Amazing how Ueli just destroys conventional mountain climbers and all their dangling ropes and clicking, clanging pitons and hooks! Just three thiings, conditioning, guts and ice axes......
Ali Frazier I don't think that word means what you think it means. Cocky is the word you may be after here. Ego is what drives a person to feel confident enough to get cocky but it mainly makes one hard headed about their abilities
Agreed. The moment you get TOO COCKY is when things get ugly. Unfortunately his fall to death was 1000 meters. Imagine the image of his torn body while his family has to identify his body. Very sad.
Kenneth Hoffman I think that's a very shit and untrue thing to say. ANY climber has guts, conditioning and ice axes. Those ropes and technicalities are for safety. I loved Uelis style but let's face the facts, it got him killed. Whereas those "conventional" climbers that you seem to think are inferior to Ueli are still alive. Everyone has their preferred way of climbing. Free solo climbing is a style. It's not better or worse. It's just what some guys and girls enjoy
I’m here after watching the Eiger Documentary. Im not a mountain climber, but from the comments below, I am very disappointed finding out that Ueli has indeed passed away. My condolences to his family.

Totally amazing what this man accomplished setting this record. I would agree with him that the climb should be about the experience rather than attempting to set records.

To All you Adventurers..Artists..Risk-Takers..
'I Salute you!'
Stefan did this in January in deep snow
rest in peace ueli, you are a real inspiration for me, even if i am not an alpinist 🙌🏻 🇨🇭
RIP an unbelievable talent tragically lost doing what he loved
He is so humble despite being an over-achiever in his field. I love that.
1:07 in a safe way...He is just asking for death. 100 times he does it, 101 could be less lucky. A simple mistake could send him down 1 km... Man, respect your family, mother. You are not alone.
You were right, bro.......
Exactly. I don't even understand this background music, as if it was
about a harmless hobby. This is more dangerous than fighting at war.
Both things are insane.
He went down to around 3000 ft. Its almost 1 km. you knew it all man! That's unbelievable
Katrina Richard He didn't sacrifice his dreams......he sacrificed his life.
That doesn't change facts. Just pointing it out. :-)
Ich erinnere mich. 2005 oder 2006 müsste das gewesen sein, als ich das Ding zwischen Kaffee und Abendessen gemacht habe
The amount of people who died trying to scale this for the first time (in teams with ropes) then this bloke just climbs it solo, free climbing (no ropes) in a record time. Wow!
yeah but back in the days they had much much worse equiement. also, climbing with ropes is considerably slower
how in the world could he climb through ice fields and vertical wall without any ropes? :O
@@sebastianloessl7982 when climbing such mountains there’s a largeeee portion that is luck
@@vanessaruiz4705 the ropes dont give you anything progression-wise. They are just there to catch you if you were to fall. But since you really dont wanna fall anyway, ditching ropes isnt as outrageous as it may seem
@@sebastianloessl7982 i know they dont help climb; it just looks too scary to do it without them. But Ueli was just too good, everything looked easy done by him.
Impresa leggendaria e inimmaginabile. Grazie Ueli x averci mostrato di cosa può essere capace un essere umano. Se lui può essere definito umano.
I watch these videos to help me feel bad about myself
Danke. Aber wie viele gingen free solo darauf? Nur 3-4 oder?
Ueli Steck war einer der Besten. RIP!
Absolutely mental how fast these guys are climbing such long routes!
I just started to explore the climbing world and knew Ueli from freesolo. i could hardly say that i entirely understand why warriors keep squeaking out to the summits at all costs, but I ultimately respect every one who is on the cliff or has devoted everything to the cliff. It is the glory to humankind.
RIP Ueli. you'll be missed.
Climbing that fast obviously sacrifices a large degree of safety - a fact understood be all, including Ueli Steck. It was only a matter of time before the odds rolled up and he threw snake eyes.
To the dead, ones owes respect. To the living, only the truth. -Voltaire
unbelievable! This guy is insane, how did he manage to do it? I wish Toni Kurtz is alive to see
this.
So sad what happened to ueli steck , he will be missed , loved watching him climb , incredible what he has done , Rest In Peace swiss machine
Amazing how Ueli just destroys conventional mountain climbers and all their dangling ropes and clicking, clanging pitons and hooks! Just three thiings, conditioning, guts and ice axes......
Ali Frazier And one hell of an ego
Leo Gacitua Ain't ego if you can pull it off..
My condolences to his family.
,,The mountains loved him mountains took him,, RIP
That video he did in Scotland was amazing too and very insightful with regards to how and why he expands his skill set.
Rest in Peace, HERO!
'Try to get my record back' is an understatement. Too humble.
Totally amazing what this man accomplished setting this record. I would agree with him that the climb should be about the experience rather than attempting to set records.
Most people are so terrified of heights and falling that they would never try this. I think climbers are thrilled and energized by the risk. The problem is that, like the mosquito, they inevitably get too close to the light
