I've been looking for .22LR Federal Punch ever since they first came out, unsuccessfully. I'm even on all the "notify me when in stock" lists. How did you get ahold of them?
I think people don't Trust it vs. respect it, because of it inconsistencies as far as ignition and reliability. If it were a center-fire cartridge and was more reliable, more people would Trust it and then comes the respect. Of course no one wants to be shot with a 22. The problem is, is the damn thing going to go off when it needs to or is it going to be loaded consistent, even in this demonstration velocities were all over the place.

@@GunSam You recently were having some big ol' calibers with buffalo bore ammo. Now you are going to the 22 which most of us started with. The perfect caliber for newbe shooters.
☝️This is 100% correct. Out of a short barrel, there is not much difference between Velocitors and Mini-Mags. So if you or someone you love is carrying a .22LR, you gotta go with either Stingers or these new Federals. I doubt the person being shot with either one would be able to feel the difference.
Punch looks to have outdone Stingers in consistent velocity from round to round, actually getting published velocity (or better), functioning consistently between a rifle and a pistol. 3gr less mass is rather insignificant, but it seems the bullet shape and powder Federal is using here is much more worthwhile than CCI Stinger when it comes to penetrating, getting consistent velocity.
I was particularly disappointed in the Stingers in Lucky Gunner's tests. It'd be interesting to see how the Punch does in your new Beretta in gel with just the denim.
Interesting. The Punch looks like a good design. I would put in a good word for the CCI Mini Mag HP's as well. They generally have decent expansion and more penetration than the Stinger. They are my preferred load for ground squirrel population control
My number one characteristic is that the round feeds, fires and ejects perfectly EACH AND EVERY time. Since l use semi autos that's the critical issue.
Why your using semi autos for 22 makes little sense in 2021/2022. You can get more firepower in the same package. For snakes or whatever i guess it makes sense but why not use a derringer or revolver that will be more reliable with the smaller caliber? And if it’s for self defense you should just get a 32/380 if you prefer the smaller sized guns
@@BB-1990 well obviously no . Your basically sacrificing bullet weight in order to have more ammo capacity . Which i guess makes sense but it’s still a dumb reason
Just bought that roughrider few weeks ago. Very cool pistol! Fits holster for ruger single six perfect! From Galco. Actualy fits more perfect than the ruger. Like its made for the heritage roughrider.
I have an old nylon 4" revolver uncle mikes that it fit in well like that. More generic and not molded, but serves my purpose as I dont conceal the thing.
One thing that has bothered me about Federal .22 rounds that I use in both my revolver and my pistols is that although the ammunition seems to work fine at the range, the crimp is often loose on the bullet. Remington Golden Bullets are notorious for this with the bullet often able to turn 360 degrees in its casing. I believe that is related to how often those rounds fail to fire, even with a good pin strike. But with various brands of Federal ammunition, I often see loose bullets that can wiggle back and forth a little bit in their casings when gently twisted. For me, that rules those Federal rounds out as a reliable self defense round since they are obviously not sealed enough to keep out water or moisture when used for pocket-carry. | For example, in my most reliable Federal Auto Match, I find about one in three bullets will move just a little because of a loose crimp. But it is similar with their other brands. With the Remington Golden bullets, it's just about all of them that are loose. With the CCI Mini-Mags, it's none of them. I load my handguns with Mini-Mags unless I'm just target shooting. So with this Punch looking so promising for use in a revolver, the question is, "Have you looked at how snug their bullets are in those Punch casings?". If so, what did you find? I might want to try some if they are tight. Thanks!
