Compared to how Markiplier is just giving the game a try on his channel, few stutters and one or two CTD issues but still pushing through, I appreciate both of these guys’ honesty about the technical aspects of the game
Fair enough. If you don't enjoy and it's not even 'so bad it' s good' then i respect that. Thanks for making this vid. You never hear people talking about this side of it.
Luna Clipped this from Seán’s latest Twitch Stream. He was super tired and trying to force himself to stay awake in order to fight his jet lag from L.A. I had to watch the VOD, because I missed when he went Live, but I always enjoy listening to him talk about things like this. 💚🤗🤗💚
Yeh, people are always polarizing that gray area become an opposition to them. Anyway the thing with Callisto Protocol is that it says its not Dead Space but advertised as "The Dead Space Script that were supposed be", Dead Space-ly designed, and "From the director of Dead Space".
Just to clear up some misinformation people seem to have about the performance issues: The game overall runs fine as long as you have RT off (game does no use RTX or DLSS, so it runs awful with RT on most systems,) the problem was the stuttering in specific areas due to how UE4 loads it shaders. Whenever the game would load a section, it would stutter, sometimes worse than others. This problem HAS been fixed by the devs a few days after release and it should run fine now. but yea, overall the game's just meh and the final half is real annoying.
@@Ash21 If the changes can be fixed in that short of a time, then a simple playtest and game fixes before launch would have made the game better AT launch. Im not a game developer but shouldn't your focus be at making a better game so that it can last longer and earn more money rather than for it to hit Christmas sales and earn a temporary income boost.
@@Ash21 great! They fixed one problem out of 500 the game has. Game was a boring mess from start to finish. Thank god i can finally play it without dropping to 6fps every single time something happens on screen tho!
@@exoticdachoo007 Game dev can be a mess, it's not as simple as you might think. The game was probably rushed out by the publishers or higher ups to meet the December release date: We know the devs crunched in order to get it finished, so I wouldn't be surprised if the devs knew about the stuttering issues but were focused on fixing bigger bugs and polishing other parts of the game before they ultimately had to release it. We don't know what state the game was really in during development, so we don't really know how rushed they were (but considering the game reuses the same boss 4 times, I'd say it was rushed quite a bit) Publishers care more about getting the game out by a certain point than having it actually be good. This is a big problem with gaming and why most games end up being a broken mess at release. The devs know about the issues and want to fix them (the fix might even be simple too) but they just don't have the time.
@@Ash21 yea tbh I don't think you should ever really blame the developers for everything, since the publisher is the one who decides when it comes out and when it doesn't. Still couldn't make the game at least fun. If it was buggy but fun and enjoyable to play then the fix would be possible since it's just performance and bug fixes, but when it's bad from the gameplay point it's impossible to fix without building the game from the core. One of the only games I saw do this was No man's sky and their passionate dev team
I'm glad he told the truth why he didn't play the game. I was so hype for this game as soon as I watched and listened to the docuseries and the Helix Station podcast. It's sad because this game has amazing visuals and audio design like Sean said. Just great potential overall, I just wish the devs took their time and actually made the game optimized properly, It hurts to see things like this happen to the fans and the developers.

@@mitthenub6050 You don't know the guy, he could've been new to Sean and have never seen him act in this honest way before. The fact that you're being this judgmental over a simple appreciative comment, shows you're not the type of person Sean wants in his community.
I really do like Sean's personal take on this Callisto Protocol. If a RUclipsr isn't enjoying a game they're playing, there should be no reason for them to upload a playthrough of it on their channel, because then the audience wouldn't be enjoying watching the RUclipsr play that game. Huge respect to Sean for wanting to give his viewers good content.
As a new player in the dead Space universe, this being my first DS like game(never played any dead space games) I found it ok, I would not pay for it though, I got it free from a friend who kind of hated it. So, yeah, it's basically too basic hehe.
That’s why Coryxkenshin made the smart decision of just pulling the plug on TLOU 2. After a game he was so hyped to play and the biggest game of 2020, after the second episode where Joel dies… Cory played a bit more before just ultimately stopping the playthrough. Huge ups to him for choosing to play games that he can enjoy rather than games he’d absolutely hate
This is one of the reasons why I admire Jacksepticeye. He clearly admitted that the game didn’t work for him, and his veracity is truly appreciable. I’m really happy that he stated this!
You're setting the bar too low for people you admire and honestly its pretty sad. Its pretty normal to tell your viewers that you wont do a playthrough of a game you dont like, no? Get off his meat, dude.
@@toragic3432 Nope, I’ve seen way too many streamers doing it for the sake of gaining views. I’m at least glad that he says it doesn’t work for him, instead of unnecessarily hating the game like other reviews do. I ain’t dickriding him.
