Elongation Technique 1. Rake in leave in conditioner with fingers, STRETCHING and smoothing hair downwards+outwards 2. Focus styling cream on ends to mids, in downwards/out motions. Maybe 1 scrunch to bring back some curl 3. GEL/MOUSSE for hold!! Smoothing DOWN and away from scalp 4. (Medium heat/medium speed, cool shot when hair overheats) Start diffusing roots and work your way down, not cupping or scrunching, just gliding over the hair. Move roots around for volume 5. Finish off with oil if wanted!
Perfect! Today is wash day. I will be trying these tips. I’ve never pulled my hair when diffusing, but that’s a great idea 🥰. We all know shrinkage is a sign of healthy curls, but when you’re trying to grow it out, you just want to see some progress, LOL!
Love this comparison! 🙌🏼💕 My curls are looser so I find that using a gel for hold actually helps to hold the curls up instead of falling limp throughout the week!
I'm actually here to get the shrinkage tips 👀😅 I love the shorter more defined look and I tend to get scissor happy so hopefully this helps with all of that 😂❤️
I’ll take the shrinkage for that definition! I find that my defined hair lasts longer. Like I literally just take it out of my bonnet and fluff at the roots and I’m good to go for three days. Whereas when I go for length I’m already looking frizzy day 2. And I’m am not one to a refresh process😅
I feel this! If I stretch and touch my hair while I'm diffusing, I just know it going to be frizzy the next day. When I air dry and let my hair shrink up, the curls look juicy for 3-4 days
I have biracial curly hair, and I've been trying to elongate my hair for years. Ànd my hair is way too thick for a diffuser. Shrinkage is kind of a blessing and a curse at the same time, but it's like one minute àfter spending at least 45 minutes elongating your hair with finger detangling, it kind of staye elongated, but throughout the day, it shrinks back up, and I'm like, dude, what the heck is the point in doing all this work if it's not gonna stay? Ugggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! 😡😫😫😫😭😭😭😭 But once I saw this, I'm like, Yes!!! Finally!! So thank you so much, Bianca.
I use a combination of a denman brush and the praying hands method when I style my curls. I have thick mostly 3c medium porosity hair with a small section of 4a low porosity and 3b medium porosity section in the very back. I usually have very defined curls but I don’t get as much shrinkage since I use the praying hands method at the end to stretch them out. I almost always use a gel, otherwise my wash n go will not last. Also if I diffuse, I don’t diffuse upwards. I always diffuse along the strands and I may pull on the ends a bit.
I wish there was a video on how to prevent hair from getting matted after washing, detangling and styling. After doing all of that my hair tangles when dry.
Mine too. Instantly. I just live with it at this point. I've totally give up trying to do anything with it when fully dry. It still looks nice, and combs though easily in the shower.
Add leave in and seal it with an oil or butter and immediately twist it right after. Make sure your product have slick to help with detangling as well 💯
This is so helpful for styling my 13 year old’s hair. We could never figure out why her almost waist length hair went nearly to her shoulders. Thank you for this!
That was amazing! I would love to see this done on 10" kinky coily hair and see how well it works. Tfs. We have different textures but subbing as I think I can learn a few new tips etc and I love your energy!
Thank you for this video! I’ve done my hair both ways but swore I was doing it one way all the time and then sat back confused as to why it wasn’t as cute as I wanted. 🙃 Now I can get my curls together!
Yes are you reading my mind? I just looked at your curls the other day and I thought wow I wish my curls were more elongated have hair to the middle of back but my shrinkage takes me shoulder length sometimes even shorter thank you for this!
Me too! I'm always stretching my hair every day, and It shrinks up às soon as I leave the house. Always, and I hate it. I really hate it. I look like Rosanna Rosanna Danna from Saturday Night Live. And Chakka Khan, and Diana Ross, all in one.
Wow this helped a lot. I did my first intentional curly hair routine today with trying to define my curls more and I did EVERYTHING you did on the shorter side lol… I came to RUclips to find out how to get longer loser curls and you told me everything I needed to know. Lol thank you ima try the gel next time for sure.