I have not had one loose bullet in the punch ammo to date or a ftf or any other problem, fed auto match is garbage, remington gb is about the best bulk ammo you can buy,I just got done shooting a 1400 rd bucket of gb loaded in the mid 90s not one failed to fire, the loose bullet your talking about comes from the bullet design it's a heeled bullet, cci mini mags are a premium ammo reflected in the price,my conclusion has been I only by remington gb in bulk ammo its by far the most reliable,I carry fed punch for self defense, cci stingers used to be it but the punch walks all over it in penatration, just a little history on the remington gb ammo it was designed for there nylon 66 in the late 50s early 60s they haven't changed the design or powder or bullet or priming or case since,if you had any ftf it's probably a storage problem
I understand that comparing high quality .22s is often just a matter of splitting hairs, but I'm still a fan of the 36gr Mini-Mag plated hollow point. They consistently penetrate 11 inches in other tests and sometimes expand a little in a handgun, about to a wadcutter.
Remember it's not about penetration if you hit an open cavity in the body and go all the way through you do effectively no damage. If the bullet is longer and thicker and tumbles more gonna cause way more damage
I used to use stingers in my ruger sr22 years ago but I will have to try the punch if I can find it your old rifle reminds me of my old wards western field rifle single shot bolt action with peep sights cool video
I first used the Stinger a year after it came out. Back in the mid 70's I've camped in the Black Hills with friends while stationed at Ellsworth AFB. I had a Winchester 190 that I often brought along for extra meat at times, usually rabbit. Once, on a riverbank, I tested the Stinger against the MiniMag. I shot twice into the packed mud there, almost clayish. First was the MiniMag. That round put a 2" diameter hole deep into the mud. Then came the Stinger. That round only went about 2" into the mud, but that was around 6" in diameter. That clay-like mud flew everywhere getting mud on me, my rifle, a friend that was with me and also my rifle. I understand how the ballistics gel is used to simulate flesh but that mud gave me a lasting impression of the Stinger's potential. My point with the packed mud was that I thought the moisture content in the mud helped to mimic the effects of the Stinger on flesh w/blood a touch more than with the gel, IMO. I no longer own the 190 but I do have a Ruger 10/22 and it's available as one of our home defense arms. It's been my opinion that getting hit with the Stinger would be most likely be non-lethal but the wound would cause such excruciating pain that it would stop an assailant/intruder in their tracks. For that reason I trained my wife to go for the Ruder first, if possible. No kids so there is a round in the chamber but on safe. She learned well to simply push the safety and pull the trigger. Her training mantra is, "Push, pull, pull, pull and keep pulling until he's down and writhing." Back to the ballistics gel for a moment. I think it has it's merits but I believe that mud, with it's moisture like flesh, gave me more information than the gel in a home defense situation. As a side note, back in South Dakota, we often went shining rabbit outside the Bad Lands. Once we stopped where there was a doe on the side of the road. From the backseat I got out and rested the 190 across the roof of the car, steadied and took three shots, head shots. No rabbit that night but we all shared in the venison.
My ex-wife was "limited" to .22 pistols as, due to a car crash her shooting forearm was held together by a plate and screws. But she was DARN accurate with her Beretta 21, PPK/s, or my Walther P22. Back then, we loaded hers with CCI Mini-Mag solids as that is what fed most reliably and I don't think we ever had a FTF. Anyway, I don't tote a .22 much anymore BUT, I DO have several .22s so I think I need to find me a supply of this Punch ammo and lay in a stock of it for when I ever do! With that kind of performance, it might even be a better general purpose woods gun for around here than any other .22 loading (feral dogs, wild pigs, and the occasional two-legged snake ;) ) but all in a package that is easy to tote and serves well for the usual targets of small game and venomous snakes (the no-legged kind). Excellent work and very informative as always. Thanks!!!
I have shot hundreds of ground squirrels in California since the 1960s through 2010 Both as a youth and as a Father teaching my Kids to hunt when they were young. Marlin 39A , Ruger bull barrel and the S&W K-22. Until CCI came out with the Stinger often they would escape into their holes. As soon as I began to use the Stinger- none escaped anymore. California still offers 10 cents per tail for each of these, which pays for all the ammo plus lunch on those hunts. The hours and years I’ve spent shooting these have given not only me but Uncles kids and friends hours of enjoyment and practically teaches hunting skills for big game. Other ammo became available but I had bought thousands of them on sales and never saw any reason to replace them. Also I have taken foxes, coyotes , crows, bobcats ,rats ,rabbits , raccoons with the same. Thank you. Mike
Yeah, old school .22 ammo isn't that great. I used to hunt fox squirrels with one of those .177 break barrel guns that shot at 1,000 FPS and it would knock them dead easily. Then I would do it with basic 40 gr .22 LR and was surprised that half the time they ran off. I think for small animals, even 40 gr is too much momentum, passing through a creature without dumping much damage.