@@toragic3432 A bunch of creators will force themselves to play a game simply for the sake of it being youtube content. And if they dislike the game then they also force the reactions too. If Jack doesn't like a game he won't fake anything and he also won't make content out of it because people will know it's fake. And a lot of youtubers won't tell you one way or another why they didn't play a game or make content of it. I looked forward to Mark playing the last of us 2 for example and he never ended up doing it. Had to find out by a small section of one of his livestreams where he basically says he just didn't play it. Didn't give a reason as to why, which from the perspective of a viewer is fucking annoying. So yeah you'd think it's normal but it's honestly not. Jack is one of the best I've seen when it comes to being honest and communicative with his audience. If I wonder why Jack doesn't upload something he'll probably have a response somewhere. But it bothers the shit out of me to this day not knowing why Mark just decided not to play the sequel to a game he had a successful series out of. All I can logically assume is that the negative view of the game scared him out of wanting to play it. It's not fun as a fan to be in the dark and too many creators do that to you.
im reminded of Mark's awareness of certain things, which i also noticed but didnt think much of. but when he pointed out "there are certain times where there is a very nicely detailed animation, but for no reason and that kind of detail is not consistent", i was like "oh, so im not weird for thinking that stood out a little too much."
The developers for Callisto seemed very passionate about the project, and I was really hoping they would make something good. Really sad to see that they completely missed the mark on this one.
I think the lead director was very passionate about the design and visuals of the game. The way the enemies looked were amazing to him. But It did seem that he didn't mention much about anything else
If it were an Alien franchise game then it might have the lore scope to give it longevity and enough head scratching lore to keep your attention and popular through word of mouth.
I have been watching Markiplier play it and so far its a very cool game so I don't know what you mean by "completely missed the mark" I think you just set unrealistic expectations tbh.
@@justinpettit8282 I think he's literally basing everything on what Sean said, probably hasn't seen any gameplay. What he said was his opinion, the game doesn't look terrible
Yeah, after coming off of Signalis to Callisto, it was just...night and day difference. Re2:Remake showed us that the old school style of survival horror still works, and Signalis proved that you don't need a state-of-the-art 3D graphics engine to do it.
I love how, even when he admits to not liking a game, he still gives credit where credit is due. I also appreciate how, instead of saying 'This sucks', he instead says 'I didn't like it', there's a huge difference between the two
@@pano3410 No, the game just sucks. If you like it, then you're free to like it. That doesn't change the facts and how awful the game is objectively. I could even list a good number of reasons why the game sucks if you want me to.
Callisto Protocol kind of felt like a weird movie adaption OF Dead Space instead of the spiritual successor. It has all the meat and guts to be a good successor but it still felt like a skeleton of what it came from. It was such a shame.
After playing it myself. This comment here hit the nail on the head. It really felt like it wanted to be “Dead Space” but fell flat and was just bare bones. It had everything that could have made it brilliant, they just didn’t put the pieces together as well as they could have.
I was literally saying "they shouldve made this a movie instead" cause of how hard it tries to seem like one. It's not fun but it looks really good and sounds really good
Yeah when you’re doing this as a job then playing something unfun and forcing yourself to do an entire series is super noticeable. Totally fine to drop it. Sad to hear it couldn’t have been better than what it turned out as
oh it couldve been better. the awful performance aside, the story is bland, the combat is boring. they went too action heavy, which is what sank dead space. there was no horror
@@BreadCatMarcus you're not only wrong, but you're also dumb. Callisto is action heavy in the same way that dead space 3 is. It's what killed 3 and sank the franchise
There’s also the issue that virtually every other RUclipsr I’ve seen who’s tried to play/post it has had the videos massively demonetised by RUclips. Think it was Terroriser who basically just said that he and Nogla have given up posting it because RUclips was flagging every single video. Its such a shame because I was so looking forward to this game and seeing how other people reacted to it, so seeing so many frustrated responses is incredibly anticlimactic.
@@globurim As they've both pointed out, it's inconsistant. RUclips will flag anyone for anything, then it's a coin flip as to whether they recant or double down. For The Callisto Protocol, youtubers like Rimmy: Downunder Gaming got flagged for gore in the game; there's literally a video dedicated to the executions in the game that's doing fine.
This! If the graphics are good, then so should the story, overall gameplay, art & sound direction, overall game direction & so much more on the side. A game’s graphics do not carry said game; if the graphics are the only good thing a game has, it makes everything else come off as unimportant!
Yeah it's definitely strange when a company doesn't release keys and doesn't allow for reviews until after the game is already out. Not always a bad thing, but more often than not it is a bad thing because stuff like this happens.
