Dude I cried. I cant imagine the pure sorrow, sadness, grief, mourning, etc. Just imagine you leave and your dad just knows that you'll never see each other again. Not even a hug as they left. It's so sad.

In a situation like this I can stand in both shoes and that's what fucks me up most..... I can relate to the pain from the mean parent and I can feel the need to escape but I can also feel the pain of knowing that you upset someone so much that they have to run away. I hate that I can feel that but it's also a good thing.... I can see from both perspectives and it helps me to understand how to react and how to compromise w/ the person so it doesn't become a fight.

I still remember what my mom tould me about her boss.
Her boss is a nice women. Around 50 at this point. I asked why she wasn't marriend and thats when my mom tould me.
She had a fiance when she was 29. They where planning their wedding, she was pregnant (she didn't know yet) and everything seemed well.
A day. I kid you not. A day befor the wedding he is gone. He doesn't come to an appointment they had together for their wedding.
She never finds out what happend. Assumes he left her.
Years. A solid decade later (not with her son), she finds out he died in a car crash.
He didn't have parents or close friends besides her. So there was no one that could have contacted her about it.
Hearing that for the first time made me cry

I get these stories. People escaping abusive or toxic situations is completely understandable. I just can't sympathize with people who pick up and leave because "things got hard". My dad left me 3 times. Only reason he got the latter 2 chances is because the first time, I was 2 years old and my mom was an impressionable 22yr old who had just gotten back from a deployment in Kuwait (US Army). He cheated on my mom several times, each time she let him back because she wanted it to work for her kids' sake, for her marriage, for everything. He left for the last time back in February. We never had a well developed relationship, but he still tries to text and call me like he's done nothing wrong. I have no desire to talk to him anymore. He left my older siblings when they were around the same ages as me (17 yo M) and my younger sister (14yo F) . My baby siblings (6yo M, 4yo F) don't understand. They just know he doesn't live with us anymore. I have no love for a dad that leaves. No sympathy, understanding, nothing. My dad always said he wanted to see me grow and be a better man than he could ever be. I will, but he won't be there, and it won't be for him. It'll be for my kids, my wife, my mother, and the siblings that I love more than he ever could.

You are right, I pray for your family and hope they all are cared for except your father. He is a terrible human being for leaving and cheating and deceiving your mother multiple times. She is emotionally strong and I hope you know that both you and your family are amazing for being able to overcome this :)

STH Gotta say this hit close to home. Or well it’s just a house now.. but yea my dad cheated on my mum last year January. It sucked. A lot of unwanted emotions, bad times and the feeling of complete utter betrayal. At first you are totally stunned how someone could do this to their family. But I’d always had a feeling, my parents weren’t in love anymore, there was only so much time before the divorce. I feel it could had turned out in a better way than it did.. having my dad do this to my mum. My younger brother was about 10 at the time, I’d never seen him so quite before, he was in complete heart-shattering shock. I was also quite as well of course. But it was more curious and heartbreakingly painful. The wish to lift the burden from my brother.. was so strong. My mum said not to tell him about an incident that had happened following up to the divorce. I guess it was to protect him from it. I feel it would’ve been best to ease him into knowing instead of straight away. I still have flashbacks to it every now and then, just a little glimpse of the past. It hurts. But I will eventually forgive and never forget. I have slightly forgiven him though, he has acknowledged what he did wrong and said he doesn’t spend a day not thinking about not regretting what he did. He’s getting better.

Cousin did this, told my grandma he was going to the gas station for some smokes and beer. Next day his wife gets a call that he shot himself in his truck.
He had a baby girl on the way, she is the cutest little 6yr I love her so much cx. I do wish her dad got to see her though he was a great man

@@stevepicchi8986 Yeah it was traumatic for me, long story short he had depression and we didn't even know. I was 13 at the time lived with him in 2013 and made a good bond. Once I left I suppose he went back to drinking from what I heard and just didnt get the mental help he needed. He had family support but that wasnt enough.

@DeeJay Develop Well he suffered from depression which is a struggle in itself, back then he was the main provider abd they lived poor. So his thought process was to kill himself for life insurance, but once he did that his parents actually collected that and gave nothing to his wife. We must never allow one bad thing ruin many good things a person has done, if we did that then we would all just be terrible people we are human.

