Still a great film. I remember when it first came out people complained that it was unrealistic for someone to be holding a camera and filming while all of this crazy stuff was going on. But now we see people filming with their phones and taking selfies all the time, even during dangerous or risky situations, so it's not so unbelievable. We even see people voluntarily heading into dangerous situations with phones or cameras just so they can "document" the experience. Cloverfield was kind of ahead of its time in that regard.
Everything about the movie from the viral marketing campaigns to the subliminal messages was pure genius. I still don't think the movie gets the credit it deserves, it's much more than just a monster movie. It's just tarnished by truly forgettable sequels. Much like the first Blair Witch.
Best found footage movie IMO. Watched it again after 15 years and I can still say it's the best. I was still on the edge of my seat until the end. Great movie.
Twice in the theater and it was one of the wildest and loudest experiences..... It might be the best giant monster movie ever (whatever the hell they call them in Japanese.. Kaiju???) The only one comparable is last year's Godzilla minus 0 One of them is the best Kaiju movie ever... I will revisit Cloverfield and determine the winner LOL

I've been to the Statue of Liberty multiple times, and while the head itself isn't big enough for a crowd, it's still bigger than how it was designed for the trailer. There are stairs built in the head so people can look through the windows of the crown. Watching the movie recently, I noticed they re-did the CGI for the Statue's head, so this seems like it was just a rough draft for the sake of the trailer. Still, the redesign is smaller then it should be, about the same size as the one shown in the trailer. A semi trailer can fit more people than how this is shown.
Fantastic movie! So much about this movie makes it so thrilling.The atmosphere is filled with tension and we dont know what is going to happen some minutes after.

I remember going to theater with my girlfriend at the time not knowing what to expect. I was leaning on an asteroid ☄️ Catastrophe. I was pleasantly surprised that it was indeed a huge Monster!!! I think thats why I’ll always love this flick.
My local theater had to put signs up that the film could cause motion sickness because people were getting ill due to the rapid movement of the handheld camera for most of the film.
Honestly the part where the statue of libertys head came crashing down it looked like one person could fit in it, when in actuality its big enough for a whole group of tourists to fit in the crown

I’ve seen this trailer so much more than the movie. Don’t get me wrong, the film is good but this is really one of the best teaser trailers of all time. It gives me chills. I wish I could have been in a theater with an audience when this trailer was first released. I’m sure people were intrigued right away.

Everyone on online forums trying to figure out what the monster was analyzing every clue on the pictures released in the website every month. Everyone guessing it was Voltron at first because the teaser was attached to Transformers loool.
Is it me?! Or the first scenes look like 9/11 attacks but at night! Exactly how everyone gets in the store when the dust is coming. Even people with dust in them and the screams and all the running.

Today's the 15th anniversary! This movie is still cool! I hope they still do a fourth movie and bring back Rob and Beth since in other media, they reveal they're still alive. And I heard they might have the two meet Michelle and Ava from the other movies. If that does happen, I hope they bring back Lily too.
A really good movie, it was just weird how the monster seemed to follow the cast literally everywhere they went...like New York isn't that damn small. But I know...had to move the plot forward!
This is such a great movie and was such a success in 2008. it’s my 2nd favorite movie, good job to the director if they’re still alive (probably). I do have one question though why did marlinas head explode in the quarantine area? Did they shoot her? Was it because of the little creature? Im so confused
I just saw Cloverfield and believe me 90 minutes ago I was thinking how is this film gonna go then that amazing documenting by hud made it so interesting and everyone did an amazing job especially lizzy caplan , then suddenly it started and halfway through I took my words back that i said in the starting how will I watch this because camera was unstable sometimes but then as it reached to half duration I was like it's this way of shooting which I am now liking example that tunnel scene is so thrilling because, if this film was shot like other films it wouldn't be this good and i consider this as my top 1 favourite Matt Reeves film now yes I've seen Batman in theatre but this one totally shocked and blew me away such a rare gem of a direction i wasn't expecting what I just saw when I saw that there are two more parts but not Directed by Matt Reeves I decided to only watch this but now this one is so good it makes me curious to check out the other two irrespective of another direction but maybe they got inspired by your style and mixed it up with their direction and presented to audience and made it watch worthy i literally am in an awe of this film. Right now sir hats off to you for making this masterpiece you deserve more and more appreciation because you made a fantastic masterpiece I mean simply amazing it is this film ! 10/10 to Matt Reeves's Cloverfield.

Lotta people don't know they changed the size of the head of the Statue of Liberty for the movie. In this trailer its right around the ACTUAL size of the real thing (close to the size of a big SUV) .... but people complained it looked to small because most think the SoL is much bigger than it is. In the movie they increased its size by 50%.