CDPR's Cyberpunk model is getting adopted by other companies it seems. Unsubstantiated hype through highly edited trailers to get sales and preorders. Wait until people forget their "favorite devs" cheated them then release a DLC.
I love Sean's criticisms. He's respectful while also tackling important aspects. Not only that, but he also says positive things about the game as well. I wish more people are like this when it comes to reviewing games instead of making 2 hour long videos absolutely shitting on something that people worked hard on without giving good feedback
Something that needs to be said is that with these successor games you have to keep in mind that only SOME people from the old team worked on them. Not ALL of them. They will be modeled after those games, but that doesn't automatically make them official sequel quality. That's not an excuse for the game releasing the way it did, but it is a warning to be more cautious. I still want to try it out, but I'm going to wait a while. Maybe when it's cheaper and has some patches down the road to fix the major issues. Jack definitely made the right move. If you aren't passionate about what you're doing, it's going to be obvious with the results.
my honest opinion is that you shouldn't expect a game to be good based on who is working on it, because even the greatest artists have their own fuck ups
The teams in turn shouldn't advertise as if they had everyone or major creatives. Wasn't the dude everyone was hyping on this project just a director or something not even directly working on the game? Yet they helped advertise and hype it up as the successor to Dead Space. Ya fans should have realistic expectations but companies also need to market honestly and not try to build themselves up so much on past products or all they do is invite comparison.
I think they tried to make a Dead Space type game after knowing there won't be a part 4 Dead Space game. Maybe the game suffered from that? Like the only reason it was created was due to retaliation?
I would absolutely LOVE to see a Signalis upload on this channel, I think he would eat every aspect of that game up, it's just incredible. It definetely filled the void for me personally that callisto couldn't
Please no. That game is so damn repetitive, full of backtracking and not scary whatsoever. I beat it, but I was honestly bored to death through 90% of it. I loved the start though, when you didn't know what to expect and your inventory wasn't constantly full. I eventually dropped carrying health and the flashlight just to have more space so I wouldn't have to backtrack to item boxes as often, but then I needed the flashlight anyway to enter certain areas. Absolutely idiotic to have such a small, essential item take up a 6th of the inventory. You usually find 2-3 items in every room, so when you only have 2 free spaces, that makes backtracking happen very often when there's like 20 rooms on each floor. I honestly don't get why people love the game so much. Yes, the art, sound and story is cool, but the gamplay is ridiculously mediocre. Not bad, but very mediocre. It's like people who've never played survival horror get very impressed when playing Signalis, because it's like a simple, short survival horror that's easy to get into. Way too many items, way too much ammo and way too much backtracking. People should play something like RE1 remake, Tormented Souls or something before Signalis. It's like people who get impressed by The Surge when Dark Souls exists.
@@Tomiply Spoilers I guess I guess different strokes. Im sorry it was a bad experience for you. I loved RE Remake too and absolutely loved Signalis all the way through. Looking back theres more they could have done to spice it up but overall I was happy with it. It'd be cool if you could pull a Kalibri effect on the enemies and stun them with the hands free radio more instead of just for the infected kalibri units. I love metroidvanias so backtracking doesnt really bother me that much, lore also distracted me from it I guess. and I agree that the item slots should have been larger or perhaps there should have been upgrades. I was hoping when you get that armor you'd get like two more slots at least. Even at the end it felt too limiting since bringing two weapons took up too much space. Especially with the spear gimmick. The modules should have had their own slot to allow for perhaps build variety since Elster units were built to be survivors and adaptable. I find it interesting that in the debug menu you can switch skins (Damaged, Orange suit and Armored Elster) and one of them is Isa. She may been playable at some point in development or perhaps will be. Its also cool that they had a function to allow the weapons to show up on your person if you had multiple, Like if the pistol was equipped and you had the shotgun, it would be slung around your back. Cant imagine why they would turn it off.
Thanks for explaining Sean, it was curious why you hadn't done this game and it's nice to know the reasons. A very fair and understandable stance to take regarding the game.
Given how much of a letdown the Callisto Protocol ended up being, I'm really holding out hope that the Dead Space Remake will be good. Considering the devs of that decided to make development progress more open to the public and even released a chapter that a few people are able to playtest however, things are looking pretty bright for it. Hopefully it stays that way.
i wouldnt count on that. Ive seen an article where they showed how the remake of dead space is gonna be censored. it gave comparisons and the gore factor is way less and watered down. red flags there
Hopefully EA doesn't pull a mass effect Andromeda with the female characters.. shudder.. Oh fuck. So I just checked Nicole's face. She looks like my 55 year old mother lmfao! She even agrees!
aw man, I loved it so much. I waited for the update to fix the stuttering issue but after that, I havnt had that much fun on a single player in ages. The story was kinda hard to follow and there are a lot of unanswered questions but I hope Callisto 2 brings it home. 9/10 game in my opinion
Just finished the game today and I'm glad I decided to play it. Underneath the launch issues and shoddy combat, I actually really liked it. The story, atmosphere and sound design were pretty good in my own opinion. I wish it was longer though.