I left my family when i was about 20, I was abused physically and mentally
Main reason that i left was because 1 week before i left, i had a dengue fever and felt like i was literally dying, none of them cared, it hit me like a truck that these people dont care if i die... i packed all of my stuff on one night while they were sleeping... I had about $50.... i’m doing good now, no family yet but good job and good place to live in
Had a similar experience in 1990 when Iraq invaded Kuwait. I was Army Reserve waiting to see if I would be called up. I didn't have a single relative call. One day my grandmother called to announce her visit to my sister for Christmas. DH said something like That's nice, we're sort of here waiting to see if Vydio has to go. Go where? Kuwait, folks. There's a war on, haven't you noticed? That's when it hit me, I could be on TV in the middle of a war zone saying hi to my husband and they'd never even have figured out I left.

I walked out of my house at 14 years old. My parents divorce messed me up really bad and I’m starting to think my mom had no use for me since she got married to my dad bc she was pregnant with me in the first place.
It was a simple thing, I told her I would be at my grandmas house for for a little bit (grandma lives in another state) because I wanted to spend my birthday with my besties. So I walked out, my uncle (now adoptive dad) knew abt my plan and told me to take my dog with us. I think that was the first sign she knew that I wasn’t coming back because me and Bella (my dog) are inseparable.
The scheduled day for me to come back home came and went, my mom showed up to my grandmas house with the police and I disassociated for the rest of that day. After that court cases went ahead and now I live with my grandma and my adoptive dad.
It’s nicer here, I get to be who I want to be, I get the proper mental care my mother didn’t care to give me and the attention I had never received from any of my parents.
If she reads this, please just leave me alone, I won’t meet up with you and I definitely will not talk to you. You’ve made my life a living hell by not leaving us alone, I can’t be a normal teenager because I live in constant fear of you coming after my family, friends or me, this is my choice not anyone else’s.
I’m grateful I chose to do this instead of stayin in an abusive household.

Just packed 2 suitcases and a bag and left. 8 years later and it was still the best decision I ever made. I live in a house, with my high school sweetheart and we recently had a daughter. When I was 19-23 I lived with my mom and younger brother. When I’d turned 18 my mom lost a lot of extra income from my child support checks and while I was out on my own she struggled to get by and often begged my older siblings and I for money to help feed our younger brother. She’d do really toxic things like threaten to take his video games away and such...
He was 9. So I moved in while he was 10 and helped with rent and groceries, but she never put me on the lease and wouldn’t tell me a set amount to pay each month (which I asked to do so I could save up) and instead would demand I give her money and if I didn’t she’d kick me out on the street (even if I paid her full rent the previous day).
It made life very troubling and difficult. I tried to work it out for my brothers sake, but just couldn’t and broke.
From 21 to 23 I saved up some money. I bought a car and found a roommate. I had all my stuff in my car normally cause she always kicked me out so frequently.
One day I had packed up my video games (cause I knew she’d just sell them if I left them there) and other valuables that weren’t already in my car. My younger brother, 14 at the time, asked where I was going. I said to a friends house. He asked if he could go, I said no cause we’d be drinking. He asked when I was coming back...
I said I wasn’t sure.
I was gone for about 4 years and didn’t see him again till he was 18 and found me cause my mom was homeless and needed somewhere to stay. I told him he was welcome to stay, and she could if she apologized for kicking me out so many times...
She wouldn’t apologize so I never let her stay. She moved in with my sister instead.
I just disappeared from my family one day, moved 2000 miles away to the east coast. It was 100% worth it
I have a very abusive mother (verbally and physically). So one day I grabbed my phone, a backpack full of clothes and my favorite blanket that was made by my grandma. My grandma was at our house babysitting me and my 3 younger sisters that day while my mom was at work. She asked me where I was going and I told her I was just going to my friend's house right down the street. I got to my friend's house and told him I needed to come here, so I could call my dad to come pick me up, because I didn't want them to hear the phone call. I called my dad and told him my friend's address and he came to get me. I've been living with my dad ever since and I haven't seen my mother once. I have gone to visit my grandma and my sisters though and my dad is working on getting custody of them so they don't have to go through any more of it. I wish I could have taken them with me, but it would have looked weird if I was taking my 3 sisters when I was supposed to go hang out with my friend.

