I bought my Denim blue Spark brand new in 2013. Base model, with a manual transmission. Overall, I've enjoyed the car. It had quite a few mechanical hiccups between year 3 and 7 of ownership, but all the bugs seem to have been sorted out as its been incredibly reliable for the last 3 years. I wouldn't buy another one though if I was given the chance.
I drove my sister's 2015 spark from Oregon to Arizona last summer. Car was a little squirrely at 80mph and not very comfortable ((noisy at highway speeds)) but I didn't feel unsafe. Now when I went on a road trip with my friends 15 years ago in a 1994 Geo Metro 3 banger that was an Automatic with A/C from Oregon to Texas...😓That was an experience.
I had one of these as a rental. It was surprisingly peppy and drove well for what it was. Ever since I got stuck with a Nissan Versa a decade ago, I'm convinced they put the most uncomfortable seats they can find in low-option cars as incentive for you to buy a more expensive trim level.
Mine has 150000miles I love it it's 5spd manual transmission is fun I have went through 5 sets of tires ,both front wheel bearings and a plastic coolent tank I keep the oil changed and run the crap out of it ! The starter motor just went out changing it tomorrow my self . absolutely a great little car I'm keeping it forever also has 8 airbags if I ever get into a bad crash I think it will air up and float away . Also I haul 2 kids ,wife and our bloodhound we all fit barely. And the am FM stock radio will pull in stations from 100s miles away fun fun fun
Bought one new for 12500. Wasn’t an awful car the only thing I’d complain about is even after taking the car to the dealer for regular oil changes they never recommended I change the CVT fluid. Coming from a traditional auto I never changed it and lost a trans. Just change every 30k.
I have a 2014 Spark 5 speed 115k miles trouble free. I love it yes its not fast but it goes 75 mph easy enough and gets me to work and back reliably. It is cute and tougher than it looks. I would buy another one not a CVT one but 5 speed yes it is fun to drive love it
We have a 2014 LS spark, bought it new. It has been a reliable car, two recalls to update software and one to replace the hood latch. I replaced the coolant tank due to a leak, this was caused by the way the coolant returns to the tank wearing on the inlet barb for the hose resulting in a leak. We use it mostly for a run around car in town but do take it on longer jaunts to the beach or mountains. It is not a race car by any means but will cruse all day at 70 MPH all the while getting 40 MPG. The only real issue I have with it now is paint, it is grape ice in color, and it has suffered some sun and UV damage, but it is ten years old and sits outside, I live in the southeast where it gets hot in the summer. The car is not one for everybody, but it suits my needs and purpose.
I was honestly thinking about getting one of these in the manual but settled on a manual 19 mirage which was actually reviewed here on this channel! This seems smaller than the mirage. I like the rear door handles
Chevy went out of their way to make you think you got some sporty hot hatchback when you really got a cheap city car. The racing motorcycle-ish gauge cluster and weird accents on the shifter really sell it. It looks decent and the color is fun. It's cheap basic transportation.
Drove four of the CVT versions throughout a single day before accidentally test driving the standard: I’d failed to note this one was a manual (which my wife can’t drive). The difference was dramatic -it really was like a totally different car. We decided to get the standard and it turned out to be the ideal car to learn manual on. Within a week she drove it solo cross country without incident and doesn’t go a day without saying how much she loves it.
