And for men too, tbh men more because they get looked at as creepy old guys stalking or kidnapping a girl or boy, it's awful and I'm glad that never happened to my dad, probably because he beat up an entire gang and is kinda buff, he took martial arts lessons half his life, buuuuut the gangsters were also just donkey ass at fighting I think, he came home with bruised eyes and bloody lips, he was MESSED up, probably has some light scares from it on his skin, it sounded like a goddamn movie but I can confirm, it was true, he did come home beat up and I'm just glad he didn't get internal bleeding and die like my dads friends uncle/dad (I forgot) by getting jumped and died shortly after. I never wanted children myself and I can not see myself as a father. Stories like this still make me cry a little. I feel so very sorry for them.
Several years ago in my teens I was going to the store in summer and down the road next to the store was a building in which mostly poor families lived. I heard slapping and a little child crying for his mom to stop hitting him. It did not as I walked by.
Another time I was at a tattoostudio and all the artist and I were out having a smoke. A woman with two children walked by. They were around five years old. the little boy asked if he could have ice cream from the next door ice cream parlor like all the other kids standing in line. She hit him square in the face splitting his lip and his nose bled just telling him to shut the fuck up. No one said a word, but everybody stood up. The girls took the kids for an ice cream and the guys took their mom around the corner to "have a serious conversation". It did not take long to get CPS on her. The guys told me, they saw the kids again but with a different lady and they were way happier. They took them for ice cream when ever they came by. Don't want to know what was going on at home if she dealt with them this way in public.

An experience that got me traumatized:
Me, my mom and my siblings were on our way home from my tae kwan doe practise. We were almost home tho, we stopped due to a car stopping us(No, it's not a police car) my mom was waiting for the car to move but, it just didn't. So my mom tried to go around the car. He then started yelling at us accusing us "hitting" his car. He was banging on our window car. I was so scared I started crying. My mom then started to call my dad. When my dad arrive, the "man" started to act innocent as if we are the one who banged on his window. My dad took a photo of his car plate & insisted going to the police station. When we arrived, the "man" didn't showed up. Luckily for us, my mom's work friend worked there now apparently. We told him his car plate and everything he did. My mom's friend then started to insist us to go to another police station to do some contracts. Even though we are "safe" I would always remember that day.

There was a kid at my school who was really smart. Over time, I realized that his parents severely punished him if he got any grade that was not an 85 or above, and if he ever got a B in his class, he would be grounded for the rest of the year. I had a science class with himin middle school. He was talking to the teacher and he found out on the day that grades were due that he was two points short of an A. He had no way to raise his grade either. Since I sat next to the teacher's desk, I overheard that he forgot a homework assignment one day and had a zero. At the end of the day, I gave him a homework pass I found in my backpack that he could get rid of the zero with. He gave it to the teacher before she left and he got an A. So I guess that's my story.

I overheard her pleading to the rep. "I've been a housewife for 17 years and I've never had a job. My husband took everything. I really need this job for my kids. I'm willing to learn. I'm willing to work. Please just give me an interview". The rep responded "you need to just make up with your husband. You don't belong here."

Now, where I sit in class is directly in front of the door. After a while, about 5 minutes, I overhear her crying her eyes out, litterally screaming "NO-". It broke my heart to hear her so distressed. What broke it even more, is that I heard that her mom got cancer. She's already in quite the situation, but in the 13 years that I've known her, she really doesn't deserve this. Nobody does. She later signaled me to come and basically ran over to her without signaling the teacher, already with tears in my eyes. I felt so bad, and I still do. Her mom has had her first chemo last weekend. I hope for the best.

It seems you're still fairly young judging from your post, so I would do my best to focus on developing yourself (your schoolwork, your health, and your hobbies) rather than feeling that you are responsible for someone else's mental health. It's not your responsibility, and it could turn into a situation like when a person is drowning and they end up drowning the unexperienced swimmer trying to save them.