I wish I had all this info and array of product back in the 80s. I spent so many years straightening and could never embrace my curls. Now I do, a sense of freedom from the weather and constant damaging. Great to see videos like this, I like how she explains everything without boring us to death and annoying background noise.. ty ❤️
❤️this! I definitely need to try the finger combing and pull my hair while diffusing. My 3C curls are below my shoulders when wet, and below my ears when dry. 😆
With or without hair products, you need conditioner (alot) and some water, and a brush You do not need to spend money on 'special curl products' but if it makes you feel happy, go ahead. All it is, is conditioner and water
SUPER helpful! 💛 I have fine, high porosity hair and it’s amazing how it can look like I’ve cut it simply by using a brush vs my fingers. I have 3 different curl patterns so I ALWAYS use gel on my kinkiest section (I learned early on that gel helps with elongation) And depending on what I want, it’s good to know how to get that shrunken defined look for the days when I want to wear a puff when my hair is actually too long for real puffs anymore! Downward diffusing (mind blown 🤯) Your tips are on point!
I do everything she said for the elongated side and it just doesn’t work for me :( I really hate shrinkage and my hair comes out different everyday I really struggle with loving my curls. I just don’t know what to do anymore, I honestly have to refresh and fully redo my hair everyday and it’s tiring :/
Is it just me, but when I used the Twist by Ouidad products Bianca promoted a couple months back, they dried out my hair like crazy!! It was terrible! I bought the package of products that was recommended for me when I took the quiz, and I got that co-wash, the black deep conditioning treatment, their "shampoo", the curl refresh spray, the gel, and I think a leave-in, but all of it-- ALL OF IT, dried my hair out! It didn't feel moisturized at all, the co-wash made my hair feel squeaky when I would wash it out, and even the leave-in did nothing but weigh down my hair while still drying it out! My hair felt like straw! 😭 I was so devastated because I was looking forward to buying a curl care line that could do the same things the brand names promise but cheaper, and have beautiful curls like Bianca! But all it did was dry out my hair so bad and cause *more* breakage and hair loss! I feel like I've been chasing after my soft beautiful hair ever since using those Twist products, and using drugstore/grocery store hair products because I can't always get Curlsmith, Rizo's, or LUS! I decided though that I'm sticking to what I already know works for my hair-- even if it's on the pricey side, my curls deserve it! I just bought the new shampoo and conditioner for low porosity hair from Curlsmith, and I pray it works!
My hair shrinks up over anything. I have 3b/3c hair. But as annoying as it sometimes is… Shrinkage mostly means healthy hair. The more springy, defined the curls are, the healthier it is.
My hair must be super healthy then because even though my true length is bra strap, and wet it sits on my shoulders my hair LOVES to dry to my neck 🥲 I’m happy to have a lack of heat damage but I don’t feel cute with short hair
@@jadegemsss I feel cute with it being short, but I didn’t cut my hair for like four years so it reaches the end of my back when its straight, and when it’s curly its suddenly above my shoulder 😢sometimes I want long curly hair yk
i always wondered why my hair would always look different every time i styled it. im torn because i love the definition my hair has when its short but have been growing my hair out for a reason! will definitely try the elongated style on my next wash day to see if i should go back to finger detangling
This is super interesting and so helpful. I feel like even after almost 9 years I'm still learning about my daughters hair and texture/curl pattern. I will definitely be trying this method in the morning! Thank you. I don't have a cream product on hand to use right now but I will be getting one.