0% regrets and 100% happiness seems a bit off ngl. Although almost everyone had an abusive partner, the fact that they were homeless or in poverty for quite a while makes me doubt their “happier than before” stance.

Only I couldn't have very easily escaped as it all happened my childhood into my adulthood, I didn't have my birth certificate, my social or a state ID, so getting a job was impossible, I tried so hard to get it and go, but got screwed. I went homeless for a few years, but I'm working at a burger king now, but making a decent wage considering.

I think the first guy's dad was sad, but proud at the same time. He was gonna miss him, but was proud that he found the strength to leave and start his own life.

100% of these stories where the kid walked out was with divorced parents (remarried or not) see a trend here this just show how horrible divorce is chose you spouses wisely or you might ruin your kids life
Edit: For the replies this is why I said chose wisely because in the majority of case people just marry without taking any precautions and of course if your in a toxic relationship leave it but I’m telling people who aren’t married chose wisely so they will have a easier time.
Also it won’t always mess up your kids but from the video you can see a lot of them have problems.
Like an example these people where in marriage counseling and the dad got asked if you where 24 again would you have kids and he said no but he said he still loved his kids and wanted to be part of their life’s but the wife went and told the kids that daddy doesn’t love them so she just ruined his relationship
It's never that simple, sometimes divorce is the only way to get away from a toxic relationship, and you never know who the right person might be. During the marriage, your spouse may seem like "the one", but that can quickly dissolve
It really just depends on the kind of people the parents are. Both my biological parents are kind people and not abusive. I love them both, and I've not been affected at all by their divorce. Some people just don't get along living together, and that's understandable - just don't act toxic, especially in front of the kids.

I've been watching these videos for maybe a year and a half since I first discovered them, but that first one is the first time one of the stories has almost brought me to tears
I actually did that once, I was in an abusive relationship with a woman with a little kid.
Long story short, she cheated, couple days later, I had my wallet, my favorite clothes, car keys, went to the regular store we used, bought a pack of cigarettes, tipped the cashier, walked out, got in the car, drove off, that was 4 years ago, stopped getting texts from her 2 years ago, doing well today 😊
What about the kid? Was it yours?

I actually drove all the way to the other side of the country when I left, and ofcourse it was hard to start all over, was homeless for a while before I could get an apartment etc, but at the end of the day, best decision of my life 😊

Gee I never thought some of these would be this heartbreaking. It’s so sad to hear everything that has happened to these poor people and I hope they are feeling better now.
It makes me wonder how many people suffer in silence.
This happened to my friend's dad. He walked down to the gas station to buy a pack and as he walked into the store a man was running out. The man running out had just robbed the store then shot the clerk. As if without thought the man running out shot my friend's dad in the head killing him instantly.
I left one night when my dad and I had a fight. It had been years since it had been that bad and I realised as much as things had quietened down, nothing had changed. He told me to leave, so I took it seriously (he often threw up ridiculous ultimatums to test you, coax you into doing something) and I packed up as much as I could in a few bags, put a knife in my pocket, and contacted my ex.
We were in a better place than ever at that time, and she had already offered a roof over my head knowing my family situation. I finally took her up on it, then, and she said it was perfect, she'd be there. I walked several kilometers to her place in the middle of Joburg, just to get away. I couldn't afford a trip, and I refused anything my parents were saying at that point.
I've been here since, and I'm in the best place in my life. Several months later we got engaged. We'd worked past our selfish issues that had caused our massive breakup, and we realised not only do we make each other better people, but we make each other happy. Since, I've quit my old, dead-end job that I complained about bitterly and I've started down a very liberating career in writing that will, hopefully, lead to getting one of my own novels published one day.
I have barely seen them since. I believe my dad and sister stopped by the bookstore, my old job, once to see me there when I still worked there. I saw my mom last after I'd messaged her months after I'd left about my decision to stay away from the family, and I saw her last on the day she dropped most of my stuff off. She seemed pretty chilled about it, very reserved.
I don't know if I'll ever see them again but I know that I won't if it's a choice between my loving fiancee now, or the same old story on a different day back at 'home'.