Back in 7th grade I liked this girl and I told her, she didn’t have the same feelings. During lunch me and my friends(including her) just went to a class to make up some work and when we finished we just talked. I decided I was tired and wanted to take a nap, so I went to another table as to not disturb anyone and about 5 minutes later they were talking about how awkward it was how I told the girl I liked her. It takes me quite a while to fall asleep so I was still awake with my head down listening. Then they started talking about how bad they all felt for me. Except they didn’t say my name they just pointed and I could feel everybody staring at me behind my back. They started saying how it’s a “little sad how he thought he can get with you” never brought it up and pretended like I didn’t hear it. And about 3 months later I had a surgery in my meniscus as I tore it. We were in class and everybody had already left except me because I was in crutches and a little slow and my crush who I still liked just because she finished her test a little late. The teacher had left and she had walked up to me as I was about to walk out the door, blocking it. She said in a quick sentence “I think I have a crush on you” my heart bounced immediately but I felt it was a trap so I just looked in confusion pretending I didn’t hear her. The last one really hit me in my feels, because it reminded me an awful lot of how it was at my moms house. For back story, my dad and mom split up when I was 3, dad got custody (Thank god) and I got to see my mom on alternating weekends. Every time I went over there I got a sample platter of ways that life could be so much worse. I once watched a man get murdered over $30, things got pretty bad, but I never said anything. My mom was a BIG drug user, it's what she spent all her money on, thanks to her abusive boyfriend, who got her into them in the first place. Mom and her boyfriend had two girls, my half sisters. These two girls weren't as lucky as I was, because I was able to go back to my dads after 2 days of eating almost nothing, they had to live with an abusive dad, a drugged out mom, no food on the table, and only had a roof over their head 70% of the time because my mom couldn't keep a job. I knew all of this, but I didn't know of any real way to help. when I was 8, my mom disappeared, and I didn't hear a word from her for 3 years. at the end of those three years I got a call from my mom, and I still remember it like it happened 30 minutes ago. Long story short, my mom went to prison, lost custody/visitation rights of all her kids and spewed some bullshit about it being all the governments fault (She was super manipulative, I only recently realized that) There is a bright side to this story though, my sisters were sent to live with one of the greatest guys I ever met, my moms boyfriends dad. To this day I still feel glad knowing that they're safe. As for my mom and her boyfriend, I haven't heard anything from or about them. To me it's just easier to imagine they're dead, because I know it'd be easier than any other alternative path they'd likely choose. anyways thanks for reading lol, just thought I'd get it off my mind :)
(BTW I'm doing great, I've taken my moms situation through life as a perfect example of what not to do, and I'm living with my dad, so everything's okay)

I overheard one of my cousins tell my mom over the phone that my grandmother(we were VERY close) had passed away. This was RIGHT before Mid-terms in 9th grade. It was about a week and a half before Christmas and we had just got done celebrating my sisters birthday when I had heard it. I bawled my eyes out when I heard it, and it put a damper on the rest of the year where I just kind of shut down, and didn’t really talk to anyone for a while, It took almost two months for my friends to get me to do something even resembling a smile, looking back at it now, I am greatful for my friends, and appreciate them for relentlessly getting out of my sulky attitude and getting me back to my old happy self.

Make sure you dont become like them, learn from this. You can always ask for help if it becomes too rough. I have no idea if youre underaged if so call the right authorities and if not cut off contact with them despite how hard it might feel. for me, it was probably my mother saying “I dont want you in a relationship you’re not happy in” .
A few years ago, my father had cheated on my mother. It was a huge scene. Cops were involved, and my mother was planning a divorce. But, she couldn’t get one since she wasn’t financially stable. Because of this, my parents stayed together and my father soon came back in to live with us ( my mother got a restraining order on him, so he wasnt home for a while ) . They would argue a lot and looked like they were getting tired of each other. About 2/3 years pass, and everything’s somewhat normal. somewhat, because my mother is now always suspicious of my father. Despite this, i thought they were finally on good terms, and both were happy. I was in the car with my mother and two sisters, on our way home, when my mother, my older sister and I start talking about our future, my mother giving her input. I don’t exactly remember how the conversation went, but it was to a point where my older sister and mother were somewhat arguing, and my older sister said “you just dont want us to live the same life you do” and my mother replied “I just dont want you being in a relationship you’re not happy with” , implying the relationship her and my father have. It broke me realizing this. I thought they were on good terms, but now I knew my mother wasn’t happy. Sticks with me to this day.

Both my parents died when I was young and everyone in my family always said bad things about them, so I was really ashamed to talk to anyone in my family the more I grew to understand what they said my parents did (they only remembered the bad things, never the good ones). I decided I'd do good all my life so I'd be good enough for my family, studied at the best school and got accepted into the best university in the country for my major (i was first place). Then I went to my cousin's birthday party feeling I'd be able to finally socialise with everyone, then my cousin who grew up with me didn't want to introduce me to his friend [he also wasn't accepted at the same university] and I overheard my aunt saying I was too full of myself. I overheard my ex-husband telling his gaming buddies that he was tired of me crying and bitching the time. He wasn't nice to me, my in-laws were horrible to me, and I felt stuck. Our daughter was stillborn, and 8 years later I still cry for her. I guess it hurt so much because all I ever did was try to make him love me how I thought I should be loved and gave him everything I had, and in the end I was just angry and bitter, and didn't care any more. I was blamed for the divorce by a lot of people around me, even though he packed up his own belongings, and went back to his mother's home. I never told him to go, but it was all my fault. All of the gas lighting, all of the threats made toward me, all of the hate I received from his parents, it was apparently all my fault. I don't miss him, but it still hurts. It's been 3 years since he left, but I don't trust anyone, and don't really fell a need to show anyone the kind of care I tried to give him during our marriage. I try really hard because I'm in a relationship with the man I hope to marry one day, but I worry about giving too much because I don't want to be in the same situation I was for 6 years.