An eye opening test. I kinda dismissed the Punch from earlier tests given how similar those rounds were compared to the Stinger. But you demonstrated a real difference here. I still think going with a lighter bullet to be something of a mistake in a bid for more velocity. I would really like to see a 40 grain Velocitor flatnose. That bit of added mass could carry it further.
The CCI Velocitors might work similarly to the Federal Punch. It is a hollow point with a flatter nose designed for small game. It weighs in at 40 grains and a listed velocity of 1435 feet per second in a rifle. Also 22 long rifle rounds do tend to produce their highest velocity in 18 1/2 inch barrels. At this barrel length the powder charge is fully consumed and as barrel length increases beyond this pressure drops and the bullet begins to decelerate which would explain why your velocity with the stingers came up short.
Tools&Targets did a comparison of velocitor to punch and the velocitors werent even close to the punch. The velocitors faired about the same slightly better for penetration than stingers. Nothing beats the punch with penetration as far as penetration is concerned.
I like the mdf twist. There are so many simple gel tests to watch, that any addition of other materials that mimic bone or other hard substances, is nice to see. I disagree though, that the stinger is bad out of the rifle. I think the penetration with the over .41" expansion is excellent.
In a short barrel, I don’t think a velocitor is significantly better than the mini mag. In rifles it is better. I am guessing that the velocitor uses a slower burning powder.
@@charlescottrell8377 The difference though, is the Mini Mag in a hollow point only comes in 36 grain that I am aware of, but the Velocitor is 40 grain. Not a big difference, but with so little to work with that might be just enough difference to penetrate that extra inch you might need.
When I bought my Ruger 22lr LCR10 months ago, my gun shop guy recommended the Federal Punch, and it did not disappoint. I carry 8 rounds of the Punch when I have the LCR on my belt. It’s also easy to carry extra rounds of this size without it being too obtrusive. It’s therefore economical to shoot for both practice and self defense.
I mostly use Rem Golden Bullets & Vipers for small game . For defense I would use CCI Velocitor , 40 gr mini mag solids or Rem Vipers . . The punch did well !! Also shot shells & brick Winchester for vermin in a trap >> Rats ! From Rifle or Handgun .
This is science! the Punch is out there on some shelves and online as of 5/23/22. Have seen a Sportsmans Warehouse. It's a snappy little round. would like to try it small game hunting.
I believe FBI statistics said a lot of the lethal shootings are with a 22 caliber. People don't realize how fragile the human body is. The hyper velocity 22 will definitely kill you.
I just added several boxes of this stuff to my collection. I’m thinking about switching my edc to .22 m&p compact as I’m not convinced my .45 in the summer time is adequately concealable.
The police officer who taught my ccw class told me that in Florida to not be so concerned about printing, if that’s what you mean by “concealable” - he said you do not have to tell anyone what it is if they ask, you can lie about what it is, as long as it’s completely covered you can carry a desert eagle same as you can carry a mouse gun
I have my M&P .22c every time i go out. Keep it loaded with CCI Velocitors and have no worries. I also carry other guns on my hip when i have on an oversized button up shirt with heavy pattern (Hawaiian). Nobody can tell i have a gun on my hip.
@@jeffroberts760 Criminals look for printing of concealed pistols more than soccer moms. The common dismissal of "everyone is just looking at their phones and won't notice" is not entirely true. I used to say and think it, too. The bad people you are carrying for are looking.
@@JesusisLORD77778 if I’m reading you correctly, you’re saying if someone prints then a criminal is going to confront them to steal their gun? Or kill them? Why would they move on someone who is equipped to defend themself?
