ab-so-da**-lutely. RIP Ueli. And even though he went faster on another climb up this same face. I worked this out sometime back. IIRC, the time it takes to climb the stairs in the winning Empire State building [6000'] race in NYC (US) is something like 11m. Put that back to back six times (assuming you could without sucking in a lung) and you get 66 minutes. And yet Steck does this over thin air and without oxygen...and unprotected...in something less than three times as much. He's literally RUNNING up the north face of the Eiger, and completely unprotected. Most amazing feat I have ever seen.
Same here, the beautiful song too (welcome home son, radical face) it’s perfect for this video. This is such a meaningful song to me and then to combine it with Ueli, on this climb that took so many lives previously. He’s just scampering up the Eiger like it’s cool in under 3 hours. R.I.P. Ueli
I watched this video obsessively while going through the worst period of my life. It helped me immensely though I didn’t know at that time why I am watching it. Thanks Ueli, you lived to inspire. 🙏🏼
The small amount of frozen snow on the mountain is so slippery that any moment it could be death. People who do this kind of climbing are no ordinary men and women. Like a spider he kept moving on and on, mind blowing.
still so sad to know i wont watch steck do more of this.... but so glad this guy went and did more amazing shit in his short life than most could dream of. never stops inspiring me, what a beautiful person
It's amazing - he treats the Eiger like it's nothing. You think of these older guys who took days to climb up and faced bad weather, avalanches etc, he just goes up as fast as possible so almost doesn't have to worry about the conditions changing. It's almost like he's up and down before the mountain has a chance to notice him.
"Before it has a chance to notice him" I love that! Is this the same mountain that was the site of so much suffering and death? Ya wouldn't know it watching him 🤛
That was insane! But as he commented himself with more speed comes more risk. The two are inseparable. I saw multiple times on that summit ridge where it looked like he slipped a little and it could have been over for him. Scary. This guy was a huge risk taker and of course he's gone now. Still amazing to watch though.
He is one of those people who, although I didn't know him in person, obviously, gave me a lot of pity what happened to him. For me, one of the best mountaineers, an athlete, and a great person, with great values. We Spaniards will remember him with affection and respect (We do not forget his participation in the attempted rescue of Iñaki Ochoa at Annapurna) RIP 🙏🏼🏔️🌈🌌
Una leyenda. Subió sin botas de alta montaña y al estilo alpino al Annapurna cuando se enteró de que su amigo Iñaki estaba por fallecer. No hace falta decir más..Descansa en paz.
This was such a non big deal to him, that this video was filmed after his climb. He re-created this for the video within a few days of the record climb. We sit at home and watch.
5 years too late so my response is probably in vain, on the thin thread of probability that it isn't, the song is Welcome Home by Radical Face. A wonderful song by a highly talented musician
I watched this video when it first came out, and I still sometimes watch it in 2024. Ueli lived an amazing life.
Lo mismo hago a veces, para mi ha sido el mejor escalador de velocidad en montañas, grande Ueli Steck QEPD
Still the most inspirational video I've ever seen. "You gotta keep moving, having progress in your life - that's all about" RIP Ueli
Agree! What a source of inspiration for me too! RIP Ueli, you were the best!

my favorite Ueli video. Rest in Peace my friend. May you climb ever higher till you reach the Heavens.
This has always been one of my favorite climbing videos. The true scale and enormity of the mountain is really apparent in this movie.
Everyday courageously staring at the stern face of death.RIP.Truly inspired...from Kenya

R.I.P Ueli Steck- the best rock climber in the world
He was not really a rock climber. He was an alpinist. But yea, RIP.
Thank you Ueli for showing us what can be done, RIP brother !

The glorious evolution of gear and style. Gotta love it.

A very special man
Sleep easy
como se llama la canción de fondo?
Does anybody know how much elevation he gained from 2:14 - 3:20? Regardless, it would have killed me at that speed
Judging by the number of steps I'd say about 50 metres. In 1 minute, at 4000m. Pretty nuts!
Ueli, Ruhe in Frieden.
Superhuman achievement.

I love Ueli Steck !
grande entre los grandes Q.P.D.
My brain has trouble processing how much faster basically running up the side of a mountain is, compared to actually climbing it.
3:41 he almost fell there.
Does anybody knows what is music is playing on the background?
Welcome Home Son by Radical Face. Amazing song!
Coconut 81 Thanks! It's really beautiful!
Radical Face is amazing.