I can't imagine being a father, not an abusive father but a caring a kind father, and just knowing that you will not be able to see your son agian in years. Just knowing, that will be your last time seeing your son in 5-10 years. All thouse lonely holidays, the cold empty bedroom you walk by every day, and just remembering all the funny and amazing times you have had as your son grows up, and seeing him come out of that bedroom at different ages of his life. From 4,5,6,7,8,9,10-18. It must be heart breaking. I would tell my son before he leaves the house one last time "remember son, this door is always open for you"

I'll never understand why people regret not fixing relationships with toxic or abusive family. It doesn't matter what kind of note you found after they passed, how they treated you and the things they did are what matters. No one should feel regret for getting out of a bad situation.

A co-worker of mine had something similar happen to him. His father had gotten a job in another part of the country and he moved over there to get things ready for them to join him. They never did and he never came back. He didn't know who ended it because his mother told him several different stories about what happened, which usually blamed his father, but his grandaunt said it was because his mother didn't want to move. He wasn't completely out of touch with his father and they met on several occasions, but he last heard from him in his early 20s, but he thought he was still alive. He wasn't even sure his parents had divorced until his mother told him she wanted to get married again to someone else.

I ran away from my abusive mother December 2020. I packed my things and took a Greyhound to a neighbouring city. I stayed at a homeless shelter, found the love of my life, and am moving in with him the beginning of the next month. I miss the feeling of family, but I know it will never be achieved because of how dysfunctional mine was.

As a father of three the thought of just leaving crosses my mind often. I haven’t done it, but I think about it.
I didn’t even realize I did this until I watched this video. Same story as a lot of these stories. Abusive mother. Sisters were taken away by the state, but I just graduated high school, so I took a bus several states away to live with a woman I met online. Didn’t say goodbye to anybody. Just left.
Seriously, work during high school. It could be a life saver.
Anyways, eight years later I’m still living with the woman and hopefully will until I die. Oh, and I found my sisters again six years after I left. Our relationships are stronger than ever.

not me, but my mom. this year i noticed she wasn’t doing the best, she seemed sad. she’d divorced my step father and our dog died a year ago while she had to take care of me when my health was really bad. in april she went to arizona for a vacation (we’re canadian) and went to a group she listens to on calls each week, it’s like a retreat yearly. then she said she was staying an extra week. that was the last time i’ve spoken to her. it’s now december and has been over half a year since she left and my family and i have been through a lot. i moved in with my aunt and uncle. my dad, grandma and cousin, uncle and aunt have been the best family i could ever have. my health has turned around and even though this has been the worst year of my life, i’m the happiest i’ve been in a long time. i know she’s going through something and we’ve heard some things she’s possibly been up to, but she was honestly my best friend. we had a great relationship so i was heartbroken and angry at the same time, since she cut off all communication and literally abandoned me. i’ve broken down many times because of what she did, but it was maybe a blessing in disguise. i’m 19 and i needed this. hope to see her again in the future.

my mom kicked me out of the house when i was 17 for "smoking cigarettes in the house" as our room-mates from hell described to her every damn day. did not make a difference that she just met them, that i did not smoke in the house ever, or that they themselves both smoked in the house. honestly my mom wanted the excuse. she had been threatening to send me to boot camp since i was 12, which i always said would be better than living with her. i was kind of a rebellious asshole teenage boy, but i wasn't smoking cigarettes in the house. she sent me to Portland Oregon on the greyhound all the way from Albuquerque.
I have a friend who's dad left her when she was little. She doesn't like to talk about why (don't worry, she wasn't the cause) but he's been contacting her often and he's trying to find a more stable job with a good apartment so that she can visit on weekends. She is so excited and I have never seen her so happy. She is one of the best friends I ever had and her dad is honestly one of the sweetest guys I have ever talked to. Every day I hope things work out for them.
Not saying I plan to leave home, but if I were to hypothetically is like legal for me to do so, if idk my parents call the police for a missing persons or something...can I be arrested or be put into like psychiatric care when they find me?

My grandparents actually put my dad in mental wards like four times as a teenager for absolutely no reason. The wardens and doctors didn't even know why he was there and he befriended everyone during his, like, two week stays.