Giiiiiirl !!! Why did I never heard that before, I think you just changed my life 🥰🙏 I didn’t accept my curl because of all the shrinking and was depressed no matter how long they were it never showed !!! Thank youuuuuuu 🤩
Thank you 😊 Bianca! I have the Twist hairline and it's awesome 👌 . You show me how to diffused my dry curly hair in another and easier form. You're awesome 👏 👍. THANK YOU SO MUCH AND HAVE A BLESS SUNDAY 🙌 🙏 😊
Love the video! I just have to ask…did you wear your hair in a curly split level or did you end up stretching the other side to match? 😉 (No shade by this comment! Just curious ❤️)
I’ve convinced myself you filmed this video based solely off my insta comment about shrinkage so thanks for that 😌 you’re always going to be my go-to source for inspo and instruction ❤️
The Felicia Leatherwood brush is my staple 😭. I use it a detangling brush, amazing for really thick hair. It’s the only brush that can smooth my hair at once (after I detangle it and brush my hair into a bun). 😍
Thank you so much for this! I cut my hair too short and the shrinkage is making my hair look bad. I really needed this video right now and remembered you posting this video a while ago. Thanks Bianca! Always love the videos
I’ve been trying to figure out why I had the prettiest ringlet curls in my bangs in old pictures and it’s because I used a brush! I like my bangs to be defined and ringlet-y and my overall hair to be long and voluminous. Thank you for these tips! Trying this for my date tonight ♥️
Thank you sooo much for your video. I love being natural but the shrinkage I hate. Definitely gonna try your tips on my next wash day. I do have some of the Twist products so thats an even greater plus.
Love this! I have type 3b3c curls similar to yours and I hate the shrinkage and a bunch of volume on my hair! I live in a humid climate so I prefer an elongated look. I also don’t like to use Denman brushes or brushes in general because they tend to break my fine hair. Another technique to elongate are twists outs I can maximize my wash and goes that way. Thanks for the tips!
Hi BiancaRenee, I don't typically use any styling products in my hair due to it being fine. I also find that somehow the product always gets too close to the scalp and shows. Any tips for somehow getting volume at the top? Thanks in advance!
Thank youuuuu I was doing the coming with my daughters hair and her hair is belly button length (straight) but It’s always so short curly 😫😫 I can’t wait to try this!! Can you do your favorite hair products recommendation pleaseeeeees
Wow! What a difference! Thanks for this video, I’m definitely going to try this. My hair is the longest it’s ever been but shrinks to shoulder length. I just want long curly hair lol
My daughter said you look like a Barbie doll😊. I wondered what was wrong with my hair because the longer it gets the shorter it looks. It's nice to see different elongation methods
This helped me so much. When I was going through my “hair insecurities” stage I cut my hair with bangs and it came out pretty bad 😂 this helped me get it back even
I'm so confused, I've been watching videos since yesterday as I'm new to this .. qualifying my hair type and low and high porosity. My hair does not sink AT ALL but my hair is damaged/ always frizzy/ tangles very very easily. So am I low or high porosity? I stopped straitening my hair 4 years ago, and now I lost 60% of my hair and all my curls, my hair is so dry. Please help. What products should I buy to start this journey?
Hilarious that the definition/shrinkage technique is what I’m more interested in🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣I like my butt length hair so I won’t chop it HOWEVER it being so long also makes it heavy therefore making it elongated 😬gonna try the shrinkage side🤣
Does anyone know products for curly hair that don’t smell like fruit or coconut, but have more of a nice perfumey smell to them like L’Oréal or Redken ?
I'm giving this a shot. In the past, my attempts to elongate my 3c/4a superfine, high-porosity curls via styling has left me frizzy near the crown. Here goes nothing 😬🤞🏾
In such a crazy world...filled with all types of unpleasant chatter...I am so happy to come here and just enjoy the love of curls! Seriously, thank you.
My hair is curly and usually down to my butt. One day I came to school with my hair shrunken to shoulder length and everyone thought I got a haircut 😂 I look better with short hair I think but I have never had a haircut and I won’t start now
Wash day? I hate that phrase. It means you have to go with stinky scalp days for the sake of smelly hair days. The scalp should be everyday. Helps a person sleep better. Vitamins-nutritional factors help grow anything
Definitely trying this my next wash day. But question, I don’t normally use a brush during styling. I only use it in the shower after deep conditioning to detangle. Should I finger detangle for that step as well? It seems like my hair always shrinks up regardless of the tool or the way I stretch with blow dryer after diffusing. My hair is thick and low porosity.
Bro my math teacher is always asking me if I cut my hair bc sometimes I have it stretched in cornrows and other times its curly and the shrinkage is insane. Sometimes he doesn't even recognize me Which is not that bad if cuz hes kinda creepy..
