- In this video I will be testing and comparing accuracy and terminal performance of a few different sub sonic .22 LR loads. I will be including CCI's new 45 grain loading in comparison to the others I have on hand. If you are a .22 rimfire hunter, this video is for you.
Awsum vid ! Hello from 🇦🇺Australia 🇺🇸 love your work
🇦🇺😎👍
Quality ammo , quality rifle , marksman behind the trigger ; produces good groups and GR8 videos !
You compared 5 of the best "non match" ammo available , and showed group size and projectile performance admirably . I recently tried the CCI 45g HP and was pleasantly surprised . Had been shooting the 40g CCI subsonic , but have switched . The Eley flat point HP is superb in 2 rifles . This shows the importance of keeping a record of what rifle/ammo combination can make on paper and in the woods . Combined with a suppressor , the subsonic rounds are extremely quiet . Last winter I took 2 grey squiirel out of the same tree within 30 seconds . Don't think they even knew I was there .
Hats off to CCI , and you 🍀
Thanks Jeff, You make a good point in your comments. I have been meaning to keep a written record of each rifles preferred loading (just like I do with my centerfire guns). I think I'll make a video covering that very subject. It should prove helpful not only for me but my viewers as well.
Thank you for a good and educational review on these subsonic bullets.
Can't wait to try the CCI Subsonic small game this squirrel season. Thank you for testing them. Can always check out Cumberland Outdoors to see what works.
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Nice shooting sir.. Ive been using CCI s for over 50yrs. in both 22s 22mag.. Fine Ammo. Gonna try some of that new 45 gr. Keep your powder dry sir.👍🏻🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Wow!! That second group you shot with the subsonic HP 45 grain was lights out. It doesn’t get any better than that. I’d call that minute of squirrel eye. lol I picked up another 581 last week that’s ready to go to the range either today or tomorrow. This one was made in the early ‘70’s and has the mahogany stock. The trigger seems a little heavy, so your trigger service technique may be in order. Great video and great shooting, as usual.
I really like the mahogany stocked Remingtons from the early 70's. I hope that little 581 will shoot well for you.😊
I am new to hunting and really enjoy and learn a lot on your videos.
Did you notice the squirrel running across your targets at around 11:08-11:12 in this video? Funny how in the woods they can be hard to find but you're out shooting and it runs right in front of your targets😂
I have lots of wild critters in my back yard.
Just bought a Marlin 99 m1...nice looking hope it's nice shooting. Bought it after watching your videos. Guess I'll be looking to buy some of this CCI ammo....gotta stop watching videos. Seems to cost me $$ when I do. I get that "itch" to buy things after watching you sir. Thank you. I truly value your opinion and expertise.
Ah yes the Marlin 99 M1. Great little shooters.
Fantastic video, brother. Great job. I’ll be on the lookout for this ammo.
Texas hunter.
I subscribed.
Thanks for a great rundown on some great ammo.
Bret and Linda Olin would be proud of this anmo
Winchester made a fantastic 45 grain subsonic..black box did not disappoint.
سلام دوست عزیز،،،من کانال شما را دنبال میکنم و بسیار لذت میبرم از ویدئوهای شما ،امیدوارم همیشه سالم و سلامت باشید.(من از ایران هستم)
I couldn't agree more about the ELEY rounds, the ELEY Sports performed like a competition round, very well made and consistent at a regular price, easily getting 0.5" groups at 50m.
Good ammo for the hunter for sure.
Excellent group out of the CCI 45gr. , I’ll try some for sure, thanks.
I have so much Aguila 60g subsonic, but I think I'm going to buy some CCI clean 45g! Appreciate your content!
I hope it works well for you.
I found especially with the aguila that it doesn't fallow other brands very well. In my mossberg's 46B(b) 26inch bbl the aguila ammunition gives me similarly poor accuracy after other brands, but from a clean bore and 10 fouling shots it tightens up to a pinpoint group and stays there, until I introduce another brand ammunition. I almost discounted the ammunition because of that, my use was strictly for target use and at 100yds. Not quite the same groups as your 40yd groups 😮 but on a good day, for me and wind it was suprisingly close with the version of Aguila I was using. I actually got a couple of 10 round groups at 100yds you could cover with a dime and only have a very small amount of fuzzy holes showing ( one of their target versions, can't find the boxes right now) and it was an exceptional day for me 😊.
