my sense of self-worth plummet down even more.

“She’s turning into her grandmother” I overheard my brother say to my mom once. At that time, I had undiagnosed autism, anxiety, adhd, and dyslexia. My grandmother has bipolar and hated my mom, treated her like shit, and only wanted her to get married so she could leave her house. Hearing my brother compare me to my psychopath of a grandma scared me, and I never had bipolar, me and my brother just have that sibling dynamic, always fighting over stupid shit but then apologizing afterwards and laughing it off.

My mum says that I am back chatting, when she doesn't like what I am saying/doing. She never actually listens to what I say. I am 23 and she still expects me to ask her for permission to go out, and if I don't, I basically live in hell. I pointed out that it was draining and that I shouldn't have to ask for permission. She said that I was back chatting and then, since that started a trend of her not liking what I was doing, she said she hated me a few days later

I remember going over to an in-laws house of my boyfriends. Weird because in an Asian family you're always expected to "help" cook, which I'm okay with at times, but not someone who I'm not close with. I was already feeling awkward. Right after the vist my boyfriend sent me home and we talked on the phone for a bit. He was still at his in-laws and the mother of the family said "why are you dating a girl like that?" Something along those lines in hmong. It hurt. My boyfriend asked if I heard what she said and I lied to him that I didn't hear it.
I always think to myself that they aren't really close family, but my boyfriend is friends with all of them. To this day, I still didn't tell him, I'm just insecure all the time...
