i'm so glad you played a kinda punky song towards the end. usually when i see those tama drums, my brain is just like "90's skate-punk" also looks like something one of those 90's skate punk bands would play on a reunion tour. like the band hadn't played together since 99 and the drummer was like "i'm gonna use my old tama kit" and it was the first time he'd seen the snare in 20 years and is just like "i'll make it work"
Only thing I would have added was a coat of clear lacquer over it to keep the rest of the flaky chrome from becoming glitter and winding up in the carpet all over the house.
Missed opportunity!-> If you had cut the two snare straps at opposite angles it would have looked like a snake tongue, and the way the strap was dancing being in front of the air port combined with the rock ‘n’ roll would have added at least another +10 style points.
Nice work! A testament to why we drumsmiths keep so many parts around. I would’ve taken a wire wheel to the shell, stripped off the chrome and made a brushed copper shell. 100% badass!
Just got today a late 70s/early 80s tama Imperialstar snare. Rusty, dirty, but for 60€ I had to get it and all hardware is functional. I can't wait to bring it back to life.
Sounds badass! I have an old Slingerland that a neighbor left out by the trash, so I rescued it. It's an old Buddy Rich model from the '60's with 8 lugs. I havent started the restoration on it yet, but I look forward to it soon.
I didn't have faith on the look. I thought you were gonna paint the shell. But then after a second thought I realized it looks amazing. But then BAM!!! You start to play it , and I thought it was a transition song (not related to the snare) to show how it was gonna sound, but it was the actual sound and it was sick!!!!!!!!! btw, the song was amazing, It reminded me the best my chemical romance songs!!!!
I love watching your videos. Found you, thanks to your work with EMCproductions! It amazes me as you take all your pieces and parts from your inventory and repair instruments that have seen better days!
It turned out really good, better than I expected it to. The drum has a lot of character. Guitarists love buckle rash on thier guitars, I would say this is a rough equivalent. Nice work.
I love the look of a hot mess drum in the morning. Plus thisun sounds bad ass ta boot. Nice mix. Btw, you on new medication or something? Your playing has really stepped up.
You have been inspiring me to make some Holy Crashes lately, and I made a Tom/snare (13x10) recently, and I love the deep dry sound of it. Love your channel!
I like that beat, it's close enough to the punk stuff I, listen to 👌. Also the Sleeved Washers are a nice touch, I got the orange one's in my kit as well.
Damn you rdavidr, just now bought me 100 Hendrix light blue sleeved washers for my early 2000's Pearl Export ELX Selects in Blue Mist lacquer drum kit!! Thanks for the heads up!! :)
Dude, you would love my current kit. It's actually a set of pdp rack toms that somebody dumped in the desert. A friend of mine brought them to me. I turned them into a respectable, battered looking little pocket kit. Got their first real play this past fourth of July. That beat up old Tama ain't ready to go yet
That snare sounds damn good, kinda reminds me of the sound of an old Pearl free floating snare, you should do a review of one of those one day if you have, or could find one, I haven’t seen one in years
I have one of these that looked good when I put it into storage and like trash when it came out. I stripped it, powder coated it light grey and put Ludwig die-cast brass hoops on it.
Hey David, I was wondering if you could do a video on stripping chrome done to the copper for us. I hear muriatic acid with a battery charger will do the trick like an electrolysis setup. Keep up the good work buddy.
Great job, sounds fantastic. I have gotta get one of those Earthworks mics you're using on snare. Anyone know the particular model? There are several that look pretty much exactly like that, yea?
I have a kingbeat that is in rough shape. Not as bad as this. But the chrome is really pitted. Wonder if there is a way to strip the chrome off like this shell. Then I could polish up the copper. It would be a sweet looking drum. 👍Great work on this drum 👍
Hey David I have a orange county snare with die-cast hoops that I love. I think leaving it in a hot garage has warped the die-cast hoop on the batter side. I can not tell if the Ash shell is warped or not but it might be slightly. The rim definitely is tweaked. Can I send it to you to see if my favorite snare of all time is savable?
What do you like better, brand new shiny drums or old messed up looking drums?
Your drums, David. Your drums.
Yes
Drums with character for sure.
time for a bell brass find video
All I own are old messed up drumsets. A good drummer can make two rocks sound good. Someday me to.
Love that the orange strap moves with every hit because of the “new” vent hole 🕳
Flappy lil strap) was about to comment the same)
+100 style points!