The lubricant differences must have an affect on their performance.
Yep use Aguila and only Aguila unless you want to clean bbl between ammunition brands. Was really surprised just how bad it was following Winchester I mean pencil eraser sized group at 25yds to 1.5 inch group following Winchester. All this being subject to my rifles.
Great info.! I want to try some subsonic. very informative...Thanks!
I hope it does well for you.
Did anybody else see the 🐿️ that went by in front of the lumber pile? 🤭
Nice video Tom, thanks for sharing it with us. I may try some of that ammo on squirrels.
JT
I have an old targetmaster single shot that if I can figure out a way to mount a scope to it that wouldn't get in my way of loading it I would definitely squirrel hunt with it. That is a beautiful stock you have on that rifle
It is always fun to watch you shoot the 581, I love mine.
I think heavier bullets can be very accurate.
Let us know if you hunt with the that CCI 45 grain ammo.
Enjoy your videos, keep up the good work
The nice thing about Eley is it's a cleaner ammo and I should suppressed and I don't have to clean my suppressor too terribly often. My brother was 75 yards through the woods and he never heard me shoot but I got five squirrels
That was a really good video, thanks.
Note I found that the Aguila tolerates following the eley ammunition quite well.
I sorted 12 or so different types of ammo into groups by weight. When I got through, the sorted groups for each type mirrored what the targets looked like. In other words, for any particular cartridge weighed, the smaller the difference in weight for that type, the smaller the group on the target.
That CCI very uniform expansion. . Should be good ammo. Thanks
Just curious. At 3:50 while showing the Eley round, why does the case have a dent in it? Thanks, always informative videos.
I was fixing to tell you that you might want to shoot 10 of each ammo to acclimate the barrel to that load and then do your five shot group. But you just said it. I don't particular like shooting the below 1,000 ft per second I stay around 1057 to 1071 ft per second. And typically only shoot Eley whether it's team, match, or tenex out of my CZ 457 LRP.
Suggestions, Duke nailed the lube differences or I would have. 581 a mag feed, may have bbl issue like my 580 did, slip fit into rec'vr, new grn mtn bbl w/.003" press fit, way better! A 581 come to me, parts msg, so had to scrounge, again a greenie bbl, same fit up, wowzee!!! You have the chance, try the 541 m or s model next to your 581 and you'll see why they cost 2x-3x over the 80 81 82 series.
Remember each manufacturer uses a different lubricant. Thus, each of them need a barrel seasoning.
Your assumption is the lubricants are "conflicting" somehow?
I would imagine only needing to "reseason" a barrel that has been scrubbed clean.
@@williamgaines9784sometimes when changing ammo you need to shoot a few to get the barrel seasoned to the lubricant. I knew a well known rimfire match shooter that swore by dipping his shells in hoppes gun solvent !! He would out shoot most people so I wasn’t going to argue!!!
Thanks for the informative video. Is your rifle a Remington 581? It looked and sounded (magazine insertion) like one I used to own.
I use the Remington 581 for many of my ammo reviews because of it's solid platform.
Thanks for the review but “Every” rimfire rifle I own has a preference for certain hunting ammo. Most prefer Eley subsonic HP’s or RWS HP’s. They’re expensive but I don’t mind paying for quality. Those European brands shoot 50% or better in accuracy than CCI.
I agree fully. Eley, RWS, SK, and even Sellier & Bellot are pretty tough contenders in the accuracy department. I do however have a few rifles that shoot CCI stuff very well.
In my experience too really wring out accuracy differences or group shooting a benchrest type rock solid rest and an adjustable objective is a must also try free recoil trigger control.
With the right barrel twist or close in the Agulia SSS 22 LR is one of the best defensive 22 LR.
It is a 60 grains bullet in a 22 short case. In a 1-7 or 1-9 twist barrel it will group decent enough for close in work.
In other more slower twist barrels and pistol it tends to
" key hole" or wobble.
I have taken squirrels with it out of my Mossberg Plinkster. No more than 30 yards.
It is hard to fine and expensive. I was lucky an got 10 boxes of it years ago. The thought of an 22 LR with a heavier bullet than an 5.56 made me curious.
I have shot it from a friends revolver an it did nice within 3-7 yards.
I have had very good luck with the Aguila 60 grain ammo. Some of my rifles love it, while some are just average.
Can't remember if it was the 10/22 stock barrel or the green mountain but the 60 grain would not stabilize.
