  • Hey all,
    Today I was lucky enough to get my hands on an Oase Biomaster 350.
    This is a premium, quiet canister filter with some extremely nifty features that set it apart from the rest of the competition.
    Safe to say I was pleasantly surprised and think there is a real market for a filter like this.
    Hope you enjoy.

    Newbie to the hobby and currently use sponge filters as most of my tanks are under 70L but have one tank at 165L.
    Never used or seen canister filters in person so found this extremely helpful. Pity they are so expensive.
    I've see other videos where they use Lily pipes and skimmers as output and intake options so would love to see them reviewed.

    I love my thermo 600... if you get one.. grab a extra set of pre filter foam.. makes changing easier.. also have a spare heater (just in case). Was waiting for the 850.. but at the time 12 months for it to get to our shores..
    If you drill twice the amount of holes in the tube get better flow though the per filter..
    If you turn the inside pipe intake (filter side) you can get a pipe cleaner up the tube without taking them out of the tank.
    My bottom tray has three different foams.. than the rest if biohome ULTIMATE.. the top tray fine floss and charcoal.

    Great video when it comes to canisters I'm a bit of a canister freak love them iv had a lot of types and makes fluvals fx&07s eheim classics &pro4 jbl Cristal profits and a SUNSUN 702a all great in there own ways what iv found is each types better in the own way some might have better pumps primers trays ECT iv never owned a oase biomaster I want to get one to use on a tank at some point the oase biomaster is a master piece it's got everything and some. theyv thought of everything carry handel is great prefilter and heater trays are decent it's really well made but it's alot dearer than others so your paying for the extra bells in whistles you can buy a jbl Cristal profi 902e for a 100 pound it has the same flow and trays as a biomaster 250 non thermo models £200 so you can get two jbls for the same price as one biomaster 250 so as good as they are I don't think it's worth twice as much as a jbl there great filters but if you want the biomaster and are welling to fork out 200-300pound then go for it I bought a SUNSUN hw702a for £60 new and that's a great filter for the price it had 3huge trays and pumped 1000lph at zero head half that by time it's pumped back to tank the best filters you'll get for lasting a lifetime are the eheims my classic 350 only has a top flow rate of 620lph but because it can pump up to 1.8meters it'll do most of it's top flow mine does 480lph that's 75/76% where a SUNSUN a fluval and a jbl I'll only pump 50/55% at a push the eheims are the best pumps for flow % and life span if you couid put an eheim classic motor into an oase biomaster you'd end up with the best filter out there.

    Good comprehensive review mate the filter looks solid i really like the integrated heater and prefilter. However there’s a huge lack of biomedia which for the price is disappointing, setup like it comes it’s basically a giant sponge filter. I reckon they should include some ceramic or sintered glass media of some sort at least enough to fill one tray. But that’s my only gripe a nitpicky one I guess.

    • @BlakesAquatics
      @BlakesAquatics  3 года назад +2

      Its interesting, so many people are saying theyd have more bio media less sponge. For me sponge still grows bacteria but also acts as mechanical filtration. Aside from clogging id always favour sponge over bio because of that 2 for 1 aspect.

    • @benc3214
      @benc3214 3 года назад

      @@BlakesAquatics true as I said it was a bit nitpicky for me considering there’s the generous pre filter I’d use one blue in the bottom with maybe a fine pad then matrix or rings. The top tray I’d keep the sponge unless I wanted to run some chemical media. But you could also look at it as you can add the media of your choice, it’s very customisable which I like.

    Great video Blake. I have the 100 and it is a PitA. The super stiff hoses make the weak press fittings of the spray bar and intake pop off all the time, if not set up precisely. It has square fittings for over the edge of the tank, that are narrowed (hoses are 13mm but this bit is about 10mm), and clog every month. I have to clean the filter every month as the water flow decreases, even though the tank only has 3 panchax and 5 sterbai cories. The hose fittings are very hard to undo if your hands are slightly wet or if you have any impairment. I have arthritis so have to wait for a good day for any chance of getting them off to clean them. It leaks when you put it back together until it builds up enough negative pressure inside. This 350 looks a lot better with the prefilter and pump bits, but I don't have a tank that needs anything this big........yet.

    With all that fancy tech, they failed to make a normal telescopic inlet and option for digital thermometers. Also because a lot of these types of baskets go bad really fast and don't stay as it was intended(meaning a bit not as straight) which makes the whole filter rattle at the end. They should have introduced holding strips like in the Fluval FX series.

    I have an oase. Probably the most inconvenient filter I’ve ever owned in my 15 years of experience. Honestly the one complement I have for it is the internal heater. Other than that I would steer clear. If you’re using the factory media, you’re going to need to clean this thing weekly at the minimum. The connection between the hoses and the canister has broken after four months of operation, making it extremely difficult to get a seal between the hoses and the filter. The filter is constantly slowing after about a week after cleaning. I am very disappointed in this filter. I expected more as I paid over $300 (American) for it. Hope this helps somebody out who’s debating on purchasing an oase.