my thoughts exactly! whenever I set up one of my tamas I feel the need to play rock or punk haha
Obviously the mix has been equalized and all but that snare sounds pretty dope. Actually looks good as well.
Ya I wish he would show the raw sound more often
Only thing I would have added was a coat of clear lacquer over it to keep the rest of the flaky chrome from becoming glitter and winding up in the carpet all over the house.

Only David would have a muffler box.
Drums that sound good. Aesthetics don't bother me.
bc rich guitars and basses be like
@@lucasconklin71 well I can tell that you're not a metalhead
@@layz_gaming_4275 : I've been a metalhead since I was a kid (AKA back when KNAC was a metal station) and I think BC Rich guitars are silly.
Vintage Tama are my favorite line of drums. Glad to see this snare has some life left. Noice job David!
Apogee should send the new Ensemble to David! Upvote so they see this!
Nice work! A testament to why we drumsmiths keep so many parts around.
I would’ve taken a wire wheel to the shell, stripped off the chrome and made a brushed copper shell.
100% badass!
Totally agree. He should have worked on the finish at least a little. The thing is...it still sounds great
Its more a weathered look i imagine his goal was here.
Easily the best snare I’ve heard on this channel 🥵
Oooooo, that thing is tasty. Now I'm going to have to go finish fixing up my old ImperialStar Powerline...
Sheesh!!! That snare sounds sick man!!
It sounds really good!
Coolest looking snare ever! The orange is perfect! I love it ain’t nothing wrong with the sound either win win ....it’s got so much style!!
Build an entire set of Steam Punk themed drums.... aaaand Go insane with it, lol.
Don't forget the plumbing pipe stands & the tarnished cymbals!
@@timm1139 I think Neil Peart had a steampunk kit.
@@frankspikes7858 That he did for the Time Machine tour. Probably in terms of looks is easily my favorite kit.
Holy Crap dude!! I've been watching a lot of your stuff lately, and you don't get enough credit for your playing abilities!!!
This is probably my favourite sounding snare from any of your videos
Just got today a late 70s/early 80s tama Imperialstar snare. Rusty, dirty, but for 60€ I had to get it and all hardware is functional. I can't wait to bring it back to life.
Oh wow, looks and sounds so good
Damn that snare sounds ridiculously good
Bonus points for the vent hole/strap effect.
Sounds badass! I have an old Slingerland that a neighbor left out by the trash, so I rescued it. It's an old Buddy Rich model from the '60's with 8 lugs. I havent started the restoration on it yet, but I look forward to it soon.
i love that old crappy look!
One of the best looking snares you did so far!
I didn't have faith on the look. I thought you were gonna paint the shell. But then after a second thought I realized it looks amazing. But then BAM!!! david, you are amazing. love your videos. ypu are an inspiration the mcgiver of the drum world. keep up the videos. love them.
I’d rock that snare. I imagine it set up with a pristine piano black lacquer kit for a bit of contrast and character. And, it sounds killer!
I did not think that drum was going to sound that good! Plus great playing and great song choice to showcase it
I like how the end off the snare strap moves by the air from the vent each time you hit the drum.
I love watching your videos. Found you, thanks to your work with EMCproductions! It amazes me as you take all your pieces and parts from your inventory and repair instruments that have seen better days!
Sounds ace and I like the orange crosswind flag detail too 🥁🚩
The way the color of the snare was in the beginning of the video was actually pretty cool.
That looked amazing! I would definitely go for that as a finish on a snare...
That snare sounds great!
I like to feel the sound of rust tearing the chrome of the pieces, somehow the sound is more alive, the sound of this snare is really amazing
less layers of stuff on the shell probably means less damping of harmonics, so you're probably not that far off in your observation
great job as usual dave. love the look and the sound of the snare.
Lovely sounding snare drum, Davie-boy! 👍
This snare looks so cool AND have a great sound, good job
It turned out really good, better than I expected it to. The drum has a lot of character. Guitarists love buckle rash on thier guitars, I would say this is a rough equivalent. Nice work.
That copper look is actually really nice
The chrome on the bead looks killer against the bronze color as well. Nice work again!
Love the look, love the drumming!
Nice work. It looks awesome and sounds great..
Hell of a sound, my brother. Great diy recovery!
THAT is a great sounding snare!
I love the look of a hot mess drum in the morning. Plus thisun sounds bad ass ta boot. Nice mix. Btw, you on new medication or something? Your playing has really stepped up.
Sounds awesome!
Oh my good!!!!! Love that sound.
Looks cool, sounds even cooler
That snare sounds so good
This was just lovely
What a killer sound !!!
Love the rock beat for this one awesome to see your other skills in drumming
It looks pretty sick I wish I had this!
Awesome! That snare sounds and looks great!
Honestly, this is probably one of the nicest snare drums I've ever seen! Great job man!
Yaeh man, that drum sounds great! Who needs chrome plating anyway!
You have been inspiring me to make some Holy Crashes lately, and I made a Tom/snare (13x10) recently, and I love the deep dry sound of it. Love your channel!
Finally a new video! Was getting worried!!! Lol!
I like that beat, it's close enough to the punk stuff I, listen to 👌. Also the Sleeved Washers are a nice touch, I got the orange one's in my kit as well.
Sick project drum man. Looks really rad, and sounds good 😎
Badass drumming!
A snare drum is special. This drum fits in perfectly, and you make it sound great👌
Looks Steampunk, and sounds great. Me likey!
I love drums that look like that.
They looked aged and futuristic.
Damn you rdavidr, just now bought me 100 Hendrix light blue sleeved washers for my early 2000's Pearl Export ELX Selects in Blue Mist lacquer drum kit!! Thanks for the heads up!! :)

