Today let's talk about an interesting snare that turned out to be a secret treasure:
The 14"x5" Tama Swingstar Seamless Steel Snare from 1982 🤘!
The demo with the various tunings etc. starts at 06:56 💪.
My RoyalStar has the same shell but is black badged. I fixed it up a few years ago with refinishing, new snare wires and diecast rims. It's a keeper.
Cool 😎!
I have the same but ten lugs and royal star…man they sound awesome, seamless shell makes difference
😎💪
I owned a Tama Swingstar 14x5.5 many years ago, but sold it with the Swingstar kit I got it with, unfortunately. Probably the most versatile, thin shelled steel snare I've ever owned and I've owned quite a few.
Super video man, thanks a lot!
Thank you 😎🙏.
It sounds great to my ears
And because of this review and information that you shared I have bought one. It’s a tiny bit battered but I like them with a bit of character, it’s an orphan so it can live with me 🙂
Ich glaube das, this snare drum could be more collectible in the future
Thanks and congratulations on your new drum 🥳!! Have fun with it 😎.
You got insane chops dude
Thanks 🙏🥳.
Wow, sounds really nice with all the different tunings. Not a sigle one which I don't like, very cool 👍
Yes, it's actually a pretty nice drum 😎.
Thanks bro! Nice video!
Thanks 🥳
I have a Swingstar rack tom with that same Badge, it's got a Grey speckled interior, I recently got a Bruno Conqueror 14x5.5 Steel snare MIJ that was made by pearl that sounds super nice and that's with the stock snare wires. Someone in a forum compared it to his Ludwig Supraphonic
Nice! Yes MIJ can definitely be great - I have a 60ies Apollo (by Star) kit 🤘. There is also an older video on my channel, if you're interested:

I recommend the Starphonic roll brass, to my ear the performance is very similar
Haven't checked it out...
I have one also, and it is really a sound for money winner .....
Excellent review
Vielen dank
Danke, gern geschehen 😎.
Tama Royalstar use the same steel (only 10 lugs on mine)
I found one at a pawnshop for $50, at the time I was all about wood snares so the ringing on that Royalstar was too much for me 🤦♂️. I have two MIJ snares now and that ring is part of the sound which I like, I have a 1995 Japanese Tama Rockstar and I'm going to find a matching metal snare because those were also hidden gems. N
My Snare
The heart of the TAMA Swingstar
I want an identical reissue.
How much do you sale it ?
Where are you located? I am in Austria, EU.
@@SimonSpringerMusic France
@@pascalkrzeminski7341 So that would actually work without customs...
If you're interested in buying it, send me an email:

My interest in this snare has been growing a lot during the last few days, but I already own a Tama Starphonic Brass, which is also a beast. What would you guys do/suggest? Would the seamless factor of the Swingstar make it more versatile/powerful? Or should I just sit tight and relax? I'm in pain... 😅 Need not say that I would have to sell the Starphonic.
Although I am not familiar with the Starphonic brass it seems to definitely be a superior and more high end drum. I love the Starphonic aluminum, and the brass sure kicks ass! Don't trade it in for the Swingstar! However, the Swingstars sell online for around 100 bucks, so if you have 100 for spare, you can check it out and maybe also resell 👍.
@@SimonSpringerMusic many thanks for the feedback!
@@joaogaspar9155 You're welcome 😎
I had a Swing Star Drum set that also had this Snare Drum with it but It was stolen with a bunch of my other musical instruments unfortunately
Sorry to hear...
Any thoughts about the sonor lite 14 x 7.25 ?
No 😉. Not familiar with this drum...
Vintage SonorLite is a killer snare drum (drum set also...) and also very expensive....I ve seen listings for Sonorlite 14x7.25 (wood snare) that go up to 2k $ ...if yoiu can aford and find one , thats a no brainer :)
Hello do you still have this Tama Swing Star Steel snare and is it for sale still?
Yes I have it and although I am not actively selling it, I could let it go. Where are you located, though? Because I think shipping and customs would maybe make it a bit unattractive...
@@SimonSpringerMusic I live in California U.S.A.
@@scotttucker8127 I'm in Austria, Europe. So I guess it wouldn't be a good deal for you with shipping and customs 😉. These drums are usually sold for around 100 bucks...
Infirmative video and some nice playing presented