My biggest complaint was the heavy reliance on melee. Survival horror gets thrown out the door when I’m actively running at an enemy to get the first hit, rather than trying to sneak by and conserve ammo.
It's not a survival game. Just like dead space isn't. Wtf do you do when you see an enemy in dead space? YOU SHOOT IT. You gotta play it like it's dead space. The big problem with the game is that stupid people play it and most people are stupid. They focused too much on the melee at the start so stupid people would get how it works... But they didn't explain the perfect dodge. And so, they trained these stupid people to hit everything in sight with melee while conserving ammo. That's not how the game should be played. It's like playing the last of us with only melee and conserving ammo when Callisto gives you a LITERAL FUCKTON of ammo, way more than the last of us and in last of us, people shoot everything. You have to shoot everything and use melee when enemies get too close. The game nudges you in that direction with the blind enemies level. And then even more after the first boss. At that point i just bought 150 bullets of the assault rifle and went to town and it was fun. No matter how many bullets i used, i would constantly have around 20-25 bullets for shotgun, 30 for pistol, 12 for the shotgun pistol and 20 for the normal semiauto pistol cuz i didn't like it that much and it took up too much inventory space. The drops are based on what you use and how much ammo you have, if you hoard, you will get a lot of healing gel and medkits (which i would sell cuz they give you too much. Same for ammo. I sold so much ammo...).
@@phoenixflambe3319 mmm....or maybe resident evil..8? I literally played Re8 and Callisto back to back and Callisto plays the same but it's better. Most of the hate comes from how it ran at launch on PC and the melee...when you actually should shoot everything on sight. It's like playing Re8 with the knife, of course it becomes tedious and boring after a while
A respectable review. Plus if people really want a playthrough, there are tons of other channels doing one like Mark. Can't go wrong with a Mark let's play.
Just can’t accept that he’s chalking everything to “Game stuttery so people rate it bad!” Mentality. If it’s a good game then it’ll be remembered as such. So far I haven’t heard anything from anyone about it after it’s release. So I can assume it was pretty meh
I can appreciate that closing sentiment of not doing the series in part because of the backlash to the developers. Shows a real awareness of how much weight he can throw around with his platform
Respectable. It is starting to look like these other RUclipsrs who are trying to finish it are struggling to upload/make videos past 2nd-3rd, and watching them I gotta agree, the game just hasn't really peaked any spooky interest in me.
We need more of this kind of honesty coming from RUclipsrs about trendy games like TCP. Most games are hyped just for the sake of it and I bet most of them would fall into the "6 out of 10" category, including console exclusives.
@@Krackerjax I got probably over 200 replies on a comment from people saying they either liked it or didn't like it. So there are a lot of mixed opinions about it.
I agree with Jack. When I heard about The Callisto Protocol being a monster horror game, I was about to get it until later on when I hear about the mixed reviews, I decided not to buy the game, and when I watch the gameplay, I can see why. Don't get me wrong, I haven't played the game and it's not entirely awful, but in my opinion, it had SO much potential for the characters, storyline, lore, atmosphere, and game mechanics.
It’s interesting how people can have such different views on the same game. I know a lot of people including me who really enjoyed the game and had a lot of fun playing it. The story got me hooked as well the combat. However I think the difference for me is that I never played dead space so I had nothing to compare it to.

I’m a huge Dead Space fan and I actually enjoyed TCP on Maximum Security. The problem people have with this game is they constantly go into this game expecting a ‘Dead Space game’. I constantly see reviews from people that didn’t enjoy it, constantly compare it to Dead Space. I get it’s made from the same dev but it’s an entirely different game but nobody can see past that. What matters is that we actually enjoyed it, though.
I feel a lot of the enjoyment comes from the player’s expectations. Despite me being really hyped for this game, I’ve been disappointed by games I’ve really, really been anticipating so I kept my expectations in check to avoid disappointment again. I never managed to finish Dead Space 1 although I did beat Dead Space 2. I still prefer the focus on shooting from Dead Space rather than the focus on melee from TCP but I never truly expected TCP to fully outdo Dead Space. The trailers perfectly highlighted that the focus was on meele so I didn’t feel duped or tricked like I have with other games - I knew what I was getting into. Because of that, I enjoyed TCP much more than the people who were expecting an evolution of Dead Space. It’s definitely not as bad as some reviewers claim though. I’ve been having a good time with it, although I wished they had focused on the horror a little more.