Recently got bangs and yeaaaaa the shrinkage is real 😅 I even saved this video to refer back to later once I finally got some gel. Will be trying this out today. 🤞🏾
ive never really been into doing my hair into a ball so ive always naturally stretched my hair but i didnt know that was a thing and im gooing to try the gel tip and diffusing tip. i always stretched and flattend my hair at the top especially because i get a lot of frizz in my roots and towars the front of my head. but i never used gel and never diffused so i always wondered what i was doing wrong because my hair always ended up frizzed up. never been a fan of gel because i dont like the stiffness because if i move my hair around it would start to frizz and get knotted i always perferred a soft texture that could move freely. my hair texture is curly and trying to wear my hair wavy mostly resulted in frizz the same day or by the second day. this spring summer i want t0 try to get into more of the ball curly but there curly stretch hair that i think will be more my style
Wow! Beautiful 😍 I needed this video because I use to love definition and clumped curls but lately I been wanting to achieve longer curls! I Will definitely be trying these techniques next wash day! 💖
hello love, I am 13 with no clue how to care with my hair pls help me any one in the comments. My hair is frizzy and looks good only when wet i am insincere with my hair as i have been washing it everyday as i know how bad it is pls help me i fell so ugly with my hair
Thank you so much for the video. I am going to share this on the long hair group I belong to on Facebook for my other curlies. You are so right that shrinkage ( not a bad thing if that is the look you are going for) can be a little discouraging when you are trying to grow your hair and see the growth. My hair is actually waist length, but shrinkage brings it up to bra strap length. I am totally going to try this and maybe finally get a diffuser for the winter ( I really want to try that stretch diffusing). Thanks again♥
That is the magic of having curly hair, we can have so many different styles just changing techniques and products...
curly hair just has something about ittt ❤️
I concur
The best of the best !
Or when u want short hair
This has been really helpful for me in my career as a super spy. Lol Enter a room curly, style differently and come out a whole different person.
It's a blessing to have curls. You can have long hair one day and short hair the other without cutting it :)
I literally was gonna comment this exact thing LMBO! Curly hair is magical 😁
Literally how my hair was it was so long wet and then so short dry 😭
Elongation Technique

I agree 100% You do want to see some length lol

Same for me🙋🏻♀️
I wish shrinkage was a problem and not a goal 😂😂😂😂
I'm actually here to get the shrinkage tips 👀😅 I love the shorter more defined look and I tend to get scissor happy so hopefully this helps with all of that 😂❤️
Well, in my experience using a brush and creme conditioners makes me hair shrivel up like no other.
Same here
Use a lot of water and brush with a fine teeth brush and finger coil in small sections it will shrink like never bwfore
Me too 😂 my hair is recovering from damage so I’m trying to see if these help make it look healthier lol
@@lunaas1029 girl have you not seen Bianca's new reel about those heat damaged ends? Cut it offf😂♥️

This video came just in time. Today is wash day so I'll be trying out the elongation technique.
Did it work?!
I wouldn’t say shrinkage is a struggle, I like my shrinkage, it means my hair is MAXED defined
I hate it! It looks like my hair is ear length but my hair is in the middle of my back.
I personally like shrinkage for my hair, too. If my curls don't shrink up, then they look limp & will have no bounce.
And healthy😍
I wish there was a video on how to prevent hair from getting matted after washing, detangling and styling. After doing all of that my hair tangles when dry.
Mine too. Instantly. I just live with it at this point. I've totally give up trying to do anything with it when fully dry. It still looks nice, and combs though easily in the shower.
Trey adding oil at the end
Add leave in and seal it with an oil or butter and immediately twist it right after. Make sure your product have slick to help with detangling as well 💯
Are you deep conditioning ? That helps a lot .

I use both of these methods! The elongation method for the sides of my hair, shrunken method for my bangs (well they're extremely overgrown now XD)
Omg i was wondering how to make my (not cut) bangs look like bangs again cuz my hair grew. Such a good idea
Thank you for this video! I’ve done my hair both ways but swore I was doing it one way all the time and then sat back confused as to why it wasn’t as cute as I wanted. 🙃 Now I can get my curls together!