That beat up old Tama ain't ready to go yet
Sounds sick. Looks Badass
This snare sounds amazing and looks incredible. Im kinda jealous 😄
Once again another great video
Your playing is really getting good.
It starts off looking like a giant can of spaghetti sauce. Lol
Old tama snares give me the zoomies.
Dang that drum looks and sounds incredible! Love it!
I have a brass free floater snare that I did a vinegar salt patina to it. Came out amazing. The original lacquer had perished.
That snare sounds damn good, kinda reminds me of the sound of an old Pearl free floating snare, you should do a review of one of those one day if you have, or could find one, I haven’t seen one in years

The GoPro cam actually made me laugh man is just the MacGyver of drums lol
sounds amazing!
awesome groove too!
Rat rod style drum. I love it. Has flair.
Nice drumming!
Damn dave this snare sounds killer, looks sick too! Getting real hotrod vibes
Sounds killer!
Nice and shiny!
Does anyone know what that spinning base is at 6:14? I have been looking for something like it when changing out multiple heads at a time.
Hey David, I was wondering if you could do a video on stripping chrome done to the copper for us. I hear muriatic acid with a battery charger will do the trick like an electrolysis setup. Keep up the good work buddy.
That's one cool snare.
Insane dude! 🔥🔥
Love it as is! Just be careful that the peeling chrome doesn’t cut you. Chrome flakes are like little razor blades. Sounds great looks great!
Tama Seamless 80s 5" Steel Shell + S-Hoops + nice wires + nice Heads = no brainer that sounds like 1000 Bucks
Great job, sounds fantastic. I have gotta get one of those Earthworks mics you're using on snare. Anyone know the particular model? There are several that look pretty much exactly like that, yea?
…would copper spray coat with sealer work? Sound is there!
That snare strap was going wild the whole time you were playing.
Sounds sick!!
I have a kingbeat that is in rough shape. Not as bad as this. But the chrome is really pitted. Wonder if there is a way to strip the chrome off like this shell. Then I could polish up the copper. It would be a sweet looking drum.
👍Great work on this drum 👍
Have you tried goo gone?

I was thinking it would sound good. But it sounds really good like a $300 snare.