I have never played dead space, ever. I went in knowing about the bad reviews, I went in genuinely enjoying myself, and at the end of the game I still have to say it was repetitive with an incredibly lackluster story that left me entirely underwhelmed. You cannot use the "expectations" excuse. At a certain point, the game simply does not justify or pay off what it sets up. The story is just as predictable as the combat is, and that's saying something because my playthrough was spent with the first 3 weapons doing what felt like the same exact fight probably a hundred times. It grabbed my attention and used it to waste my time.
I was wondering where it was this explains a lot, I admire you're true thoughts and opinions on the game but I'm in like 5ish hours or so and absolutely having a blast but I do agree the story and melee stuff had so much potential 😕
I personally really liked the game and can’t wait for the second. I didn’t really have many issues which is odd to me why everyone else is having so many problems. I had the occasional frame rate drop now and again but nothing that made the game unplayable.
I didn't enjoy it at first but once I got in over an hour or so (after the update) I really started to enjoy it. You have to get into the workings to get the feel for it. (I play it on hard the first time)
I would rather Seán not upload a series and let us know, than start and not finish it leaving some people unsatisfied :) It's nice to see he's trying to find games that will genuinely be a fun time for both him and the viewers.💚 Also curious if he was planning on playing "The Dark Revival" anytime. Not sure if he said he would or not but either way, I just wanna see him make fun content 🥰
I played it on XSX and it looked and played amazing.. but like even with technical aspects aside, it was a really good game.. great story, characters, setting, mechanics
I was sad too. I waited for Callisto Protocol, even slowly built up my Steam wallet in anticipation of buying it. But the reviews on release day really turned me off to it. Now I'm looking towards the Dead Space remake and Forspoken.
This speaks volumes because that man uploaded the entirety of the last Dark Anthology entry even though that game had game breaking bugs that suck the fun out of the game lmao. Callisto must've reallllly bored him out
One of the funniest things to me is that it has the ending ripped of from both Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 1 - like main character sends their female lead off into space to save her whilst sacrificing himself like in Dead Space 2 (except in callisto she doesn't come back for him) and then you also have a possibly hallucination of a monster version of a recognisable character jump out and scream in his face before cut to black like the ending to dead space 1.
No because he didn’t want to give a half assed video to his fan base. He knows that you could go to almost any other let’s player and find it. He knows all he would do is laugh when he was supposed to laugh and never be able to give in any input. And he knows that all he would get was a bunch of comments like yours calling him a sell out who’s only doing it all for the money.
Not sure how far you played into it, but it gets pretty good once you get used to the combat system and the story does pick up a lot midway through the game. We give it a solid 7.5/10. We played it on PS5 with no issues and beautiful visuals. Please understand this is Jacksepticeye's opinion of the game. Do try the game out for yourself (once it's deeply discounted on sale) and form your own opinion of it. Don't immediately write it off simply because he didn't enjoy it.
It's really meh man. Comparing it to original Deadspace especially. Original deadspace had 4 or 5 bosses. This one has two. One of which is recycled 4 times. And is basically just a bullet sponge. Weapon variety was also lacking compared to original deadspace. It's also just not really scary at all. It has some moments. But Deadspace is still genuinely creepy and spooky at times.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Glen Schofield was always in charge of the audio design; even in past games, he was involved. It is sad cause I really like Glen he's one of the few who loves what he does. Callisto was a good attempt at least, if there are ever two installments, well at least they know their solid walls and weak ones.
I did watch a streamer play it and it never felt like a ''bad'' game, but left me wanting more and the future of it has potential to be way better. It just felt bit unfinished.
I miss ps2 Era video games, no early codes. No DLC. No updates. You had all types of fun glitches and the amount of dedication that was put into the game itself. Good times
The IGN plague. They don't dare dole out actually bad scores because they'll piss off publishers and not get keys anymore. Callisto was a solid 2-3. Great graphics and sound, dull, stiff and repetitive gameplay and an absolutely forgettable story with bland and uninteresting characters.
I appreciate his honesty. I was wondering where the upload of the Callisto Protocol would come but never did and found this clip. I really feel like there are so many games in the past 1-2 years that prayed on the idea that hype, marketing and RUclipsrs playing it carry their buggy messes of games. There were soo many games people had their eye on and most of them turned out really disappointing. I hope some more people find the same mindset not to buy every release immediately and just wait around for some reviews to figure out if it's even worth it.