My favorite soft hold gel is the Shea moisture 100% virgin coconut oil styling gel. It’s amazing.
im OBSESSED thank you sm as someone who hates having my hair short I'm glad to have a video showing I can have definition and length! love love love

Bianca darling, I love your videos-so informative and fun! Will you please review the Length-n-Lock product by Moonlit Ringlets?
❤️this! I definitely need to try the finger combing and pull my hair while diffusing. My 3C curls are below my shoulders when wet, and below my ears when dry. 😆
I don’t “scrunch” and it shrinks and if I “smooth” it down it shrinks…if I use gel it shrinks…😂😂😂any suggestions

Ouidad
Ouai
when my hair is wet, it's all the way to the middle of my back, and when it's dry, its like an inch below my shoulder 😭
I'm giving this a shot. In the past, my attempts to elongate my 3c/4a superfine, high-porosity curls via styling has left me frizzy near the crown. Here goes nothing 😬🤞🏾
Great video!! 😁 I always get asked did u cut your hair when my curls look short lol 😂
Thank you so much for this video, Bianca. Do you HAVE to use twist for this routine to work?
Definitely trying this my next wash day. But question, I don’t normally use a brush during styling. I only use it in the shower after deep conditioning to detangle. Should I finger detangle for that step as well? It seems like my hair always shrinks up regardless of the tool or the way I stretch with blow dryer after diffusing. My hair is thick and low porosity.
if i do that whole finger detangle thing I'm probably gonna have so much frizz lol
This video is exactly what I was looking for, thank you 😊
Bro my math teacher is always asking me if I cut my hair bc sometimes I have it stretched in cornrows and other times its curly and the shrinkage is insane. Sometimes he doesn't even recognize me
Which is not that bad if cuz hes kinda creepy..
Recently got bangs and yeaaaaa the shrinkage is real 😅 I even saved this video to refer back to later once I finally got some gel. Will be trying this out today. 🤞🏾
i feel like the shrinkage part, the curls would last longer than the other part cause they're more defined, but both sides the curls look amazing
ive never really been into doing my hair into a ball so ive always naturally stretched my hair but i didnt know that was a thing and im gooing to try the gel tip and diffusing tip. i always stretched and flattend my hair at the top especially because i get a lot of frizz in my roots and towars the front of my head. but i never used gel and never diffused so i always wondered what i was doing wrong because my hair always ended up frizzed up. never been a fan of gel because i dont like the stiffness because if i move my hair around it would start to frizz and get knotted i always perferred a soft texture that could move freely. my hair texture is curly and trying to wear my hair wavy mostly resulted in frizz the same day or by the second day. this spring summer i want t0 try to get into more of the ball curly but there curly stretch hair that i think will be more my style
Wow! Beautiful 😍 I needed this video because I use to love definition and clumped curls but lately I been wanting to achieve longer curls! I Will definitely be trying these techniques next wash day! 💖
Thank you I needed this when my hair was longer lol and before I chopped it off…but I’ll use this for when I grow it back out.
hello love, I am 13 with no clue how to care with my hair pls help me any one in the comments. My hair is frizzy and looks good only when wet i am insincere with my hair as i have been washing it everyday as i know how bad it is pls help me i fell so ugly with my hair
The twist conditioner is so good because it a conditioner, leave in and a styler and when u use it u don’t have to wash all of it off
Great video, thank you! Do you use heat or cool air when you diffuse with the blow dryer?
Wow. Going to try this. I get the same amount of shrinkage. Tomorrow is wash day.
Bianca. Using Twist!!! I love love the black bottles of twist and their boss bounce! Very moisturizing. Just started using the co wash you showed.
I’m so surprised Twist is not getting more attention.
Everytime I curl my hair and it get shorter they're like "Omg you cut your hair"
Can you try the new L’Oreal professional expression line?
Love this comparison! Love the elongated side but I also like the shrunken side. Thanks for the tips!
Wow wow wow. Definitely a huge difference! Thanks for share 💜
Whoa wow!! That is such a gorgeous difference