@@jeffroberts760 Dude. It depends on their motivation as a criminal, or even their personality. You're giving them the option of getting a drop on you and killing you first or sticking their pistol in your face in exchange for your gun. They have the advantage as they choose when it starts.
Came here to say this. Also if your .22 of voice handles Aguila’s super sniper subsonic 60grain it yaws like a boomerang and out penetrates stingers on 15-18 lb marmots. With a tremendous difference in wound paths
So 8 months ago , just Watched Toolsandtargets test Punch and Auto Match. Jelly test. The Auto Match beat the Punch. That has never happened. Thanks GS
Always thought it was crazy that 22lr hollow points are more deadly from a handgun than a rifle... because when fired from a rifle they expand from velocity, but don't penetrate nearly enough... but when fired from a handgun they don't expand at all (usually), so they penetrate much deeper (usually 12" or more). Ever since hearing about that a few years ago (and seeing it happen in tests many time), it really started to bother me that most of the good, hotter 22lr ammo (like one's for self defense) are hollow point. When it comes to 22lr, the only thing you have is penetration, so why would they make them expand and not penetrate deep enough? (A good example is CCI Stingers. When fired from a rifle they suck).
I think the best option would be the right lead alloy that maybe expands 25% from a handgun, so from .222" to like .27-.28 caliber while retaining 12" minimum penetration. I think something in the 35 grain range could achieve this if an ammo company took the time to design it.
@@GunSam Wish I got some Aguila SuperMaximum before the shortage. It's only 30gr, but probably one of the best self defense 22lr roundss I've seen. Got CCI stingers instead, but they're HP. Makes me feel like CCI just destroyed a perfect round by making them HP.
Because the .22 hollow points are originally not designed for self defense. They are developed for pest control and varmint hunting - and there you need the devastating effect of a mushroomed hollow point on small critters!
Cynically ? Generic 40gr RN HV will do anything reasonably expected from a .22lr handgun for defensive purposes . Likewise generic 36gr HP from a rifle gives very good balance of some expansion with 14- 16 inch penetration from rifles . But hollow point bullets and pretty mushrooms look sexy in advertising , and their is market demand for " premium " ammo , and their just filling consumer demand .
I've got to give a partial update to my above comment . In light of Gun Sam's most recent video with Blazer 40gr RN out of the same short bbl pistol , the Federal Punch did indeed penetrate about 2in more than that particular brand of generic RN , to give credit where due . Is that meaningful ? Maybe. Will that difference be consistent with other brands of RN or different bbl lengths ? Dunno Does that raise Punch sufficiently to be a semi serious round , on par with say the various .32's or generic .22lr from rifle? No. But Federal may now legitimately claim bragging rights for this subcategory .
I've been a big fan of 22lr semi auto pistols and currently have five a simple test for me when I purchase one is the ability to fire a multitude of different types of ammo I always start with the bulk ammo and if it causes alot of problems that pistol is on the chopping block some of the best name guns will only fire high velocity expensive ammunition out of my collection now I was most impressed with the taurus tx22 it a true striker fire 22 and it has a high capacity magazines I fired and entire box of federal bulk and had only two failures to fire no jams at all and other ammo that I had that never futioned properly out of any of my guns worked flawlessly in the tx22 I often use it supressed with sub sonics of different king and had very few problems plus it cycles perfectly next to that the ruger sr22 was my number 1 and when companies made mag extensions that perform perfectly it would be and excellent carry gun with a high velocity round I've always used cci products because of there quality but my next purchase will be federal punch I've never tried before and some cci and do a little comparison of my own thank you for your very unbiased opinion and very professional demonstration
My only concern is over penetration by the Federal Punch. If you're having to repel an attack in your home and you happen to live in a condo or an apartment situation my concern is that the Federal Punch would easily penetrate walls and possibly do damage in adjacent apartments. Stingers will keep the damage "local". Remember too that shot placement is as crucial as number of shots hitting the target.