MASSIVE RESPECT for finishing it, can attest, it is a miserable experience that tests your resolve, picking it apart honestly became kinda my way of getting through, when i went over the refund window i finished it... on launch it ran like ass and even now it still did, like its really inconsistent, hope the developers fix it and in the future perhaps expand on it but last of us zombies in space prison is kinda moot , also the monsters get real repetitive
I just couldn’t get into it like I could with Dead Space. The combat was boring and the story was even more contrived. I was excited about Karen Fukahara being in it but not even she could save this shitshow unfortunately.
That's something I also noticed with enemies in that game. I mean, I haven't played the game, but I've seen it, and all the enemies are just like... dudes. They're infected people. I really don't think they're as notable or as memorable as ANYTHING you encounter in Dead Space. It's really a shame the way they look is too basic and lame.
@@angryinternetperson6629 Yeah, a majority of the enemies (minus a couple) are just infected prisoners, or last of us zombies. Even after the ones with tentacles mutate they still don’t look much different, just beefier and more disgusting looking. Compare that to Dead Space where even enemy variants have variants, than theirs just no contest.
Callisto Protocol for me wasn’t a bad game but it wasn’t that good either. Frankly it feels like the developers took elements from Dead Space 2 and 3 and spliced them together but i also think that i may be incomplete and seeing as they are planning a story dlc release for the summer 2023, we may get either an epilogue story or prequel
Oof to Castillo Protocol.... Seems like they focused more on the visuals & trying to make it sound cool. No reviews until game is released, seems like the creators weren't confident in it either... I played it on my channel. I strayed away from reviews and spoilers, but it got to a point where I had to see if the same unfair, broken mechanics were happening to other people too. Sure enough it was. And yeah it wasn't fun. I won't be finishing the series on my channel.
funny enough it seems sean and marks opinion on games are always kinda polarizing as mark seems to enjoy callisto protocol where jack is disappointed, likewise mark just flat out stopped the dark picture series and actively kinda was open of his dislike while jack was more positive on it
the monsters in dead space were better as well, not just the standard zombie, barring a few interesting ones. then its the collectible stuff, looking around for upgrades in dead space gave a sense of exploration. in callisto its just linear walking
It's an alright game. The main issue everyone is having is, it's just not Dead Space. EA really bended the company that made Callisto Protocol over by killing their company and still keeping rights to Dead Space. I think CP devs were trying to make a spiritual successor of sorts, but compared to the lore of DS it just didn't fill the void. Everything about the game itself was ok and it had a few moments that jump scared me but nothing that ever gave me the lingering dread that Dead Space did and that's where it is lacking. The element of palpable fear.
I’m enjoying it so far. Main issue is what you mentioned: the fear. There’s just a lack of fear when you feel so OP thanks to the melee mechanics. No need to save ammo, and you literally avoid damage super easy with no timing window. Sometimes it just feels like I’m playing Batman Arkham Asylum and it shouldn’t feel that way imo.
Yeah, I agree, the other issue for me was the monsters don't stand out, you see a image of a necromorph, you know what game it was from even if you never played Dead space. The enemies are just too generic and forgettable. They're too easy, once you figure out the controls you can just dodge everything, with the glove added to that, you can just insta kill multiple enemies in most areas. nothing is scary cause nothing is even a challenge. It's not a bad game at all its just terribly disappointing, and I didn't even have that high of hopes for it.
Thats EA for ya. EA and Ubisoft are notorious for destroying franchises in seconds. I think the danger is that most successors fail to work out. Like you said, since its not actually Dead Space, it doesn't hit home with people. My question is, aren't they also remastering Dead Space or am I confusing that with CP?
Has he talked about Sonic Frontiers, does anybody know? I was curious how he feels about it, I know he's a fan of the series and was planning to watch him play it but he never did, nor did he ever mention it to my knowledge. If anyone knows please let me know, would much appreciate it!
I am in the same camp. The story was only there to serve the setting/motivation for moving forward. That, and story moments only happen every 3 hours or so? Overall, I streamed it on two separate weeks, and I did nothing but complain the whole time. The game wasn't fun, and I would have rather been playing anything else. It's incredibly unfortunate, but that's just how it goes sometimes. Something my old professors always told me about early development was, "find the fun, find it fast." Without that, you don't have a game.
I'm glad Sean finally addressed why he isn't playing the game. My one piece of feedback is that I wish he would actually communicate the reason why he doesn't end up playing a game when he says he will. I'm sure for most people they would probably assume or get the hint as to why he wouldn't be playing a game after he said he would but this clip shows that there are some people who still ask cause they wanna know. So some better communication would be great. This clip is a good start but I'm sure a community post would be helpful to the people still wondering.