I'm an emotional sponge for people to vent, the worst story of this genre I heard was this- he was in a relationship with a abusive woman she bit, and hit even scrached him. He was working as a welder and was earning good cash he would save some cash from each check and stash it away into a cellar out in the middle of nowhere. When she left to go get alcohol he got in his car drove to the cellar grabbed the cash and then left for a small town the relationship partner never looked for him and he is getting by ok and is happy.
(You could see the scratches, bites, everything on his arms and it was not small scars)
When i was 15 i got arrested for having a pocket knife, then again a month later when i ran away from home and took my mothers crossbow with the intention of living in the woods, i got 3 miles away before the police found me, a year and a half later i forced social service's to put me into care because i didn't want to live with my mum anymore, we had grown distant over this time and i remember feeling like talking with a stranger whenever we spoke, a few months later in December 2018 i got sectioned for a month and had very little contact over this time, when i got out i went and saw her and she cried so much saying how she was worried about me but couldnt handle where i had taken my life, i apologised and said that i would call her that night and might come and see her on the weekend, told her i loved her and left with her still crying.
I never had any contact with any of my family again after that, I think she knew it was our last contact, I regret my choice everyday but I've learned to bury my pain so it doesnt affect me, abandoning my family gave me a very bad mindset too, whenever a freindship or relationship goes slightly bad my head tells me to just cut them off, like if I can deal without family I don't need anybody

My dad went out for a pack of cigarettes and he ended up flipping the car and dying. If he was wearing his seatbelt, he would still be alive. I was 6 at the time and I took it too hard. My mom was also pregnant at the time with my sister.
i just want to say to all those people out there with similar situations i want you know that you don’t need to put up with peoples bullshit and i am glad to see all these people making the right decisions i hope everything goes well for you guys

About two months ago, my mom picked me up from school just after lunch,just before my next class. After some shit went down with the police, my mom got me and my brother to pack a bag and we left my dad to my grandparents house. I was told we would get to go back for the rest of our stuff, but I don't think she actually going to take us back. I went to an absolutely tiny school, less then 100 in the entire school. I didn't have many friends, but when I disappeared, nobody saw me leave, and only one person tried to contact me to see if I was ok. She was kinda the class druggy, I don't like calling her that, but she did smoke weed alot, and was known for skipping school to get high but she was a good friend, one of the only people who gave me a chance. I don't smoke,never did, and she knew this, only offered me once and she didn't ask again or try get me to try it after I said no, nobody else has done that to me. I'm still in kinda contact with her. I keep up on the few social media I have her on, like and comment on her posts. From what I can tell, she went to the hospital, my guess an accidental overdose, or something happened when she was high, and I think she's trying to quit. I'm basically starting my life over, with almost zero of my belongings, and only 1 or 2 close friends. But I'm going back to school in a few weeks. I'm hoping a fresh start to my harsh past will be good for me.
Left them in March 2018, was homeless for 5 months but managed to secure myself a decent life (Passed college this year, living in social housing and have some good friends) Left because I was the scapegoat and the "problem child" and was given no respect from them, one of them went as far as murdering two of my cats. Im trying to get a job at the moment but its looking hopeful at least, things got progressively better for me, just remember folks, just because your "family" are blood related doesn't mean you should stick with them if they make you feel like an abused prisoner, chances are you haven't met your spiritual family yet

The first one really got to me, being similar to my own years back. I'm glad he would later update that they're both now living in the same town, reconciling, & both say "I love you" during every phone call. I read the original post about a year ago & just now seeing the update. Made me tear up and smile.
Didnt go out for a pack of smokes but back in 2016, my family for the most part was addicted to meth, negative and the more i was around them the more i had a distain for them. Couldnt leave my town at the time due to military orders. I tricked my uncle about a job interview in midtown atlanta and i would get a taxi back to town. Not knowing a bought a train ticket in secret then took off to start a new life in San Antonio, been here for 7 years. Not rich or anything but doing alot better mentally. And have a job in IT now

Mom was abusive. One day, she tells me we have bed bugs in the trailer (yes, trailer, one which she never maintained and is now worth less than nothing). I know her boyfriend brought them from his rundown apartment.
So I suggest he doesnt come over until he deals with his infestation, I'm talking like the adult I am, trying to make a plan. She loses her mind at me. Tells me I'm just her daughter and I have no right to say what she does or doesnt do.
So that very day, I was all my clothes and go to my grammas house. I never went back.
Our relationship is still terrible to the point where I want nothing to do with her. Shes a disgusting human being. Has never apologized for how she treated me.