The one in transformers revenge of the fallen was the concept car of the spark wich was called Chevy Beat and it has some different features wich sadly didnt make it to retail production
My 2005 Jimmy tanked on me.4 months back and then being April, too cold for the V-twin bike on a daily commute.... So I headed over to one of our local Dealers and asked what have you got in the 10k range,,, nada... ok so what have you got in that area.... they had a VW and a Spark... no automatics.... I said, look I don't need anything fancy, I just need to go from A to B. So they sold me the 2018. 1.4L manual Spark. It's freakin awesome. goes like stink. I've had it up to 90 mph in no time to pass someone doing 70~ish. The 1.4 litre std trans is pretty much geared the same as say your 5 spd cruiser ..... the only diff on the Daewoo being that 1st is bull-low... shift to 2nd at 20 kph rather than 40.....and 3 gear has slightly longer legs so a good push to 4000 rpm before shifting to 4th is a good thought here when you are on a long hill on the hwy before pushing into 4th then 5th. And Gas mileage.... My Jimmy , 4.3 L ,V6 got about 26 mpg on a good day, lol...... this Spark gets me, ...Not kidding here.... 44 mpg hwy according to my math and the DIC display. I was putting about $25 into the Jimmy on a daily basis, ( topping it off from 3/4 full...) , The Spark only needs about 14 to 17 litres every 4 days( from 1/2 tank ), I drive 31 miles each way every day so do the math. The EPA averages of 32/39 ... are understated..... if you ride MC and drive this thing like an MC you should get over 40 mpg on the hwy easily. The Spark's 9 gallon tank, (34 L ), takes 87 octane or better.... don't use methanol based crap... you will toast the O2 sensor, the manual says No E-xx ( ethanol additive type gas.... Ever ...) Ok away from the fuel..... Handling, ..the Spark must have power rack 'n pinion steering, (?), ... ( there's nothing casual about it, like you have with regular pit-man arm and recirculating-ball style steering ), ..... It is very tight, ... which means it handles like a very fast go-cart. or 4 wheeled MC that doesn't lean in the turns, lol..... Think here, like a Can-Am Spider.... SO do use both hands on the wheel at speeds over 65 mph, (110 kph).... like I said the power steering is Very Touchy. And use the Drivers RH arm rest so that you don't use the Stick as a hand-rest.... 3rd and 5th gear will push -back on the stick once you load the clutch. On Hills.... the Spark has hill-assist, meaning that the ECM keeps the brakes applied on a hill for 2 ~3 seconds after you release the brakes. Meaning ..... Foot on brake.... touch the edge of the friction zone, ... release the brake , release clutch ... go. .... No roll back into the asses that "skooch -forward toward your rear " when they see the lights going to change. But it is a std,, so keep an eye on the idiots behind you anyway. I think that's all of the Caveats I have about the little beast. Any Q's , just ask Enjoy Stay Safe
this car is designed to be korean kei car. for kdm it is equipped with five seats and 1 litre na engine paired with 4 speed automatic or for S model, that CVT. it is popular car for rural folks、 mums and college kids
I had a manual 13’ spark for awhile. It was a fun car to drive and very fuel efficient, however, it had an issue where the differential bearing starts to go and destroys the speedometer reluctor ring. Unfortunately, issues with the speed sensor puts the car into limp mode and with 130,000 miles and a few other issues it was not worth it to fix.
I hate to see subcompacts get cancelled. There are actually some people who don’t need zero to 60 in so many seconds. Anyway to each their own but I think the subcompacts are so incredibly handy City cars.
Look at the Fiesta. It made 130HP no problem, and because of it's weight, it accelerated just as well as a 180HP family sedan, without sacrificing much in the way of fuel economy. With subcompacts, it's very possible to have your cake and eat it too
It's just a very hard sell. The people who can afford these new can afford something nicer. Small cars feel very dangerous to many folks. Americans don't like hatchbacks really. A small sedan looks weird with all the safety measures. They look ungainly. Automakers have a very small profit margin. And then just basic styling you won't get many guys on bored. Take that with what you will but this looks like a girls car. Girls seem to go to masculine looks and it's fine. It's hard to make a guy go for a cute car like the 2rd Gen Beetle. Some cars like the mini and miata can vet away with this. Most can't.
@@baronvonjo1929 Everything you said is absolutely right. I guess it’s just a sentimental way of thinking for me. My dad won’t drive nothing but a Cadillac and a lot of young people don’t want small cars anymore. I was young enough at the time to drive small cars and appreciate them, I can also drive a stick shift or for that matter, anything with a clutch. I’ve been surprised lately that so many people can’t drive a stick? Anyway you’re right about all you’re points, I’m just nostalgic for the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla of the mid 80s.
@Todd Giaro I think I forgot to say small city cars also are wied because I doubt most people stay in the dense cities for 100% of their driving. Not much of a market in my opinion there. I like the idea of cheap small cars myself. But I swear modern small cars (at least the ones in the 2000s and 2010s) Just feel REALLY cheap compared to other stuff. Idk if it's the deisgns interiors but it is just so noticeable. A few peolle in my family have 90s Ford Fiestivas. They loved them they were their daily drivers. I really think maybe one or two subcompacts good cut out a small market here in NA. But currently I don't think we could have multiple brands offering there own. It would really need to be deisgned well and specifically deisgned for American tastes. (Whatever that is) There is a market for small cars. But it's hard for automakers to justify. Also I'm talking about subcompacts. I don't think a city car could ever do well.