Sean, you have every right to be honest on how you feel about something, some games are like that, some you love some you hate it is ok to feel either way, as many other have said, I respect you more now because you are honest about games spark your fancy and what doesn't, and also you just make it fun
Game was released too early. Judging from the most recent updates it received shows me the developers are still actually trying to put effort into it which is added yo by the fact that they are releasing more story content next year.
Compared to how Markiplier is just giving the game a try on his channel, few stutters and one or two CTD issues but still pushing through, I appreciate both of these guys’ honesty about the technical aspects of the game
I think mark is playing the game with the new patch so it might be a better experience than what jack had.

Yeh, people are always polarizing that gray area become an opposition to them.
Anyway the thing with Callisto Protocol is that it says its not Dead Space but advertised as "The Dead Space Script that were supposed be", Dead Space-ly designed, and "From the director of Dead Space".
There are multiple people talking about how bad it is....i.e angry joe and critikal....its just that mark is an outlier for this game
The dark stories were so bad they were good. Or at least the two i watched, UD and TDIM
I mean, Mark said he has a pc with two 4090 cards and still had frame drops. I think you dodged a bullet my man
Just to clear up some misinformation people seem to have about the performance issues:
The game overall runs fine as long as you have RT off (game does no use RTX or DLSS, so it runs awful with RT on most systems,) the problem was the stuttering in specific areas due to how UE4 loads it shaders.
We don't know what state the game was really in during development, so we don't really know how rushed they were (but considering the game reuses the same boss 4 times, I'd say it was rushed quite a bit)
Publishers care more about getting the game out by a certain point than having it actually be good.
Huge respect to Sean for wanting to give his viewers good content.

@@Tomiply Spoilers I guess
I guess different strokes.

Just finished the game today and I'm glad I decided to play it. Underneath the launch issues and shoddy combat, I actually really liked it. The story, atmosphere and sound design were pretty good in my own opinion. I wish it was longer though.
It really nailed the ‘Dead Space at Home’ feel.
My biggest complaint was the heavy reliance on melee. Survival horror gets thrown out the door when I’m actively running at an enemy to get the first hit, rather than trying to sneak by and conserve ammo.
RE6? Because my first thoughts seeing Callisto Protocol was NOT Dead Space but Resident Evil
It's like playing Re8 with the knife, of course it becomes tedious and boring after a while
Re6 has much better implimented melee, and everyone will tell you it's an action horror not a survival horror.

@@Krackerjax I got probably over 200 replies on a comment from people saying they either liked it or didn't like it. So there are a lot of mixed opinions about it.
YESS SEAN WE LOVE WHEN YOU LOVE WHAT YOUR DOING! ❤
I love honest reviews from honest RUclipsrs, man. Mark and Jack feel genuine because they act genuine often.
Yeah, one of the few people I'd say on RUclips who are genuine (mostly).
yaboyroshi is another utubber who says those
I agree with Jack.

Thanks for the your review Jack. I've seen this game in stores and didn't think of buying it and this puts more pressure on that.
I very much enjoyed Callisto Protocol. Everything I wanted from it.
Can someone PLEASE tell me the music playing in the background? That's some smooth jams going on there. I need more of it.
I didn't enjoy it at first but once I got in over an hour or so (after the update) I really started to enjoy it. You have to get into the workings to get the feel for it. (I play it on hard the first time)
I would rather Seán not upload a series and let us know, than start and not finish it leaving some people unsatisfied :) It's nice to see he's trying to find games that will genuinely be a fun time for both him and the viewers.💚
Also curious if he was planning on playing "The Dark Revival" anytime. Not sure if he said he would or not but either way, I just wanna see him make fun content 🥰
I played it on XSX and it looked and played amazing.. but like even with technical aspects aside, it was a really good game.. great story, characters, setting, mechanics
Good on you for being honest. Honesty is always the best path.
Sean literally took the words out of my mouth lol that is exactly how I felt about the game
Callisto must've reallllly bored him out
He said he finished the game
@@lowbird7947 yet he didn't upload it.
This is why I love jack so much
Cuz he probably was bored and has enough money, felt "meh" and now trows a negative feedback for his always so following sheep? Cool, cool.
He literally said he finished the game in his spare time in this same video.
@@epoch8150 that has nothing to do with what this comment said. Learn how to read.

My respect for Jack has grown.
Honestly I liked the game but fair enough
"Can we have Dead Space?"
"We have Dead Space at home."
Dead Space at home.
crazy how big creators can dislike games they genuinely dont wanna play.
And the sad part is that's what we got after they went into dev crunch for like 2 extra months.
I played it just to tickle my fancy and prepare for the dead space remake. Makes me appreciate dead space even more.
You should still release that one-off video!
