I had to delete my comments on the Mercury video cause people forget others are allowed to have opinions haha.
I personally love the Proteus as well. Been using them the past couple of weeks. They’re clean but still have some character. Softer wide open, some tasteful CA in my opinion. It would be hard to chose between the Mercurys and these. It seems for things requiring a cleaner deliverable.. the Proteus. And then anything where character is allowed to be at the forefront.. Mercurys. Just wish the Proteus were a tiny bit smaller, but they look heavier than they are for sure! And the small pincushion, while in use, aren’t as distracting as I thought they would be

These are the first anamorphics that I have actually been interested in as a lower end owner/operator. My only concern is long term reliability, tolerances (I've seen reviews that mention that the mount has room to rotate on the pl mount locating pin), and whether they laowa can keep the cost and performance similar for the upcoming wide and telephoto lenses. So far, I am impressed.

Would have been nice to do a side-by-side comparison with the Cooke 2.3 Anamorphic lenses.

Not bad but 18k for a couple of Laowas no chance haha wait a year they will be at the fraction of the current pricing. Saw exactly that with Sirui

These are built infinitely better than sirui lenses and also perform much better. 18k for a set of 4. So roughly 4500 each. Honestly priced really well for how well they perform!!

@@NorthwestCameraCo haha fair enough I would probably say the same if they sent me a set 🫡

If we had them in stock while we got these for testing we absolutely would have. I’ve shot with the cookes extensively and these are probably closer to those than any other set out.

@@NorthwestCameraCo Thank You yes I have rented them a couple times and (there is another hard to find youtube video of a kid comparing proteus and cookes) that is the best for depth and character. I think I was expecting you to compare with the cookes on account of the title... I agree these lenses looks EXTREMELY close to the cookes. Proteus have a bit more magenta color to them.