It didn't sell well in South africa for a small cheap car, and we love small cheap cars. Also Chevy left the country but before that it sold very truly terrible cars. I love the sonic too because of the transformers movies. Shout out from Johannesburg S.A
My 2014 5 speed spark has 330K. Runs like new. Vvt kicks in 3500-4 rpm. Cruises at 85 all day. Finally replacing front struts. I Just change the oil @ 5K w/ syn. My engine revs all day at 4-5K rpm. Seriously(Still) Wont die. Lol. I see 500k mikes in its future. Just Change the oil!!!!
so happy to see this cuz i’m getting a 2014 spark and everyone saying it’s trash is worrying me 🥲do you have any other tips to keep it well maintained?
Our 80 year old neighbor had a spark in 2012. It looked like a golf cart next to my LeSabre. It probably is a good car for a senior citizen. They don't drive very fast or very far.
i have a daewoo descendant. 2004 suzuki verona, us market daewoo magnus. only difference between the two are the grill, badges, and logo on the steering wheel.
If l weren't a professional uber driver I would totally buy the chevy spark with the manual! Good review the CVT is complete rubbish! #ZACK LIVES MATTER!
I love my spark! You're right it has shit for power but it's a great dependable little car and you get great gas mileage. You just can't be like, bolting out in front of people or trying to gun it to get around a car or something on the interstate. Which come on, we shouldn't be doing that anyway lol. Has a pretty high safety rating too. It's really funny because I have to turn off my AC to get past this one dangerous blind spot on my way home lol. If I try with my AC it will not go lol 😂
It's an affordable car that beats the bus, bicycle and walking. In that respect, it's priced and performs perfectly for those who need it. It's also a cheap little car to tow behind a RV.
It was weird in the UK all the Daewoo models were renamed Chevrolet... i think that is why a lot of UK guys think Chevy is a cheap budget brand as we dont get the real Chevrolets here... The Spark was called a Daewoo Kalos before being called the Chevrolet Spark... even the Top Gear reasonably priced car was a Chevrolet Lacetti which was a Daewoo Nubira before
These things were so popular in Mexico back in the day, it was such a popular car that Chevrolet refused to stop selling it when the new spark came out, they renamed it as spark classic while the new was named spark NG (new gen) and it even got a facelift and a new name (Chevrolet beat) so it can be sold for a third time. The cars were awful; terrible reliability lots of issues with the coolant system and poor build quality overall as well as no abs, no airbags, no traction/stability control and i believe not even hydraulic power steering. It was just the engine, the transmission, 4 wheels and a steering wheel, some cheaper version didn’t even included a radio lol. At least until the facelift. You can’t ask much for a such a cheap car that was sold for less than 10k while the cheapest ones were available for like 6k-7k
I could honestly see myself only driving this car through coastal towns by the beach where speed signs are posted at 45mph or below. Driving through downtown streets looking for those side street parking spots. Great for shopping centers. Plus if it gets dinged on the sides I'm not going to care about it. Besides those scenarios I wouldn't dare own one.
Here are some of the cheapest cars with an MSRP of under $15,000 in 2014: Nissan Versa Note: $13,990 Chevrolet Spark: $12,170 Mitsubishi Mirage: $12,995 Kia Rio: $13,600 Ford Fiesta: $13,200 Hyundai Accent: $14,545 Toyota Yaris: $14,845 Honda Fit: $15,650 (ok, it was a touch over...) Just because the Spark was the cheapest car you *could* have purchased, that doesn't mean that that was the cheapest car you SHOULD have purchased back then. The Yaris or the Fit surely would have gotten their owners better dollar-per-mile value for the 15,000 mile per year/10 year plus single owner scenario than the Spark. The Accent and Rio could've worked out OK as well due to their long warranties. The Fiesta, Mirage, and the Note...not so much.
I can’t speak for the others except for the Mirage which actually fare better for the $ but only small number of folks benefits from that mainly because it was NEW foreign car to the American market, unknown, and lots of reviewers and journalists bash that car hard. Nowadays, it gets a lil respects for being the last hatchback variant for $20k and data from ownership reviews. 2023 Nissan Versa, at the moment, is a hair cheaper than 2023 Mirage. Both are different animals.
Dude I'm not expecting a Hot Wheel car formula one here this is good it's a normal car it's good it's amazing you're not expecting any more than that okay if that's how its design it's just a city car
I drove a 2019 spark from chicago to norfolk.... Not a drive id like to ever make again! Loud, slow, and honestly not as good gas mileage as i thought it would get.
