So much respect for both of them, I'm not a climber but i always admired people that do what they are passionate about and are best at it like these two guys. It seems that Ueli spent his life doing what he loves most and even it was short life i think it was more fulfilling than the life of most people who lived to their old age. Anyway, i hope that something like that doesn't happen to AH any soon so we can enjoy watching his crazy free soloing for many more years ...

And he did take the light fast style to the biggest faces. I don’t know what happened with the Sherpa fight, but there is a mystical quality to every approach to Everest. He was running Everest when he fell. Preparing for an o2 less climb, speed climbing not just Everest but then across to the next peak before coming down!!! And I’m certain if he had not slipped, he would have accomplished that feat by now. I really loved watching him climb. There was something ephemeral about where he had taken his skill. Like he said right to the most precise edge
Ueli was one of the most inspiring, intelligent and accomplished God level alpinists, nature men and sport climbers. He was a throwback, an archaic revival, a re-wilded visionary. He did pass, like many adrenaline junkies, due to hubris. His obsession with achievement and trophies was his downfall. When we go into nature, remember to humble yourself and move slowly and spiritually.
Why the fuck everyone's assuming that he made a mistake? The section he fell of is actually one of the easiest on Nuptse, according to many climbers. He climbed routes a million times harder and he hadn't made a single mistake. Most probably he was hit by a falling rock, we'll never know for sure.
We need more heroes, more icons, more limit smashers. Uli is one. I thank God for him. His feats nourish the spirit and remind us that limits are simply goals to be achieved.
Ueli steck is a legend in the making. My huge respect to him. I really like the alpine style of climbing ,entire things you got to do on your own unlike those expedition where everything is set before you get there. Hope you will be the first to do k2 solo. All the best sir.
saw Swiss machine yesterday in Chicago. And he really is one! He has his safety with speed. Would it be more safe to spend few days on the mountain? To cary a bigass pack with all the safty equipment? I don't know... I just admire him! This was certanly the best film on Reel Rock Tour. Go Ueli!
My passion flows mainly through music practicing ( drums, guitar and keyboard ), and also drawing. I NEVER was into sports, especially team sports. I'm really into team work but I'm not crazy about rules of any kind. Thus said, I like warriors and gladiators. People who struggle to improve themselves and like to face new challenges. Just watched a great documentary about Alex Honnold on Disney+ and honestly, if I wasn't so old ( pushing 58 ), I'd try my climbing skills a bit. Yeah, lots of climbers end up dead, but I think I understand their passion. I tend to think that nothing happens for no reason. These height lovers aren't just a bunch of crazy suicidal show-offs. They are driven by the fear of the unknown and the inner power to overcome it. I totally get it, and now I admire them fully. It's better to die trying than to dismiss a wide range of life experiences just because some might be dangerous. Their accomplishments eventually end up boosting our collective genetic pool, and I for one, want to thank them all for their magnificently intrepid and adventurous spirits. THANK YOU. You have NOT died in vain.
Not that I ever would climb Everest, but for a legend like Steck to lose his life there should be a wake up call to people who treat it like a tourist attraction

At least he acknowledged the risk. Just a fat housewife here, but , I thought that mountain ice has a rep for being unstable and unpredictable. They go slow to assure max safety. He goes fast, doesn't test his footing. It seems he tested fate, no? RIP, Sir.
Ueli - You died doing what you love doing the most... You had THE most wonderful experiences the average person will NEVER know. Hope there are more Mountains in Heaven... Thoughts go to your Wife...
@apffiner you overstate it -- climbing is still a mental challenge when you're climbing on a rope. Climbing isn't about going out of your way to take on risk - I think most climbers, even bold climbers like Kevin Jorgeson and Ueli, try to minimize their risk. The mental challenge is working with, and controlling, the risk you've taken on, not just trying to make it more likely you're going to die. Ueli's passion for speed comes at the expense of safety, but I think he's still trying to be safe