I miss ps2 Era video games, no early codes. No DLC. No updates. You had all types of fun glitches and the amount of dedication that was put into the game itself. Good times
The thing is nowadays if a game doesn't get updates after release it's called an abandoned game.
@R-Valer thing is nowadays if a games not a live service type of game its a terrible game in some people's eyes.
I hate when people say that something that is a 6/10 is bad. Objectively a 6/10 is a good score.
in an alright score
"no one was more excited than me"
Spherehunter challenges that
MASSIVE RESPECT for finishing it, can attest, it is a miserable experience that tests your resolve, picking it apart honestly became kinda my way of getting through, when i went over the refund window i finished it... on launch it ran like ass and even now it still did, like its really inconsistent, hope the developers fix it and in the future perhaps expand on it but last of us zombies in space prison is kinda moot , also the monsters get real repetitive
Just finished Callisto on the ps5, I love this game man, on the hardest difficulty too, sooo excited for dead space. It’s a great game!!
I understand for sure I was waiting to watch it until jack uploaded but I understand why he didn't so I'll go watch mark.
does anyone have the full vod of his recent stream
Callisto Protocol for me wasn’t a bad game but it wasn’t that good either. Frankly it feels like the developers took elements from Dead Space 2 and 3 and spliced them together but i also think that i may be incomplete and seeing as they are planning a story dlc release for the summer 2023, we may get either an epilogue story or prequel
Oof to Castillo Protocol.... Seems like they focused more on the visuals & trying to make it sound cool. No reviews until game is released, seems like the creators weren't confident in it either... Unless its spoilers related. Sometimes it do be like that, least better games will come around the corner. What a Highlight from stream, Keep it up & Stay Safe 😎 👊
visuals and sounddesign are what make the atmosphere though, which the game has aplenty. It's just that atmosphere alone can't carry a game...
Well I am waiting for dead space remake now sry Glen Schofield but nice try though
@@ghostdragon2282 Ja, just needed an extra push to become much more cool. It happens, least they did their best on the game. Making one is a challenge within itself
@@crysave9624 Now thats a great one to look forward on, hopefully it goes well
2:49 wow, good guy. Seriously, most content creators just want the traffic and could care less about the developers. Respect.
What is the Lo-Fi song in the background? I have to know!
I played it on my channel. I strayed away from reviews and spoilers, but it got to a point where I had to see if the same unfair, broken mechanics were happening to other people too. Sure enough it was. And yeah it wasn't fun. I won't be finishing the series on my channel.
funny enough it seems sean and marks opinion on games are always kinda polarizing as mark seems to enjoy callisto protocol where jack is disappointed, likewise mark just flat out stopped the dark picture series and actively kinda was open of his dislike while jack was more positive on it
Was the game only running bad on pc, I've been hearing it's terrible on pc but I played it on xbox and didn't see any bugs just curious
I just beat it and the DLC and all I have to say is I love it, I can not wait to do NG+ then go do it again on a higher setting
Ohh you waiting for hardcore and contagion then ? Hardcore is the hardest difficulty till now
I think the scare factor is just gone in callisto.
when I first played Dead space it was scary and the story immersed you into the world.
the monsters in dead space were better as well, not just the standard zombie, barring a few interesting ones. then its the collectible stuff, looking around for upgrades in dead space gave a sense of exploration. in callisto its just linear walking
@@kitsunekaze93 I agree
@@jackweiss652 Agreed.
@@devilchomps3295 well ubisoft isn't really known for that but sure
Glad that Sean is going with what feels right for him and his channel. If he forced a series and didn’t enjoy it, it just wouldn’t be fun to watch.
I don't expect much from the game. I just want to know what at the end of it. So far, I really like the melee part but yeah that all.
I got a Callisto Protocol AD when clicking the vid lmao
I'm glad Sean finally addressed why he isn't playing the game. My one piece of feedback is that I wish he would actually communicate the reason why he doesn't end up playing a game when he says he will.
I'm sure for most people they would probably assume or get the hint as to why he wouldn't be playing a game after he said he would but this clip shows that there are some people who still ask cause they wanna know. So some better communication would be great. This clip is a good start but I'm sure a community post would be helpful to the people still wondering.
I actually agree with you on all points. The game has serious problems and one of those is that parts of it aren't fun or scary
pretty fair
Sean, you have every right to be honest on how you feel about something, some games are like that, some you love some you hate it is ok to feel either way, as many other have said, I respect you more now because you are honest about games spark your fancy and what doesn't, and also you just make it fun
love the honesty
Game was released too early. Judging from the most recent updates it received shows me the developers are still actually trying to put effort into it which is added yo by the fact that they are releasing more story content next year.