Love the 22 videos. I have the ruger wrangler 4.62" barrel and a old h&r with a 7" barrel , also a marlin model 60 and a henry 22 . I shoot 22s a lot so thanks for the info.
Great video Sam. I almost purchased a Barkeep revolver, but passed it. It's an impressive revolver and with these rounds in the cylinders makes it a contender. Excellent shooting!!!🎩♠️☯️
Thanks. I almost did too as I think my magnum cylinder would work on it as all their revolvers have a .224" magnum barrel. But, I didn't. I prefer this as it's more legit. I know it goes against common thought, but I find semi auto .22's better for self defense than revolver .22's. I mean, when you go that low and body shots are not working, you want a few more rounds that shoot easier and faster.
Thanks. I just bought a full size AR500 steel IPSC target. Probably weighs 50 lbs. I found through rough mapping that I have about 80 yards of a clear shot with flat footing to mount it. I plan to do a whole bunch of shooting that far for fun.

Recently bought the punch. But haven't fired them yet. I was a stinger fanatic. My go to round. After video still gonna love the stinger as always. But WOWWW on the punch. Gonna by more now.
I have carried and used both ..... federal punch works really well... pops almost as loud as a 9mm... wear your ear pro.... glock 44 with federal punch... I have not had any issues....
I tested 12 loads with a luminized board tough stuff and 2 handguns. 11 of the loads punch included did no better than golden bullets, thunderbolts, yellow jackets/ stingers..............All penetrated 75% of the board. Out of both pistols the cci velocetor blew through the luminized board and had huge sections of board broken out of exit from the 2 handguns and penetrated 25% of the second board.
I've always been curious that since the Punch 22lr ammo is specifically marketed for self defense, if the rounds are built to higher spec than say the mini-mags, stingers, etc.The argument against using centerfire over rimfire for self defense is that centerfire cartridges are more reliable with much less chance of a failure to fire (FTF). I read somewhere that the average FTF rate for CCI mini-mags was like 1 out of 500 rounds, which still isn't bad, but much higher than the average defensive centerfire (9mm, .40, etc) just because the primers are more reliable for centerfire.
Good info! I've been trying to decide between the "punch" and the Winchester "Silvertip" .22lr. I have a Ruger SR22 that has eaten everything I've put through it...so far. I picked up some Silvertip ammo at my local Walmart the other day for $10.65 a box, but haven't had the chance to shoot it yet. Winchester says their Silvertip 22s are optimized for handguns. Haven't been able to get my hands on any Punch 22s yet, but I keep looking. A head-to-head comparison between the two would be interesting.
I have a Side Kick revolver. I've tested Stingers in it and I get no expansion and the penetration is less than adequate. I really feel it is a bunch of hype for CCI! 32 Grains? Okay if it works. What DOES work is Winchester 40 Grain HP, 1,435 FPS ammo! Don't get me wrong, CCI makes great ammo! But, I am going to carry the Winchester stuff in my revolver from now on. I did my own testing... You guys do yours.. Don't take my word for it. K? I'd comment on the Punch,, but I haven't been able to get my hands on it. Thank you for your video. Rev
looking at the data, I would really enjoy an accuracy test on the bench, the fps of the punch ammo seems to be more consistent which would make a person think it would be more accurate all day on the bench. Love to see that comparison
You've got to find Aquila sss .22lr 60gr. Sniper subsonic. I think that might be the best self defense .22 out there, given it works in your gun. That tumbles and makes acceptable wounds for a .22lr. great video.
When I tried those at the range with a 2" LCR revolver, they would keyhole at only 5 yards and hit way off the point of aim. At longer distances they were hopeless. In my 21" rifle, they worked fine.
I remember filing the tip of 22 shorts to get more speed & better performance. not sure who said to do it . Shorts are good for quiet shooting in long bbl.

Want to see the Punch and Velocitor from the tiny Italian now!
Aka the Bambino!
I will do it. But, other than the magazine I guess they are now made in the USA
Amen! Read my mind. Love 22LR and my Bobcat. Ty GsRa❤️
I was particularly disappointed in the Stingers in Lucky Gunner's tests. It'd be interesting to see how the Punch does in your new Beretta in gel with just the denim.