i didn't overhear this, my mother said it right to my face. I was in 7th grade, and I have an older sister who was in 10th. She was under a ton of stress, she had a project due the next day and had done very little due to other assignments. My parents were always strict about getting all A's, and since I did that I was the "golden child". Well, my sister had to skip out on a family activity because she had to work on the project, and my mom flipped because she want her to go to the family thing. My sister ran to her room, and afterwards, I asked what happened because I was in the bathroom upstairs and they were downstairs. My mom immediately went off about how she was so selfish, and dumb, and how I had to fill the spot left from her. That was a lot, considering the fact that I had always gotten the impression they liked her better, because she was an amazing artist. Another unrelated incident, when I was around 9-10, I overheard my dad talking to his bestfriend on the phone. Please keep in mind that my family was not rich, but we weren't poor at the time of my birth. I had a few things wrong with me when I was born that required surgery and a shit ton of meds. He said exactly these words, "If we had had max (my real name) first, I don't think we would've had another child!" This crushed me, and the problem was, I have an extremely long and vivid memory. I do not forget ANYTHING. This helped me achieve grades my sister couldn't, by the way. That fucked me up in my teenage years, because i remembered that stuff, and made me have 3 failed suicide attempts. Anyways, in the end, me and my sister were both big, fat, disowned, disappointments, because we are both girls, and we're both gay.

I think the most heart breaking thing I've heard is my mom, shouting she'll call the police because of my abusive dad, (but don't end up doing it finally) or screaming because she's scared of my dad hitting her. Those scared screams are way worse than anger screams. It is horrible to hear your own mom scared of that man who is your dad.

The po po wouldn't of done anything as the wife is his property like a cow. I don't care what the "laws" say - po po don't do nothing. If they actually did anything this world would be a safe place. And then after he spend only one night in jail, IF they take him, he agrees to anger mgmt. blah, blah, blah and due to the embarrassment of that ordeal, if he doesn't kill your Mom, he will beat her within an inch of her life. Your Mother didn't call because she wanted to stay alive for you and knew the truth about the po po and society at large doesn't care about Mothers and their children. Boys will be boys!!!

When I was younger I would usually jump into the fight and hit both of them. My brothers would always fight and make my mom cry and get my dad angry I noticed everything I know I was similar to them but I fought to try and fix things. I always fought everything was my fault so I tried fixing anything that happened in anyway possible. It worked for me. I would use the fact that I'm their child against them to fix the situation. I tried my best now I always act like that and it gets me in big trouble nowadays.

I was in class and I overheard this girl telling her friend that even though she knows that she’s skinny and isn’t overweight she’s still self conscious because everyday for 5 years her dad is fat shaming her and telling her she needs to exercise or lose weight
It was pretty sad. Maybe not the most heartbreaking thing that is in this vid or around but to think that she is forced to think that way

When I was 1-3 years old I had an alcoholic mother and father that abused my half sister. They were also drug addicts and I went to a foster home. They didn’t care about me and ignored me if I was crying. I went to another one and they did the same. Now I live in New Jersey with my cousin who is now my dad. I still have trust issues to this day but am glad I have a home.

Damn. I'm sorry you had to go through all that, but now you know what kind of shitty person or parent not to be. Do not follow your old "parents" tracks. Be someone your kids can look up to. We shape into a person through these hardships. I want to quote Fullmetal Alchemist on this: "There's no such thing as a painless lesson-they just don't exist. Sacrifices are necessary. You can't gain anything without losing something first. Although if you can endure that pain and walk away from it, you'll find that you now have a heart strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Yeah... a heart made Fullmetal."

"Now don't talk to them like that, or they might end up like me" - I overheard a shy girl saying this to her friend in high school. This friend was not a terrible person, but was on some edgy phase and used to make fun of the appearance of younger kids. The shy girl was hands down one of the nicest persons I've ever met, but quite sad and insecure.
Edgy girl went silent and then babbled something, I don't remember. I do remember her confusion and I think she was a lot better after that. So at least there was a lesson learned.

gonna share my own story since I don't have reddit:
I help out at daycamps over the summer in my area. We had a kid come and was really misbehaved, at one point I told him that he needed to be nice to the staff and other kids. Kid started bursting into tears, saying that mommy would lock them outside and make them sleep in the cold if they got sent home again. Absolutely just destroyed me and I hope that kid was able to get out of there.