This car is a safety hazard Ever get hit with a truck with a Brush guard of Snow plow they will be killed. I used to drive a 2001 Nissan Xterra xe v6 4x4 with a brush guard on 14 1-2 year I know what was like on this brush guard on aboard a suv . Have a off-road light on a brush guard a get the mpg like a v8. Do you want to know about safety go for Any type of truck brush guard go for.
The only year of Chevy spark worth buying is 2013. That’s the only year that uses the same Aisin four-speed automatic transmission from the Toyota Yaris. The CVT’s are unreliable.
Tiny ugly cars need to be in bright, annoying colors so others can see them and avoid crushing them or using the bright, annoying colors to aim at and ram them..
I hope to get a 2020 or 2021 when I downgrade to my next car. I want an LS because I don't like all the gloss trim. And I like the simplicity of manual windows and locks with the technology package. Pragmatic

They did some cool colors for the spark, I've even seen a pink one. Gotta say the Mazda 2 has an even better green option though.

First car , excellent vehicle super reliable cheap to maintain good on gas. Also they are cheap second hand . Would be a good first car for somebody
I got a Chevy Avio 2011 how to release secure run awesome

Megatron entered the Chat…
It was weird in the UK all the Daewoo models were renamed Chevrolet... i think that is why a lot of UK guys think Chevy is a cheap budget brand as we dont get the real Chevrolets here...
The Spark was called a Daewoo Kalos before being called the Chevrolet Spark... even the Top Gear reasonably priced car was a Chevrolet Lacetti which was a Daewoo Nubira before
Still better than a mirage 😅
Sparks will fly from the ignition switch, yeah if I were you I wouldn't wear a seatbelt in that piece of shit in case I had to get out in a hurry!
Here are some of the cheapest cars with an MSRP of under $15,000 in 2014:
Nissan Versa Note: $13,990
Chevrolet Spark: $12,170
Mitsubishi Mirage: $12,995
Kia Rio: $13,600
Ford Fiesta: $13,200
Hyundai Accent: $14,545
Toyota Yaris: $14,845
Honda Fit: $15,650 (ok, it was a touch over...)
Just because the Spark was the cheapest car you *could* have purchased, that doesn't mean that that was the cheapest car you SHOULD have purchased back then.
I'm going to have to admit I thought that was the number 7 all over the gear as well...
I like seeing you absolutely hate something 😁
You have to hold the power button
That’s not Center console in the back it’s the in car bed pan
Auto transmission in car this size or engine under 2L is a mistake and/or a huge waste of money.
I thought the green color was only a 2013 option
Should do a rotary swap on this & upgrade the wheels & suspension lol
"can't even get out of its own way"! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
This car was one of the transformers In transformers 2
No that was the Sonic RS
I got one in white that I call my Tin Can Car.
Chevy Spark- A spoon full of sugar.. Yeah because it’s very bad for you!🥴😂
2 words.... Spark EV!
That's your solution... 400 ft lbs of torque in this very same car all available at 0 RPM! Please review that one next
Daewoo Llanoooos.
My mom has a 2019 Chevy spark and I've sat in the back of it plenty of times and it is not fun but you know you're sitting at least 🤣🤣
🤷♂️🙄😭🤦♂️
This car is a safety hazard Ever get hit with a truck with a Brush guard of Snow plow they will be killed. I used to drive a 2001 Nissan Xterra xe v6 4x4 with a brush guard on 14 1-2 year I know what was like on this brush guard on aboard a suv . Have a off-road light on a brush guard a get the mpg like a v8. Do you want to know about safety go for Any type of truck brush guard go for.
I can't understand why anybody would buy this over a Sonic or something.
My sister has the same one but dark grey i wouldnt buy 1 but fn little car
The only year of Chevy spark worth buying is 2013. That’s the only year that uses the same Aisin four-speed automatic transmission from the Toyota Yaris. The CVT’s are unreliable.
6:13 🤣😂🤣
Tiny ugly cars need to be in bright, annoying colors so others can see them and avoid crushing them or using the bright, annoying colors to aim at and ram them..
Girst
A spoonful of poison. LOL. Junk.
This car is in India . This car is boring for me. 😒
What’s wrong with that?
@@keithdosik I couldn’t drive a car that bores me to tears. Would hate myself every time I got in it
That what a economy car suppose to be!
@@JohnLowe-kt5gr exactly! Corolla is never about being fun LOL
I hope to get a 2020 or 2021 when I downgrade to my next car. I want an LS because I don't like all the gloss trim. And I like the simplicity of manual windows and locks with the technology package. Pragmatic