Tom how are you, and have you tried the Norman 24 yes 24 gr. Flat nose hyper velocity, call it eco speed, lead free,1706 fps zinc copper alloy.love watching you, and thanks for showing me how to fix my marlin 60 c.thanks again Tom.
I have not tried those yet, but maybe if I run across them I'll review it. I'm glad you found the Marlin 60 repair video useful. Thanks, and take care.
A squirrel ran through at 11:10 😂
I bought this song box in the store picked them up. Play shoot like the Dickens out of a 10/22.
Just a suggestion, when you are trying different ammo don't change your aiming point. Adjust the group to it after the group.ECK USMC.
Just had a coyote in my sites yesterday using Winchester 42 grn subsonic and it was a dud. I wish it was the CCW ammo!
that little chipmunk at 11:09 had a lot of nerve!
I think you would be really impressed with SK standard plus 50 yd groups through my cz 457’s which I have two of one with standard barrel and one target barrel one hole groups if you do you’re part thanks for another great video
Ha, just the video I was looking for.
I think the 45 grains CCI will no expand in soft animals like rabbits or hares, but exelent in small predators like foxes or our nuutria rats
CCI has almost always confused me by the vast array of .22LR. Does each option do drastically different things than the other? I can see about 4 options that make a meaningful difference, but the rest seems pedantic.
CCI also makes the, " Quiet"
Round. Rated at 770 fps. They
Are solid point but easily do
The job on varmints in your
Barn or chicken coop.
Suppressed 22 quite clean 45grain 720fps. At 20 yds accurate and don't need a muffler. Db. 105. My ghost 22 cal brocock 126. Pellet gun. Nuff said
@@craigtayntor489 Is that a CCI
Round also. If so I'd like to check
Them out. Thanks.
God bless bro
Try Wolf Target Match Extra I have done this test and Wof surpasses them all
The Key is consistant Muzzle velocity
I saw a moving target!!!
Good shootin!
Great video and cci is great ammo and also do you do 22 work videos
Did your gun warm up ? Nice 2 nd. Group.
I really like the Aquila 60 grain sniper subs.they are a bitch to find lately.but good when you can find.the cycle in my TX22 also
I tried the Winchester M-22 subsonic and it was awful. Utter garbage.
It is also 45 grains, but coated with black copper, whatever that is. It was a box full of misfires and FTFs and FTEs. I gave away about 250 rounds to someone at the range. Maybe it worked better for them.
Winchester ammo has gotten pretty bad. It doesnt matter what caliber either,
I picked up 12 guage and 30 06 and very unhappy with quality
I had the same experience with that ammo. Truly horrible.
My concern is will they cycle thru a semi ruger rifle and pistol. Please test that
These didnt shoot for me. BUT, the "SUPPRESSOR" ammo was GREAT!!! ❤❤
Just ordered 500 rounds of this anmo
It depends on your equipment, your skills and the weather. I can shoot 1.5 inches groups at 100 meters in a calm day with cci standard velocity and my cheap old norinco jw 14 with a 16 power scope
@@aah5584 سلام ،با استفاده از یک مهمات با سرعت استاندارد،یک خرگوش یا سنجاب ،در فاصله ۱۵۰یارد کشنده است؟
@@lorbachehgiah8369 you should try to hit constantly at a target like cans or stones at the distance you are planning to hunt.
@@aah5584سلام از راهنمایی شما بسیار ممنون هستم و منتظر ویدئوهای جدید شما هستم
lucky chipmunk 11;09 lol
You should have always kept the same Focus point on the center dot of the bullseye you were shooting for a group shooting for a group not trying to hit the bullseye
Turned my late uncle on to Rem. subsonic.
❤ 👍
Years ago I bought some 60gr subsonic. They were not very accurate and keyholed a lot.
Why 40 yards?
How does it compare to the cci stingers?
The Stinger is a completely different .22 loading. Stingers usually have an escape velocity of around 1600 fps, and these subsonic loads are around the 900-1000 fps range.
🇦🇺😎👍
Have you tried any sk ammo
priced like 22mag
Waxed lead is never good thru a suppressor, copper coated won't lead and wax up your can
That stuffs not new I’ve been using it for years
Right. I think it was introduced in 2019. I should have clarified that it was newer than the 40 grain CCI subsonic stuff.
I give up. Watch Paul H.
Why did you "give up"?