Yes interested in that too
Stingers are overrated! I saw Lucky Gunners review too.
Velocitors win that.
I like the 22 Velocitors.
Thanks. I have several people asking me about a .22LR for self-defense and I'll refer them to this video.
Would have loved to see these “latest and greatest” 22’s out of the Beretta Bobcat, velocity, function, penetration, expansion, etc…
Interesting. The Punch looks like a good design. I would put in a good word for the CCI Mini Mag HP's as well. They generally have decent expansion and more penetration than the Stinger. They are my preferred load for ground squirrel population control
What do they expand to?
@@SR-wz2iv I seem to recall seeing some testing where they expand to nearly .40" from a rifle. Less from a handgun
I just shoot rodents large and small, with a pellet gun. 500 rounds for 8 bucks. I can't see fouling my 22's or using the ammo on one.
I think the cci stingers are amazing but the mini mags are different than stingers
Can this be said in a handgun as well?
My number one characteristic is that the round feeds, fires and ejects perfectly EACH AND EVERY time. Since l use semi autos that's the critical issue.
Why your using semi autos for 22 makes little sense in 2021/2022. You can get more firepower in the same package. For snakes or whatever i guess it makes sense but why not use a derringer or revolver that will be more reliable with the smaller caliber? And if it’s for self defense you should just get a 32/380 if you prefer the smaller sized guns
@@drugsarebad97 Because 22 makes more sense and i have never had a failure using CCI.
@@BB-1990 you literally can get 380 in the same guns that 22 has . Interchangeable barrels . 22 absolutely does not make sense
@@drugsarebad97 And 380 shoots the same huh? Same recoil, same time to get back on target and same ballistics?
Sure it's the same!
@@BB-1990 well obviously no . Your basically sacrificing bullet weight in order to have more ammo capacity . Which i guess makes sense but it’s still a dumb reason
So far, the Federal Punch has been a winner. It's a round that I would buy and carry with confidence. Great job as always!
Where can it be bought?? Been looking for it everywhere!!

Great test ! I’ve been using Federal Punch for 2 years with good results ! Great round !
I recently bought some of this stuff, I have seen nothing but terrific reviews on it.
Excellent - and appreciated revolver vs rifle tests. I'm sold on the .22l Punch!
Great analysis, best channel for any ammo related content. Great job!
Thank you for another informative test. I'm really impressed with your performance of the federal punch. Going to get some.
@@Crimsen13 Shock cavity, wound channels and penetration are all important in determining overall damage. As is bullet placement!
awesome video Sam. Thanks for doing things that I can't!!!
I barely can myself some days lol
My sister bought a Ruger SR22. I told her I will send her my minimags. They should be good for self defence.
They are, the 40 grain RN is better than the 36 gr hollowpoint. For reliability and performance.
I used to use stingers in my ruger sr22 years ago but I will have to try the punch if I can find it your old rifle reminds me of my old wards western field rifle single shot bolt action with peep sights cool video
First time seeing your videos here. I like the test and your interpretation of the results. I subscribed and will be watching more.
Thanks. I actually plan on a retest of the Punch .22 LR very soon. Just picked up a Taurus TX22 to properly test them better with.
Her training mantra is, "Push, pull, pull, pull and keep pulling until he's down and writhing."
Back to the ballistics gel for a moment.
I got that rifle for christmas a long time ago , love that old gun .
Thanks!!!
For shooters who carry a .22 for CCW, can you do that test using a self-defense size handgun? Something like a Bobcat, LCP .22, etc? Thanks!
Bought a Bobcat yesterday, so hopefully.
@@GunSam Punch was made for the 2" barrel, so that's what I was hoping for. Thanks!
Federal punch hits like a 22mag out of mi keltec p17
I was thoroughly impressed when I shot some punch last weekend. Such a gorgeous round.
Looking good greening up there!
id LOVE to see the Punch Vs. the Velocitor
I like the mdf twist. There are so many simple gel tests to watch, that any addition of other materials that mimic bone or other hard substances, is nice to see. I disagree though, that the stinger is bad out of the rifle. I think the penetration with the over .41" expansion is excellent.
I've used CCI Stinger for years and never had a bad experience. Never used it for defense, but for woodchucks.
CCI Velocitor is 40 grain, I wonder. . . ;)
Testing soon, but in my little Bobcat
In a short barrel, I don’t think a velocitor is significantly better than the mini mag. In rifles it is better. I am guessing that the velocitor uses a slower burning powder.
@@charlescottrell8377 The difference though, is the Mini Mag in a hollow point only comes in 36 grain that I am aware of, but the Velocitor is 40 grain. Not a big difference, but with so little to work with that might be just enough difference to penetrate that extra inch you might need.
@@charlescottrell8377 It's up to powder, I just know that short barrels more efficient with heavier bullets.
Lucky Gunner tested the Velocitor as the winner as far as penetration was concerned.
-However, that was before the Punch
Thanks for the video, I haven't seen any of the Punch yet around here. I think it changes the validity of the little "Summer" guns like NAA.
Stingers all day
This is science! the Punch is out there on some shelves and online as of 5/23/22. Have seen a Sportsmans Warehouse. It's a snappy little round. would like to try it small game hunting.

They are developed for pest control and varmint hunting - and there you need
the devastating effect of a mushroomed hollow point on small critters!
Dunno
Does that raise Punch sufficiently to be a semi serious round , on par with say the various .32's or generic .22lr from rifle? No.
But Federal may now legitimately claim bragging rights for this subcategory .
Awesome video! I only recently saw the federals and was really curious.
The Punch did pretty good. Wonder how they would do out of the Bobcat?
I will find out at some point!
Ought to compare the Punch with CCI Velociter out of a Ruger1022.
CCI 22LR 40 grain mini mags are my choice in a semiautomatic rifle or pistol
Same, CCI mini mag 40gr roundnose
My only concern is over penetration by the Federal Punch. If you're having to repel an attack in your home and you happen to live in a condo or an apartment situation my concern is that the Federal Punch would easily penetrate walls and possibly do damage in adjacent apartments. Stingers will keep the damage "local".
Remember too that shot placement is as crucial as number of shots hitting the target.
Punch sounds lots stronger also.! Great intel TY
No BS, good data, nice video!
I was hoping you were going to dig out the federal punch round, so we can see the expansion.
Federal .22LR Punch was $20)box at a gun show this weekend. MidwayUSA currently has it for $11.99/box.
Some of the best expansion I’ve ever seen from a 22 lr fired from a handgun was with Remington Yellow jackets.
Good shooting at 25 yards Sam. There is something satisfying about pinging a target with a .22.
Thanks. I just bought a full size AR500 steel IPSC target. Probably weighs 50 lbs. I found through rough mapping that I have about 80 yards of a clear shot with flat footing to mount it. I plan to do a whole bunch of shooting that far for fun.

I agree Punch wins, good video, thank you ! .
I inherited 2 of those rifles a couple years ago
Yeah would like to see it out of a bobcat or LCP 22. Maybe compare it with Velocitors.
Sam, are you going to do the Fed punch test in your new lil beretta 22 next?
Probably, I think I have a dozen rounds left of it, enough I would say, just not for much long range work.
NEVER HEARD OF federal punch ,but going to try it.
Love to see that comparison
thanks for a thorough video I would be interested in the comparison of Winchester silvertip segmented rounds to the punch
You've got to find Aquila sss .22lr 60gr. Sniper subsonic. I think that might be the best self defense .22 out there, given it works in your gun. That tumbles and makes acceptable wounds for a .22lr. great video.
Thanks. I used to shoot it a long time ago, I remember is was quiet too but made thuds when it hit the dirt far away.
IF your gun can shoot it w/o tumbling . None of mine can .
I remember learning to shoot at summer camp with that same rifle.
